yet another hit and run in philadelphia leaves a 63-year-old woman in critical condition. the clue that has police closing in on the driver. a little girl is in the hospital this morning after police in delaware say she wandered into a pond at a country club. we'll have details on the investigation. the heat will hover over the area again today with temperatures in the 80s, plus the rain returns with scattered showers this morning and the chance of thunderstorms later on. good morning. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm rosemary connors. meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking the changes in the first alert forecast.

good morning. >> good morning. tracking scattered showers mainly south of philadelphia. here's a live look this morning outside. it's hazy it's warm. temperatures mainly in the 60s and 70s. it will be hot by later this afternoon. looking at radar, we have showers on radar south of philadelphia parts of south jersey, also delaware. zooming in closer south of delaware lightning and thunder. heavy rainfall near rising sun, oranges and yellows indicating heavy rainfall. if you're out and about early in those spots, be careful. temperatures now, mild. we're in the 60s to the knot and west. 73 in philadelphia. 73 in wilmington. 67 in allentown. 73 in dover and 73 in wildwood. we're planning on another hot day, scattered showers and thunderstorms.

by 8:00, 76. 83 by lunch time. 3:00, 85. we'll talk about the storms today a bigger threat monday and tuesday, then a nice wednesday. we'll talk about that coming up. >> looking forward to it. thank you. a 63-year-old woman is clinging to life after police say a driver ran her down in a hit-and-run accident in south philadelphia. jesse gary is live at 9th and or oregon avenue. do police have any leads in the case? >> reporter: police say the registered owner of the vehicle was not behind the wheel at the time of the accident but that person did provide investigators with what they're calling a person of interest. before midnight investigators say the person of interest was driving eastbound on oregon, which is where i'm standing. the victim was crossing 9th street here. this is where the collision takes place. 63-year-old woman is now in extremely critical condition at jefferson hospital. we talked to a witness who was

standing about a block away at 10th and oregon. >> all i heard was the noise. the car fly off, going down oregon avenue. >> reporter: what do you think about that? >> it's crazy. i don't know what's going on in this city. >> reporter: police are looking for a red four-door ford focus, pennsylvania license plate jnl 7292. if you have seen this vehicle, you want to call philadelphia police. they say it has front end damage and damage to the windshield. we'll tell you what other tools police are using to help find this so-called person of interest. live in south philadelphia jesse gary nbc 10 news. in ocean county crews are putting out hot spots from a house fire in bricktownship. the blaze on broward drive broke out before 1:00 this morning. fire crews had it under control within an hour. three homes had to be evacuated. medics took one man to the hospital with serious injuries. a firefighter who suffered heat

exhaustion is also at the hospital. investigators are now looking for the cause of this fire. five workers went to the hospital after a chemical spill inside parlor restaurant in ardmore's suburban square. the workers were cleaning around 11:00 last night when two chemicals mixed together and created fumes. the employees reported feeling sick and went to lankenau hospital. the restaurant was cleaned and declared safe for business. this morning we are continuing to check on the condition of a young girl who was pulled from a pond in newark delaware. police found the girl in a retention pond at the newark country club. she wandered away from a party at the george wilson center on new london road. the crime scene unit remained on the scene late into the evening. the girl who is between 3 and 5 years old, wandered past the fence and into the pond. it's unclear how long she was under the water. fire officials tell us she was

unconscious when she arrived at the emergency room at christiana hospital. as soon as we learn more about her condition we will pass it along. this morning philadelphia police are still trying to sort out what happened at the scene of a deadly standoff in kensington. >> no! no! this was the scene before a s.w.a.t. team made its way into a row home on emerald street yesterday. neighbors called police. when officers arrived, a man barricaded inside the house started to shoot at them. neighbors evacuated. the gunfire eventually stopped. that's when the s.w.a.t. team went in. once inside the row home a police robot found two men dead. investigators tell us they were not shooting because they held their fire during the standoff. >> it's an easy call for us. we have clear policies on that and they're for a reason. i believe a lot of lives were saved that day because of that. again, i was thankful there were no other lives lost.

>> police found a gun inside the hole. they're trying to determine if one of the men who died was their suspect, an ex-con considered armed and dangerous. this morning seven people including a firefighter are recovering from injuries suffered in an apartment fire in montgomery county. the fire started in the upper floor of the building at the towers wyncote. more than 100 firefighters rushed to the scene yesterday. felicia rauls tells us she grabbed her dog and ran down 12 flights of stairs for safety. >> just pure blackness. a firefighter came up and was like evacuate the building. it's an actual fire get out now. >> at the scene, firefighters found this dog, you can see the dog needed oxygen. neighbors suspect the flames came from a grease fire in the building. the fire marshal is still investigating. let's go to somers point, atlantic county where a car slammed into a house last night

and left a gaping hole by the front window. the driver apparently lost control and hit the house on 5th street. there were people inside at the time but nobody was hurt. it's unclear if the driver will face charges. we have a traffic alert to let you know about this morning. here's a live look at the ben franklin bridge which will close in a few minutes at 5:45. the bridge will stay closed until 7:45 this morning. it's all to make way for the american cancer society's philadelphia bike-a-thon. patco and the pedestrian walkway will not be affected. the bike-a-thon will begin at the base of the bridge at 6:30 this morning. more than 3,000 cyclists will pedal their way to boardwalk hall in atlantic city. the time is 5:37. still ahead, camden versus philadelphia. how camden county and philly police are coming together to help the family of a fallen

hundreds of people took to the streets in camden this weekend for the children's unity walk. they ended up at the north camden little league field in pine point park. a $3 million investment in the park includes new baseball and soccer fields new basketball courts and playground equipment. once they reached the park the

we're being shot at at headquarters. >> we're learning more about the man behind yesterday's attack on police head quarters in dallas. the man has been identified as james boulware. authorities say he opened fire from an armored van and rammed a police car before leading officers on a chase to a restaurant parking lot nearby. there, fearing he may try to flee, snipers shot and killed him in the van.

his father said when his son lost custody of his child, james went into a downward spiral blaming police. >> every one of us has a breaking point. some is one point, some is another. we all have one. >> police found several bags at their headquarters one carrying a pipebomb that exploded when a robot tried to move it. more explosives were found inside the van which caught fire as they were being detonated. no officers were hurt in the shooting. a london newspaper is reporting that great britain is pulling secret agents out of certain countries because of security leaks from edward snowden. britain made the move after russia and china cracked top secret documents leaked by snowden that could help identify british and u.s. spies. the u.s. wants the former u.s. contractor to stand trial. snowed has been living in moscow

since 2013. new this morning, philadelphia is now part of a nationwide campaign to promote a better understanding of islam. we want to show who of the 11 billboards up in the city. the islamic circle of north america is hoping the messages encourage dialogue on the truth about islam and the prophet muhammad. the billboards invite folks with questions to call a toll-free number or visit a website. the campaign comes before the start of ramadan which begins wednesday at sunset. the islamic heritage festival had folks on their feet yesterday. the annual event in penn's landing featured music, games, speakers, and a health and wellness fair plus an open market bazaar. ♪ today marks 100 days until the world meeting of families in philadelphia in a little over a week mayor michael nutter and other leaders will head to rome for final meetings in

tour in europe yesterday. so far ten candidates have declared they are seeking the republican presidential nomination. another republican who could soon announce a presidential run is new jersey governor chris christie. the speculation continues. in state business christie's proposed budget has a clear path to approval. last week it was ruled the governor can skip extra pension payments. critics call it a bad idea saying it won't help cut new jersey's budget deficit. a gloucester county man has pled guilty to stealing more than $600,000 in a fake textbook scheme. robert armstrong admitted to sending fake invoices to thousands of schools across the country for math and language books that did not exist. prosecutors say almost 1,000 schools sent armstrong money. even know they had not ordered anything from him. armstrong agreed to serve 3 1/2 years in prison and to pay back
