today will be almost the same. humidity will be in check. it will make it to the low 90's. 67 degrees at the airport. nice and mild. a few high, thin clouds out there. we expect mostly sunny skies during the day. mostly sunny with a high temperature near 92 degrees. we come back in just a few minutes and check the seven-day forecast in the upcoming workweek. stay with us. >> the belmont stakes was a photo finish, but not the race millions wanted. that's our big story this morning. >> the favorite triple crown in contention i'll have another pulled out just before the race. still, the horse did make one final appearance in the winner's circle. >> the race finished under gray skies, but fate rained on the bell monlt's parade a day before. >> this is officially to tell
you that i'll have another is retired. >> a sore leg. the favorite and triple crown contender. >> the most famous horse in america has tendonitis in his leg, and he will miss one of the biggest horse races in history. >> the effect was felt in the fans. there was a crowd, but nowhere near the 120,000 fans predict whd i'll have another had a shot at facing immortality. instead, this special ceremony to honor a champion. i'll have another back in the winner's circle one last time. jockey gutierrez jumping aboard. eventually the saddle will be removed and the horse retired. >> it would have uplifted the spirits and given us another
champion. >> fans left to wonder when they will have another triple crown contender. >> how i'll have another impacted local racing. our coverage continues from pimlico where kim dacey looks at the lot impact of the belmont. >> it was union rags that took home the trophy. >> yes, that was a disappoint that i'll have another couldn't race. >> this was not the party it was supposed to be. many tables were empty. custom i'll have another hats left untouched. many people said people did not show up for the reservations after the announcement that i'll have another pulled out of the
race because of an injury. >> i was disappointed. i was looking forward to seeing a triple crown. >> i thought i would be in new york having my hat on, and just could not get it done. but here pimlico is ok. >> brenda canceled once i'll have another dropped out. she already had a hotel and tickets. >> i wanted to have i'll have another. i was there when affirm won, and i wanted to be there when i'll have another won. >> horse racing fans are sad there is no triple crown winner this year. they know the decision to pull i'll have another out was the right one. >> i am proud of the owner and the trainers to take him off the track because the horse is more important than any race. >> horse racing will go on. this is not the first injury a horse has had in a big race, and it probably won't be the last. >> the crowd was glad to see
i'll have another came out and -- before the race. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> a teenager dead after a brazen attack. a gunman pulled up and shot the teen several times at greenmount and 21st street in east baltimore. the 19-year-old was taken to the hospital where he later died. baltimore police ask if you have information on the shooting to give them a call. >> while city police investigate the east baltimore shooting, they do say they have solved the case of quentin poison detection ter. -- poindexter. police say his murder took place last month. >> baltimore county police say they have caught a prisoner that took off before court hearings. thomas morelli skipped police custody at essex district court at 8:00 friday night before a
bail hearing on sex abuse charges. >> it was a big day for the catholic church here in baltimore. seven men ordained. four of them will serve for the arch diocese of baltimore. for one of them, it was a day of mixed emotions. here's kate amara. >> one of the the priests ordained. the mass celebrated at mary our dween. -- queen. for these men, this is the final step in a long journey, years of personal and professional sacrifice. >> today i feel so happy.
i feel so blessed. >> just such an exciting day. >> but forize yack it was somewhat bitter sweet. in layman's terms, the mass of ordination is kind of like your wedding day. you want your family there. butize yack's family could -- but isac's family could not come to his ordination. so the church was filled with other kenyans. >> this is a happy day for us. >> this is a great day. we have been waiting for this day. >> this is just the beginning of a new journey. >> kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> and he did get right down to work. after the ceremony yesterday morning, isaac mocovo said his first mass in ellicott city. >> a new netflix series house of
cards will be casting extras today. the opening casting call today at the bell air armory on main street from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. here's what they are looking for, teenagers, people 28 to 34 to play capitol hill aides, and 40 to 60-year-olds, and people 40 to 60 years old to play elegant washington types. you are supposed to dress in business attire and bring a current head shot or snapshot. >> and kevin spacy, i know the age limit is 34, but should you happen to change your mind, i think we would look really good on house of cards. >> as we wage age -- as we age, how the city of baltimore is working to fill in the medicare gap starting with seniors. >> and he's searching for ways to liven up the menu at the new
>> welcome back. the time is 5:12. it is a quiet morning. 77 downtown. it feels like summer, that's for sure. the humidity isn't all that bad. you will start to feel that tomorrow. this morning, it is rather comfortable. here is the weather set-up. it is comfortable, actually. a front off to our north. an area of low pressure down to our south. another one in the plains states. this one is what we call a back door cold front. it is producing showers and thunderstorms in new york and pennsylvania. this pressure system down around the gulf of mexico will visit us tuesday and wednesday. in between the two, at least for right now, we should wind up with one more dry day as we close out the weekend. the rain is close to us.
aloaning that front, as i mentioned, we have scattered showers up toward new york and parts of ngnnl. and i think that's going to stay up there. it may drift a little close to us. it should stay far enough away that we don't get into the precipitation. certainly the high, thin clouds could drift in to maryland, and maybe the system to the south. generally, in between the two, we'll wind up with a decent day today. right now, 67 degrees at the airport. 66 in westminster. 65 in parkton. we're going to make it into the low 90's this afternoon. the humidity as i mentioned still isn't bad. the dew point at the airport is 58. when you have a dew point in the 50's, everybody feels comfortable. when you get them into the mid to upper 60's, you start to feel that humidity. that's our forecast for today. high temperatures will make it into the low 90's. southwest wind at 10 to 15. west to southwest wind. waves 5 to 10 foot. at 9 minutes after 12:00 this
afternoon. the humidity will start to go up, temperatures only drop back into the upper 60's and low 70's. then the seven-day forecast going into next week. the chance for rain goes up. a chance for a shower or thunderstorm on monday. much better chance for rain on tuesday and wednesday. that system there will knock temperatures back into the low 80's. weather looks nice at the end of the week. >> bee hive hair, leopard print spandex. tony, you can't wear that all the time. >> i can't help it. >> it was in the spotlight this weekend. hundreds of people gathered on 36th street for the hon fest celebration. all afternoon, local bands played songs from the john waters musical "hair spray" which of course inspired the hon character. >> i love the festival. everybody here is so friendly.

officials. the center for science in the public interest designed to share ideas on how to cut down on consumption of sugar-sweetened beverage. >> we're part of what has become a new movement to promote health by reducing the consumption of soft drinks. >> missing, anyone representing the soda industry. the american beverage association, which was denied access to the summit, says it wants to be part of the growing national debate about sugarry -- sugary drinks. the organization asks one question, do sugary beverages cause obesity? >> it is not the entire obesity epidemic, but it is a major contribute tore. >> thomas farley defended his city's decision to ban these beverages over 16 ounces in restaurants. >> what is the appropriate size for a human? >> they called the proposed ban proactive and innovative.

they are there this weekend. that's because they are performing a show that's been europe's most popular live arena show. it is called impa is. -- impassionada. >> the first marner arena has been turned into a horse rink for it. >> it has the full range of a major production. we have the lights and video and sound system, wonderful music, wonderful costumes. >> the show is based in europe and has become very popular. this is their first time traveling abroad. they are at the start of a 1.5 year north american tour. transporting all those horses across the ocean and around the country is not easy. to get all 45 hor horses here from europe, they had to fly them on three different planes,
with custom-made stables in the back. >> we are traveling from city to house and back. the horses can get back into a stable after the show. >> the horses are stabled in the back in downtown baltimore. trainers and riders say the road has something for everyone. >> when we come in with our sparklers in the dark, and people come in on fire, you hear a wide cast across the audience. we have a lot of laughing, we have a comedy act with laron and his donkey and his horses. people can be awed and amazed by the dressage routines. >> producers say this is a unique show, the likes of which, you won't be able to find anywhere else in the world. >> if you love horses, if you love shows, if you have a family, it's something for

10 miles west of fort collins. 36 home owners were ordered to evacuate. crews had to fight through difficult terrain. firefighters dropping chemicals to fight that fire. >> in this morning's project economy report, europe coming to spain's rescue and will bail out the failing banking sector. yesterday 17 countries that use the euro say they will len spain -- lend spain billions of dollars. u.s. treasury secretary timothy geithner says the decision is a welcome action toward stemming the region's debt crisis. >> warren buffet investor has forked over $3.5 million. the winner and seven friends get

that will be drifting over us. we also have this back door cold front coming across pennsylvania and new york state. we have showers across new jersey and back into new york state. i think that will stay far enough away from us. certainly the high, thin clouds could drift into our neighborhood. even the clouds in the system to the south could make it in here. in between the two, we should wind up with a decent day today with sunshine and temperatures again sneaking into the lower end of the 90's. without the humidity, it won't feel bad. 65 in parkton. dew points running in the 50's. that's comfortable. when you get the dew points into the mid to upper 60's, that's when you feel the humidity. that probably won't come in until later tonight or during
the day tomorrow. mostly sunny, hot but not too humid. high temperatures will climb into the lower end of the 90's. sunset at 8:33. if you are taking the boat out, it will be a nice one. wave height around one foot. bay temperatures in the low to mid 70's. next high tide at fort mchenry nine minutes before 10:00. temperatures drop back into the upper 60's to around 70. seven-day forecast, upper 80's tomorrow. humid. scattered showers and thunderstorms possible over the next three days. the best chance will be tuesday and wednesday, and that system that comes through will knock the rain back into the low 80's. the rain looks nice as we head toward the end of the week. >> now to a story we have a feeling we will be hearing more and more frequently. >> a bear sighting. >> and in places where bears are not supposed to be. kate amara tracked this one down in howard county. >> and when i came and saw the bear, i was just shocked and
really surprised. >> it was not an ordinary monday for diana silk. about 30 minutes after her sons came in from playing outside, pay black bear moved in. >> he knocked my bird feeder out of the tree and was feasting away on my bird seed. >> after 11 years in this mom home, it was a first for the family. when diana called police, she learned she was not alone. >> they said they had received already five calls for bear sightings. >> according to the d.n.r., six bears are operating in garrett, alleghany, and garrett counties. sightings are on the rise state-wide as young bears travel up to 150 miles wide in search of new territories which may have been the case at the silk home this week. >> i can't imagine whr it came from. >> to keep it from coming back, the silk's bird feeder has been removed for good. according to the experts, that's
the best way to avoid bears in your yard p and remove attractions like bird food, pet food, and garbage. if one does show up, back away and give the bear plenty of room. once you have left the area, make loud noises to scare it away. diana silk also alerted her neighbors, and as the story gets around, she realized she's now known as -- >> the bear lady. looking for caviar, we're looking for things like burgers and something casual. i've always been a burger guy. my travels around america have inspired me to come up with these different combinations in the burger. >> you have 10 different burgers? >> yes. there are actually 30 possibilities. you can get it in certified angus beef, you can have a turkey burger or chicken breast sandwich. you can get them topless, fries or not, and we have these sauces. ketchup and yellow mustard, of course. we also have chipoltle ketchup and something called burrer sauce. and people sort of mix and match these sauces with their burrers.

i have to say, the horse did it all. at first the horse was tight. i engaged him to get into the hole. i didn't know if he was going to open up, i anticipated he was going to open up. once he took it, he put in a good fight. you have to give it all to the horse. >> the philadelphia team against the orioles. birds take a 4-3 lead. paid row's stroke comes in relief in the -- pedro's stroke comes in relief. juan pierre crosses the plate. tied at 4 in the ninth. phillies had the go-ahead run. jim johnson gets ruiz to ground into the 5-4-3 double play, so the game remains tied. we go to the 12th with a runner on adam jones at the plate, and adam launches it to deep left center, and that's your ball

>> welcome back. the time is 6:09. that is a beautiful shot of the city. it will be a great beach weekend. a fantastic beach weekend to say the least. here at home, not bad either. 67 degrees at airport. 74 downtown. the humidity is still in the comfortable range. it will be another hot day today. like yesterday, i don't think the humidity will be all that bad. kind of a complicated weather set-up here. rain along the gulf coast drifting north. at the same time we have a back-door cold front cutting across pennsylvania and parts of new york state. this is the one that's going to be close enough to maybe give us a couple clouds today.
i think the rain is going to miss us. it is drifting very slowly to the south. i think it will stop and stay far enough away that we won't get into the precipitation. we will see a few scattered showers and thunderstorms along that boundary now. some of the high, thin clouds are going to start to drift down into northeast maryland. we might get some high, thin cloud cover from that. even the system to the south might get closer for high, thin clouds that come in. we'll call it a mixture of sunshine and a few clouds. generally a sunny day today. 64 in parkton right now. 66 degrees in rising sun. the dew points are still running in the 50's. when the dew points are in the 50's, everybody feels comfortable. when we get the dew points in the upper 60's, everyone starts to feel the humidity. right now the dew point is 58 at the airport. it should stay in that range most of the day. it is going to be a hot day, but not too humid. we should make it up to 92 this afternoon. mostly sunny skies. sunset at 8:33. if you are taking the boat out, nice on the water.

so like i said, this is a two-day process. want to fry one? >> i do. >> fry away. we start with a potato, we scrub it, we cut it, soak it in cold water overnight, gets rid of a lot of the starch. we dry them off, then we plan much them in oil, canola oil at 235 degrees just so they are soft but not brown. then we let them cool down. when you order one, you turn it up to 375 degrees and twist them up. that's how you get perfect fries. >> and sweet potato fries are all the rage. what makes them so wonderful? >> so the key to sweet potato fries is actually having some crispness to them, because a lot of times they are soggy. we are able to do that, and we are able to serve a sauce with those. >> oh, my gosh, those are great. >> honey mustard and horse radish. >> it is like sweet, tanningy, saucy. -- tangy, saucy, it is all going

crews there battling a fast-moving wildfire. it prompted several dozen evacuation orders. the fire broke out early in a forest area 10 miles west of fort collins. at least 36 area home owners were ordered to evacuate. crews had to hunt through difficult terrain to reach the fire. they are also dropping chemicals to reach that fire. >> europe coming to spain's rescue. they will bail out the country's banking sector. yesterday finance ministers that use the euro-say they will lend spain up to 125 million. spanish banks struggling from the building boon that burst in 2008 leaving millions of dollars to home builders. timothy geithner said it is a welcome action.

united states. >> the show is riding into baltimore this weekend. the first mariner arena has been turned into a horse rink for it. >> it is something like a broadway show and has the full range of production. we have all the lights and video and sound system. we have wonderful costumes, wonderful horses. >> this is their first time traveling abroad. they are at the start of a 1.5 year north american tour transporting all those horses across an ocean and around the country is not easy. to get all 45 horses here from europe, they had to fly them on three different planes with special custom made stables in the back. >> we are traveling with four horses now. we are traveling from city and back to the city. the horses can get back to a stable after the show. >> that hub is a farm in ohio. the horses are trarlestabled
