no evidence of any bullet holes anywhere. reports that an hour later, similar shots were heard about a mile and a half down the same road. i'm not worried about it. i think the security of my home is fine. >> let's talk about the speech then. a lot was made about the fact that this was the first time the president was delivering a state of the union address in that room where both bodies of congress were controlled by the republican majority. you were hitting there. did the room feel different in more tension than normal? >> no it didn't. as a matter of fact it felt the opposite. i think what's happened is it's not donned on but the republicans realize they are in control and have to govern. it's a split government and they have the responsible of governing. that's why i'm more optimistic of getting things done than i was before. everybody knows they won the election and control both houses and now what are we going to do about the middle class?
7:07 am
what are you going to do to help the middle class? >> the one odd moment that a lot of people are talking about, mr. vice president where the president was talking about having arguments worthy of the body and the country and he said i have run my last campaign and there was a smattering of applause and maybe laughter from some republicans and the president shot back. did you see that as a moment of disrespect? was it a symptom of the very pettiness that the president was referring to? >> look matt. i sat through a lot of state of the union with eight different presidents. similar things have occurred. it's the nature of a body of 535 people and there is always something like that that comes out. i don't think it represented an institutional disrespect for the president. >> the president spent a lot of time talking about the economy. did you get a sense in that room
7:08 am
that there was a glimmer of hope that republicans in that room would be willing to go along with a tax hike on the wealthy to pay for that tax cut for the middle class. taking care of the middle class is not a partisan issue. the way you want to pay for it seems to be partisan. >> there is nothing partisan about saying this unique group of people gets $210 billion. the trust fund babies. if you go out, matt and buy stock and buy $10 and it appreciates to $20 and sell it you pay a capital gains on $10. if the person dies and they get the money, they pay no tax on that. it's trust fund babies. nobody thinks there is productive value to that and it's going to damage the wealth

or the capability of people who have that kind of money. the question is my dad said if everything is equally important, nothing is important. is it better to spend the money with that tax expenditure or by giving middle class people a break on child care or a tax break on home ownership or education? i don't think it's close. if you notice matt you have an awful lot of republicans claiming credit for the republicans. everybody acknowledges the recovery. how do you deal with the middle class back in fully. for the first time i don't think you have heard in the last eight years republicans use the phrase middle class as much as lately. they know they need respect to restore wealth and their income base. lastly matt the two things that will work as they said jobs and we will continue to track jobs from around the world

7:11 am
we brought it to the attention of the public. everybody said well yeah i guess we have to do something. we got it done. >> would you like the opportunity to work the room again from that podium? >> yeah by the way to be blunt i think i could do a good job, but that's not my focus now. my focus is keeping the recovery moving and i had plenty of time to make the decision between now and the summer and will make the decision in that time frame. >> vice president joe biden. nice to talk to you, sir. thank you very much for your time. >> thank you, matt i appreciate it. >> he had the best seat in the house with john boehner. you look over that state of the union address as the president delivers it and you are looking at democracy in front of you. >> with the presidency he wouldn't be the first vice president to do that. we will hear from him. let's go to natalie for the latest on isis. >> involving the two hostages secretary of state john kerry
