and right now at 11:00, a siberian blast. it is bitterly cold and it is not only cold, it is going to get worse. good morning. i'm vai sikahema. temperatures are about to plunge into record territory, reaching lows that in some cases haven't been seen in decades. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. you issued a first alert weather day for tonight and tomorrow? >> yes, for tonight and tomorrow and it is for the extreme cold and it is a combination of the temperature and the wind causing that first alert weather day. we have seen temperatures as cold as we are seeing right now, but it is going to get colder

tonight and the wind continues. so that creates dangerous conditions. feels like temperature 10 to 20 below zero even in and around philadelphia. areas to the north will be closer to 20 to 25 below zero. and you can get frostbite in 30 minutes of exposure. any part of your body that is exposed to the wind this is later tonight, there is that flag and it is blowing hard right now. it is only 19 degrees. 16 in allentown. 18 in mount holly. and feels even colder than that look at how low these temperatures are, back to the west. so even colder air is coming in. feels like 1 at the moment. 5 below in reading. 10 below in the poconos. and these temperatures are going way down. watch what happens as we go through the afternoon, and into tonight. the feels like temperatures going below zero. not so much by 5:00 but as we

the app store. skyforce10 over a house fire this morning in delaware county. crews responded to the fire on burton lane west in sharon hill. they did get the fire under control and there are no reports of any injuries. in the last few minutes, the fbi released new details on a missing couple mystery. richard petrone and danielle imbo vanished ten years ago today. cydney long joins us from center city. what is the fbi saying about this cold case? >> well the fbi with new jersey state police and mount laurel police as well as burlington county prosecutor's office have a renewed interest in this. they have not stopped working this case over an entire decade and they have developed some new and promising leads, especially over the last two years. but now as part of the initiative seasoned detectives and analysts and other detectives coming in. a new set of eyes will be looking to determine what

happened to richard petrone and danielle imbo on this day, february 19th, in 2005. ten years ago today, the anniversary. we can tell you richard petrone's parents were here today, danielle imbo's family was not present at this press conference that just wrapped up a few minutes ago. the fbi telling us clearly they are seeking help from the public, they need someone to come forward, someone who knows something. they say it is their belief that this was, in fact foul play that two people do not just disappear in a 3,000 pound truck, they have no evidence to support some of their theories and they wouldn't share all of their theories with us, but we're working to turn around some of the brand-new information they just shared with us and we'll have it for you coming up at 11:30. from the fbi philadelphia office cydney long nbc 10 news. >> nbc 10 is putting the spotlight on some cold cases in a special series called finding the forgotten. today at 4:00 we'll have the search for missing mother

nefertiti traitor. police say she was kidnapped right off her front porch in new castle county. eight months later, she still hasn't been found. no one has been arrested. we asked the experts why cases like this go unsolved and about the tools that police are using to get answers. opening statements are now under way in the murder trial for the black madam. she's accused of killing a woman after giving her an illegal silicone injection. nbc 10's monique braxton is live in center city this morning with an update on today's hearing. monique? >> reporter: vai, during pretrial motions which began an hour and a half ago, a female who travelled from new york talked about how she came here to have a butt injection by paige winslow in 2008. she also told the court she saw a friend of hers get sick. now, in a shocking situation, paige then took the stand. her attorney wanted to discredit what the witness said. he said that winslow told the court, the new york woman is

angry because she wanted to be a partner in winslow's business. on the stand, she admitted she did inject the butt of five women from new york. she injected their butts, under the name of body by lillian. she also said she was known as the, and we're quoting here michelangelo of body sculpting. she said she made lots of money doing it. 14 minutes ago, jurors began hearing evidence against the 45-year-old winslow, the so-called black madam is accused of injecting silicone in the rear of 20-year-old claudia rotini at this airport hotel in february of 2011 and causing her death. an aspiring hip-hop dancer had travelled from britain. winslow was picked up at a so-called butt pumping party one year later in february of 2012. during the pretrial tell exotic dancers testified winslow sealed

the injections with crazy glue and cotton balls and instructed the clients to drink plenty of water and refrain from sitting. i spoke to folks in the courthouse. they're under a gag order. they couldn't share much information. they told me they expect the trial to last about two weeks. if she's found guilty of third degree murder she could spend the rest of her life behind bars. no doubt we'll be following the testimony. live outside the courthouse, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. and still no arrest this morning in the philadelphia murder case involving a victim with ties to one of the music industry's biggest names. de'von pickett was a tour manager for nicki minaj. he was stabbed to death early yesterday in west oak lane. police say pickett was at the che bar and grill with friends when they got into a fight with another group of men. pickett was in town getting ready for minaj's next tour with philly rapper meek mill. nefertiti jaquez spoke with his

cousin. >> they were all here for her. i guess they -- just went wrong. >> pickett's co-worker on the minaj tour was also stabbed but is expected to recover. police are reviewing surveillance video. the city is offering a $20,000 reward in the case. happening today, bucks county, trial is expected to begin for a teenager accused of trying to rape another student at knife point in a school bathroom. cody hendricks was just 15 at the time of his arrest but he's charged as an adult. facing charges that include attempted murder. police say he chased a classmate at penn ridge high school with a knife, dragged her into a bathroom and tried to rape her before a teacher stopped him. and we're following breaking news just in to the newsroom. skyforce10 is live over a hit and run on 95 north at allegheny. officers telling us a car hit a police captain's vehicle. that's the black car there on

the scene. and then that car took off. the police captain suffered a minor injury. we'll continue to follow this story and we'll bring you information as we get it. looks like they're towing that car away. and this morning we're seeing documents that could outline how pennsylvania's attorney general would defend herself against possible criminal charges. kathleen kane is fighting the results of a grand jury. the panel recommended that charging her in connection with the leak of grand jury information. documents presented to the state supreme court yesterday, montgomery county judge said that he had the authority to appoint the special prosecutor that led to the grand jury probe. kane is challenging that saying declared unlawful. lawyers for the man accused of killing a 7-month-old want to take the death penalty off the table, now that pennsylvania governor tom wolf issued a moratorium on lethal injections in the state. ahmad rushdie is facing first, second and third degree murder in delaware county after police

charged him with killing hamza ali in 2013. he faces kidnapping and abuse of a corporation charges. his lawyers say the state should not be able to impose the death penalty because of the current moratorium. philadelphia's district attorney wants the state supreme court to get involved in the death penalty debate. >> people can differ on the death penalty, if we should have it. it is up to the state lawmakers to determine whether it is criminal law, what the punishments are. not the governor. >> williams calls the moratorium unconstitutional. meanwhile, governor wolf's office is firing back in regards to the pennsylvania constitution. a statement reads in part governor wolf has the power to grant reprieves. the governor took the action to place the moratorium on the death penalty because pennsylvania's capital punishment system is flawed. it is ineffective, expensive and many times unjust. a man claimed he was beaten up by police. there was just one problem. his real attacker turned out to

harriton high school in lower merion is dead after falling off a roof this weekend. 14-year-old graham dixon fell at his home on saturday. the school sent a letter home to all parents about the accident and has provided grief counselors for other students. president obama spoke to officials for more than 60 countries today as the world looks for ways to fight violent extremism. the white house organized a summit to address the problem after terrorist attacks in places like canada france and australia. today, the president said all countries have a responsibility to ensure the security of their citizens. >> we are all in the same boat. we have to help each other. and this work you will have a strong partner in me and the united states of america. >> president obama spoke about the new -- a new digital communications hub. members will work with religious and civic leaders around the world so that they can fight terrorist propaganda. family friends and loved ones are remembering kayla

mueller, the american aid worker killed after being captured by isis in syria. hundreds of people turned out for a memorial vigil in mueller's hometown of prescott arizona. this happened last night. the candlelight vigil focused on prayer, love and concern for others. mueller's family organized a canned food drive saying it would be consistent with kale why's ia's mission to help those in need. new developments in the crisis in ukraine. government forces are retreating from a town in eastern ukraine where ukrainian troops have not been able to stop the advance of pro russian rebels. ukraine's president is calling it a tactical withdrawal. but observers say it is one of the worst defeats of the war for ukraine. chairs flew and lawmakers traded punches during a brawl at turkey's parliament. five people were hurt yesterday. the fight started when some legislators tried to delay a

debate on a new security bill. the bill would expand police powers to break up demonstrations. happening today, police in washington state will update their investigation into a deadly shooting that is sparking outrage in the community. the incident caught on video last week appears to show the man throwing rocks at officers in the town of pascual, washington. moments later, the police shot and killed that man. some people are questioning the use of deadly force in the incident. the police chief says officers tried using a taser on the man, but it had no effect. >> got >> godalmighty help us they're killing us. >> it sparked a protest across the state. in seattle last night, some demonstrators compared the deadly incident to the killings of unarmed black men. take a look at this, a man in an oregon jail cell beating himself up and then claimed

police brutality. just one problem with that. this is all caught on surveillance video. the man claimed detectives gave him two black eyes last month while they questioned him. he later admitted to the lie saying he thought he could get out of that jail that way. the man pleaded guilty to filing a false report and was sentenced to time served. in texas, two teenagers face charges after police say they shot shoppers at a walmart with a blow gun. investigators say surveillance video shows one teen shooting metal darts from the back seat of a truck. one dart hit a 10-year-old boy in the arm while he was walking across the parking lot. minutes later, a woman in a motorized scooter said she was hit as she was loading shopping ingping bags into her car. >> it fell out. and i turned around and looked and saw this thing hanging out of my shoulder. >> both victims are okay. the teen faces felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. they deny those charges. on this cold day, a sign

that spring may not be that far away. phillies tickets going on sale earlier this morning. the first day of single game ticket sales for the team they want the usual long lines at citizens bank park but say they expect most people to order their seats online this year. and today pitchers and catchers are having their first workout of spring training. they reported to camp yesterday. players will get to camp next week. we'll stay on top of the phillies as they get ready for their season opener in clearwater. get updates with the nbc 10 news app. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> pretty cold in florida too. part of that same system that is affecting us and we have a first alert for tonight and into tomorrow for dangerous cold. record cold temperatures some of the coldest air we have ever seen this late in the season. and the weekend storm that does

look like there is going to be snow at least for part of the storm for a part of the area. accumulating snow. we have sunshine out there now. 19 degrees. 26 gusting to 33 miles an hour. so it feels like 1 degree out there. temperatures are in the teens, except for that 8 in mount pocono. and we're not going to be going much warmer than this. because more and more of that arctic air comes in. so we have a first alert weather day for tonight and into friday as this dangerous cold moves in the feels like temperature, 10 below to 20 below zero and you can get frostbite in only 30 minutes. any part of your body exposed your ears very vulnerable for example, there is the wind straight in out of the west gusting up to 30 to 40 miles an hour crosses the entire area now. and that's a pretty powerful wind considering how low the

temperature is. now, the feels like temperature, this afternoon, this is about as good as it is going to get, up to 3 in philadelphia. and then by 11:00 tonight, look at this this is 10 20 below zero. that's, again, dangerous cold if you're out there unexposed. and look at that 7:00 a.m. philadelphia, 21 below zero. trenton, 24 below. dover, 20 below zero. we have not seen windchills like that this winter. and, again, we rarely get it this late in the season. the sun's rays are getting stronger. we generally start warming up by now. by tomorrow afternoon, we're in the plus side but barely. and then tomorrow night, and into saturday morning, again, very cold with below zero windchills. we may see some lake effect streamers here some snow flurries starting to develop in central pennsylvania.

watch those later on during the day today. our future cast shows some of those developing. you get some quick light snow out of that along with the gusty winds. and if it starts lining up in one spot you can start to maybe even accumulate a little. that's not a part of this storm that is going to be coming in. now, the atmosphere is brutally cold now. trying to warm up very quickly. but can it warm up quickly enough? this next storm moving in so fast, new data suggesting even faster than we thought yesterday and we're talking about afternoon on saturday. comes in saturday afternoon, it is cold enough to snow. and heavy enough to accumulate. and then we get the warmer air coming in creating a mix on saturday night and later saturday night into sunday morning. it is warming up for rain. even up toward the poconos, perhaps. but certainly through much of the rest of the area. so the main threat is saturday

afternoon and early saturday evening. cold and windy today. high temperatures only in the upper teens. and with the wind gusts of 35 40 miles an hour, it is going it feel even colder. there is the record cold tonight. more on that coming up a little bit later. and there is saturday. afternoon snow. and much of the area, even parts of delaware, south jersey may start to snow change to a mix, and then to rain. that 31 degree temperature may not occur until close to midnight saturday night. that's how cold we'll start the day. we got a lot of warming to do to get above freezing and melt some of the snow as temperatures go into the 40s on sunday. that's one day of it and then the arctic air returns for next week. >> glenn, one hospital on alert because of a super bug that may have killed two patients and infected several others. now there is word on how they may have been exposed. a warning for people with peanut allergies. find out what spice to avoid for now.

officials at a los angeles hospital say a drug resistant super bug may have contributed to the deaths of two patients. they were among seven people who became infected with the become tearia ia bacteria during a procedure with a scope placed down their throats. 200 more patients were notified that they may have also been exposed to the super bug. but dr. bruce hensel says there is no risk of this spreading to the general public.

>> you're not going to give it to each other now. only if you got that scope procedure. otherwise, you don't have to worry. >> the hospital removed the devices that carried the bacteria and tightened the sterilization process. it is providing patients with free home testing kits. the government issues a new warning to people with peanut allergies. the fda advises people with peanut allergies to avoid cumin after shipments of the spice tested positive for peanuts not listed on the label. there have been recalls of hundreds of products containing cumin since december including spice mixes, beans and marinaded meats. the fda says if you suffered a reaction to contact them. police hope new surveillance video will help catch an assault suspect. the whole incident was caught on camera. things got heated inside a fast food restaurant and that's when a fist flew. we'll have more of this video straight ahead. plus this car is frozen in place. we'll show you how this vehicle

11:30. skyforce10 is live above breaking news in new jersey. firefighters are battling this house fire in millville. that's in cumberland county. smoke still pouring from the roof of the building. no word on how this started or if there are any injuries but you see flames there on the other side of the building. and ladder there pouring water on to the building. we'll continue to follow the story. we'll make phone calls and bring you information as we get it. and right now at 11:00, a siberian blast, a live look at boathouse row and the schuylkill river, frozen over. ice and snow and it is only going to get worse. nbc 10's first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now with the bitterly cold forecast.

glenn? >> vai our area is coming in effect from siberia. and tonight is going to be the worst of it. and we issued the first alert for tonight and into tomorrow for this dangerous cold that is coming in it is a combination of the low temperatures, plus the wind making it feel like it is 10 to 20 below zero by tomorrow morning. you can get frostbite in just 30 minutes, any part of the body that is exposed could be potentially getting frostbite. temperatures are in the teens right now. it is bitter cold. not going to help with that -- putting out that fire. and it is even colder back to the west. close to zero degrees. temperatures, not the windchill. here is the windchill right now. 1 in philadelphia. 1 below is the way it feels to your exposed skin in dover. and 5 below in reading. how much lower is that going to go? well by this afternoon, we're,

again, close to zero and into tonight, we start going below zero. the wind keeps up. the temperature keeps going down. so it feels colder and colder. there is below zero at 7:00 tonight. so anybody heading out late tonight got to cover everything up. and by 11:00, already to 10 below, even in philadelphia 15 below in allentown and reading. we'll see just how cold it is going to get and how long it will stay that way and the timing on the next winter storm. it is not just snow across the area. that coming up with the seven-day in a few minutes. >> glenn, it is cold here. not as bad as other places. check this out. this is caught on police dash cam video. a close call of an interstate in tennessee. watch again as that pickup truck loses control on the black ice, nearly hits a department of transportation worker that is standing there. that worker was at the scene of a tractor trailer accident. police did not file charges

against the driver of that pickup truck. another wintry scene in baltimore. this car frozen solid to the ground. that's not going anywhere, folks. water main break flooded the area. passing cars continued to splash water on the parked vehicle and the result is that car is frozen in time and in place. the cold weather is a concern for kids waiting at the bus !@f5ñstop. matt delucia spoke with parents and doctors and there is a much bigger concern out there than frostbite. >> reporter: cold morning today and another one in store tomorrow. most kids are not outside in exposed long enough to get frostbite according to a pediatrician at bryn mawr hospital. a much bigger problem is if your child has a breathing issue. 6.8 million children in the u.s. have asthma according to the cdc. that's almost 1 in 10. we are expecting the windchill to dip from the single digits down below zero over the next couple of days and that can present a big problem if(ñk you're not ready. >> kids who have an issue with

breaking news in new jersey, we brought you a few minutes ago. firefighters are battling this house fire this is in millville, new jersey cumberland county above this fire, you see flames smoke, shooting out of the roof of that building, but firefighters are standing on that roof just to the left there. we just learned the fire has grown to three alarms at this point. no word on how it started or any injuries, but firefighters are also on the ground, working on fighting this fire. we'll continue to follow this story and bring you updates as we get it. ten years ago today, richard petrone and danielle imbo vanished without a trace. the disappearance is still uninvolveun unsolved. the fbi announced new steps it is taking to solve this mystery. cydney long has more. you just spoke to the feds? >> reporter: vai, that's right. i just got done speaking with fbi agents as well as police upstairs on the eighth floor here at the philadelphia fbi office.

they have honestly been baffled by this disappearance, this very bizarre disappearance for ten years now. but what they just told me is they believe that it is solvable. they told me they have devoted both seasoned detectives some on the disappearance of danielle imbo and richard petrone, since it broke, as well as new detectives, so new sets of eyes as well as an analyst who will take a close look at anything they have missed over the years in their very lengthy case file. they may also reinterview people close to both the imbo and petrone families. the couple vanished from the now defunct abilene bar on south street. there is not any surveillance footage in that area or on the area bridges into new jersey to review. so they're relying on someone who knows something to break their silence and come forward. take a listen to what we just found out. >> given the circumstances surrounding danielle and richard's disappearance, it is our belief this was an act of foul play. a 3,000 pound truck and two

the trial of a washington township police officer accused of misconduct. after arresting an assembly man on drunk driving charges. he's accused of falsifying records when he arrested paul more artie on dwi charges in 2012. he faces more than a dozen counts against him. officials eventually dropped the drunk driving charges against moriarti. an arraignment hearing scheduled to be happening for a man accused of trying to vandalize a septa bus. police say david toledo placed a mouse trap with nails under the wheel of the vehicle. happening today, news about a tool to help salve overdose victims. officials from the philadelphia police and fire departments are set to announce that police and firefighters will be armed with a drug that treats heroin overdoses. both departments will talk about

their decision to use the drug. a drug that is trademarked as narcan. the medication can reverse heroin overdose. a man makes a wild discovery in his house, a big bird flies into his bedroom and the hawk creates some havoc. the aftermath is caught on camera and we'll hear from the homeowner coming up. after this blast of cold weather moving through, weekend storms will arrive. will it bring rain snow freezing rain or all of the above? we'll show you what to expect where you live ahead in the first alert seven-day forecast.

like temperature in the poconos, as we go through the night tonight, and into tomorrow morning, 30 to 35 below zero. we have a first alert weather day for the entire region because we're going to be seeing this dangerous cold with feels like temperatures of 10 to 20 below in the philadelphia area. 20 to 25 below in some of the coldest northern suburbs. and you can get frostbite in 30 minutes of exposure. just a little bit. even just your ear being exposed. that is painful. now you can see temperatures in the teens right now despite the sunshine. the average high is 45 for this time of the year. there are the strong winds coming in from the west. 30 to 40-mile-an-hour wind gusts now. we're going to see those gusts throughout the day. and it is going to feel like it is close to zero, much of the day. the way it feels now. 10 below zero to 20 below even

by 11:00 tonight. and then it gets even worse. and this computer model showing 21 below in philadelphia. 21 below in dover. 21 below in toms river. 19 below in atlantic city. tomorrow morning is going to be the coldest feeling morning that we have seen all winter by a good bit. zero in the afternoon for the feels like temperature tomorrow. the whole day, brutally cold tomorrow night is brutally cold. not quite as extreme as tonight. looking for some -- little bit of lake-effect snow flurries call them streamers when they start lining up like that. some of our computer models suggesting that does increase during the afternoon. and we'll keep an eye on that on the radar. you can see a lot of places miss getting that snow. that's going to be different story with what happens on saturday. there is going to be a storm coming in from the west.
