"nbc 10 news" starts now. >> the vice president's son, beau biden, will be laid to rest today. this morning politicians, dignitaries, family and friends are gathering for his funeral at a church in wilmington where president obama will deliver the eulogy. we'll take threw in a live report. >> a live look over the ben franklin bridge shows some cloudy skies out there right now. you may have to duck a few passing showers but don't worry, we expect to see sunshine later on today. i'm rosemary connors. it's 7:00 on saturday. let's get to your weekend weather with meteorologist

brittney shipp. we're already starting to see some improvements out there over the past hour hour and a half or so. >> that's right. we're still going to have a chance of passing showers as we head into your late morning hours and early afternoon. keep that in mind as you're making your plans. it should not affect the weekend. we're going to see warmer temperatures and sunshine into the afternoon. by tomorrow even more sunshine, temperatures night and comfortable at 78. our current at 66 in philadelphia, 65 and 64 degrees in wildwood. everywhere else nice and dry. we are finally starting to warm things up. our average, 80 degrees, 84 degrees on monday. i'll also track storms moving back in on monday. if you're planning to head done the shore, if you're at the shore already, today's temperatures at 75 degrees with a few passing showers and then

by sunday 70 degrees. i'll have your full forecast coming up. >> former delaware attorney general beau biden will be laid to rest today. the funeral caps three days of public mourning for the vice president's son. it was will be held at st. anthony's padua church. monique, you talked with some people who got up early today and have been waiting in line. >> reporter: that's right. we're just down the street from the security check point. several national dignitaries are expected to attend including president clinton, as well as secretary clinton. this will be the third day of public mourning for former attorney general beau biden. the 46-year-old passed away after a two-year fight with brain cancer.

he was attorney general for two years. he did not seek another term because he told folks he was planning to run for governor in 2016. he served for one yard in iraq working as a military lawyer. the lane began forming here outside the church about an hour ago. people have been sharing their personal stories with us including experiences with the bidens. >> i have always respected vice president biden when he was a senator, ever since i knew him. i respected him. and this past december he called me and wished me a merry christmas because he was at the big fish and my granddaughter was working there and she said to him, "oh, could i please have a picture with you? my grandmother just loves you." and he said i'll do better than

that. you have a cell phone? and he called me. >> now yesterday there were two viewings at st. anthony of padua. members of congress, former staffers among the thousands who stood in line. a very somber day also for beau's high school classmates. inside the church vice president joe biden led his family in greeting mourners. thursday the biden family was also in dover when he was lain in honor at legislative hall. we're also hearing that biden's siblings siblings ashtonley and hunter will speak at the services. >> if you'd like to watch the services download our free "nbc

10 news" app. >> new from overnight, police are investigating the cause of a deadly accident on i-95 in delaware county. a car overturned in the southbound lanes near the pinicum exit. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. >> a man was shot nine times in germantown. they say the victim managed to walk 300 yards to a corner chinese vaunt on germantown avenue, where he collapsed. he then went to einstein medical center for treatment. police are now searching for the shooter. this morning two young girls are in critical condition after they fell from a window in allentown. skyforce 10 was over the scene on turner street last night. the girls who are 3 and 5 years old fell about 40 feet to the street below. they are being treated at le

high hospital cedar crest. >> the search continues for a man accused of stabbing his ex-girl friend to death right jot side her house in camden county. police are looking for michael etel. he's considered armed and dangerous. carol bowne was stabbed to death in her driveway on wednesday. investigators tell us she got a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, had installed security cameras and had even applied for a gun permit. >> it's deeply troubling. you're still going to have to go through the process but every step of the way your particular application will get priority. >> u.s. marshals are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that may lead to michael michael etel's arrest. >> a man convicted as a repeat

robber will do serious job time. yesterday a judge sentenced christopher miller for holding up a shoe store in toms river. he was arrested for robbing the same store he robbed 15 years earlier and police say he held up the same worker both times. >> today a familiarthe atkins family will try and break the guiness world record for the largest cup of lemonade hoping it will attract more donations. >> per rules, we have to make the lemonade in a cup. so they're giving us ingredients and we're getting water and we're going to mix and hopefully find a cure. >> their daughter lilly was diagnosed with a cancerous brain

we are seeing overcast skies, tracking light showers heading into late morning, early afternoon hours. conditions in philadelphia 66 degrees. wind speed out of the west northwest. a closer look at the next eight hours. our temperatures are already about 9 degrees warmer than yesterday. as we head into the afternoon, we'll continue to see a warming trend. so 70 as soon as 9 a.m. by noon 74 degrees, by 3 p.m. 77 and today's highs will range between 78 and 81 degrees. full forecast coming up. >> a young boy is recovering after being hit by a car in southwest philadelphia. witnesses say the boy was riding his skate board near traffic when he was hit. he suffered injuries to his leg.

the driver stayed there and waited for police. >> he definitely did the right thing and stayed here. >> over the past three month three other children have been hit by cars in the city and each time the drivers fled the scene. yesterday a rally was head by the family of one hit-and-run victim. the driver that hit their daughter has never been found. >> why not stop and make sure they're all right. why keep going? >> the family is calling for strict are penalties against drivers who flee the scene of a crash. the time 7:11. we could see history on the racetrack. can american pharoah become the first horse in 37 years to win the triple crown? a preview of the belmont stakes is next.

degrees as well in wilmington. a few scattered showers moving through lancaster county and we did see scattered showers move through philadelphia. as we head into your late morning hours, we'll see another round of late showers. this is closer to 1 p.m., stretching into nukeewcastle county. by 3 or 4:00 most of these showers are already out of here. we do have a weak cold front that's going to move through and help trigger some of these light showers. by friday plenty of sunshine. by monday clouds move back in and we wait for thunderstorms monday afternoon and evening with lingering showers into tuesday. 70 degrees and just a bit cooler. done the shore we'll see temperatures at 75 degrees. partly sunny and warmer today than what we saw yesterday with

a few passing showers earlier in the afternoon. and then by sunday we drop down to about 70 degrees. temperatures are going to be really nice range between 71 and 81 degrees. more sunshine toward the afternoon, warmer and passing showers expected. so a bit on the breezy side today. >> seven-day forecast shows warmer temperatures than what we saw last week and your seven-day forecast shows a warmup monday and we stay that way all next week. >> today you are encouraged to get outdoors for national trails day. in new jersey more than 30 events are planned and it sounds like from brittney's forecast it should stay that way.

philadelphia's tour de cure gets rolling in just over an hour from now. this is video from last year's event. honeys of cyclists will take part in the race to help stop diabetes. riders of all levels are invited to the event. there are five different routes available, including a three mile family fun ride to a 100-mile century ride. dozens of other cyclists will begin their 75 mile journey this morning. it starts in philadelphia and ends in sea isle city. >> are you involved in a nonprofit looking for free grant money? the project brought to you by nbc 10 and nbc universal is called 21st century solutions, the goal is to support nonprofits implementing new and innovative programs. the application is on the web

in in yemen. more than 330 people are confirmed dead after a river cruise boat capsized in southern china on sunday. many more are still missing. crews now have that ship upright as they continue their search. more than 450 were on board when the "eastern star" overturned after being hit by a cyclone on sunday. there were only 14 survivors. >> president obama is voicing concerns about renewed fighting in eastern ukraine just before he's due to depart for a summit in germany. ukrainian soldiers faced pro-russian rebels. president obama said he spoke with ukraine's president by phone yesterday. both leaders called for them to

live up to a peace treaty signed in february. >> an amtrak train slammed into a truck blocking the track just outside of chicago. it happened yesterday afternoon. the truck was carrying of all things, 70,000 pounds of bacon. nobody was seriously hurt and none of the train's cars left the track. this all comes a month after the deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia where eight people died and more than 200 others were hurt. the train was traveling more than twice the appropriate speed at the derailment. >> this marks the two-year anniversary of a deadly center city building collapse. the last woman rescued got to

meet her rescuer. >> i was the firearm who found you. oh, you're welcome, you're welcome. >> maria thanked battalion chief john o'neill during their meeting in west philadelphia yesterday. she was buried in the debris following the collapse at 22nd and market streets on june 5, 2013. 13 hours into the collapse and well into the night, chief o'neill found the ukrainian woman in the rubble. he heard her cries for help. she lost both legs. >> translator: sometimes it's very difficult to do what i have to do but i am thankful this person saved my life. >> six people were killed in that collapse. the demolition contractor and equipment operator are set for trial in september. they are both charged with third degree murder. right now you can read an

showers this morning but the sun will return later on today as we warm up to the low 80s. welcome back to "nbc 10 news." i'm rosemary connors. just after 7:30 on this saturday. let's get right to the first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. good morning. >> good morning. we are seeing light showers as we head into the early afternoon, clearing as expected by late afternoon hours and warmer temperatures heading into the 80s today. right now overcast skies. right now we're pretty much dry. let me show you what's going to happen closer to 1:00. we'll see another round of showers and a moderate downpour in newscastle county near cape may county. you can see see light showers lingering and then you'll see more clearing. that will set us up for a beautiful sunday. plenty of sunshine. then we track another round of storms as we head into monday

this is "nbc 10 news." >> at 7:42 on this saturday here is a live look at citizens bank park where the phillies will take on the san francisco giants in game two of their series. game time is 3:05 this afternoon. meteorologist brittney shipp has been telling us there are some showers in the forecast that really should not affect this afternoon's game. may be a good idea to bring a rain jacket with you just in case if you are headed out there today. at fenway park in boston it was a scary scene when a woman was hit by a flying baseball bat. the bat splintered and shot into the stands at last night's red sox game and hit the woman right in the head. the game was delayed. crews rushed the woman to the hospital with life threatening injuries. she was reportedly at the game with her husband and child. >> to sisters of reality tv star

josh duggar are defending him after admitting he sexually assaulted them both. jessa and jill told fox news they forgive their brother for inappropriately touching them. they said the incident happened more than ten years ago. the sisters told fox news that the biggest issue is not the sexual abuse but their family's private matters being made public. >> i do want to speak up in his defense against people who are calling him a child molester or a pedophile or a rapist. i can say this you know, i was one of the victims. >> this is certainly that was already dealt with. we've already forgiven josh. we've already moved on. >> authorities are now investigating josh duggars' alleged sexual abuse against the two sisters and three other family members. >> some new allegations this morning against former house

speaker dennis hastert. a woman claimed he sexually abused her late brother when he was just a teen-ager. she said he was the equipment manager for the yorkville, illinois wrestling team where hastert coached in the 70s. her brother died of aids in 1995. burdge said she confronted hastert at her brother's funeral. >> i just looked at him and i said i want to know why you did what you did to my brother. he just stood there and stared at me. i continued to say i want you to know that your secret didn't die in there with my brother. >> hastert was charged last week for allegedly paying $3.5 million for past misconduct against another student. hastert has not commented on that case. he is scheduled to make his

first court appearance next week. >> the doctor charged with corruption alongside new jersey senator bob menendez could soon be released from jail. a federal judge has ruled that the doctor will be allowed to post bond. a magistrate will set the bond on monday. the former doctor is charged with medicare fraud. he's accused of giving new jersey's senior senator in exchange for political favors. senator mennesendez has vowed to fight the charges. >> the pope is expecting to call for lasting reconciliation between christians and muslims in the former yugoslav republic. pope francis will visit philadelphia for the world meeting of families in

september. good morning. we are going to see a little bit more sunshine heading into the afternoon and definitely by tomorrow. plus warmer temperatures expected for us today, back to the 80s and storms in the seven-day forecast as soon as monday. right now we are seeing overcast skies and a little bit more sunshine trying to peek through for philadelphia. 66 degrees right now so a mild start to the morning both in philadelphia reading, even down to atlantic city 63 degrees. temperatures today will push into the 80s. that's an improvement from what we've soon. we've been below average the last couple of days. 65 in wilmington low 60s in mt. holly, right along the shore, 63 in avalon and 63 in lewis. yesterday we stayed in the

mid-70s. today we'll push to 80 degrees, which is right at average. we go above average on monday and we stay there all week. plus we track showers. we're tracking showers moving into east noting ham and showers developing in the southern part of burlington county. most of the area is completely dry. it really depends where you are. we have another chance to see spotty showers moving through in the late morning hours in doylestown. especially down the shore near cape may, right around 3 p.m. and then clearing and even more sunshine. i don't want to you be caught off guard about the showers, we just have a small wind open where we are going to see a little bit of light rainfall and warmer temperatures expected for us into the rest of today. by 9:00 a.m. 70 degrees, into

new from overnight, saudi arabia says the country's military shot down a scud missile fired from yemen. saudi media reports a patriot missile battery downed the scud a little earlier today. there were no reports of anybody hurt. this latest development could be an escalation of the war between the sunni rulers in saudi arabia and shiite rebels in yemen. we have new information now about an earthquake in malaysia. this morning rescuers recovered the bodies of nine more climbers from the country's highest mountain, bringing the total number of dead to 11. the magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit
