it's in the low 30s. steady wind at 16 miles an hour at philadelphia international and you can see everybody's dealing with some wind right now. reading it's a 20-mile-an-hour wind. wind chill got a bit colder. 31 degrees is what it feels like in philadelphia. 29 for wilmington and trenton. we will however, see sunshine. clouds moving out. the temperatures slowly moving up. 7:00, 37 degrees. 44 at 10:00 and by early afternoon we will be up to 50 degrees and still climbing but the sunshine will be battling that northwesterly wind. not going to be warming up much more this afternoon. we'll go through it neighborhood by neighborhood. the forecast when i come back in ten minutes. right now jessica boyington with your morning traffic. good morning, jesse. >> good morning, everybody. happy friday. not dealing with a whole lot of problems on our majors. just road work. vine street expressway around 24th street you can see one lane getting through if you're headed eastbound. a touch slow. still only 2 minutes. not a lot of backup headed

eastbound on the schuylkill. westbound moving along fine as well. we are losing the right hand shoulder due to the road work. rest of the drive time no problems. headed on 95 the schuylkill or the blue route. if you are headed into philadelphia on the ben franklin bridge, down to three lanes as opposed to the usual four headed westbound into philadelphia. following breaking news. someone shot a delivery driver overnight in philadelphia's crescentville neighborhood. "nbc 10's" matt delucia is live on the scene as police continue to work the area and figure it out. >> reporter: they're looking for the shooter, the motive and evidence. behind the fence is the victim's car. he crashed it into a utility pole while trying to get away. the 49-year-old man was making a delivery of chinese food to the 500 block of hill creek park at around 10:30 last night and either while he was still in the car or just getting out a dozen gunshots come in his direction and at least one hits him in the

shoulder. that's when he tried to speed away. he crossed adams avenue here went up an embankment and crashed into that utility pole. police and paramedics found that man unconscious inside his car. he was pronounced dead inside einstein medical center. at this hour investigators believe this may have been a robbery but they aren't quite certain just yet. >> we found 12 spent shell casings and some broken glass from the victim's driver door window. >> there was also a lot of blood in that car and even chinese food still in bags. presumably the food this man was trying to deliver late last night. you see police are holding the scene. as of right now that gunman is still on the loose. live in crescentville, i'm matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." breaking overnight, a police officer shot a suspect also shot and wounded and a second suspect under arrest. this all went down late last night in west philadelphia.

"nbc 10's" katy zachry is live for us outside presbyterian hospital in university city. bring us up to speed starting with the officer's condition this morning. >> reporter: chris, officer daniel kostick, we're told he is in good spirits. he's here recovering at penn presbyterian hospital. he was brought here around 11:00 after he was shot in the right arm by a fleeing suspect. earlier in the night officer kostick and his partners were on bike patrol when they approached a van investigating somebody inside for drug activity. the van took off but officer kostick found the man in question in the area. the suspect at that time told him, quote, i don't want to have to do this then shot officer kostick. officer kostick returned fire hitting the suspect who is in police custody at hahnemann hospital. >> obviously we do not know what was on this man's mind. to have someone say that is highly unusual and to fire makes

overnight. a accept at that bus on fire in south philadelphia. one of our colleagues at "comcast sportsnet" shot this void yes at the wells fargo center. the driver made it off the bus without any injuries. a woman accused of abandoning her disabled son in the woods officially faces a murder charge. a philadelphia judge arranged nyia parler on charges earlier this morning. she left her paraplegic son alone in a park for five days. new information on the philadelphia iron workers case. yesterday a federal judge sentenced edward sweeney to eight years in prison for vandalizing construction sites. sweeney is the 9th of 12 workers to be convicted. also this morning former philadelphia mob boss joey merlino is a freeman again.

officials released him yesterday from a prison in florida where he had been held since january. prosecutors said that merlino violated the terms of his parole by secretly meeting with other mobsters. a judge agreed but an appeals judge reversed that and ordered him released immediately. philadelphia officers are looking for people who are attacking people walking their dogs. investigators say the officer fired shots at the suspect who ran away from the scene. the attempted robbery happened about a block from where james stoolman was shot to death. authorities charged three teenagers in connection with that killing. neighbors we spoke with are still thinking about it. >> you wouldn't have to carry a gun to walk your dog in the evening time but i guess it's city living. >> dog walkers seem to be easy prey. i don't know why. >> a make shift memorial to

james stuhlman remains in the neighborhood. 65joe derosa lived on federal street. he was in his late 60s. a small fire broke out in a bedroom of his home yesterday afternoon. crews found derosa in that bedroom. firefighters at this point don't know why he couldn't escape. >> there were working smoke alarms in the home. we believe that they activated. the occupant was unable to get outside. it is a tragedy. >> now firefighters contained the fire to that bedroom which kept it from spreading to other homes. a federal task force will meet for the first time to discuss the problems faced following hurricane sandy. the task force will discuss rising flood insurance rates they'll talk about fema's role in helping flood victims recover following the disaster.

cory booker and robert menendez will lead the task force along with senators and hurricane victims from new york. now your "nbc 10" first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> it's the end of april and temperatures are feeling cold. temperatures dropped into the 30s holding at 40 degrees in center city. doylestown, 35 degrees. 38 in millville. clouds overhead that may produce a few snow showers northwest of the pocono mountains. could see some flurries in the mountains. that's the view from the blue mountains. plenty of cold. there are the snow showers moving from scranton to pennsylvania. these are the same systems yesterday. won't see them in philadelphia but we will start with clouds. the clouds won't last. they'll be moving out for today, 40s. pocono mountains, 44 degrees from mount pocono. up to 54 for reading.

doing totally final. 295 no problems. no problems on the jersey turnpike. ongoing construction on 295 and 42. not seeing any delays there. 42 is clear as well as you head out the door for mass transit, no problems there as well. no delay for septa, new jersey transit or patco expressway. police need your help. they want you to remember this man's face. we'll tell you what he is accused of doing moments before hopping on a septa train. plus a frightening fall for a group of high schoolers in indiana. a stage collapsed sending more than a dozen students to the hospital and some of the injuries are serious.

5:13. we're following two breaking stories this morning. the first, police are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a food delivery man in philadelphia's crescentville neighborhood. they shot and killed the man as he was sitting in his car or just getting out. police don't know if robbery was the motive there. also breaking police arrested a second suspect wanted for shooting a police officer in west philadelphia. that officer was responding to a drug investigation when he confront the the suspect at 51st and master's street last night. one of them shot at the officer several times. only one shot hit the officer in the arm. police say he will be okay. we're working to find out about one suspect who was also wounded.

this is new video this morning of a stage collapse at a school in indiana that injured more than a dozen students. the stage as you saw suddenly gave way while the students were giving a musical performance. all of the injured students are being treated at hospitals. at least one is in critical condition. protesters in baltimore are promising to make their voices heard even more loudly. in the aftermath of a deadly police arrest. >> hands up. >> don't shoot. >> hands up. >> don't shoot. >> demonstrators gathered again last night calling for justice in the case of freddy gray. he died sunday after suffering a spinal injury while in police custody. officers involved in his arrest are suspended with pay. protesters are planning a city wide rally this weekend. police want you to take a good look at this man on a septa train. he is's want the for a burglary in delaware county where he came face to face with the owner. investigators say he broke into a home in radner last friday. when the homeowner walked in

police say the thief confronted her and took off with a suitcase of jewelry, electronics and cash. he jumped on the route 100 train and got off the park view station just before the 69th terminal. >> typically those people that get off there live in the area or know the area. it's not a business oriented neighborhood so we assume that somebody in that neighborhood possibly knows the man. >> radner police are offering a $2500 reward for information that leads to an arrest. 5:15. a philadelphia police officer has resigned amid criminal charges and two others are off the job for separate criminal cases. officer robert walton resigned wednesday after being charged with cruelty to animals. christopher hulmes is accused of lying about narcotics arrests and jackson stole a witness's cell phone. jackson and hulmes are suspended with the intent to dismiss.

the officer who was cleared of charges after he arrested an assembly man has won in court. the court ruled that the department had the right to suspend officer bonaventura but not without pay. now he was acquitted of charges that he made a bogus drunk driving arrest when he stopped paul moriarity in 2012. a community man came together after a man was badly beaten at an olney gas station. there was a vigil for robert barnes. family members say doctors don't think he will ever wake up and will remain in a permanent vegetative state. they caught the april 7th attack. police say they have arrested three people in connection with this beating. barnes' sister told "nbc 10" that she hopes those responsible will pay for what they did. >> now i won't ever have the opportunity to look him in his

eyes and tell him i love him because these people decided the right thing to do was to beat my brother. >> police indicate there could still be more arrests in the case. happening today, with decision 2016 pennsylvania senator bob casey is expected to endorse fellow democrat hillary clinton. he's going to send an e-mail backing clinton. that will taut her dedication to fighting for the middle class. casey backed barack obama during the 2008 white house race. on the republican side three senators have announced that they will run for the republican nomination for president, ted cruz rand paul and marco rubio. in the kathleen kane investigation a judge postponed a hearing on whether pennsylvania's attorney general should be held in contempt of court. the hearing was scheduled for monday montgomery county court. yesterday kane's lawyers challenged the basis for the hearing claiming kane was biased. she's accused of leaking secret

grand jury information, she fired a prosecutor after the judge ordered a ban on retaliating against potential witnesses. it's about 18 minutes after 5:00. we were watching some construction earlier on the roads. hopefully that's moved out of the way. we're also checking on any other problems that may pop up on your friday morning drive. >> right. jessica boyington is watching all of that and getting information from a lot of different sources to make sure that you're updated for your ride to work. jessica, what are you seeing? >> not seeing a whole lot of incidents all over the place. we are seeing a lot of road work. just some slight volumes. things starting to pick up as we head out on the 95 approaching cottman avenue. drive times great. southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway still only 13 minutes there. as we head off to our area bridges, if you are heading into philadelphia this morning, you may start to see some backup. we're down to three lanes due to ongoing construction west bound into philadelphia. currently no problems out on the betsy or the walt whitman bridge. we take a look at the blue

route, drive times everything moving along fine and nice and green. 15 minutes northbound from 95 into the schuylkill expressway. no problems going southbound from the schuylkill to the 95. 15 minutes there. all good news from my side. now your "nbc 10" first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> a cold start this morning and the wind is blowing to make it feel even colder. this is a view from center city. we're seeing winds gusting more than 25 miles an hour. in fact 26-mile-an-hour wind gusts right now at philadelphia international. the temperature at the airport has been holding at 40 degrees but most of the area is running colder than that. in the mountains, it is in the 20s to start with and it's going to be a chilly day only warming into the 40s. like yesterday, we're seeing some clouds move through the area but these are going to keep on going. we'll get sunshine today. we'll see sunshine this weekend, too, but there is a chance that parts of the area will see wet weather, rain in texas this morning. could be moving into portions of

delaware and south jersey later in the day saturday and into saturday night. see the heavier downpours south of austin. we will see the clouds building saturday afternoon. this is 4:00 saturday afternoon. 60 degrees, nice warmup compared to today in philadelphia but look at the rain starting to move into delaware and northeastern maryland at that hour. showers possible during the evening hours. saturday 8:00. see some light rainfall into the wilmington area chester county. by 10:00, scattered showers but they start to thin out as you go into the overnight hours. today you'll see the clouds clear out. dry today. still a chilly one. like yesterday, stuck in the 50s. like yesterday we'll have the northwesterly winds anywhere from 10 to 18 miles an hour with higher gusts. the winds will die down tonight and tomorrow a nice warmup into the low 60s saturday afternoon with clouds coming in during the evening hours and showers are possible to the south but by sunday we're looking at sunshine and a little bit milder up to

coming soon to a wrist near you, apple launches its new watch. the device is currently back ordered though through about june. prices start around $350. reports say a proposed merger involving comcast may be called off and the reports say it could happen as soon as today. so what's next? landon dowdy is here with the cnbc business news. good morning, landon. >> hey tracy. good morning. sources tell cnbc comcast could drop its merger with time warner cable today. the $40 billion deal to combine the top two cable companies came up against stiff opposition.

ahead. good morning and welcome to "nbc 10" today. >> i'm chris cato. let's find out about the chilly temps. bill, some people might have had frost overnight, right? >> it is a cold start this morning for sure chris. 38 degrees at "nbc 10." the wind making it feel colder. skies are going to clear. there are some clouds overhead. nothing falling from those clouds. we'll stay dry today but it's going to stay chilly as well. the winds now at 16 miles an hour in philadelphia. 38 degrees right now in trenton. wilmington is 37. 30s for much of the area including roxboro while philadelphia and south philadelphia close to 40 degrees. yes, it will be a blustery day. 37 by 10:00. 50 degrees and still climbing though. a slow climb at 1:00 this afternoon. we'll go through it hour by hour at future weather when i'm back at 10:00. right now check in with "nbc 10" first alert traffic reporter jess
