nassau county and sped off with cops hot on his trail. darla miles is live in meric where the suspect into several parked cars. good morning darla. >> good morning! this is where the high speed chase came to an end on babyloan road here. -- babylon road here. look at this red mitsubishi. it is crumpled like a tin can. all of this, again, when the high speed chase came to an end here in merick. this started in freeport last night when police officers took a man into custody and some how he managed to jump into the front seat of this suv while the car was already running and drove off. that is when officers followed here to merick with a high speed chase. he turned on babylon road, which is a dead end street.

all of them smashed. but some how officers managed to block him in and eventually took him back into custody. now, his name has not been released and it is not clear at this point why he was first being arrested, but what will be under investigation is how a suspect in custody was able to drive off. >> it is 4:34. now to the new jersey transit strike threat. both sides meet again with two days left before workers walk off the job. with more. mall sflaechl. >> riders certainly do have their fingers crossed negotiations are concerned. everybody is hoping for the best. strike.

page. grief counselors will be on hand on poughkeepsie campus after a stand out basketball player was shot. the senior died at the hospital after he was shot wednesday game. the 18-year-old was with a group of friends when someone started shooting at him. he was not the intended target but was caught in the crossfire. >> friends of the people shooting each other, they have to stop it and we're going to do what we can to arrest the people responsible. >>reporter: just before the shooting. he posted this picture on twitter showing the trophy he earned after scoring 21 points in a game. police are searching for the person who shot him. 4:36. we're hearing from the victims in a bias attack on new york light rail. this is the facebook post shared

the victim and two of her friends were riding the light rail last thursday night from new jersey institute of technology. all all three were muslim. a man started cursing at them. >> he spat on us. i was shocked. i didn't have any reaction. >> that is when the man started yelling obseneties at the women. that is when officers met the women and they pointed out the man that attacked them. 62-year-old patrick getrapallo was arrested for assault and bias intimidation. a man is accused of spying here while posing as a banker is expected to plead guilty. he allegedly worked for russia's

. firefighters spent more than an hour sifting through rubble at a site in brooklyn after

collapse but then learning it was a hoax. they learned it was a collapse but it wasn't immediately clear that a collapse occurred. it snot known how they were hurt -- it is not known how they were hurt. clean up continues after severe weather brought down the roof of a k-mart in northern california. heavy rain hit the area yesterday. the store's roof was already damaged by dry rot and a contractor was actually working to reenforce the roof earlier this week. the rain collected on the weakened roof and caused it to collapse. nobody was hurt, fortunately and only part of the store had to be closed. 4:43. caught on camera a car gets into deeper and deeper and deeper trouble on the flooded road. the driver tries to get away from the flooded road but gets stuck. a man risks his own life to walk to the car and carry the woman to safety. you never should do.

a north to northwest wind will bring in cooler air today and make it feel springy and refreshing. the pressure 29.9, holding steady. yesterday's high was 79. a record high. we smashed the old record of 74 which our record today -- 2006. our record today was 73 set back in 1977. sun is up at 6:15, about the time the showers will end. it will be cloudy. we'll have a gorgeous sunset at 6:00. it will be clearing, we'll have an a cool breeze out of the northwest. even though the temperatures are in the 60s it will be 15 degrees warmer than normal for this time of the year. temperatures will stay around 60 this weekend. we move the clocks ahead one hour saturday night. 54 is wild from duchess, poughkeepsie, new burn, rockland

police made an arrest in free port. the suspect managed to jump into the front seat of the squad car, drive off. an it was a high speed chase from five miles from free port and that is when the suspect turned on to babylon road. this is a dead end street. he crashed into four parked cars, we're not told of major injuries but he was treated at a local hospital for his injuries. at this point it is not clear exactly why that suspect was being first taken into custody. his name has not yet been released at this time. reporting live, darla miles. eyewitness news. police say they caught this man in connection with a frightening subway in betweens. his name is george pout.

he pushed a 15-year-old girl in front of an on coming seven train. the teen managed to get herself between the platform and the train's wheels as the motor man slammed on the brakes. the girl only suffered minor injuries. happening today, the clock is ticking. we're two days away from a possible nj transit strike. both sides are back at the bargaining table. mallory hoff is live in newark with the latest. mallory? >> good morning. those talks will resume at 10:00 this morning here in newark. this after yesterday's negotiations went south. now, 4,000 workers have authorized this potential strike. new jersey transit made it clear in a notice to workers that if they strike, there will be consequences. existing positions and sick leave compensation would be suspended. insurance benefits would be discontinued, a new jersey transit spokeswoman says it is required by federal law to advise employees what will

we'll look at cooler temperatures than yesterday. so far, temperatures are warm, the rain fall has been in the hundredths. we're in the low 60s by the afternoon. we're in the mid-50's and then this afternoon, we'll warm into the low 60s, 15 degrees warmer than normal for this time of the year. so warm day today, after school kids on this friday, a great afternoon, 63, sunny and breezy. get outside and enjoy it. it is a very nice, brand new, refreshing air mass coming in. clears out the air and it is chillier tonight. 45 in the suburbs, 49 the five burroughs. sunny and mild. here seven-day forecast. we spring head on sunday. don't forget. set your clocks forward on sunday or you're going to be late for everything all day long and then it is going to be cooler and damp on monday. we'll have rain returning on monday.

police are searching for the gunman right now. now to the new jersey transit strike threat. both sides meet again this morning with two days left before workers will walk off the job. eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff is live in newark with more on this. >> good morning. both parties will be back around the negotiating morning at 10:00 here in newark. this, after negotiations went south yesterday. nearly 4,000 workers have authorized the potential strike. new jersey transit made it clear in a notice to workers that if they strike, there will be consequences. existing positions and sick leave compensation would be suspended. insurance benefits would be discontinued. a new jersey transit spokeswoman says it is required by federal law to advise employees what will happen if they go on strike. the notice didn't sit well with the worker's unions. >> this action taken by new jersey transit while the parties
