suspect or suspects involved in the shootings of two officers there. national correspondent craig melvin is on the story. good morning to you. >> reporter: the two officers are at home with their families and they are expected to recover. meanwhile a senior law enforcement official told me while they have strong leads in the case at this point they do not have any suspects. as the intense manhunt continues overnight, so did the protests. overnight dozens of protesters gathered and chanted outside the ferguson police department as people here grapple with another outbreak of the violence that plagued this community for months. they cleared the streets and some were met with angry words. nothing like the night before. two officers were shot as they stood guard outside the police

station, an intense manhunt still under way. >> it's an ugly reminder of what can happen. people out here want to hurt the police. >> three people were taken in for questioning and soon released. police say they don't have any suspects. president obama appeared on jimmy kimmel live and condemned the violence. >> it was oppressive and objectionable and worthy of protest, but there was no excuse for criminal acts. >> attorney general eric holder was more blunt. >> this was a damn punk. punk. >> one of the protesters hopes for the officers's recovery but is determined not to let the shootings slow their movement. >> what's the end game? >> the end game is to continue. continue to fight until we have a system that is going to be equal for everyone.

into the shooting of the two officers. can you tell me about where the investigation stands and if they are closer to closing in on a suspect or suspects? >> they are working very hard and the community came tolg on this. there is a reward offer and many of the protests in the community have spoken out in dramatic terms about how disappointed they are that some thug would come to a peaceful protest site and commit a violent act like this against police officer who are doing their jobs. >> other jurisdictions commented they will manage security for any protests or demonstrations that happened there. are you concerned about a climate of danger about police wearing any uniform could be a target. >> this is a bigger issue than ferguson. we have a disconnect between

communities and law enforcement. it only works if the people believe in it. we have to go back to the drawing board and get back to policing models. there is healing going on and there is reform going on. that needs to be happening in many communities across this country. >> that leads me to my next question. the municipal judge and the police chief. has ferguson done enough to clean house or do you think the federal government needs to shut this place department down? >> i think there a lot of discussions ongoing about the future of the ferguson police department. i want to point out that we have elections in a very few days. there new people who are running for office. we have three new council people in ferguson and hope they realize this is the moment where you exercise the muscle of democracy that you vote and participate. that's the other thing that has gone on.

folks have not stepped up to be part of the government but criticize the government. >> let me try to pin you down. do you take a position on whether they should shut down the police department and dismantle it? >> they need to do what they are doing and tell the police department that some of the conduct they engaged in is unacceptable and they must change it. this will happen in a cooperative fashion moving forward. a lot of people are committed to the reforms. >> thanks for being here and we appreciate it. >> new developments on the fraternity scandal. the local chapter is considering taking legal action against the school for the way they're handling the incident. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. kfor reports that the local chapter, members and alumni held a meeting and decided to retain an attorney to consider options including the possibility of

legal action. it is the latest in a scandal that rocked this campus. this shocking video sparked outrage and swift action from the university of oklahoma. kfor is reporting that the local chapter of sigma alpha epsilon hired steven jones who represent represented timothy mcveigh in the oklahoma city bombing trial. they are outraged about shutting doup the fraternity house and branding members as bigots. he said the two students who expelled apologized and lacked judgment in the social setting, but the fraternity should not be tarred and feathered as racists. some have questioned whether they violated free speech laws. >> they do have a first amendment law to express even

repulsive points of view as long as they don't threaten a specific person. >> they call the racist behavior a horrible cancer that entered the house three or four years ago. they said they have not verified reports of the chant being used beyond ou but is investigating racism at louisiana tech university. thursday at ou instead of practice, the football team held a silent protest, black and white players, hand in hand. >> they put a lot of time into how they can affect change and how to go about doing it. >> we wanted to portray coming together. not just a locker room but nationwide. >> sae's national headquarters said they have not engaged with the local chapter since it was shut down. we reached out to the officials and have not heard back.

carson? >> thanks gabe. >> let's go to washington. mounting anger over the latest embarrassing incident. two senior agents accused of hitting a barrier in their car after a night of drinking. we have more on this story. good morning. >> according to a white house official pop did not learn about this latest incident involving two agents who were allegedly under the influence until earlier this week when joseph clancy found out. that was days after it happened. all this is raising new questions about the new's appointed ability to turn around the troubled agency and lawmakers want to hear from clancy. president obama on a trip out west has yet to comment on the latest secret service scandal involving two senior agents mark conley and george ogilvie. the president is disappointed.

according to sources familiar with the investigation, last wednesday they had been at this washington bar at a going away party for one of the coworkers. they drove a mile away to the white house after a woman drove up to the southeast gate carrying a parcel wrapped in a green shirt which she said was a bomb. when they arrived, they drove through into a barrier interrupting an active bomb scene investigation. mounting outrage. >> we made major changes in regard to leadership. obviously there is a lot of work to be done. >> last night the committee overseeing the secret service released a statement calling it unacceptable and highlighting reports that they ordered other officers to let the two agents go instead of arresting them. this presents a fresh test for joseph chancer who was brought in to revamp the troubled agency in the wake of embarrassments

station attendant to call 911, crouching down to hide fearing his is in danger three nights after the boston marathon bombing. he dashed there, fleeing for his life. he was carjacked at gunpoint after the brothers were on the mit campus where they murdered a police officer. they used his atm to get cash and stopped to get gas and load up on snacks. that's when he made a run for it. inside the gas station, he found a place to hide. >> i have one come inside now and he tells me -- >> ming takes the phone. >> please help. someone took my car. they are the suspects on the marathon bombing. please help me they have guns. >> they asked nbc news to

once again, the nation's top hospital is preparing containment to treat a patient who could be critically ill. they had been on the frontlines of ebola working in the country of sierra leone. >> we learned about how to take care of these people and i would hope and expect this person after going through a rough period might well get better and be able to leave. >> the nih in maryland cared for patients before. >> our patient is free of ebola. >> last october nina pham went home aftercaring for thomas duncan. the eight americans have lived, but duncan from liberia and a doctor from sierra leone both died after being treated in u.s. hospitals. the death toll in west africa stands at 10,000. >> it has not gone away.

isis fighters attack them at this new frontline at night. isis has been driven back three miles from here but they are not gone. that's why the kurds are not dropping their guard. so isis is being squeezed on two fronts. in tikrit it's iranian-backed and u.s. aircraft not involve and they are watching that attack very slowsly. >> thank you very much. a former reality tv producer was convicted thursday of murdering his wife while on vacation in mexico. he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. in 2010 the former survivor producer was in cancun with his wife and two children when her body was found at the resort where they were staying. he is expected to appeal. incredible video out of colorado. a car crashing through a pizza

shop with a woman on the hood of the car. security video from inside show slows the car hit the woman and smashed through the front window. she jumped right up and off that car. thankfully the woman was not seriously injured. the driver hit the gas instead of the brake. unbelievable. a spectator is to blame in the netherlands. lock at the right of your screen. someone reached out and grabbed the handle bards ask she flew over and landed on her back. she crueled over the finish line and suffered a broken collarbone. that spectator has not been charged. >> remember the tour de france when people were taking selfies.

viewer outrage was swift. they released a statement announcing the firing of figueroa saying his comments were reprehensible and in no way reflect values or views. many supported the firing tweeting freedom of speech doesn't mean there won't be consequences for what you say. say what you want, but be ready for the fallout. sad to see they say everybody makes mistakes. racism is not something you dismiss as a mistake. late thursday he released an open letter directed at the first lady apologizing and saying he was referring to the artist's make up and not michelle obama herself and blamed the termination on the first lady and saying due to a complaint from your office i was fired. the white house is not commenting on the story. nbc news washington. >> what is wrong with people?
