and you can play a very personal role. we have details about a unique art project happening today. we are in for a sunny and warm start to the workweek. but the dry weather won't last very long as we take a live look over center city. the first alert weather team is tracking storms for tomorrow. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today. i'm rosemary connors. >> and i'm vai sikahema. it will be a warm start. we'll start out cool to begin the workweek. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley with the forecast. >> we're on track for the nicest day of the week today. sunshine will be nice and bright. this morning, a little bit of a breeze blowing. not too strong. dry air has moved into the area. it's a nice cool start this morning. we're in the 50s and 60s right now. currently it is 64 in philadelphia. a little bit cooler in trenton and millville, 50s for coatesville, pottstown and doylestown and low 60s in roxborough. northeast philadelphia airport 64 degrees. sunshine and temperatures climbing upper 60s by 9:00.

75 and really comfortable at noontime as the humidity stays low. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. right now let's check in with nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> we're watching the xxschuylkill expressway right now around south street. these are the eastbound lanes right here, westbound doing okay as well. let's take a look at the drive times in and out of the center city area, 95 southbound from woodhaven road up towards the vine street expressway. 13 minutes. the schuylkill the total stretch into the center city area, 12 minutes. currently on the blue route, we're watching out for downed wires on 295, closing the off ramp since last tuesday night at exit 17 harmony road. also out in cherry hill new jersey route 70 westbound, still dealing with ongoing construction. one lane is getting by by south cornell avenue and mcclelland avenue. more drive times in the next ten

minutes. vai. >> thank you, jessica. a developing story thisç morning, the second escaped prizer who spendpriz prisoner who spent more than three weeks on the run. it happened near the canadian border yesterday. sweat, a convicted killer had been on the run for some 22 days. and police hoped to question him more about what led to the escape. hundreds of officers were looking for him and neighbors were on the edge. yesterday the community came together to thank law enforcement for their work. >> they have put their lives at risk for us. and i can't thank them enough. can't thank them enough. >> a border patrol agent shot and killed the other escaped fugitive richard matt. the second prison employee accused of helping the men break out is scheduled to appear in court. it has been days nearly a week since severe weather caused

major power outages throughout the region. >> some residents are still in the dark this morning. right now there's just one county with more outages than others. gloucester county nearly 5,000 customers in the dark. the next largest problem area is camden county with fewer than 700 outages. in pennsylvania and delaware, the power is almost completely back on. >> nbc 10's matt delucia joins us live from gloucester conte where some residents are entering a sixth day without power. uncomfortable for them to say the least, matt. >> i can tell you with that sixth day with no power, people are getting frustrated. i stopped off at a convenience store to pick up a coffee and i could hear people talking about this, it's the talk of the town where is my power? most of the people do have power at this hour but still, a lot of people do not. we're along harmony road in gibbstown. the roads are still blocked off. way down there in the distance, the traffic lights are still out as well. this is a road that was really

affected badly by the storm. there was a utility pole knocked down on to the roadway. that's how bad it was out here. the mayor of greenwich township says he's fed up with all this. he wants governor christie to sign an emergency declaration that we get fema and funds down here to repair what is into the millions. several businesses have been closed as well. the mayor and the residents tell us they just want a straight answer. what he's been told by atlantic city electric is that the hope now is to get the power back up to everyone by this evening. some of the folks telling us they've heard those estimates before and they will believe it only when they see it when the power finally comes back on. the monitoring progress out here this morning. so far, not much of a change. those lights are still out. some of the folks, still no

power. live in greenwich township, matt delucia nbc 10 news. >> thank you for that, matt. today lawmakers in new jersey could vote on tax relief for working families. the state assembly will meet in trenton to consider a bill to raise the earned income tax credit. one assembly leader says that will help nearly 500,000 families across new jersey. as philadelphia prepares for the pope's visit in september, a public art project in his honor will be taking shape in philadelphia today. the project is called undoing the knots. today at noon at dilworth plaza outside city hall people can write messages on strips of cloth. a world renowned artist is collecting those strips to weave in a display. be sure to download the free nbc 10 news app for the latest developments. the world meeting of families and the papal visit, has an entire section dedicated to how the region is preparing for pope francis's visit.

so this is what kept we up last night as i was trying to get to bed in old city. the fireworks finale for philadelphia's tall ship festival. the fireworks lit up the sky.

the show was supposed to happen saturday but was postponed because of the rain. fortunately no rain in sight as the tall ships festival wrapped up just before the fireworks. thousands of people turn out for the final day of the event. it featured more than a dozen historic boats. happening today, land owners in chester county will get the chance to learn more about the impact of the controversial pipeline project. sunoco will hold a meeting at westchester university. it will give people the opportunity to ask questions about the sunoco officials behind the mariner east 2 pipeline. it's expected to carry natural gas drilling products across the area. the department of homeland security is on high alert after issuing a warning about a possible terror attack. that bulletin went out to law enforcement across the country on friday warning of an isis-inspired attack on american soil. the fbi and the department of homeland security say that no

specific or credible threat has been identified yet. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. 20 minutes before 5:00. we're getting a nice start this morning. the humidity is low. the temperatures are on the cool side and it's going to be a comfortable day today. 64 degrees, all day long the comfort you'll feel. humidity way down at 675%. that number will go lower as the day goes on. currently at 65%. we're in great shape, we'll see lots of sunshine. look at the warmup low 70s for pocono mountains, upper 70s for allentown and quakertown. cooler than normal for this time of year for doylestown trenton and mt. holly. right along the coastline it's around 80 degrees for atlantic city, cape may and rehoboth. most of day in the 70s. brilliant sunshine for westchester westchester, swedesboro. into the 80s this afternoon.

several families were on the beach when they noticed guys reeling in the shark. this morning, we have new information about the deadly attack on a beach in tunisia. these new pictures have emerged of the gunmen running along the beach where officials say he shot and killed 38 people before police killed him. now investigators are looking for several accomplices. the gunman's father was released yesterday after police questioned him. he told them he was shocked by what his son did and that he had no idea who may have influenced him. back here at home there are growing fears in a small ohio town that a serial killer may be on the loose. six women have disappeared in just more than a year in or near chill cosikos chillikosi. >> who did they have as

associates or peripheral friends? the mans i beanswer may there be. >> one of the deaths are officially considered a homicide. investigators will visit the site of a deadly plane crash in massachusetts. it took off from lancaster county. three people on board the small plane, including a child were killed. the crash sparked a fire which destroyed the house. four people inside that home got out safely. it's been one year since isis proclaimed statehood and since that declaration, the group has spread terror fears across the globe. the islamic state has been known for its acts of terror over the past year. now militants are urging supporters to carry out similar attacks. the united states has hit isis targets with air strikes which the pentagon estimates have killed some 10,000 isis militants in iraq and syria. some massachusetts high

school students who wrote the former mob boss whitey bulgur got a surprising response. the 85-year-old who is serving a life sentence for his role in nearly a dozen murders sent back a handwritten response saying they shouldn't waste their time on him. >> towards the end he becomes remorseful and he actually said at one point that his life will come to an end soon. >> he also told the students that his life was wasted and spent foolishly. if they want to make crime pay, they should go to law school. now to news overseas in the deepening financial crisis in greece. the cabinet will restrict cash withdrawals. the government is trying to stop the flow of money out of banks and spur the country's creditors to offer concessions before a bailout program expires on tuesday. talk about a big catch.

we'll see cloudless skies and a gentle breeze to start with. that's dry, comfortable air this morning. a few scattered clouds in reading, 64 right now in philadelphia. wilmington is 62 degrees. a really pleasant start. you'll see sunshine at the shore, cape may will stay completely dry today and be in the 70s for most of the day and warm to near 80 this afternoon. satellite showing scattered clouds, those will thin out. we'll see sunshine but it will have to deal with these clouds tomorrow. with those clouds come the chance of showers. the radar is completely clear. don't expect to see activity in our area today. the showers moving across indiana into the ohio valley due in for parts of the area tomorrow afternoon. doesn't look quite as impressive as they do this morning as they come into our area. early tomorrow morning, 1:00 we will be clear and waiting for the clouds to develop and come in during the afternoon hours. early in the afternoon is where

we could see spotty showers, especially to the west. that's 2:00 tomorrow afterfinance. this just updated information shows a spotty shower at 3:00. most of the area ends up staying dry. leave the umbrwlla at home today. grab the sunglasses, nice, sunny, look at the temperatures. so comfortable. 60s this morning. 75 degrees at noontime and climbing into the very low 80s this afternoon. the humidity stays low today. making it nice and comfortable. chance of showers, just a chance of scattered showers tomorrow. up to 87 and the humidity starts keeping back into the area on tuesday. there's a chance of showers for wednesday, thursday and friday with high temperatures in the middle 80s. as we go towards the weekend, though, the temperatures heating up for the fourth of july, saturday chance of showers, 88 degrees and sunday up to 89. 4:50 on this monday. the weather should not be a problem for drivers as you head out the door. >> not at all. road closures and lane restrictions.

that's not unexpected at this time of the day with road construction. >> what we normally see is road construction up until 5:00 a.m. they start cleaning out of the way before rush hour begins to be heavily. we're on lehigh valley on 78 around lehigh street. everything moving along just fine there. out on the schuylkill expressway, drive times around the conshohocken curve, they're all green. that means they're moving and still a 13-minute trip heading from the blue route up to the vine street expressway. we are still seeing a ramp closure out in greenwich township new jersey on 295 due to downed wires from last week's storm. so exit 17 around harmony road, that exit ramp is closed. follow local detours through the area. you'll do just fine. gas prices are finally falling after more than two months of price hikes.

according to aaa, the national average is $2.78 a gallon that's 88 cents less than the average price on independence day last year. the average is 2.89 in 4- t$iladelphia drivers in delaware can expect to pay $2.71. the lowest local prices as is typical is $2.55 a gallon. parents, listen up the earlier you take your kids for their first dental visit, the better. children who receive earlier oral care are less likely to get cavities. children whose doctors offered preventive oral health services before age 3 had fewer decayed baby teeth. nbc 10 and nction universal are giving away grants to local nonprofit organizations.

nbc 10's doug shimell served as the emcee. i think he's the unofficial mayor of narberth. this event raises money for fill abundance. the court's last cases covering legal injection, among other issues. tomorrow new jersey governor chris christie is expected to officially declare he's running for president. christie will join more than a dozen other republicans who have declared their intentions to seek the nomination. the governor released a video last night previewing his announcement sharing the story of how his late mother --

he will join a crowded field of republicans who have already entered the race 13 candidates have declared they're rung for the gop nomination for president. so far, four democrats have announced they're making a run for the white house. and from our nbc 10 jersey shore bureau atlantic city's former trump plaza casino won't be re-opening anytime soon at least not as a casino. that's because its owners filed a deed restriction which prevents it from being use as a casino for at lopht a decade. it still could be used as another person, though. the casino closed last september. this morning, we are getting a first look at some new sightings of air dangerous creature at the jersey shore.

this is a portuguese man 'o war. it has a severely painful sting and in some cases it could be deadly. we first told you about a man 'o war last week. since then there have within sightings in spots down the shore, including stone harbor. >> did you do summer camp as a kid. >> i did free summer camp in lower merion township. >> some kids can do so that normally wouldn't be able to do so. >> all 170 participants have chronic juvenile diabetes. more than two dozen nurses and other staffers are on hand looking out for the kids medical needs as well as letting them get the full camp experience. >> we work very hard to make sure that parents aren't anxious
