in just a few hours, voters in 11 states including virginia will head to the polls in the presidential primaries. and turnout is expected to be high. the primaries today could decide who gets the presidential nomination for both parties. rico bush is live at one polling place in norfolk this morning with what you need to know before you head to the polls on this super tuesday. rico. don, katie, super tuesday is likely to live up to its name as candidates are bracing for a long and tough night. today's primary in virginia will likely be a make-or-break moment for some presidental candidates, particulary for ben carson or john kasich. marco rubio is in desperate need of a

show he can compete against businessman donald trump. cruz's only win was from the iowa caucus in february. when you vote today, be sure to bring an i- d. all registered voters in virginia can cast ballots in either primary, but not both. the polls open at six this morning and close at seven tonight. three democrats are on the ballot, but only former secretary of state hillary clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders are still in the race. former maryland governor martin o'malley pulled out last month. on the republican side, thirteen names are on the ballot, but only trump, cruz, rubio, carson and kasich can claim victory in virginia's primary today. clinton leading in virginia. but, at this hour, its still uncertain to say in the commonwealth. live in norfolk, rico bush, 10 on your side.

clinton. chopper 10 was above lake taylor high school as the line to get in snaked around the building. on the republican side, doctor ben carson visited regent university yesterday. he sat down with the school's chancellor and c-e-o pat robertson as part of the presidential candidate forum. even though he doesn't have the numbers to win, dr. carson said he does not plan to drop out. new this morning, democratic state senator don mceachin filed the paperwork to run for congress in virginia's 4th district. that seat is currently held by republican u-s representative randy forbes. mceachin is an african american personal injury lawyer who is head of the democratic caucus in the state senate. this all has to do with the redrawn lines in the 4th district. a panel of judges changed it, and now the district includes large areas of democratic voters. we told you earlier this year representative forbes is now vying for the second district. congressman scott rigell

i-64. police say the 60-year-old driver was not badly hurt. he told police he didn't see the train coming. officers charged him with driving without a license. investigators say there are no flashing lights or crossing arms at this intersection because it's a feeder rail. another driver faces charges in norfolk after police say he hit two children in a crosswalk. this happened yesterday afternoon at the intersection of chesapeake boulevard and dudley avenue. police say the driver was trying to turn left onto dudley avenue when he hit a seven-year-old and nine-year-old. the children went to c-h-k-d and should be okay. now to a follow-up of a deadly fire we first brought to you yesterday morning. last night people gathered at the urbanna baptist church to remember two people who died at dozier's port urbanna marina. this is video from our sister station in richmond. police are investigating the fire as arson. beth

video of the fire that started burning yesterday morning around 4:30. we spoke to friends of the two people who died. she said the victims were living on their boat during a renovation of their home. c0042 - lisa baechler - lost boat in fire 2942 there are a lot of all kind of going up in flames and we feel for our friends 2958 police have not identified the victims. their bodies were taken to the medical examiner's office in richmond. police say a total 21 boats were destroyed in the fire. 10 on your side looked into the charges against a stabbing suspect, after the victim's family contacted us. we first told you about this last week. it happened in portsmouth, on bold street. police say late thursday night -- ray jones broke into a woman's home and stabbed her. officers tracked him down shortly after, and arrested him. latressa scott's family reached out to 10 on your side.

hospital, but well enough to speak. she told our lex gray -- she doesn't understand why the most serious charge against jones is malicious wounding. scott's family says she almost died in the attack. her face and hands are slashed, and she may go blind in one eye. scott says she woke up to the sound of broken glass -- and then her ex- boyfriend. latressa scott/stabbing victim (23) 33:08 he came straight to my room, locked the door, and i'm begging him, please, and he said i'm going to kill you. officer-involved shooting. it happened last night in raleigh. witnesses say police shot and killed 24- year-old akiel denkins as he was running away. police have not identified him yet, but say they were chasing a drug suspect. investigators say they found a gun near the suspect's body. witnesses say denkins wasn't armed. the shooting caused this massive protest last night in downtown raleigh. more than 300 people marched through the streets. now to a new development in former virginia governor bob mcdonnell's appeal. his legal team filed its opening brief to the u-s supreme court. his lawyers believe a federal jury unfairly convicted him on an overly-broad definition of bribery. the supreme court will argue the case in april, and we expect a decision sometime in june. this all stems from a 20-14 conviction where a jury found both mcdonnell and his wife maureen guilty of public corruption for trading political favors for gifts and loans. new this morning, suffolk police are trying to solve an undetermined death. around 1:30 this morning, someone called 9-1-1 after finding a man's body at the pleasant hill cemetery on old dill road. detectives say the medical examiner will determine who the person is and how he died. call the crime line if you know anything.

only see only on 10. lawmakers in richmond disagree over a toll bill designed to protect you. it calls for free passage - meaning not all lanes can be tolled. that would affect crossings like the h- r-b-t and the monitor merrimac. the bill also calls for better electronic notification of unpaid tolls and capping fines. however tomorrow, this bill could die because not everyone agrees with it. state senator bill desteph "we can do that cutting the bill down issues we need to work on" state senator kenny alexander "at least get the bill in conference if we kill the bill no negotiating no compromise) . so if there ill bill toll operators will continue to impso these fees penalties on toll violators" we'll continue to follow the bill's progress and let you know what happens to it on wednesday. new this morning, wild video showing a car slamming into a gas

we're back with new information about yesterday's shooting at an ohio high school. investigators say they plan to charge the 14-year-old suspect as an adult. two students were shot and two others hurt trying to escape the cafeteria at madison junior-senior high school yesterday morning. all the injuries are non-life-threatening.

rico bush is live outside a polling place in norfolk with what you need to know before the polls open. rico. good morning, katie and don. in just a few hours, virginia voters will have a chance to weigh in on the heated presidential race. the number of delegates up for grabs in the commonwealth could be decisive in determining who clinches the presidental nomination for the republican and democratic parties. here's a look at who is on the ballot in virginia. on the democratic side, three people are on the ballot, but only former secretary of state hillary clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders are squaring off in the state's primary. democrats are competing for 95 delegates plus 15 superdelegates.

new this morning, harsh words from a local lawmaker about donald trump. outgoing congressman scott rigell sent out an open letter saying a trump victory could be detrimental for the republican party. the 2nd district representative went on to

"i am convinced that if donald trump becomes our nominee, the harm done to our party would be nothing short of catastrophic." congressman rigell says he would not support trump if he became the party's nominee and even called trump an imposter. you can read the letter right now on wavy dot com. heads up about school delays and closings on this super tuesday. because of expected long lines at polling places at several schools, virginia beach public schools will start two-hours late this morning. and according to the school calendar, students in suffolk will not have class today. now to the video everyone is talking about. the secret service says agents are investigating an incident involving a photographer during a donald trump rally at radford university. watch as agents choke and slam a time magazine photographer to the ground. agents say chris morris was working when he stepped outside the media pen. an agent grabbed him by the neck,

today more than a dozen local police officers will attend a fallen virginia officer's funeral. they will say goodbye to prince william police officer ashley guindon. a long line of flashing blue and red lights traveled with officer guindon's body from the funeral home to the chapel last night. she died on her first day of patrol. investigators charged army staff sergeant ronald hamilton in her death this past

hundreds came out last night for a vigil remembering those killed in last week's tornado in waverly. community leaders, first responders, and supporters joined the victims' family members in a service outside annie b. jackson elementary school. as many lit candles --- loved ones released balloons in memory of those lost. trenika stringfield mourns her two- year-old son, ian lewis, her 26-year-old brother, devine stringfield, and her 50-year-old boyfriend, larry turner. the three were inside a mobile home when the deadly storm came through. sot c 28 trenika stringfield - lost three loved ones in tornado 13:12:31 "i feel like they had a relationship with god and i feel like all i know is god knows best place i know that they're gonna be better." eight others were hurt in the storm - including trenika.

her mother. an online fundraiser to help her and other family members can be found on wavy-dot- com. this morning a warning from parents to police: secure your guns. this after two boys, aged seven and nine, are recovering from accidental gunshot wounds. the first happened this past weekend on lancer drive. police say the little boy was playing with the gun and shot himself. investigators say the other happened on morgate lane after a child found a gun and accidently shot another child. a detective showed us how the gun safety locks work. 59:53 we beleive that if a child is educated and the child understands that firearm safety is very imporant adn tthat you should enver pick up a gun, you should always find an adult that may have been something that was different. 1:00:05 police and seriff's deputies hand out life saving gun locks for free. as for the shootings, officers are testing the guns to see who they belong to. charges are pending. once again, the murder trial for a former

has moved. 10 on your side learned stephen rankin's trial is now scheduled for july. his trial was orginally supposed to start this month, but a judge pushed it back to august last week. that was because some witnessess were unavailable...which is also why the judge recently moved the trial to july. rankin faces murder charges for shooting and killing william chapman the third last year. looking ahead, jesse matthew junior is expected to plead guilty in the kidnapping and murder cases of two virginia college students. our affliate station in charlottesville reports he'll enter the plea tomorrow in albemarle county. matthew is charged in hannah graham and morgan harrington's murders. without the plea agreement, he could have faced the death penalty. matthew is already serving life in prison for a sexual assault in fairfax county. new this morning, police in porsmouth are investigating car break ins. dispatchers tell us it happened overnight at the renaissance hotel parking garage. that's on water street in

to learn how many vehicles were broken into and if there is any damage. we also want to know if police have any description of a suspect or suspects. developing this morning, dozens of cars vandalized in hampton. this morning police are looking for the suspects involved in 37 different cases in the fox hill neighborhood. neighbors told 10 on your side, someone shot out their windows. take a look at this damage. officers say the suspects used a pellet, paintball gun, or slingshot. they say the suspects took off in what may be a pick-up truck. if you can help police find them, call the crime line. this morning a man is back on shore after his boat ran aground. this is video of the coast guard rescuing the guard says the man ran agound sunday and decided to wait until high tide to see if his boat would float again. when it did not, an air team from elizabeth city rescued him and flew him to the williamsburg airport. medics said he was well

we're on your side with an alert for parents of football players. scientists say many helmets that do not fit, increase the chances of concussions in high school players. data from more than 4-thousand concussions show athletes with improperly fitted helmets, had more drowsiness, noise sensitivity, and hyper excitability compared to those whose helmets fit. the numbers also showed players with helmets that used inflated air rather than foam or gel liners, had concussion symptoms for a longer period of time. a judge put a hold on new york city's salt warning law. it was supposed to go into effect today. the rule is a first of
