nbc 10 news starts now. >> i heard a bang, like a big bang. >> a small plane comes crashing down many a chester county neighborhood. tonight two men are dead and the investigation into what caused that crash is just beginning. good evening. i'm george spencer. the pilot appeared to lose control of that plane just before it went down. it crashed near saunders lane in west goshen township. that's about two miles from brandywine airport, where it took off. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live at the airport. and what are investigators saying tonight, randy? >> reporter: well george they
confirmed two men were on board the aircraft, both of them killed. one of them lives here in chester county. now aircraft come in and out of brandywine airport every single day. this is the first time in some ten years they've had a deadly accident in this case right after takeoff. when you live next to an airport, you get used to the sounds of takeoffs and landings. so when the small piper aircraft started making strange noise, witnesses knew something was wrong. >> shortly after taking off, the plane started to sputter. and then basically took a nosedive and came down in the woods behind us. >> stalled, the plane is about 20 feet up in the air. >> people driving by say the plane burst into flame, the pilot crashing into a wooded area not far from houses and a senior living apartment complex. >> came down past the retirement home there, saw flames coming up. we thought it was a brushfire. >> reporter: both a pilot and passenger were killed on impact.
west goshen officials say one of the victims was a local and lived here in the township. it's unclear if the pilot tried to avoid the nearby houses but nobody on the ground was injured. >> couldn't see anything. just heard a big bang. >> reporter: frank cross lives in the apartment complex next door. >> very close. so thank god for the pilot. but then you know, the pilot and his passenger didn't make it, which is sad. sad to hear that the people didn't make it. >> hear airplanes take off when i was a kid. we'd drive down there, check them out. it's shocking when something like this happens this close to home. >> reporter: now officials tell me the ntsb will arrive here from florida tomorrow. investigators will look into exactly why the plane fell out of the sky. right now, though, the identities of the two victims are being kept private. live in chester county randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. new tonight, and we now know the identity of the darby borough police officer who was shot inside his delaware county home.
26-year-old officer mark hudson died at the hospital a short time later and now we've learned his girlfriend is expected to be arraigned tonight on previous domestic violence charges. at the yeadon fire company today, we watched hudson's friends and colleagues hanging black and purple bunting outside. they also placed it around the locker of the young man who died less than 24 hours earlier. mark hudson was a volunteer firefighter in yeadon since he was 16 years old and worked as a darby borough police officer. >> it's difficult. we're here together trying to grieve as a group. >> reporter: hudson's fire chief told us today the 26-year-old was considered a big success story. but yesterday afternoon he was shot in the chest with his own service revolver in a second floor bedroom inside his own home in darby township and later died at the hospital. overnight investigators questioned hudson's girlfriend
who was at the officer's home at the time. for his long-time firehouse friends, it's a sudden void. >> he's everybody's friend. he's got this infectious smile. and he is just goofy and he is fun to be around. >> reporter: sources tell us the couple had a history of domestic problems. at the darby borough police station tonight we watch residents dropping off food for hudson's fellow officers, who are mourning a true community servant. >> he grew to love serving people. and that's subsequently how he ended up being a police officer. >> sources tell us hudson's girlfriend was hospitalized after questioning with an unrelated medical condition. he is expected to be arraigned at her hospital bedside tonight on previous domestic charges as the investigation into her boyfriend's killing continues. now your nbc 10 first alert weather.
>> and now to our weather. it is not a bad night for walk in center city but some people may see showers and possibly even flurries tomorrow morning. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena parveen is here with what we will wake up to on your monday morning. sheena? >> yeah george. some of luis be waking up with some showers. i don't think it will be everybody. but we are tracking rain off to our west right now. and you notice some snow with this. i don't think it will amount to much overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning, but don't be surprised if you're north and west when you see some of this. early morning hours, we'll have the clouds around 8:00 a.m. we'll see some showers through the area. but again, doesn't look extremely widespread. so as you're heading on the roadways tomorrow morning, new jersey and delaware temperatures mid- to upper 30s. chance of a shower here around the philadelphia area around the i-95 area temperatures mid 30s to near 40 degrees around 8:00 a.m. with a chance of a shower. don't be surprised if you see that. areas north and west. some models have been picking up on the possibility of a couple of snowshowers. again, i don't think it will
amount to much. but temperatures will be in the low 30s. coming up, we are talking also about warmer temperatures this week. more rain chances, and also your easter sunday forecast. that's all coming up in about ten minutes. >> thanks sheena. septa is optimistic that service will be restored on the manayunk north town regional rail line in time for tomorrow morning's commute. this after yesterday's warehouse fire in north philadelphia. nbc 10 crew saw lni investigators at the site. a wall of the warehouse next to the tracks was unsafe and needed to be demolished before service could resume. but lni said they couldn't bring that wall down until fire investigators concluded their investigation. the red cross is assisting seven people after fire damaged their apartments this morning. one person also suffered smoke inhalation when flames breck out associate the complex on east
ash street in east germantown that man is expected to be okay. investigators are still looking into what sparked that fire. and fire also rips through a popular north philadelphia bakery, causing some serious damage. crews were called to denise's delicacies on north 22nd street around 2:30 this morning. officials tell us the fire started in the basement but did not end up spreading to the apartments above. no one was hurt. a man in his 20s is hospitalized in stable condition tonight after someone stabbed him in the head. it happened around 3:00 this morning inside a house on in philadelphia's hunting park neighborhood. right now police are looking for the attacker but they have not indicated what led up to that stabbing. opening statements are set for tomorrow in the case against six former philadelphia narcotics officers who are accused of robbing suspected drug dealers. prosecutors say thomas licardello brian reynolds
michael spicer and perry bet robbed of cash and drugs. he is accused of dangling one of the suspects over an 18th floor balcony to get the name of his supplier. all six of the men have pleaded not guilty. a bike riding to reduce gun violence. today gun control advocates came together in maple glen montgomery county. they cheered on 26 cyclists taking part in the third annual bike ride from newtown, connecticut down to washington, d.c. these cyclists are honoring the 26 children and teachers who were killed in the 2012 shooting at newtown's sandy hook elementary school. >> i think what the great message is that anybody can do something to take a stand against gun violence. and these guys and women are great athletes and bikers. and this show they're doing it. they have become a real symbol
of hope and of movement. >> now ultimately, that ride will end at the steps of the capitol in washington, d.c. south jersey is honoring local citizen soldiers just before their deployment. nbc 10 was in cherry hill camden county where military leaders commended dozens of members of the 328th military police company new jersey army national guard. they are deploying to guantanamo bay, cuba, where they will escort and provide security for detainees. we spoke to the father of one of the soldiers. >> oh yes, the whole family is here to support here. we're definitely going to miss her. we're very proud of her. and it's such an honor and privilege to have a daughter follow in our footsteps. >> the guard members come from a number of new jersey counties including atlantic, burlington, and camden. right now to some breaking news that is coming to us out of bucks county.
nbc 10 has confirmed there is a police involved accident at north route 1 and route 13 in falls township. right now you're looking at a live picture from the scene there of a traffic camera. we're told that three vehicles including an unmarked police car, were involved in this accident. right now the nbc 10 newsroom is working to find out exactly what happened, and also to figure out if anyone at that scene was hurt. ♪ it was a palm sunday celebration in center city. parishioners received palms before entering the basilica of st. peter and paul for mass this morning. palm sunday, of course the start of holy week on the christian calendar. the day marks jesus' entry into jerusalem, where christians say crowds greeted him by waving palms. ♪
also today pope francis held a palm sunday mass in st. peter's square. thousands of tourists and pilgrims flocked to the vatican for the religious service. the pope and other bishops at the mass wore bright red robes to recall jesus' death by crucifixion. it is -- >> we were coming in quite hard in the storm and everything else. when he clipped a wire you knew something was wrong. >> we started running away from the plane. >> it is a new scare in the air, and passengers were running for safety after a hard landing. what investigators are saying tonight about what went wrong. and the phillies' home opener is coming up fast. the change that fans need to know about before heading to the stadium this year. and of course we want some warm weather for that. but i am tracking warmer weather as we go through this week and some more rain chance. that's coming up in your nbc 10 first alert weather forecast.

we have an update now on breaking news coming to us out of bucks county. nbc 10 has learned that several people are being taken to the hospital after a police-involved accident at north route 1 and route 13. that's in falls township. again, this is a live picture from that scene from the traffic camera there. we're told that three vehicles including an unmarked police car
were involved in this crash. and again, the newest information is that there are injuries. right now we are hearing it may in fact be a falls township police officer who is injured. obviously the entire nbc 10 news team is checking on this right now, making calls. and we will bring you more information as soon as we get it. all but one of the passengers injured on an air canada plane that made a hard landing and then skidded off a runway in halifax, nova scotia are out of the hospital tonight. the airbus a320 was flying from toronto to halifax during a snowstorm overnight when authorities say the plane touched down short of the runway and skidded for 1100 feet before it finally came to a stop. passenger says the plane hit a power line and the airport temporarily lost electricity. >> everybody started running. there was people running off into the snowbanks and
everywhere else. >> pouring out of the plane. >> there were sparks and there was smoke. so we were worried about it. >> this is the second incident this month that involved a plane sliding off the runway during a snowstorm. tonight air canada says it is fully cooperating with the transportation safety board to find out exactly what went wrong. and today a german newport published an account of the final moments of the germanwings passenger jet that crashed in the french alps on tuesday. nbc's katy tur is in cologne, germany with more on that report. >> reporter: it was in piloting gliders that friends say andreas lubitz first realized his dream of flight. friends who flew with him say it was clear he had a love for the sky. what is still not clear, though is why he would crash a plane carrying 149 others into the side of a mountain. no answers, but today the german tabloid bild reported a timeline
of the flight's last minutes from the cockpit voice recorder. the flight started normally with the captain apologizing for a delay. during the ascent is he mentions the copilot andreas lubitz that he didn't get a chance to use the rest room. lubitz tells the captain he can take over at any time. the captain asks lubitz to prepare for landing at doesle door dusseldorf. the captain leaves and shortly after he is gone lubitz can be heard pushing his chair back. the door clicks shut. the plane begins to descend. air traffic control calls. no answer. the captain begins yelling on the door yelling for god's sake, open the door. passengers scream in the background. nbc news has not confirmed this account. and authorities will neither confirm nor deny it. still, as the search continues, lubitz's motive remains a mystery. was it a personal crisis depression or another medical issue? lubitz had seen doctors for
problems with his vision according to multiple reports. although it's unclear how severe. but as investigators try to sort it all out, this grieving father says it hardly matters. >> if there was a motive or a reason we do not want to hear it. it's not relevant. what is relevant is it should never happen again. our son and everyone on that plane should not be forgotten, ever. >> reporter: investigators have confirmed they have dna for about half of the victims. they're going to match that up with the dna they've been able to gather from the family members out there. but still, quite a ways to go before they're going to be able to bury their dead. in cologne, germany, katy tur, nbc news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, pretty nice end to your weekend. a sunny day, but kind of a cool day too. we are tracking now some showers for part of the area early tomorrow morning. we could see a few showers
around. some of you could see a few passing snowshowers. don't think it will amount to too much snow. then we go through the afternoon tomorrow, and the temperatures warm up. about 10 degrees or so warmer than today. and before the week is over we have 60-degree temperatures ahead. some days we could be close to 70 degrees. right now we're in the 30s, though. 36 in redding. 35 pottstown in west chester. 37 philadelphia. some areas in south jersey like millville already coming in in the upper 20s. it's going to be a cold start to the morning tomorrow as you head out and hit the roadway north and west we could see a chance of a shower. maybe a rain or snow shower. 29 degrees by 7:00 a.m. philadelphia around 33 degrees with a chance for a light rain shower. and in a suburb temperatures right around freezing with a chance of a shower. but this will be a smaller chance through morning hours although there will be moisture around. be very careful if you're driving tomorrow morning. here is a look at the radar now. we are fairly dry. but just off to the west we have rain and snowshowers. this is mostly going to be on
the lighter side. some of this could impact part of the morning commute for some of you. so here is future weather overnight tonight. we do stay fairly dry. a few passing showers possible. early tomorrow morning, 9:00 a.m. showing some rain showers around, possible snowshowers areas north and west. so don't be surprised if you see that in the morning. through the afternoon, we'll see the clouds breaking up. temperatures warmer through the afternoon. about the upper 50s for some of you that will be close to 10 degrees warmer than today. then we go into tuesday and the chance for showers goes up again. another area of weather starts to move through. so by 9:00 tuesday morning, snowshowers possibly in the poconos and the areas north and west. then we continue to see this moisture hang around by noon. still looking into the chance for snow north and west. and then rain a little closer to philadelphia through tuesday afternoon, and evening for the evening commute. we could be dealing with some heavy rains. so maybe a little more widespread through the dion tuesday. for tonight, though, clouds are increasing. chance of shower overnight tonight. 33 for the low in philadelphia. 28 degrees areas north and west.
and north and west will be the best chance to see that snow shower. early in the morning tomorrow. but by the afternoon, clouds are breaking. temperatures are warming. mid- to upper 50s through the day. and then on tuesday, we see that chance of showers come back into the forecast. on wednesday sunny, low 50s. so still cool. but then look at thursday. upper 60s, possibly a warmer day. same thing friday. a warmer day. but then we'll be dealing with rain. and maybe the chance of a thunderstorm. well, the phillies open their season next monday at citizen's bank park. and fans going to the game will notice some new security. for the first time, all fans entering the ballpark will be required to walk through metal detectors just before their tickets are scanned. last year only fans using the right field gate were scanned as part of a pilot program. the add security is part of a major league baseball mandate that all fans are subject to metal detection screening. and of course speaking of the phillies, nbc 10 is your home for that home opener.

a man is lucky to be alive after falling ten feet below ground right into a sinkhole. it happened last night in glass port allegheny county. that's not far from pittsburgh. emergency responders say the man called him after he fell into that now covered sinkhole. they gave him oxygen and then used a tripod and rope system to lift him right out of the hole. >> i'm very surprised. i'm surprised he is not injured more than he was. it's definitely dangerous. >> right now there is no word on exactly how long that man was stuck down in the sinkhole or his current condition. officials there will meet soon to discuss repairs. march gas prices came in like a lion and they looked to be heading out in the same way. the national average price for regular gas remained unchanged this week at $2.43 a gallon.
still, that is six cents higher than a month ago. analysts say gas prices could rise in the coming weeks, assuming crude oil prices continue their rebound. prices here in our region have fallen though, in the past week. the average in the five-county philadelphia area is now $2.50. drivers in delaware can expect to pay $2.25 a gallon. the lowest local prices though are in south jersey where the average is at $2.12. cyberattacks at one of our area's biggest universities. up next, the warning going out to students. and we're gathering new information about the breaking news in bucks county. a police officer is involved in a crash. we'll have the latest, next.

nbc 10 breaking news. >> we have been following breaking news out of bucks county since the top of the hour. nbc 10 has learned that a falls township police officer was one of five people who were hurt in a crash on north route 1 and route 13 in falls township. right now this is a live picture of the scene from a traffic
camera there police say the officer's injuries are not life threatening. we're told there were three vehicles involved in the crash, and a total of five people went to the hospital there is still no word on what caused the accident. out of new york this evening, families comfort each other after learning the bodies of two people missing in a building collapse have now been recovered. tonight the investigation into what brought down the new york city buildings continues. thursday's explosion leveled three apartment buildings in manhattan's east village. ida siegal from our sister station in new york reports. >> reporter: slowly but surely workers are making progress with the enormous piles of rubble. tonight the fire commissioner confirmed they made two disturbing discoveries today. the bodies of the men who had gone missing and were feared dead. >> first victim that was found was found about 20 feet from the front entrance of the building. the second victim was found
about 20 feet further back. the feeling is everyone who had been reported missing has now been found. >> reporter: though they have not officially identified the bodies the families of 23-year-old nicholas figueroa and 27-year-old moises rocon have been told their loved had been found. tonight they embrace, sharing this unique moment of grief. well spoke with his brother. he said his brother worked hard as a busboy to support their parents in guatemala. this is a spokesperson for both families. >> it's four brothers that are here. they've been crying a lot. i'm trying to make them know that new york city loves them and everyone is here to help them. and they're not alone. >> reporter: meanwhile, the investigation into the cause is still focused on an attempt to steal gas in the building. what made things worse, say officials, the landlord told tenants not to call 911 if they
smelled gas. >> when they smelled the gas, the restaurant owner called the owner of the building which was a major mistake. they should have called 911. we don't know what the outcome would have been. but that's what they should have done. >> that was ida siegal reporting. and you can read more than building explosion by visiting our website at nbc10.com. and when new information comes out about the cause of the blast, we'll have it for you on the nbc 10 news app. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> it is not exactly what many of us would call bike riding weather out there. another chilly night in center city. this person is riding her bike anyway there is hope of warmer days ahead that is keeping many of us going. first alert meteorologist sheena parveen is here with what we can expect tomorrow morning. >> well, george we're tracking some showers for parts of the area tomorrow morning. i don't think it's going to be very heavy. but off to our west we have some rain and snowshowers.
so an area of disturbed weather is going to try to pass through. currently, we have some snowshowers and some rain showers moving in to central pa. and this will be around mainly areas north and west of philadelphia. that's going to be the best chance for any snowshowers early tomorrow morning here is look at future temperatures and future precipes. so as we go overnight, temperatures keep on dropping. by 4:00 a.m. we could have a few showers moving through. but pretty quickly not too much. by the early morning hours tomorrow we expect to be in the 30s and 40s by 10:00 a.m. and notice how you see some green here. so some passing showers around there is a chance we could have a few snowshowers reports at lehigh valley, the poconos. just be careful if you're driving tomorrow morning and you happen to run into that. otherwise, tomorrow afternoon is going to be warmer than it was this afternoon. and we're also talking about temperatures in the upper 60s before the week is over. coming up, i'll show you when we can expect that and also your easter forecast. that's right ahead. there is new information tonight on reports about peeping
tom at a montgomery county target store. tonight the abington police confirm they have caught the suspect. earlier this week we told you about a woman who said she caught someone spying on her in a dressing room at that store on old york road. today she reached out to us again, saying she went back to the same target, and the same thing happened again. police have not yet released the suspect's name. tomorrow philadelphia leaders will start a new push to make food trucks in the city safer. the nbc 10 investigators have been reporting on the stalled efforts to get food trucks inspected. this after a deadly explosion in north philadelphia last july. several councilmembers tried to get a bill passed last fall. but that never got through the council. tomorrow members will hear new testimony on the bill. it calls for regular inspections of fuel tanks on those trucks. the fbi is investigating cyberattacks at rutgers university. the attacks apparently
originated from china and ukraine, and interrupted rutger's computer network during the past two days. the university sent an e-mail to tens of thousands of students this afternoon informing them about what had happened. it is not yet clear if any academic or personal information was compromised. today arab leaders promised that military air strikes in yemen will continue. until rebels withdraw and surrender their weapons. a coalition led by saudi arabia began bombing that country on thursday. they're going after rebels who have been seizing territory in the country since last fall. those rebels are backed by iran. tonight talks on scaling back iran's nuclear program are going down to the wire. there are just two days before the deadline for an initial agreement. western officials say tehran is considering demands for further cuts to its uranium enrichment program. but they're pushing back on how
long it must limit technology it to use to make atomic arms. america's goal of course a long-term curb on iran's nuclear activities. well tomorrow morning on the "today" show matt lauer talks to the three daughters of the late ellen brodie. brodie was the new york woman whose suv was struck by a metro north train back in february. that crash had a local connection. joseph nadoliii was one of the passengers killed. that 42-year-old analyst at jpmorgan had relatives in berks county. in their first television interview, danielle julia and alexa brodie spoke to matt lauer from their home in scarsdale. >> it was so random. it was so tragic and horrible. and a lot of times people just want to find a reason. people don't want to think oh it could have been me. they want to blame her. they want to say oh well, it was because of this it was because of that. and it's just not true. it was an accident.
>> and you can watch their full interview tomorrow morning on the "today" show, beginning at 7:00 a.m. some amusement park visitors got a little more thrill than they wanted. the rescue from a stuck coaster is next. and rescuers in south jersey jump into action when a dog gets in a little bit over its head. the kick action that was caught on video also ahead.
right now nbc 10 is following more breaking news out of south jersey tonight. nbc 10 has learned that a tractor-trailer has hit a pedestrian. it happened on i-295 at exit 45 in mount holly, burlington county. right now you can see the live traffic camera pictures show what appears to be the scene of the accident and quite a significant backup as well.
police have not released the pedestrian's condition yet. we will continue to follow this story and bring you updates. a boston police officer is improving after being shot in the face. officer john moynihan was in surgery for several hours today to remove a bullet that had been lodged below his ear. moynihan was in critical condition after he was shot by a suspect friday night. he is now in -- he is now stable. and doctors say he should end up making a full recovery. the suspect who fired at moynihan was shot and killed by officers there at the scene. talk about a very unwelcome thrill. the cyclone roller coaster at coney island's amusement park got stuck on the first day of the season. the 88-year-old wooden coaster got stuck near the top, leaving passengers stranded up there. they had to make their way down to the bottom by foot while employees assisted those who were afraid of heights. no one ended up being hurt. the ride was up and running again, believe it or not, just a short time later.
it was an exciting debut at the san diego zoo. this weekend the zoo introduced the world to its newest additions, little jaguar cub crawling out there. his mother nadiri gave birth on march 12th. the sex of the cub not known just yet. but it is ndiri's third cub. the world's only surviving panda triplets are growing up in the public eye. the 8-month-old cubs are said to be doing well in the southeastern china wildlife park. officials say they have now switched to solid foods after living on a mixture of panda breast milk and artificial milk. the triplets were born last july and they now have an average weight of 178 pounds. well talk about a rough day this morning. this morning firefighters and ems workers came to the rescue of dog that got stuck in burlington county creek after
escaping from its owner. this video is of crews saving that pet from a creek in pemberton. officials say the animal's leash got caught on a fallen tree in the creek. the good news is that dog is expected to be okay. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well sunny day today with cool temperatures. but tomorrow we're actually going to be warmer in the afternoon. now before the warm air gets here we'll have some showers around for the morning hours. i don't think everyone will see the showers. but we will have some trying to move through. then the afternoon hours, that's when we get about 10 degrees warmer than today. 60 degree temperatures ahead before the week is over. so some days actually we could be closer to 70 degrees. clear picture of center city outside right now. but the clouds are increasing. mostly cloudy skies. 37 degrees is the temperature currently. but we will keep dropping overnight tonight. the near freezing north and west. upper 30 news. in the 20s there tomorrow
morning. south jersey some spots already in the 20s, like millville coming in at 28 degrees. 31 in dover. 37 degrees right now in stone harbor. but by tomorrow afternoon we should be topping out in about the mid- to upper 50s. so warmer than today. there you see the clouds around locally. but no rain just yet. just off to our west we have some rain showers, and even some snowshowers, believe it or not. not everybody is going to see the snowshowers tomorrow morning. but there you see a mix of rain and snow with the colder air staying up to our north. but by early tomorrow morning, some north and west could see some brief snowshowers passing through. it shouldn't amount to much though. 37 philadelphia. and there you see a lot of the 30s up around the northeast. but we do have the warmer air. it will be on the way tomorrow afternoon. it will be coming in from the south. and then it will come back more as we end out the week. future weather here tonight shows the clouds increasing. a few passing showers. and early tomorrow morning, 9:00 a.m., we could have some showers around. rain possibly through the
philadelphia area and south jersey. north and west i wouldn't be surprised if we had a few snowshowers too. warmer temperatures by tomorrow afternoon when the clouds start to break more. but then we go on to tuesday and we'll be tracking another round of showers. tuesday morning, areas along the poconos and lehigh valley could be looking at some wet snowfall here. especially by midday. then we see temperatures warming up through the day, and then the heavy rain comes into the forecast tuesday afternoon for the evening commute. so remember that as you're heading out on tuesday. definitely want your umbrella that day. tonight, though increasing clouds. chance of a shower overnight. temperatures dropping to near freezing in philadelphia. early shower chance tomorrow morning. but then by the afternoon, we'll be topping out in the mid- to upper 50s. going into tuesday, we're looking at a chance for some rain and snow again that is going to be the forecast. but then we warm to near 70 thursday and friday. but that comes with a chance of rain. so far easter sunday is looking pretty good. danny? >> thanks. coming up what will the phillies rotation look like behind cole hamels?

danny pommells with you once again. if you haven't already, it's time to get your tickets. the phillies season opener is a week from today. today it was announced that cole hamels will take the fission game. hamels coming off the best season of his career era wise, but won just nine games. the phillies said eric harang will the second man up in the rotation. how will the rest shake out? here is jim salisbury from clearwater. >> the phillies have the luxury of just going with four starters for the first week of the season. cole hamels lines up to start games one and five with aaron harang david buchanan, jerome williams in the middle. they will not need a fifth starter until april 12th that could be a guy like shawn o'sullivan. the phillies firmly believe they
may only have to plug that fifth spot twice, because chad billingsley is coming along nicely in minor league camp. ehe could be ready to join the rotation in the third week of april. >> manager ryne sandberg says ben revere will start in left and herera will man center field. he has had some adventures throughout so far this spring. we'll wait and see on that. let's go to the hard wood. the men's final four is set. duke will take on michigan state in one semifinal. and wisconsin will try to end kentucky's undefeated seasons in the other. meanwhile, on the women's side, philadelphia's own dawn staley today led south carolina to the final four. staley a hall of famer played at dobbins tech and coached at temple. first final four berth in south carolina history. they'll face notre dame next week in tampa. >> i'm mean it's unreal. it's unreal. you know, this signifies a lot of things. one, basketball just being really, really great to me.

we have another update for you on breaking news out of bucks county. police say a falls township officer was doing a traffic stop on route 1 near route 13 in falls township when he was hit by another car. his injuries do not appear to be life threatening. four other people were also taken to the hospital. and we have more breaking news out of south jersey. police say a person is dead after a crash on i-295 at exit 45 in mount holly, burlington county. this is a live look at a traffic camera there. originally police told us this was involving a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian. they now say it involved a tractor-trailer and a car. drivers should obviously expect delays. we'll have more on both these stories on nbc 10 news today starting at 4:00 a.m. that is nbc 10 news for now.
