impeachment. good morning. this is "nbc10 news today." i'm rosemary connors. it's just before 8:30 on this saturday morning. meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking the frigid temperatures outside. michelle this kind of weather can really be dangerous if you're not careful. >> that's right. it doesn't take a long time to be outside for your soon to be exposed to have problems. take precautions. wear layers. wear the mittens, the hats the scarves. here's a live look. looking at blue skies. a pretty looking day but it is frigid. looking at temperatures in the teens mainly 16 right now in philadelphia. 17 in millville. to the knot and west 2 in mount pocono. nine degrees in lancaster. the winds will be a factor all day long. feels like 17 below zero in mount pocono. feels like zero in philadelphia. the windchills in atlantic city right around five and four in dover. a cold day. windchills are colder than that. as we go throughout the day, the temperature will not climb far. by 10:00, 18 degrees.
by noon, 20. by 2:00 p.m. 22 degrees. we're going to be cold all day long with that wind. our own nbc10's matt delucia has been live on kelly drive all morning long. any runners out there this morning? >> reporter: michelle, offen a warmer day you would expect to see a few people but not today. only a handful i would say are out here right now. live look on kelly drive. you don't see anyone at this point. we've been out here for the past half hour and just a few minutes out side makes you feel this bitter cold weather. almost everyone out here is wearing several layers. it's important because a cold blue is in effect. that means efforts have been under way to get homeless individuals off the street and into a safe shelter over night. that cold blue not just in philadelphia but several neighboring counties in pennsylvania and new jersey as well. we also have a light wind out here that's also making things feel a little bit worse. you get that windchill coming in to play. we have been making calls to several shelters and agencies this morning and they are seeing more people use their services,

around the clock. this app is available right now. it's for free in the app store. philadelphia firefighters braze the cold temperatures over nate at the scene of this house fire on north lee street in kensington. you can see that water on the firefighter's jacket turned to ice. that's what that is. investigators say there was nobody living inside this house. no injuries at all. this morning 22 people are receiving help from the american red cross after a late night fire in lehigh county. this fire damaged four rowhomes on gordon street in allentown. everybody made it out safely. the red cross will help those residents with emergency aid and that includes clothes, food and shelter. . new from overnight, philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting. nbc10 was on the scene outside the sing fon restaurant where somebody shot and killed a man after midnight. the victim had just bought some
food at the restaurant when the shooter opened fire. the search is on in atlanta county for the driver who hit a man and just kept on going. police have identified the victim as 52-year-old james osler. he died at the scene of the crash at route 30 and eighth avenue. this happened overnight. police shut down the roads for about three hours while they investigated but the intersection has since reopened. today council for pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane will hold a news conference in center city. kane is currently fighting back against calls for her impeachment. this after reports that an investigative grand jury is recommending criminal charges against kane. she's accused of leaking secret information to the media about another grand jury investigation. kane released a statement yesterday afternoon. in it she says, quote, i did nothing illegal, period. any fair and impartial review of the facts would conclude that. this seems to me to be another political attack on my attempt
to clean up harrisburg and its political culture. they have fought me all the way, i colluding an effort to impeach me. now to the terror in paris. key members of the french government will meet today to decide on new measures to prevent copycat attacks. 20 people are dead and that includes the three gunmen at the massacre aft satirical newspaper. french police continue to search for a fourth suspect still at large. she is the common law wife and alleged akoch police of one of the attackers. the state department here has issued an updated worldwide travel warning urging all americans to stay alert. there are no known terror threats against the u.s. right now but officials say the men who carried out the attack on the charlie hebdo newspaper received military training from al qaeda terrorists in yemen. they are seen as the biggest threat to the united states. >> much more dangerous than isis
because isis has never plotted so far attacks against the homeland. >> president obama says he remains hopeful that the immediate threat is resolved. he has assured france of american support. in philadelphia last night a crowd of nearly 200 people showed their support for the french at a rally in love park. >> it is a way for people to express their solidarity with the people in france. >> i lived in paris for six months and i saw exactly where it happened. >> the crowd there carried a different red, white, and blue flag and they held signs saying je suis charlie, i am charlie. from our south jersey bureau, the search continues for a missing mother from mount laurel. the woman's family now says her husband is nowhere to be found after police recently questioned him. erika crosby was last seen the evening of december 30th with her husband kyle crosby in cherry hill. nbc10 was outside of erica's
apartment in mount laurel last night where loved ones passed out fliers and prayed for her safe return. she posted a photo on facebook of her and kyle just before she vanished. her family tells us she would never leave her two young daughters behind. >> it's not like her to walk out and leave her kids. she loved her kids. right now we're pulling together as a family and we're just praying that she answers and we just want her to come home. >> erica's red ford taurus is also missing. police say if you know anything they would like you to give them a call. this morning a man killed in a police-involved shooting in cumberland county will be laid to rest if funeral services are set for 9:00 at chestnut assembly of god in vineland. he died on the 30th went afser erwhen officers opened fire. the officers found a gun inside
the car reid was riding in. the officers have been suspended until an investigation has been complete. now to news in montgomery county. officials have shut down a day care center after the death of a baby girl this week. the 5-month-old was enrolled at the school on east willow grove road. she died monday. the department of human services launched an investigation and said so far their officers have found more than a dozen violations at that day care. we did contact the day care for comment but have not heard back yet. today bucks county will open new court facilities in doylestown. the county will dedicate a new justice center at 10:00 this morning. the event will be marked with a ribbon cutting at the new building on north main street in doylestown. heads up for folks in atlantic county. residents who live near the atlantic city international airport may see and hear more military jets today. members of the new jersey air national guard will be conducting training exercises. the jets will be flying in the

night and has been charged with aggravated assault. zimmerman was acquitted in 2013 of a second degree murder charge of shooting death of trayvon martin. he is expected in court for this domestic violence charge at 9:00 this morning. in california police in san francisco are searching for the gun bhoon killed four people. their bodies were discovered late last night right in the middle of the street. police are investigating a motive in the killings and they are searching for a vehicle that could be connected. neighbors called police after hearing the rapid gunfire which they say sounded like fireworks. in north carolina mistaken identity may have led to a wife shooting her husband. a woman opened fire on her husband believing he was an intruder. according to investigators, the ft. bragg soldier was bringing his wife breckakfast in bed when she fired a gun through the bedroom door. he has a chest wound. police are investigating. this morning overseas search
crews lifted the tail section of the airasia plane that crashed into the java see. after it was pulled out of the water, the torn tail was put on a search vessel. it's now headed to port in indonesia. here's why this is significant. investigators hope that the black box recorders are still inside that tail. it could offer clues on why the jet crashed. the plane plummeted into the sea on december 28th with 16 the people onboard. so far, crews have recovered 48 bodies. 16 years worth of previously unseen boy scout files that contain allegations of sex abuse could soon be made public. a california judge ruled the files from 1991-2007 could be used as evidence in a molestation case later this month. that's the case of a former boy scout volunteer who pleaded no contest to child endangerment involving 13-year-old boy. scout filed from 1960 to 1991 have already been made public through other court cases. disgraced comedian bill

will have more coming up in the forecast. camden county is confirming a woman in voorhees died from the flu. she was a 40 years old and former college athlete. born did not receive the flu shot this season. her two children got sick around christmas just before she fell ill. born went to the emergency room on january 2nd but died two days later. in sdeldelaware the death toll is 11. officials confirmed more than 1300 cases of the virus. that's up from just over 1,000 cases the week before. health officials are urging people to get flu shots and wash their hands frequently. in pennsylvania 16 people have died from the flu this season. health workers say that's up 45% from three weeks ago. in this new year there is a renewed push to legalize medical marijuana in pennsylvania. state lawmakers are putting the bill back on the agenda in harrisburg. the legislation would allow

but the officer's actions will be subjective to an admin straight i review. the 10-year-old boy was heading to ois sleepover with friends when the officer's cruiser struck the boy as he crossed the drive. the accident happened just three days after christmas. according to investigators the officer was on his way to a non-emergency call for an unruly juvenile. investigators say the officer was driving at 74 miles an hour and his headlighting were on but not his emergency lights or his sirens. this morning we are learning more about this house fire in gloucester county. two police officers had to be treated for fine nor injuries and the homeowner went to the hospital with burns. the fire started here around 10:last night on washington avenue in monroe township. the cause is currently under investigation. in pocono mountains pennsylvania state police are investigating a shooting that happened last night at a travel
lodge on route 611 in monroe county. here's what we know at this point. three people were shot but no further details have been released. what we do know from police is that there is no threat to the public. firefighters and paramedics in philadelphia will soon be seeing more money in their paychecks. yesterday mayor michael nutter announced a new labor contract for the first responders. the deal got done through arbitration. the contract inquirely says salaryies by more than 9% over three years. another term of the deal, yun wron members with five or more years of experience can now live outside the city. it will cost the city $70 million. it was a show of support for police in montgomery county last night. organizers of this rally say they wanted to do something to counter the recent anti-police protests. supporters dressed in blue to make sure that officers everywhere know that they are appreciated. >> my father is a retired

friday. that leaves just three racetracks in the garden state. let's talk about gas prices. with the gas prices dropping there's a new push in washington to raise the federal gas tax. we found gas as low as $1.85 and $1.87 a gallon in gloucester county. they are some of the lowest gas prices we've seen in years. on capitol hill some lawmakers want to use this opportunity to raise the federal gas tax and pay for the country's crumbling roads and infrastructure. what are the chances it will happen? >> people will talk about raising the gas tax for a long time but it's never happened. i don't think it will this time. >> we don't necessarily worry about an increased in tax right now but for the first time in years there appears there may be some movement or at least a conversation on the issue. president obama wants everybody to go to college. he's introduced a plan to make the first two years of community college free for students across the country.
he's calling it america's college promise. students would need to maintain a 2.5 grade point average to make progress toward a degree. colleges with participating students would also have to offer academic programs that fully transfer to four-year colleges or job training programs that lead to degrees and certifications. the white house estimates that about 9 million studentsen could be helped if every state opted in. >> many people have the ability and the money to acquire college. and this alone will help out my life in a lot of ways. >> we've been talking to some of the community college folks in our area and officials at lehigh carbon community college say this program would also lead to a better trained workforce. critics worry about the $60 billion price tag. the time is 9:14. coming up in sports you'll see chip kelly like you've never seen him before. my emphasis on chip.
