we're following breaking overnight news from virginia beach. police dispatchers say officers caught whoever robbed a 7-11. it happened just before 1:00 at the store on holland road near the chimney hill shopping center. no one was hurt. police say the robber got away with cash and food. detectives have not said who the suspect is or what charges that person is facing. hundreds of workers will walk through the gates at newport news shipbuilding for the last time today. thirty-minutes ago, we first told you more than 700 workers are losing their jobs at the company because of a decrease in workload at the shipyard! here's the thing, the cuts aren't over just yet.

rico bush is outside the shipyard to explain what's ahead for several hundred more employees not on the chopping block this time around. rico - katie, don, this isn't easy to say, but a third round of cuts are coming! the company says it will hand out pink- slips to even more employees this year. however, the shipyard mentioned it is too early to know how many people will be impacted and when they will make the cuts. this is in addition to than 7-hundred 30 hourly and eight salaried workers laid-off today. since the company made the official announcement to reduce its workforce last year, it says it planned to get rid of 15-hundred workers by the end of 20-16. it's making

leaders and engineers will team up to participate in a flood risk management study. norfolk is one of the most flood-prone cities in the country. this is video from a recent heavy rain storm. the flood risk study outlines a plan to investigate ways to help city. developing this morning, search and rescue teams are working to recover the wreckage from two military helicopters. the u-s marines say they've recovered some of the 12 victims' remains off the coast of hawaii. about 80 military members and a specialized salvage ship are on site to help. we told you last month the military helicopters collided into each other overnight. witnessess described seeing a fireball in the sky when the crash happend. no one on board survived. suspect on the run. 10 on your side talked with customers who are upset over a local convenience store robbed a gunpoint. class dismissed. we'll tell you why students in a local

chuck, predicts for our this morning, police are looking for the man they say robbed a convenience store in portsmouth. surveillance video captured the tense moments at the citgo mart on george washington highway. it happened around 10:00 on monday night. you can see the robber coming around the counter with his gun drawn. he pushed a friend of the manager's -- before running off with hundreds of dollars. customers say the robbery hurts.

schools. school officials dismissed all schools in the division before noon yesterday while they searched the buildings. the sheriff tells us, deputies searched the buildings, and called in bomb- sniffing dogs to double check. they didn't find anything to support the threat. that wasn't the only bomb threat on the eastern shore. investigators looked into another threat at chinocteague elementary school in accomack county. yesterday was a teacher work day-- so no students were in school. first responders say they didn't find anything. prosecutors say someone stabbed nicole lovell to death the day she vanished. family reported the 13-year-old blacksburg girl missing, wednesday. investigators charged two virginia tech students in her death: 18-year-old david eisenhauer and 19-year-old natalie keepers. eisenhauer faces murder and abduction prosecutors changed keepers charges for from accessory after the fact to accessory before the fact. she still also faces unlawful dispoal of a body. 14;01;51 coli had a passion for pandas. music, dancing, dreamed

causes birth defects. the city of norfolk says the owners of a burned-down hotel are getting closer to demolishing the building. only chopper 10 was above the m-star hotel on shore drive in august last year. a city spokeswoman said they met with the owner's attorney monday who informed the city, the insurance company will not pay for a full demolition. the owners have appealed. we'll keep you updated on the progress. will virginia beach move city hall to the town center area? right now, its just a plan. the current city hall is way out on princess anne road. the director of public works says, the building is 50 years old and needs to be updated. the next step would be for the city to approve money in next year's budget for a feasibility study. today is a big day for dozens of local high school football players. its signing day! starting today, high school seniors can officially accept college offers. it's always a busy day for our sports

we're following breaking overnight news from norfolk. crews put out a fire at a home on marlboro avenue. that's off kimball terrace. our overnight photographer got this video of firefighters on the scene. the fire started around 2:00 this morning. no one was hurt. investigators haven't said how it started. happening today, it's the last day of work for hundreds at the newport news shipyard. more than 700 workers are losing their jobs! management announced the layoffs several months ago.

rico bush is live outside the shipyard with the reasons why. rico. don, katie, since the layoffs began at newport news shipyard last september, the president of the company has maintained the reductions are based on a lack of workload, after all other options have been exhausted. president of newport news shipbuilding matt mulherin made the official announcement to reduce the workforce in early december. the company sent pink slips to 7- hundred 30 hourly workers and eight salaried employees, but the shipyard let them work for 60 more days. this morning will be the last time hundreds of workers will walk through the gates at newport news shipyard with an uncertain future at least until 20-17. the company has tried to give impacted workers a little hope in moving in forward, because they say, employees can come back next year when the workload increases. still, as you may imagine, hearing this, may do very little to ease the pain for some workers who will out of work after today and

spend the night somewhere else. no one was hurt. this morning, investigators are still working to find out how the fire started. happening today, dozens of civil service mariners will be back home after 5 months at sea. the usns leroy grumman is scheduled to return to naval station norfolk. the ship is a fleet oiler that helps refuel navy ships while they're at sea. while they were away, the crew replenished more than 6-point-8 million gallons of fuel. they'll pull up to the pier later this morning. you're looking at the second chance. she got stuck in one of the nets at the new top golf facility in virginia beach. someone called animal control around 3:00 yesterday afternoon, but crews couldn't get their trucks on the grass. so they called a tree company. nuckols tree care used one of their bucket trucks and got the duck down. she's recovering at the spca. animal workers say the duck is doing just fine. the folks at top

was contaminated with lead after city officials switched from the detroit water supply in 2014 to save money. crews did not properly treat the water. lead from pipes seeped into the system. residents started complaining about the color and smell of the water. now to a story you'll see only on 10. there's a man missing from suffolk and his family needs your help finding him. police say quantez russell disappeared under suspicious circumstances. detectives say they found his car at a newport news gas station back in november. no one's seen russell since. over the past few months they have seen the bogus bills popping up all over the city. they say in november this man spent seven, $100 hundred dollar bills at the walmart on cunningham drive. detectives also say some people are selling shoes and game systems on craigslist and paying the seller with fake money. investigators say technology is helping the counterfeiters making the fake money since they can find similar paper in local stores. police say small businesses should always be on alert and use special pens to detect counterfeit cash.
