chilly but things have shaped up to be beautiful. let's check in with meteorologist bill henley in the first alert weather center hey, bill. >> good morning, rosemary. it is going to be a warmer day. warmer start this morning. 10 to 20 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. clear skies over center city looking at the delaware. clouds thinning out. 64 degrees in philadelphia. coatsville is 61. it is dropping into the 50s for millville and trenton. 64 northeast philadelphia at the airport. roxboro will stay warm. 10:00 this morning, 75 degrees and at that hour the winds will be out of the southwest at 10 miles an hour. they go stronger. that will need to a nice warmup. 83 degrees. yesterday's high was 82. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i come back in 10 minutes. right now let's find out if there is any traffic on this holiday. jessica boyington in the first
alert traffic center. jessica? >> bill we are quiet as expected so far this morning. out in new jersey first on 295 right around mount laurel and route 38. the southbound lanes in here not really much going on. it's okay because our drive times are in the clear. 13 minutes headed southbound from 38 up towards the black horse pike. as well no problems northbound. rest of our drive times and look at our majors that tend to jam up in the morning hours, good so far on 95 southbound into the center city area. 13 minutes. same drive time on the schuylkill if you're headed into center city. currently no problems on the blue route. more drive times and more cameras coming up. new from overnight, gun violence has police in philadelphia and camden investigating a total of four shootings. >> two of those shootings were deadly. in ñ9í$philadelphia's mantua neighborhood a man died after being shot in the head. police found the victim near a basketball court at city park and aspen streets. they are still searching for the
shooter. about 20 minutes earlier somebody shot a man several times in the nights town section. 17 and luzern. medics rushed the man to the hospital and no arrests in this case either. philadelphia police are looking for whoever shot a man in a leg inside an apartment in the parkwood neighborhood. police say the man should be okay. no word on a motive in that shooting. the fourth one happened in camden. someone shot a man in the upper body at sheridan and norwood street. no word on the condition or the motive. today we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. a presidential proclamation designates 11:00 a.m. as a time of unified prayer and 3:00 as a national moment of remembrance. citizens are also asked to fly their flags at home at half staff. president obama will place a
wreath at the tom of the unknown a little later on today at arlington national cemetery. the department of defense will host an observance at arlington's memorial amphitheater. since the civil war more than 1 million american members have lost their lives in war and many others have died in the line of duty. in our area today, many people will be lining up along different parade routes paying tribute to the men and women who have fought for our country. "nbc 10's" katy zachry is lifeve where the largest parade gets going in a few hours. katy? >> reporter: this parade dates back to 1946. right now we are along orthodox street one of the main routes of the parade. this parade attracts thousands of people every year including many families. >> we come out and watch it with my grandkids. >> you'll find families like carmen dorso's lining the
streets watching bands, string bands perform in the largest memorial day parade. people tell me it's the perfect way to celebrate the holiday, by paying tribute to our veterans and celebrating this community. >> it is about fun. it brings the community together, too. it's the old parade going. >> that father has three kids marching in this year's parade. organizers did things differently this year than last year. they had a fundraising committee that worked throughout the months to raise money and recently they had a run around the area to fund raise for the parade that's happening. katy zachry "nbc 10 news." in philadelphia today mayor michael nutter will mark memorial day at the korean war memorial. this memorial honors 600 members
who died during the store. raffle galatti will be the keynote speaker at the philadelphia vietnam veterans memorial in penns landing. as always the jersey shore is packed with beach goers and boardwalkers on this memorial day holiday. "nbc 10's" matt delooush shaucia is live. you found some people who left before the real crowds showed up. why is that? >> reporter: well chris, when you're at the beach you're going to pay a small premium at least for most things out here. things are going to be more expensive. some of the folks, the activity at least at this points is on the beach trying to figure in all the holes and everything that people left from the wage end on the beach. not a whole lot of people out
here. they enjoyed fairly good weather but now with the prices going up it's time to leave and come back later. a lot of people on the boardwalk and beach at the jersey shore. this is after all, the unofficial start to the season. they're selling shirts and other knickknacks. you can feel it. summer is back. this time of year it's really good news for everyone. >> we have good weather so we'll be back again in september for the air show for that week. >> come at the beginning and the end? >> yes, we do. >> reporter: back out here live along the ocean city boardwalk and along the beaches out here. starting to get a little bit of light out here as we get to dawn and we're waiting for that sun to start rising. more people are starting to come out here. i've always seen a couple of runners. in fact there was one person starting to run up here now.
this is the time to get out on the boardwalk. there's not a whole lot of people out here. all of the businesses are closed and of course they're getting ready for one more day out here of this unofficial start to the summer season. coming up at 5:30 there's one thing that's out here that people can't control. they try to control as much as possible. they want to feel like they can bring people down here with whatever they can. they have the saltwater taffy, the fudge, there's one thing they can't control. i'm matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." we have new information this morning about a security scare near the capitol building in washington. police arrested a man after they say he left his car unattended with a pressure cooker in it. officers smelled device and they called in the bomb squad. they destroyed the pressure cooker. it was placed away from a memorial day concert at the
capitol. nobody was hurt. a virginia man is facing charges. now your "nbc 10" first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 8 minutes after 5:00. warmer start today and we do have some clouds but no sign of any rain for our area. the clouds are already starting to break up. this is the view looking from center city. "nbc 10" studios. 59 degrees in allentown. 60s in northeast philadelphia. 64 and 60 degrees right now in atlantic city. you see the clouds in the distance. this is the view from the marquis de lafayette hotel. no sign of any wet weather. not for today or tomorrow but there are showers later in the week. look at the warmup. 24 hour temperature change. up by 11 degrees. completely dry for our area. we will see the clouds thin out. sunshine will be bright. it will be a couple days before we will see activity.
it will be coming in later on in the week. 75 for mount pocono. reading and allentown will top out at 87 degrees. breezy day. the winds will really be picking up for norris town, trenton, mount holly. you'll see them at the shore and dl will he wear beaches up to 78. 71 the high temperature for atlantic city. inland 80s for vineland and dover. same story for drexel hill and swedesboro. warmer than yesterday. lots of sunshine today. spending some time at the shore? the wind will be kicking in as the day goes on. warmer day overall. 67 degrees by 10:00. by lunchtime, 72. 5:00, still pretty nice, 71 degrees. seven day forecast with the timing of those storms when i'm back in ten minutes. we have a quick heads up for drivers in camden county. the haddon avenue bridge in berlin is closed in both
directions for emergency repairs because of a sinkhole. right now it's unclear exactly how long the repairs will take to complete. keep that in mind when you head out. >> for a look at what other problems may be popping up. >> i checked on the ben, the walt, the betsy, no problems there. the schuylkill expressway around spring garden street, you can see no volume headed westbound or eastbound. free and in the clear there. delaware on 95 you can see green there. all good news. 295 to 495 10 minutes and a check on mass transit no problems or delays for amtrak new jersey transit or septa. back to you. record rain in texas and oklahoma takes a deadly toll. a veteran firefighter trying to save others is one of the three people who lost their lives in the flooding.
oklahoma. jason farley died while helping neighbors evacuate. fast-moving water swept farley into a storm drain and he drowned. >> we hope that everybody knows that our first priority is for the community. >> farley was one of two people killed in the flooding in oklahoma over the weekend. on saturday a woman in tulsa died after her car hydroplaned. in central texas one person died in record-setting rainfall over the past few days. eight people including two children are still missing. about 400 homes were just washed away in hayes county swept off of their pavement. one river rose 30 feet in just three hours. a cleveland judge will hold arraignments today. a rarity on a holiday. for protesters arrested after the acquittal of patrolman michael brelo. he was charged in the shooting
death of an unarmed black couple in november. the acquittal sparked protests which resulted in 71 arrests often saturday. the court is usually closed on memorial day. it's still unclear how many people will be arraigned this morning. 5:15. hollywood is mourning the loss of actress and comedian anne anne meara. she and her husband died on saturday. they made up stiller and meara in the 1960s. her career went on to include dozens of rolls. meara is survived by her husband, her son actor ben stiller, her daughter and several grandchildren. over the weekend the nobel prize winner who inspired the academy award winning movie "a beautiful mind" died in a car crash. princeton professor josh nash and his wife were killed on saturday on the new jersey turnpike. they were in a couple in a taxi
coming back from the airport in newark when the driver lost control. the cab hit a guardrail and slammed into another car. nash struggled with schizophrenia spent much of his time at princeton. he won the nobel prize in 1994. flowers and tributes were laid and played. colleagues wished they had gotten to know him. >> extremely shocked. i always wanted to have at least have lunch with him once. i feel like i missed an opportunity. i should have talked to him more. >> princeton university says that the school is in the process of putting together a formal tribute to john nash. it should be announced in the next few days. police in camden county are investigating a possible abduction. they tell us they found the victim but they're still trying to find out exactly what happened. yesterday officers got a call about a man being forced into the trunk of a car. the victim was found several
hours later but police haven't said where or if the man was harmed. investigators did release this surveillance video of a silver acura believed to be involved. it has new jersey plate r86-xkzx. they're asking anyone who recognizes the call to call police in camden. the police are looking for the person who drove over a victim. one driver started following another until they reached i-95 in newark. the driver got off the highway and stopped to confront each other and that's when investigators say one ran over the other. police say the suspect was driving a dark colored dodge dart with a maryland license plate. montgomery county emergency workers are crediting a carbon monoxide detector for saving 14
people in norris town. a neighboring house had a detector that alerted residents to the danger. investigators say a gas powered generator in one of the homes caused the leak. 5:18. 64 degrees. rutgers football coach is waiting for information before taking action. darian daley robbed a person in sarasota. he's been home since final exams. they're scheduled to return to campus tomorrow. at 5:18 on this memorial day, some folks may be getting up in the next few hours to head out, get their memorial day plans going. >> some people do have to being to work. i don't know who that would be but there are people out there that have to go to the office. let's find out if there are any traffic problems to greet them on this holiday. that's going to be coming down today. the clouds in the pocono mountains, they will be thinning out. sprinkles farther to the north of the french manor, they are dry. clouds 2340 iesh clouds will be pushed out of here and lead to warmup. it will be dry. lots of sunshine. 7:00 in the evening. we will be in the clear. nice and warm and showers in northwestern pennsylvania, but those will be inching closer in the next several days. future of clouds and rain shows tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 central pennsylvania will be in for rain. muggier day for us tomorrow. come wednesday afternoon that's when we could see some showers and some thunderstorms develop especially farther north and west of the city for allentown, reading, into the pocono mountains. the clouds will be thinning out. temperatures warming up into the 80s this afternoon. will be breezy.
