the suspect remains in critical condition at the hospital after being shot by police. . >> it took a barrage of police bullets to end the rampage. 23-year-old james patrick dylan is accused of staffing a female neighbor in the face and neck and then went to a liquor store where he stabbed the owner to death and set another man on fire. two hours later, an inspector and lieutenant cornered dylan in his own backyard. >> the officers demanded the suspect drop the knife and bottle accelerant he was carrying. he sprayed the two with the liquid burning their hands and face. the officers discharged the

>> there are reports dylan has psychological problems and was off his medication. he has many arrests. five earlier arrests date back to when he was a juvenile. the man who dylan allegedly set on fire is going to be okay. he is recovering at hospital. the 39-year-old woman who dylan allegedly stabbed has been treated and released from the hospital. as for the two officers, they're also recovering at cornell i'm kristin thorn. channel seven eyewitness news. a former nypd officer was killed while serving on a texas rest. david hofer served in new york for five years before he moved to texas. hundreds of mourners are expected to turn out for a salute today. >>reporter:. good morning, michelle. the nypd has started to close off the side streets near saint

preparation for all of the people expected to come pay their respects today. there was a massive memorial service in bedford, texas. hundreds of people filled the rafters of a local football stadium there to say their goodbyes. officer hofer was killed on tuesday during a shoot out while working for the bedford police department. the 29-year-old worked for the nypd for five years assigned to the 9th precinct before he moved to the dallas area he moved to be with his fiance and he believed working in texas would be a lot less dangerous than new york. >> when he was young and starting out he said, you know, they cannot feel free, and that was his day i'm going to make life safe for people to enjoy their life there, to feel. >> the funeral mass begins this morning at 10 a.m.

patrick's cathedral in midtown. reporting live in midtown, darla miles, channel seven eyewitness news. thank you. it is 4:35, former first lady nancy reagan is being remembered around our nation. she died yesterday at the age of 94. her bodiy, which was in a funeral in santa moven ka will be moved to the reagan library to lie in state. the governor of california has ordered all flags in that state to be lowered to half staff in her honor and there is a growing memorial ud of the reagan library president obama and the first lady released this statement on the passing. we offer our sincere condolences to their children and grandchildren and we remain grateful for mrs. reagan's life, thank her for her guidance. our coverage of the passing of the former first lady, nancy reagan continues with a full live report coming up in the 5:00-hour. talks resume today between

4:42. a driver who was shot outside of a queens nightclub is pleading for the shooter to come forward. 37-year-old robert castillo is hospital. his family released had i picture. he had just dropped off passengers at as a club when the gunfire broke out. >> he is a son, he is a brother, he is a cousin, he is a father. he is a friend. so, please, just give yourself up. castillo's sister says it is too early to tell what will happen to her brother. medically, he is in critical

southwest coming across, so it will be cooler today with the cool water there but here are the windchills this morning, 32 in the bronx, 32 in the park with the wind coming up. so just dress warmly. 22 is the real feel around tom's river. today we hardly scare up any clouds. the high pressure will reach here. jet stream worked up to the north. that allows warm air to surge up from the south. temperatures will average 15 to 30 degrees warmer than normal when you get all of the warm air, the surge is up from the gulf of mexico with this jet stream off to the north. we're looking at warm weather coming this week and it only gets warmer starting today right on into the week. sunny and milder today. 59 as i was showing you. 47 is the normal high. tonight we're partly cloudy and 47 which is our high temperature in the afternoon. when you start there, it will be warmer tomorrow with sunshine and a high that will be around 65 degrees.

seven-day forecast. we have 72 on wednesday. that will set a record high. the old record is 69 set back in 2000. it will be warmer on thursday with a record high on thursday is 74, so with that in mind, we'll be looking at maybe a stray shower late in the day on thursday as a record high was set back in 2006. we do cool down after this front moves through with a shower. notice the temperatures are around 60, this weekend, and we'll be looking at temperatures then. 13 degrees warmer than normal for this time of the year. we'll have sunshine through, no snow. we're winding down winter here and starting out with a nice week of weather with temperatures into the 70s. >> i'm sure we'll have snow next december. >> i'm so confused. i was just s! >> you can stil. >> true. >> what he said.

expressway to and from the george washington bridge. west side coming off of the george washington bridge. a pretty good ride for you there. we have alternate side of the street parking rules in effect for today. ken, over to you. 4:48, a big drug bust in connecticut lands two people behind bars. police seized $42,000 in cash and drugs, tvs, cars and ammunition inside a bridge port home. darius gamble and his girlfriend vivian rodriguez were arrested. the baby girl was at the home at time of the arrest. they found drugs and money in her bedroom. the site of the bloodiest battle of the civil war is the scene of conflict. >> you should be a shamed of yourselves. go home! >> a southern heritage group held what it called confederate flag flag day yesterday in getties burg pennsylvania. it brought a protester, some call the flag a symbol of domestic terrorisms.

>> good morning, ken, we have an update for everyone, the two officers who dylan threw an unknown substance at have been treated and released from the hospital. investigators say they're trying to figure out what that chemical. was here at liquor store where dylan allegedly stabbed and killed the owner, the investigation continues this morning, investigators say james dylan entered the limitsor store around 3:00 yesterday and began arguing with a homeless man. they say the 55-year-old owner of the store tried to break it up but dylan allegedly stabbed him and threw an accelerant on the other man and lit him on fiert. dylan, 23 years old is undergoing psychiatric evaluation at elmhurst hospital and recovering from gunshots.

the liquor store, they say to step in. >> he would stand up for you and fight for you. that is that type of guy. >> the homeless man that dylan allegedly threw this liquid on is also recovering right now. the crime spree began when he allegedly stabbed a female neighbor, just about two blocks from here on 36th street. he allegedly stabbed her in the face and neck. she has been treated and released from the hospital. i'm kristin thorn. >> 5:04. grief counselors will be available for students at two new jersey high schools today class mates. two were killed saturday night when a driver jumped the curb and plowed into the boys. it happened across the street from union city high school where rodriguez was a sophomore. he was known by friends as an up and coming dancer and students his honor.

a little bit of a windchill. you can knock a few degrees off of the temperature. long island 32, and 32 around bridge port. today we'll be looking the clear skies to start and a few clouds will come across today. really, you have the ridge of high pressure here that will slide east ward, push the jet stream to the north. this allows for a southwest wind to bring warm air up and over us and we go into the next 3 or 4 dachz. 32 monticello. we get to the afternoon and we're looking at mid-50's, upper 50s here, and then tomorrow, we'll start the day in the 40s tomorrow, so we're starting around the 30s this morning, we'll be in the 40s to start the day which means it will only get warmer into the low to mid-60's for tomorrow and we're off to the races with the temperatures. look at the overnight temperatures with the 50s. we'll be 10 to 15 degrees warmer seeing the high pressure ridge slide east ward and out into the atlantic appeared we'll have a lot of warm air for not only

and wednesday, temperatures will warm into the 70s, 60s off to the north with the jet stream running the temperature 15 to 30 degrees warmer for this time of the year. 59 degrees. milder today. 47 tonight, tomorrow, we've got sunny weather. it is warmer at 65 degrees. remember, normal high is 47. it hasn't been this warm since christmas. remember christmas? it was 74, 75 degrees. so as we wind down winter, we'll be in the low 70s on wednesday and thursday. wednesday we set the record high. that was back in 2000 it was 69. record high on thursday, 74. we'll get close. >> yeah we are. >> still around 60 and that is way warmer than normal. >> i'll take that. >> nice. >> nicer than a blizzard. let's check the commute with hea hi! >> no major issues as far as mass transit goes. the subway service is running on

then police say he went to a liquor store where he stabbed the ownero and set another man on fire. two hou later, an inspector and cnered dylan in his own backyard. >> the o drop a knife ande he refused. the suspect then sprayed the two officers with the liquid, burning their hands and face. the officer then discharged their weapons shooting the suspect. >> there are reports dylan has psychological problems wand off his medication. neighbors say he was a frightening presence on the block. he has eight prior arrests including one for menacing and another for possession of marijuana. five arrests date back to when he was a juvenile. the man who dylan allegedly set on fire is still recovering at the hospital.
