few a.m. showers but mild conditions expected for us. i am tracking a warming trend as we head into the weekend. i'll let you know what to expect in my full forecast coming up in 10 minutes. now let's check in with first alert traffic reporter katy zachry. good morning. >> good morning, brittney. it is a parking lot on 95 southbound between allegheny and girard. a lot of brake lights. that's because an accident happened not too long ago so the right-hand lane is blocked. it's really affecting things. drive times, about 21 minutes. don't want to make it 25 before it is. 21 if you're heading south between woodhaven and the vine. that's your situation on 95. we talked about that. 76 is looking pretty good eastbound between the blue route and the vine as you're headed into center city philadelphia. 13 minutes. the blue route is looking good as well headed southbound between 76 and 95. it will take you 14 15 minutes. for new jersey transit passengers, if you're on the northeast corridor and if you're
on the train between trenton and new york expect it to be running up to 30 minutes late. that's the latest from new jersey transit. tracy. at 6:02 following this breaking news. off duty police officer was picking up dinner when he stopped a robbery killing one of the suspects. "nbc 10's" monique braxton is live at the city's lawndale section. you talked to someone who lives in the neighborhood. tell us more. >> reporter: he lives above the store, tracy. he says he -- perspective about the police activity at the pizza shop here. take a look over my shoulder. this is what residents of lawndale are waking up to. tyson and rising sun is blocked off. crime scene is still inside this store 7 hours after the gun battle broke out. now let's look at our video moments after the shootout. our camera captured this exclusive video of the uninjured off duty detective from northwest walking with police.
here's what investigators say. two men, at least one of them armed, enter as the off duty officer was waiting for his order. the robbers snatched $20 from the detective, then ordered him to get on the floor. he did so but the officer is cool until he sees the robber head towards the pizza shop workers and the cash register. the detective identifies himself, pulls out his weapon a gun battle follows. this morning the man who lives above the store is shocked that this took place. >> reporter: are you surprised? the officer was in plain clothes? >> they're always in plain clothes there. they eat their constantly. it's not like a place that nobody knows police don't go. you'd have to be totally goofy to go in and rob a place like that. there's always cops around unmarked marked bicycles motorcycles, they're always in there. >> he took action that it was very brave. very heroic and he's very very fortunate that he's alive.
>> reporter: one suspect collapsed and died here in the parking lot. the gunman's loaded revolver was dropped inside the pizza shop. police hope surveillance videotape will lead them to the second suspect. now in the next half hour we're working to bring you a description of that suspect because both men walked inside announcing the robbery holding hoods over their faces. live for now in lawndale monique braxton, "nbc 10 news." 6:04. breaking news out of chester as well. "nbc 10" has confirmed police got into a shootout with someone at the scene where three fires were set over several days this week. here's what we just learned. police are guarding the scene because of all the fires there. videos from tuesday night's fire. well, they were guarding the scene. they saw someone run into an abandoned home. police say that person shot at them. officers shot back. the suspect got away. investigators did find the suspect's gun at the scene.
we'll continue to follow this and bring you new information as we get it. this morning three men suspected in the abduction of a woman on jeweler's row are in jail. they captured khayree gay back in april. the three suspects captured the woman from a chestnut street parking garage threw her in a van and tried to get workplace security codes. she was tasered robbed and released. >> the victim suffered but survived a brutal horrific assault. these arrests hopefully will bring some measure of relief to the victim to the business that these three men allegedly targeted, to the business community and jewelers row in center city and to the public at large. >> as for the victim she's recovering at home from a concussion and broken ribs. the two suspects arrested last night will make their first court appearance later today. this morning we have new tee
tails on a murder suspect who's part of a manhunt. carol bown was stabbed to death in her driveway. police say her ex-boyfriend michael itel did it. the owner of the salon where bown worked said itel busted out her windows. >> she was worried. she feared that he was going to do something. >> and we dug up this new jersey criminal background on itel. a 2006 kidnapping crime that we are told involved an earlier girlfriend. investigators are looking for the public's help in tracking him down. remembering beau biden. he lied in honor at the statehouse in dover yesterday. beau's father the vice president of the united states joe biden, and his family stood tearfully as mourners offered comfort at a memorial service.
beau biden died saturday of brain cancer at the age of 46. >> i've never met him but i felt heart broken. >> i felt like they are a well-respected family and i'm honored to be here. >> had he been able to run for governor, i'm sure he would have been governor of delaware. he was an amazing person. >> through the service he was awarded posthumously the distinguished service medal and distinguished service cross. he was an iraq war hero and served in the delaware national guard for nearly 12 years. today there will be two public viewings at saint anthony's in wilmington from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon and the other from 6:00 to 9:00 in the evening. the funeral mass is tomorrow morning at 10:30 and president obama will deliver the eulogy. for more information on street close showers there and watch the biden services live you can download our free "nbc 10 news" app. it's 6:07. happening now.

do you have an update katy? >> yeah i've been watching the drive time unfortunately creep up by the minute. you're nearing half an hour that it will take you to go from wood haven to the vibe. this is an absolute parking lot that occurred about 1/2 hour and 45 minutes ago between allegheny and girard. the right-hand lane is block the. people are using their brake lights sitting on the highway now. this is what your speeds will be reduced to as you approach at 9 miles an hour and 12 miles as you go through it, before you get out of it and can proceed south to center city philadelphia or the airport. some people going to the airport this morning. finally, the 42 freeway looking really good right now. tracy tracy. police salo call targets have sbn targeted. and caught on camera. a tornado touches down in one town. i'll have a report on the damage left behind.
just about 6:15. if you're following breaking news, a shootout in a pizza place involving an off duty police officer. one suspect died. the second is on the run this morning. the officer was not hurt. monique braxton spoke with witnesses. she'll be live with an update at 6:30. two camden men are wanted for lighting an suv on fire. it happened near hyland and garden avenues. police believe the same guys set two other cars on fire a few hours later in pennsauken. anyone with information if you recognize these two men, yo you are' asked to contact police. police are looking for this man. they say he attacked another man with a garden hoe in north
philadelphia. the two were arguing inside the southern inn tavern tuesday afternoon. when the fight continued outside, the suspect hit the other man and took off. the victim is listed in critical condition. 6:15 and 55 degrees outside. two philadelphia teens are behind bars this morning. police arrested the duo in connection with a string of robberies targeting temple students. police say the 16 and 17-year-olds are responsible for at least five holdups within the past three weeks. investigators think they may be connected to even more robberies. police still have not decided whether to charge the teens as adults. happening today victim's families will join together with philadelphia officials to mark the second anniversary of the market street attacks. it was june 5th that a building collapsed on to the salvation army store next door. 6 people died and 13 others hope. the demolition contract or and equipment operator are set for trial charged with third degree
murder. michael nutter and the victims' families will attend a memorial. these are drawings of the park. we talked to the architect about the design. >> saw through the maine northerly thinking of every aspect of it from the way that the families are commemorated to how the public can perceive it at night and during the day. >> earlier the project got approval from the city art commission. the next step is putting together permit drawings which they hope to submit to the city about the the end of the summer. damage left behind from two tornadoes. one of the tornadoes touched down last night. at least three homes were destroyed in this tornado, another dozen were damaged. there are no reports of any injuries. also in colorado, there's growing concern about a serial sniper near denver after several shootings since april. the latest victim was gunned down wednesday on a residential
street. two weeks ago a man was shot dead while riding his bike and in april this woman was shot in the neck while driving. investigators say all of the attacks happened within miles of each other. they're looking into reports of car windows being blown out in the area. a friend of boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev will be sentenced today. he was convicted last year of conspiracy and obstruction of justice. that was for removing tsarnaev's backpack and 4r57 top computer. they have recommended a four-year sentence. we know the problem on 95 for sure. >> katy zachry has dezblals fortunately new information. that accident is clearing or in the last few seconds has cleared. of course it's going to take time for all of that backed up traffic to get back to normal speed. we are seeing it make some head way here. breaking up the parking lot we saw a few minutes ago, it's not

scene. police are searching for a person of interest. fill in the details. >> reporter: that's right, vai. rising avenue and tyson avenue have opened and much of the police tape is down the activity at the pizza shop has increased. several homicide detectives on the scene. they're examining something in the doorway of the pizza shop. the man who lives upstairs couldn't believe armed robbers hit the pizza shop knowing officers are always stopping by. we just talked to him. here's some video for you. moments after the shootout we captured this exclusive video of the uninjured off duty northwest detective walking with police. investigators say two men, at least one of them armed, enter as this off duty officer was waiting for his order. the robbers snatched $20 from the detective, then ordered him to get on the floor. he did, but when he sees the robbers head toward the cash register the detective identifies himself and pulls out his glock.

download our "nbc 10 news" app. today a judge will hear motions in the case of naiea parlor. she is accused of abandoning her disabled son in a philadelphia park. the victim a 21-year-old quadriplegic was in the park for four days. he had only a blanket and bible. medics treated him for exposure dehydration and malnutrition. his mother is charged with attempted murder. louise bishop is one of several philadelphia lawmakers accused of accepting money in exchange for political favors. state representative ron waters pleaded guilty to conflict of interest charges on monday. he and a former colleague took plea deals to keep them out of prison. two other lawmakers have not entered pleas. philadelphia police tell us they know who they're looking for in the case of a man who left his toddler and a gun inside a car after a chase. they say the suspect drove off

especially in the 6:30 half hour. parking lot as you would expect it. earlier we had an accident that was causing all of this backup. now it's just a lot of the typical volume. 35 minutes it will take you to go southbound on 95 between woodhaven and the vine street expressway. just be prepared to be tapping those brake lights. slow on 95. new jersey on the 42 freeway, typically we see a lot of volume northbound between route 55 and the walt whitman bridge. things are looking good. 5 minutes it will take you to go that stretch. septa and amtrak running close to schedule. fortunately new jersey transit in the northeast corridor between trenton and new york expect delays of up to 30 minutes. vai. >> you want to stick around to see this. this is the stuff of nightmares. one woman gets quite a surprise. she finds a snake slithering out of her toilet. you'll hear how she reacted. you probably know. that's coming up. plus find out where you can get a free donut today. that's ahead on "nbc 10 news."
this story will be developing throughout the day as police look to that second suspect. make sure you download the "nbc 10 news" app right now so you can get an alert as soon as breaking news happens. we'll also have an update this afternoon on "nbc 10 news" at 4:00. philadelphia mayor michael nutter traveled to washington to talk about the need to improve the transportation industry. this comes just weeks after the deadly derailment in port richmond. mayor nutter was joined yesterday by senator tom carper of delaware. they focused on the need for legislation to repair the nation's infrastructure. senator carper had just gotten off amtrak train 188 before it derailed in port richmond killing 8 people and wounding 200. the train was traveling more than 100 miles an hour when it crashed. investigators found the section of track where the train derailed did not have at least two safety features installed. mayor nutter said amtrak needs support from congress to make improvements. >> they need support from congress. amtrak should not be going every
year hat in hand begging for support and apparently sometimes when they do better financially than projected some in congress want to take those dollars away and use them for something else. >> amtrak serves more than 840,000 commuters every weekday. it's 6:45. union employees of the philadelphia inquirer and daily news have voted to prepare to go on strike. contract talks with the local newspaper gild of america are stalled. the sticking point, health care and saving seniority. the philadelphia media network insists that all three outlets will continue publishing. we have a new video of a volcano in indonesia is silent. they were at the highest level of alert. it has erupted on and off for the past year and a half. people in the area evacuated as a precaution. this volcano is located on what's known as the ring of fire. and decision 2016.

57 degrees in stone harbor. visibility is clear throughout most of the region but closer to the shore, atlantic city down to about a mile and a quarter, mile and a half in millville. down to 6 miles in philadelphia. a bit of patchy fog in the city. yesterday temperatures were at 70. today 73. by tomorrow back to the 80s which is exactly average for us. we'll drop a little bit below average heading into sunday. our radar shot shows a little bit of light rainfall in center city. and also in parts of south philly out south of upper darby. then also near edgewater park we're dealing with light, light showers and that is expected to continue over the next couple of hours. but by the afternoon we see more clearing here even a little bit of sunshine. saturday a few passing clouds. sunday we'll see sunny sunshine and beautiful conditions as we push into the weekend. great conditions. start making your plans whether you go to the poconos or the

95 southbound between woodhaven and the vine over a half hour it will take you to go that stretch. that's really because of volume. earlier we had an accident at allegheny avenue. that has since cleared. new jersey transit, if you're on the northeast corridor traveling between trenton and metro park expect delays of up to 90 minutes because of an earlier issue with metro park services. still, expect that significant delay there. vai? >> thank you, katy. following breaking news this morning. "nbc 10's" monique braxton is on the scene where an off duty officer was involved in a deadly shooting. monique? >> reporter: vai, just moments ago we got a closer look at the crime scene. we'll show you that video after the break.
>> reporter: i'm monique braxton live in lawndale outside the rising sun pizza shop. since we've last spoken to you we've gotten a closer look at the crime scene. investigators are examining the bullet holes. you see the surveillance camera video. the robbers knew their criminal activity was being recorded. now moments after the gun battle our camera captured this exclusive video of the uninjured off duty detective from northwest walking with police. investigators say two men, at least one of them armed, entered and grabbed $20 right from the off duty detective's hand and then ordered him to the floor. when he saw the robbers head towards the pizza shop workers, he identified himself and pulled out his glock. this morning that detective is being hailed as a hero. two shots missed him but one suspect collapsed and died in the parking lot. police hope surveillance videotape and a loaded revolver left inside the pizza shop will lead them to the second suspect.
