a block party in philadelphia ends in gunfire leaving seven people shot including three children. we're live at penn presbyterian with new details. the is moving out. the heat and humidity are moving in. get your first alert forecast hour by hour. good morning. welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm ted greenberg. it's 9:00 a.m. on this sunday morning. happy father's day to all the dads out there. let's say hello to meteorologist brittney shipp in the first alert weather center. i was looking out there, actually seeing some blue skies now. >> things are clearing up. our first alert is officially over. as we head into the morning, a

few isolated showers our flood concerns are pretty much over as well. wet roads for cape may this morning. as we head into the rest of today, the next concern is hot and humid conditions heading into the rest of your father's day. most of the heavy rain is off shore and most of the rain in general is off shore. if we zoom in we are seeing a few scattered showers near mystic island and outside of stafford. heading into the rest of today on this father's day, temperature ranging from 87 to 90 degrees. just early rain hot and humid conditions. our feels-like temperature in the mid 90s. i'll let you know how long the warmer temperatures will stick around. that's coming up in my full forecast. shootings have taken the lives of three people in philadelphia since last night. police say a security guard at a bar shot and killed a man in olney. they say a fight broke out at old madrid at 5th and fisher

around 2:00 this morning. authorities say when the security guard escorted a 27-year-old man out of the bar, he attacked the guard. the guard shot the man. the guard suffered a minor cut. a fight at a different bar in philadelphia led to a deadly shooting there. investigators say a fight broke out between a man and a woman at a bar at 29th and chalmers. that's when the bar's owners got involved and shot the man in the chest. the victim was taken to the hospital and later died. in mantua last night, a man was shot just after 9:30 at 37th and mount vernon. that man died a short time later no arrests have been made. philadelphia police are trying to sort out what led to a shooting at a block party. seven people were hurt, six remain in the hospital. jesse gary is live outside penn presbyterian hospital where one of the victims was discharged this morning.

what is the latest on the investigation? >> reporter: police are investigating with no real leads in the case. one of the victims from night's shooting was mum about the ordeal but his stepmother is speaking out. >> it was scary. my children were out there. little kids. it was just ridiculous. >> reporter: she says the started as a birthday celebration and ended with with her stepson tyrone jones and others treated for gunshot wounds. jones was mum about the ordeal as he left penn presbyterian hospital this morning. someone opened fire around 11:30 last night as the family celebrated a relative's birthday. >> i heard a loud sound. i was in the house. boom. i didn't know what it was. >> reporter: neighbors quickly learned that seven people were hit by a shotgun blast at north 41st and ogden street in philadelphia. investigators say the shooter may have been at the gathering, left and returned with weapons. >> it appears everybody who was

here at the picnic was hurt. >> reporter: three children including an 18-month-old girl were also wounded, along with four adults. the victims are being treated for pellet blasts to various parts of their bodies. detectives have no leads. this woman believes jealousy is the motive. >> my kid's father he has no enemies. we have no enemies. you understand what i'm saying? i don't know. >> reporter: exactly what the police are saying they have no ideas either no leads in the case. the people out there last night, they say they are all mum, have amnesia about the whole thing. the victims still optized are all in stable condition. if you have in information about this case you're asked to call southwest detectives. live in west philadelphia, jesse gary nbc 10 news. from philadelphia we go to detroit where a similar incident at a block party left one person dead. the shooter is still on the run. nine other people were hurt.

no children were shot quoting here, through the grace of god. authorities think the victim who was killed had been targeted by the shooter. the search for two escaped killers moves closer to the pennsylvania border. place are investigating a possible sighting of david sweat and richard matt yesterday after along train tracks in friendship new york about 30 miles from the pennsylvania border. the duo used power tools to cut their way out of the clinton correctional facility in northern new york earlier this month. residents are urged who live in the area to be on alert. happening now, church services are resuming at emanuel ame church in charleston south carolina after nine people were killed during the shooting rampage there last week. a live look at the church where in the next 30 minutes the

congregation will begin its first service without pastor clementa pinckney. she was one of the nine victims gunned down. a new york pastor will lead today's service. the philadelphia church with ties to emanuel ame in charleston is also reopening today for sunday services. black bunting hangs inside mother bethel a.m.e. church in society hill in remembrance for the nine victims. church leaders tell us they're making sure all worshipers are safe today. >> we know we're in a neighborhood where anybody can walk through the doors. we have always taken it serious. i'm certain we'll pay more attention to it now. at the end of the day we don't want to let fear drive us. >> some houses of worship in our area are planning fund-raisers for the church in charleston. for a list, visit nbc10.com.

pope francis arrived in turin today and viewed the piece of cloth known as the turin shroud. some people believe it's the same 14-foot cloth that covered jesus christ but skeptics think otherwise. during the pope's visit he is expected to meet with young people workers, immigrants and sick people. we continue to follow the preparations for the pope. later today the philadelphia delegation for the world meeting of families will leave for roam. archbishop charles chaput mayor nutter and local leaders will meet with vatican officials to iron out the details for the event and pope francis' visit in september. they're scheduled to fly out of philadelphia international airport 6:30 this evening and will be overseas through friday. chris cato is also in rome and will have live reports from there beginning tonight. forced to evacuate the firefly music festival. it gets shut down early as

the firefly music festival in dover is scheduled to go on as planned today after this severe weather forced organizers to clear the grounds last night. a viewer sent us this video which shows crowds streaming towards the exits. organizers urged people to take down any tents and canopies at their camp site and to take shelter in vehicles. again, today's shows are expected to go on as scheduled.

weather will stick around. ted? >> see you then. drivers in new jersey continue to see higher prices at the pump. this marks the fifth straight week that prices have gone up in the garden state. according to aaa, the average price of a gallon of regular in new jersey is $2.62. that's up two cents from last week. still much lower than the $3.59 drivers were paying this time last year. here's a look across the region. as we said in new jersey most drivers are paying around 2.62. in delaware the average price is $2.75 a gallon. in philadelphia 2.83. veterans need help now more than ever. the list that's growing instead of shrinking at va centers nationwide.

welcome back. 9:15. happy father's day to the dads out there as we take a live look towards city hall and the comcast center in center city philadelphia. the temperature climbed up to almost 80 degrees. the sun is shining in most parts of our area. we will be getting up to near 90 today with lots of humidity. this week's wednesday child is a teen who loves life and is filled with creativity and is hoping to find a forever family to love and support her. vai sikahema introduces us to her. >> the music changes a bit so you'll know when to pose.

low-hanging clouds. 78 degrees. warming up nicely. a mix of sun and clouds. breezes out of the west-northwest at 10 miles per hour. we're 77 in allentown, philadelphia in the high 70s. cape may in the mid 70s. rain still coming down. depends on where you are, mostly everywhere now seeing more clearing. our radar shot shows the entire temperature, remnants of bill pushing off to the northeast. now we're just dealing with a few scattered showers mainly hugging the coastline near cape may. our rainfall totals north and west of philadelphia maybe 1.4 inches closer to 4 inches if you were in delaware. so it ranges from 1 to 4 inches. heavy rainfall moves through. as we show you on future cast we will see clearing as we head into the afternoon. a passing shower closer to 4:00 5:00. don't get caught off guard by

a fiery scene in the east falls section of philadelphia when a car burst into flames. this is on the roosevelt expressway near fox street around 3:30 this morning. shortly after we arrived, firefighters were able to put the flames out. luckily no one was hurt. still no word on what sparked

that fire. a merck scientist in north jersey is facing charges for allegedly running a lab in his home to produce the drug ghb. prosecutors say chemicals and other materials used to make the drug were found in the man's springfield home in union county. ghb is often called a date rape drug because it can produce sedative effects. wait lists for veterans at some va centers are longer now than they were a year ago. according to the "new york times," the va has increased its capacity by 7 million patient visits since last year when a scandal over false records and long wait times hit the department of veterans affairs. but officials did not anticipate just how much workload and demand from veterans would continue to increase. talk about catching a wave. take a look at this. 66 surfers set the world record

for the most people riding a board at once. about 5,000 people were at huntington beach in california to watch the guinness world record attempt. the surfers rode the wave for 12 seconds. the previous record was set a decade ago when 47 surfers rode a wave for 10 seconds. happening today police will help kids in camden treat their dad force fathers for father's day. the police department in camden is paying to have a mr. softee ice cream truck deliver free goodies to children and their dads. the truck will drive through several neighborhoods between 5 and 8:00 p.m. if you don't have plans today, you may want to head to the steele pier in atlantic city. there are several things happening there today including the atlantic city grand prix powerboat race the bass pro shops outlet is hosting a family fishing tournament of sorts on the pier this afternoon and all

black bunting hangs inside mother bethel a.m.e. church in society hill in remembrance for the nine victims. church leaders tell us they're making sure all worshipers are safe today. last night hundreds of people marched through downtown charleston to emanuel ame where police say suspect dylann roof opened fire during an evening bible study. this morning we know the fbi is investigating a website registered under roof's name. it features a manifesto-type posting where the writer lashes out at african-americans, hispanics, asians and jews. there are also photos of roof holding a gun, burning an american flag and standing in front of a confederate history library. in the wake of the shooting demonstrators in the capital city of columbia south carolina continue to urge officials to remove the confederate flag from the statehouse grounds. hundreds of people gathered there yesterday afternoon. dylann roof has been photographed with the confederate flag and had the

somehow got his hands from behind his back, grabbed the gun and got into the front of the cruiser through a small opening. right now police are trying to determine how the man obtained the weapon and they do not believe he used the officer's gun. >> that prisoner somehow was able to get his hands from behind his back where he was handcuffed, where then he was handcuffed from the front. he actually shot officer holloway while transporting him. >> officials say that officer was a 22-year veteran of the new orleans police department. delaware county businesses are working to make this father's day special for the son of a fallen philadelphia police officer. the youngest son of sergeant robert wilson iii turns two this month. a group of delaware county residents used social media to gather birthday cards for the boy. that idea spread and nearly a dozen businesses are holding a birthday party him today. sergeant wilson was shot and killed in north philadelphia back in march. he had gone into a gamestop to buy a gift for his older son's

margarita. 300 firefighters are expected to join those already working on the blaze. investigators are trying to figure out how the fire started. also in california investigators want to know how this fire started at a marina close to where the u.s. open is taking place. no one was hurt but 30 boats were destroyed. smoke and flames from the fire could be seen during the live broadcast of the tournament. officials say the blaze caused about $4 million in damage. detectives in one florida county used the photograph of a hand to identify a man who was suspected of sexually abusing a 1-year-old. investigators found the photograph of the hand and were able to successfully extract and identify the tinger print erpinger fingerprint. detectives then used computers

to isolate the fingerprints, which they compared to prints found on the little boy. >> this was actually more reliable than comparing to a print last at the scene, here you are look at the actual finger and you're not worried about how much pressure was applied to that print. >> last week jurors found the man guilty on all charges. experts say this is a game changer and could help catch other dangerous criminals in the future. actress and director angelina jolie is asking for more to be done to help refugees around the world. she visited a refugee camp in turkey yesterday. she was there in her role as a united nations special envoy. she called the millions of refugees across the globe an explosion of human suffering. in addition to this being

father's day. a hot and humid father's day for it's with temperatures pushing into the 90s. the feels like temperature in the mid 90s. we saw a lot of rain move in overnight down the shore delaware. hot and humid conditions for us staying hot into next week. we're tracking the possibility of a heat wave. conditions throughout philadelphia, 80 degrease. mostly cloudy skies, dry, winds out of the northwest at 15 miles per hour. 77 in allentown, sunshine peeking through. no sunshine in philadelphia cape may light rainfall with temperatures in the mid 70s. seeing quite a range with our conditions this morning. you'll notice this entire system is pushing off to the northeast and pushing away from us. we will see a mix of sun and clouds. how much rain did we get? between 1 and 4 inches of rain
