even if it is chilly outside and seeing a little fog. for some of you, a lot of fog. live clouds here in center city. colder air moving in later this week and we'll get to that in a moment and welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm chris cato. >> let's get to bill henley in the first alert weather center. bill? >> very thick fog in new jersey and not so much in pennsylvania and a few spots in delaware where the visibility has been coming down. temperatures are not as chilly as they were yesterday. there you can see the low cloudiness that is over center city. a live view looking across the delaware this morning from theed a eventualer ee eer aquarium. sunshine breaking through the low clouds and first we have to deal with this. quarter mile in both locations. it's improved a good deal in atlantic city and seeing good improvement in delaware, as well. visibility in dover was under a mile and just moved up. now seven-mile visibility and
the fog is already disappearing there and reappearing is cold air this morning for pottstown, atlantic city at the airport and all in the 30s this morning while it's in the 40s along the i-95 corridor and 46 degrees in philadelphia. the clouds that are overhead will be breaking for some sunshine. 50 at 9:00 and into the 60s by lunchtime and climbing, too. your hour-by-hour future weather when i'm back in less than ten minutes. first alert traffic reporter. >> good morning, bill, fog is an issue for some of our drivers, especially in new jersey. want to start things off with a foggy look at cherry hill. you can see it's a foggy intersection and also seeing fog on 295 on many of our cameras there. looking at your average speeds along the 42 freeway. heading northbound. average speeds in the 50s. 42 looks great, accident free. but as i said, 295 we are seeing patches of fog there. live look at 95 right at cottman avenue. overnight construction and long-term construction to add to
that. but it's not tying things up. we're not seeing a lot of volume right now. we are following an issue in abi abington along old oak road. there is some fire activity out there. an alternate to take around that is huntington road. tracy? the breaking news we're following out of montgomery county. on the scene of a fire at a ymca in abington. matt delucia just got to the scene. what is happening right now? >> fire crews remain on the scene. i'll get out of the way and show you what is going on right now. this all happened in the past hour. you can see, fortunately, no visible damage but fire trucks out here right now. some crews still making their way around the building and just making sure that everything is secure is that that fire is truly out. you heard katy mention a traffic situation out here in abington. it is shut down right now for
quite a ways. about a quarter of a mile in each direction at old oak road and traffic is being diverted around this area. we're going to stay out here and try to gather more information, as you mentioned. i'll get out here and try to talk with the chief and we'll have an update shortly. i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. this is also new from overnight, a series of fires breaks out at the six flags theme park in ocean county. look at this video. nbc 10 jesse gary is live outside that park in jackson. and you actually learned that fire officials are investigating the possibility of arson here and the conditions outside could be a clue, right? >> that's right, chris. if you've heard bill and katy talking about the fog in new jersey, we have that here. additionally the ground out here is very, very wet, makes it difficult for a fire to spread on the ground into the trees especially through a fence, which firefighters had to cut through to actually get to this grouping of four secondary fires
that were in a patch of land just off with these main fires started. flames you'll see almost make a circle on the ground. but you'll look and see they're not actually up in the tree limbs. initial fire was reported late last night in a utility shed in the safari off road adventure. the roof collapsed before scores of firefighters tapped out the blaze. there are no reported injuries and park officials say the animals are all safe. now, i've been in contact with the police and i am going to call them back and try to get a hold of a watch commander and check back in with you in 30 minutes. we're live in jackson, ocean county, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. philadelphia police will charge a driver with dui and the man was heading towards the intersection at when he lost control and the car flipped over and hit a parked car. the driver was taken to the hospital for a minor injury.
four people have now been killed in camden in just the last 48 hours. police say daniel damon was found dead two hours prior to that. nelson jackson also killed. this follows the shooting death of two other people in camden sunday morning. police do not believe any of the shootings were related. a fight at a prison in northeast philadelphia. sky force ten was over the scene at the philadelphia industrial constructional center on state road just before 11:00 last night. four men were stabbed with makeshift weapons. the worst injured was a man with wounds to his head and back and none of those injuries are life threatening. delvin barnes a man accused of abducting a woman in philadelphia will be brought back to face charges. he was being held there on charges from a separate kidnapping case. tomorrow he will appear in a philadelphia courtroom. now, banchz is facing charges
after he abducted carlesha freeland-gaither off a street and rescued three days later in maryland. frein's defense attorney is claiming police tried to keep him away from his attorney. he was hired by frein's family on the night of his arrest but he could not see the suspect because frein had not asked for a lawyer himself. he is accused of killing a state trooper and injuring another at an ambush attack at the police barracks. he was captured after a 48-day manhunt. the barracks have been closed to the public since september 12th but will resume full operations tomorrow. a man was injured when he tried to stop a man from taking his stuff. he walked in and busted the burglar ransacking his house. he was in the process of
stealing jury and the burglar fought back hitting the homeowner in the head with a crowbar. >> a perpetrator threatened to stab the homeowner. at that time, the perpetrator broke free, fled on foot down the steps. >> now, the homeowner was treated for injuries to his head, face and neck. the burglar got away. once decorated philadelphia police was acquitted of aggravated assault charges yesterday. his attorney tells us the jury did find him guilty of simple assault. prosecutors say he assaulted his then girlfriend at the port richmond home they shared back in 2007 you'll remember he was hailed as a hero after getting shot in the face during a traffic stop. his sentencing is scheduled for january and his lawyers do not believe he will get any jailtime. today, of course, november 11th, we celebrate our nation's veterans. >> the federal government has now promised to do a better job of caring for those who serve their country.
yesterday the veterans affairs department announced the largest overhaul in its history. secretary robert mcdonald said they will focus more on customer service and make it easier for veterans to access the department. one of the biggest problems, as you know, health care, the v.a. has been under intense scrutiny over wait times at its hospitals. we checked with veteran hospitals across this area to see where they stand now. the va has set a goal of 30 days or less for veterans to get their first-time appointment and that goal is being met at the va in philadelphia and coatsville where they're waiting an average of 19 days for a primary care appointment. in wilmington the average is much higher, 66 days. here's a look at wait for specialty care. the highest for that is philadelphia va. veterans waiting an average of 55 days for an appointment there. is philadelphia a good place for veterans to live. according to wallethub.com. philadelphia ranks 83rd out of 100 on the best and worst city
for veterans. the availability of jobs, va health facilities and the percentage of veterans living below the poverty line. in the nation's capital on this veterans day, final preparations are under way for a number of events and since the president is in china now, vice president joe biden will actually be taking his place in the veterans day ceremony at arlington national cemetery. here is video from last year as president obama placed the traditional wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. vice president biden looking on. veterans have been buried at arlington for the past 150 years. ceremonies including the world war ii memorial and 800,000 people are expected to gather at the national mall for free concert and tribute to veterans. this morning eagles fans are celebrating last night's big win over the carolina panthers. let's go to vai sikahema who joins us live in the operation
center. >> shine in the monday night spotlight. they crush the carolina panthers 45-21. wasn't even that close. think the saints regret letting him go? score the eagles first touchdown in the first quarter and then follow that up eight minutes later with a 65 yard punt return for a touchdown. that put the eagles up 17-7 in the first. they led 31-7 at the half and never looked back. mark sanchez two touchdown passes in his first start in almost two years. both of them to rookie jordan matthews. the eagles are now 7-2. and mark sanchez actually had a couple reasons to celebrate this morning because today is his 28th birthday. next up for the eagles, a sunday showdown against the 6-3 green bay packers at lambeau field. the eagles stay ahead of the dallas cowboys and the nfc east by a half game. live in the digital operation center, vai sikahema, nbc 10. your first alert weather
with meteorologist bill henley. >> a chilly morning and seeing some areas of thick fog, mainly in new jersey. not so much in pennsylvania and disappeared in delaware. it will be completely gone as temperatures climb into the 6 os this afternoon. a nice, mild day today and then the temperatures tum abbletumbl. cold air arrives for the rest of the week and looks like it is staying for the weekend. 35 in allentown and 35 in northeast philadelphia at the airport and 39 right now in millville and we're seeing some areas of fog. this is a view from cherry hill and dense fog and parts of new jersey. traffic seems to be moving along there. visibility not too bad there. and in mt. laurel, yeah, maybe even a little bit thicker this morning. the fog is going to be thick in some spots and nonexistent in others. and all this fog will disappear as the temperatures climb. right now, ten-mile visibility no problem for quakertown or doylestown and wilmington, international, no problem there. look at the thick fog in
burlington county. mount holly wrightstown down to half a mile and a quarter mile, that's an improvement. it was down to zero. we saw thicker fog in dover that has shifted to the south and fog, once again, reappeared in atlantic city. low clouds above the fog. those will break and we'll get some sunshine to warm things up today. so, overall, it looks like it's going to be a pretty nice veterans day as the temperatures climb into the middle 50s by 10:00 this morning and then this afternoon they top out in the 60s. but, a turn for the cold is on the way. the timing of the arrival of the cold air and come back in less than ten minutes with a full seven-day forecast. it is 12 minutes after 5:00 on your tuesday veteran day. low beams are the order of the morning for many of you waking up to fog in parts of the area. >> right. >> katy zachary is watching the fog in some areas and other problems you might encounter. >> fog across new jersey, specifically in cherry hill. in bell mar, like this shot is here of the 42 freeway right at
creek road. we're seeing light fog and also fog throughout the area and going through the new jersey cameras. and we'll show you more fog on the roadways and something to keep in mind for our new jersey drivers. montgomery county, specifically abington on old york road. we have two alternates for you. and, also, a live look at route 309 right near the pennsylvania turnpike. no fog here and no issues to report. very light traffic at this hour and for drivers up in the lehigh valley, a live look at 422 at cedar crest boulevard. more activity on the roadway, but no issues to report there. when i see you in a bit, we'll look at the new jersey fog, as well as delaware roads. 13 minutes past 5:00 right now. a car goes plunging into the delaware river and no one was inside. the guy that let the corvette go into the water on purpose.

prosecutors were seeking the death penalty. police say an upset husband is responsible for dumping a perfectly good corvette into the delaware river and our cameras were there as fished the car out of the river last night. police are still looking for him. they have not released his name. they do plan to file charges. 5:17. we have new information now about last year's deadly car jacking in the parking lot of a north jersey mall. the owner of the mall at short hills tried to block the release of the surveillance video that shows dustin freeland. freeland's widow who was with him that day filed a wrongful death lawsuit. four men charged in that carjacking have pleaded not guilty. seven north jersey high school football players accused of hazing their teammates will not be tried as adults. last month the war memorial high school football team season was canceled. those seven players are charged
with crimes ranging from hazing to sexual assault and the coaches were also suspended. members of a fishtown parish say violating church law. they're upset because workers began removing sacred items. the archdiocese closed the building last march saying it was in imminent danger of collapse, but the church has appealed to the vatican and parishioners say removing the sacred items before the appeal is complete feels like a violation. >> i was angry because i knew they're just pushing ahead and doing things in defiance of the vatican and showing a complete disrespect for the church and its parishioners. >> the archdiocese says it was the parish's new pastor that ask that items are removed. archdiocese leaders say each item removed from the church will be cataloged and stored in a warehouse, at least until a decision on that appeal is made. 18 minutes after 5:00 and time for a check of the roads as
traffic picks up on what is a foggy morning for some of you. >> katy zachary has been monitoring the fog from some of the cameras. what are you seeing, katy? >> fog is an issue in new jersey and it is still an issue on some of our roadways. in mt. laurel a live look at 295 right at route 238. fog is an issue and the low beams are in order for at least the next hour or so while the fog is out there on the roadways. in abington we are following fire activity on old york road. a very busy roadway and susquehanna road between susquehanna road and an alternate highland avenue or huntington road to get around that. a live look now at 476 at lawrence road from 95 to 76 and then up to the northeast extension looking good free and clear of any accidents or any issues. for drivers in bear, delaware.
route 896 and summit bridge. the right lane is blocked in both directions. >> now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> you could see the changes taking place in your area as low clouds and some fog move in. this is the view from the melon bank building in center city. the temperature is holding at 46 degrees at philadelphia international, but much of the area is chillier, chilly enough for fog to be forming there. you could see it in this view looking across the delaware, the low cloudiness obscuring some of the tops of the building in center city at this time. those low clouds become fog in parts of new jersey where the temperatures have dropped into the 30s for wrightstown and toms river and north and west 30s, as well. 39 degrees in lafayette hill while blue bell is at 41 degrees this morning. collegeville at 35 and into the middle 30s for pottstown. so, it's a chilly morning for
much of the area, but it is dry. nothing falling from those clouds and that may change this evening with a brief shower and then later this week, we'll be watching this line of clouds. snow is falling in the midwest, iowa and minnesota and wisconsin and that's cold air that is going to be arriving here with a chance of a few showers at the end of the week. partly sunny, though, today on veterans day. the temperature climb into the middle to upper 6 os this afternoon. turn out to be a nice day today. tomorrow, we'll start with clouds and we'll see clearing during the day. gusty winds and 66 the high temperature after a morning low of 53. the winds will deliver the colder air and you will feel it for thursday and friday. could see an early shower on friday and then dry for saturday's walk at citizens bank park. the walk to defeat als. the clouds are back sunday and we could see some rain develop late on sunday and the wet weather could continue into monday. we have a warning from mcdonald's this morning, a happy meal toy that could be dangerous

coughing out pieces of the whistle. well, with the eagles big win last night it's hard not to think about the super bowl. i hope i didn't jinx us. you'll see the super bowl right here on nbc 10 and record asking prices for ads for the upcoming super bowl. hampton pierson is here with that and cnbc business news. hampton, good morning. >> hey, tracy. yeah, you took the words right out of my mouth. visions of the super bowl dancing in the heads of eagles fans after last night's impre impressive showing and the football season is entering the second half. but it's never too early to start thinking about the super bowl. nbc, which is broadcasting this year's game says it still has about ten 30-second ad slots available at a record $4.5 million each. nbc says some advertisers are waiting until the last minute to commit, but several new companies buying commercial time. this year the network says fewer car ads but expect to see more

area is being reopened right now. philadelphia officer out of the hospital we will get to that story in a moment, but, first, this. i'm matt delucia live in abingten where a fire has broken out at this ymca. i just got new information and i'll have that coming up in a live report. >> somebody of any age would come help me out like that. the philadelphia police officer is out of the hospital and talking about what he remembers the night he was pulled out of of his burning cruiser by good samaritans.
