that people left here. and state troopers left here about an hour-and-a-half ago around 3:00 p.m. there are many unanswered questions regarding the death of jb and naomi newton. the highway patrol has not turned over the final findings to the district attorney's office. however we have learned that the da's office has had people on the scene. and no charges have been filed in the case yet but we have been told the driver of the vehicle submitted a blood sample to investigators. again it's basketball an interesting scene. people stop and drive by and take pictures and leave flowers. and at 5:00 p.m. you will hear from cleveland sheriff norman who has an offer for the good samaritan who helped pull the people out of the burning home. see you then. live in cleveland county, steve crump wbtv on your side. >> thank you.

more about what happened moments after a south carolina deputy was shot. 9-1-1 calls show how a good samaritan kept her cool and called police. after finding deputy kimber gist injured in berklee county. >> i have an officer here and she was shot officer 144. harbor lake drive. >> the officer behind me in an s.u.v. he has her laid on the ground. >> gist was shot while trying to detain a man. the suspect travis smith was found dead later that morning after taking his own life. gist is recovering from injuries in the hospital. >> he was hit by a car at a bus stop while pushing a classmate out of harm's way and that teen is home from the hospital. junior gonzales' injuries are improving. a driver hit him and never stopped. no arrests have been made in the case. >> now to the wbtv alert center and alex giles is following another accident involving a school bus.

it has been a busy day in the alert center. >> yes, it has. alex giles joining us live with the latest on another developing story. >> a court case we have been following for years suspected killer of two virginia college students pleads guilty today. jesse matthew received four life sentences for the crimes accused of kidnapping and murdering two virginia college students. a virginia tech student morgan harrington in 2009 and university of virginia student hannah graham in 2014 and that plea agreement he took covers both cases. looks like he will be spending the rest of his life behind bars. >> story lots of folks were following. thank you. >> we have the top consumer headlines. wbtv partnering with the north carolina bar association to provide free legal information. we will have a team of licensed attorneys in studio friday to

you have been stuck in the clouds the entire day and the are rest of us have been basking in the sunshine. let's see what is coming up down the road. not a lot right now. we can rest easy almost 24 more hours before we have more rain. and there is a big high pressure system there and that is why things are calm and things are dry. let's talk about tomorrow. 36 in the morning. a little bit chilly for the wake up. middle of the day 50 the high. 54 . and you will notice the rain chances increase for the second half of the day from 4:00 p.m. on we have the chance of showers in every location. we have a chance of snow showers in the highest elevations. this is from thursday evening until friday morning. notice how many areas could see snow. 1-2 inches not a huge total but something that could impact your commute on friday morning. and the rest of us looking at rain. here is what the rain situation looks like.

ovarian cancer every year. >> a new report is shedding light how doctors may be able to catch it earlier and treat it better. maureen o'boyle is on your side with the details. >> hollywood scriptwriter brings characters to life on tv but now she is telling her own story. her battle with advanced stage ovarian cancer. >> it's you know, incredibly frightening. and it knocks you off your feet. >> it's different types of cancers that usually start in the uterus or fallopian tubes. >> the ovary is a fertile area for the cell to implant with lots of blood vessels that they do not begin on the ovary but metastasize to the ovary. >> the report says understanding these cancers is critical for early detection and treatment. the report also calls for more universal genetic testing for

relative who says she confessed to the murders for the first time. we are hearing a possible motive behind a triple homicide in gaston county. welcome i'm maureen o'boyle. >> i'm paul cameron. crystal gambino charged for killing her husband and two people inside the bedroom of her home. police say all three victims were naked. tonight we are hearing a 9-1-1 call that may reveal what may have led to the killings. >> my sister-in-law has told her family that she killed her husband. she caught him sleeping with another woman and took care of the bodies. >> brody o'connell is live with the details. tell us what you know about this? >> good evening, paul. i have been here at the gaston county police department for a couple hours and talked to a captain. and the details of the crime scene absolutely chilling.

victims found in the nude all of them shot to death. >> she said she put the woman's body in a wheel barrel and wheeled her out. >> details about the triple homicide spreading throughout gaston county. and today police gave us a police understanding of what happened monday inside the gambino's home. according to police, giovanni, jeffrey gill land and stephanie sanchez were all naked and shot to death. >> we believe all three were shot inside the house in a bedroom and one of the victims the female was moved outside. >> they are now trying to figure out how the victims knew each other. right now they believe giovanni met the two on-line. >> this is something we will take our time with. i say weeks, computers can be tricky to get into and figure out what is going on. >> one thing police did make clear they are confident they

crystal gambino made her first appearance in court on tuesday. and while appears there is no threat to the community, details about the triple homicide are hard to take for the community. >> just you know, you hear all kinds of rumors figure out [inaudible] and bad situation. >> i talked to several neighbors today and most told me they avoided hanging out with crystal gambino because she was hard to get along with and had strange tendencies including making a claim that she was a witch. that according to a neighbor i spoke to this afternoon. brody o'connell wbtv on your side. >> thank you. gambino's next court appearance is march 21. but the district attorney's office believes the grand jury will indict her. >> look at the beautiful sunshine on our hd towercam and
