suspects. not what you want to see your bus driver doing behind the wheel. this video was taken during a philadelphia-to-new york trip. what nbc 10 is learning about the driver and the bus company. we today but showers and thunderstorms are on the horizon for parts of our area a little bit later on. not everybody will be seeing rain, though. probably a good idea to keep an umbrella handy just in case. good morning, i'm rosemary connors. >> i'm vai sikahema. some folks will get rained on and others won't. we're interested to find out who gets it who doesn't. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert forecast. >> nobody is getting it this morning. it's this afternoon that we'll likely see showers and thunderstorms pop up. cape may will stay clear of the storms during the day. we'll see sunshine and it will be into the low 80s for beach avenue where it's completely quiet and dry this morning. temperatures have been cooling down. right now, 69 degrees in philadelphia.
a little bit lower in atlantic city, millville, doylestown all in the low 60s and wrightstown is at 59 degrees. northeast philadelphia 65 degrees this morning. still falling at this hour. sunshine, we'll see a warmer day today. 76 degrees by 9:00 and at lunch time some dry and 83 degrees and cleeming. your hour-by-hour future weather when we come back to show you when the storms will likely move in. let's get a look at traffic with first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> on the 42 freeway around runnemede and the new jersey turnpike, everything moving along just fine. still a five-minute drive if you're headed northbound from 55 toward the walt whitman bridge. elsewhere in new jersey on greenwich township exit 17 still closed due to downed wires from last week's storm. follow detours throughout the area.
south golf road and west church road, a road obstruction in upper merion. we'll check on more drive times coming up. we continue to follow breaking news from overnight. a pregnant woman is clinging to life after being shot in the west oak lane section of philadelphia. >> we're learning from police that her unborn baby did not survive. nbc 10's matt delucia is live at einstein medical center where the woman is being treated, along with a second victim who is believed to be the baby's father. >> in addition to hearing shots fired, witnesses heard an argument at the time. philadelphia police are telling us this happened just after 10:00 last night on the 7300 block of thorren avenue on west oak lane. police got there. they found a 46-year-old man lie on the sidewalk. he was shot several times in both legs. officers also looked inside a small dodge suv that was out there.
they see that a woman was in the front passenger's seat and shes would shot in the lower back. >> she's still presently in critical condition. it's unknown whether or not she's going to survive her injuries. she was immediately taken to surgery due to the fact that not only she was shot but the fact that she was pregnant. >> she was also four months pregnant, as we mentioned, her unborn child did not survive. at this point, detectives had been talking with several witnesses who were in the area at the time. no motive has been found. they are still trying to figure out who shot these two and why. live at einstein medical center this morning, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. we have new information about breaking news that we're following out of indonesia. at least 20 people are dead after an indonesian air force plane crashed into a residential neighborhood. officials say the death toll could go up as more bodies are being pulled from the wreckage.
there were 17 military members on board that plane when it slammed into a neighborhood and some houses into that area. we are continuing to follow this breaking news story. as soon as we get another update we will pass it along. now to decision 2016 today new jersey governor chris christie is expected to add his name to the long list, the growing list of republican candidates running for president. christie is set to make anç announcement at livingston high school in essex county where he served as class president. he'd become the 14th republican seeking the gop presidential nomination. nbc's matt nbc's matt lauer will have the first interview with governor kroit after chris christie after the announcement. christie would become the 14th republican to announce a run at the white house.
four democrats have thrown their hats in the ring hillary clinton, bernie sanders, martin o'malley and lincoln chafee. this morning donald trump is threatening to sue nbc after the broadcast comments cut ties had with him after his controversial comments about mexican immigrants. last week univision said it was cancelling its coverage of the pageants. nbc was looking for a new host for "celebrity apprentice" because of trump's presidential bid. >> nbc's stance on immigration is very weak very weak on immigration. i'll be suing univision. maybe i'll be suing nbc, too. we'll have to see. >> the network issued a statement about dropping trump which reads in part at nbc, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. comcast nbc universal is the parent company of nbc 10.
we have new information this morning. a delaware county man has been cleared of the most serious charges against him after being accused of causing a crash that killed a teenager. a jury acquitted jonathan vanderhorst of homicide by vehicle but did find him guilty of dui. the crash happened last year in clifton heights, delaware county it killed dante desimone. he was a freshman lacrosse player at newman university.t- high school. two events will give the community a chance to alearn how to help our veterans. two v.a. facilities are holding open houses. the first is on woodland avenue in philadelphia the medical affairs center. residents, community and corporate organizations are invited to learn how to better

luckily before it went up too far. officials say it could have been a deadly crash since the driver was distracted. >> and the individual was coming back towards west palm and didn't see the bridge coming down. it was suspected that guy was messing with his gps. >> wow. lucky. the driver was cited for reckless driving. the bridge was closed for about five hours yesterday as crews repaired the broken traffic arm. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> we're getting a dry start this morning. that may be changing this afternoon. the temperature now 69 degrees in philadelphia. that's warmer than yesterday. a little bit more humidity. it's not going to be oppressive humidity today. you'll feel the difference. tracking some showers in central pennsylvania. those are the showers that will be moving in mainly during the afternoon hours. for reading, allentown lancaster, you might see showers later this morning. it's this afternoon, these
showers really get going, heavier downpours moving through bucks, montgomery and chester county and into delaware and new castle counties as well. that's 1:00 in the afternoon. the showers likely to avoid the shore today during the day that is. this afternoon, 72 degrees for the pocono mountains, low 80s, a little warmer today for allentown, quakertown and reading. a lot of sunshine to start with this afternoon that will see showers for doylestown trenton and mount holly as well. at the shore, sunshine 80s today. the showers are a possibility this evening but during the day i think rehoboth cape may and atlantic city will stay dry. the farther you go inland the more likely it is you'll see showers and thunderstorms developing. 86 degrees for philadelphia and swedesboro and low 80s for wilmington. seven-day forecast when i come back in ten. i'm still thinking about that guy in florida jumping the draw bridge. >> can you believe that.

the plan to privatize pennsylvania's state controlled wine and liquor store system is expected to move forward, despite opposition from governor tom wolf. the pennsylvania senate is expected to vote on a pair of bills that would eliminate state-run liquor stores. the bill would alove private licensees to take over the wine
and liquor in the start. more money is on its way to help train volunteer firefight firefighters firefighters. lawmakers are expected to announce $460,000 in grants from fema. that money will go to the delaware state fire school to improve training programs. it will be used for a new fire engine and equipment. also in delaware governor jack markell is expected to sign a series of bills focused on women's issues. the six soon-to-be laws range from equal pay for equal work women's rights when it comes to sexual assault, stalking and domestic violence. this is the second person in the state arrested just this month for allegedly conspireing with the terror group isis. 23-year-old seday made his first appearance in court. the fbi says he tried to convince witnesses to lie to investigators.
and a philadelphia mother pleaded not guilty last month. she was prepared to leave her children to become a martyr for the terrorist group isis. the first wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against amtrak in connection with the deadly train derailment in port richmond. the family of robert ux)gildersley filed the suit. he was sitting in front of the amtrak train when it crashed at more than 100 miles per hour. more than a dozen lawsuits have been filed over the crash. the man who got into a physical confrontation with a septa police officer while holding his daughter is telling his side of the story. this is a story you saw first on nbc 10. defense attorneys tell us that 20-year-old ellis smith paid a
full fare before getting on the market-frankford line. they say smith squeezed his way past the turn stylestile and did not pay the fare. >> he was willing to be cited right there on the train if that's what the officer wanted. i'm not sure what was going on in the officer's mind. he thought it was necessary to grab him by the throat and push him against the wall of the septa train. >> smith's attorney says he subpoenaed septa's surveillance video showing what happened at the fare counter before the investigation. a tour bus driver is off the job this morning after an nbc 10 viewer caught him texting while transporting dozens of passengers through new jersey. >> we looked into yep tours and found 25 unsafe driving violations within the past two years. passengers boarded the bus in center city saturday morning and say the driver was texting just after crossing the ben franklin bridge.
we showed this video to the owner of yep tours. even though texting is clearly unacceptable, other violations represent a small portion of the company's total trips. >> we do about 36,000 trips in the past two years. 20 violations on a matter of 36,000 trips in two years is a small number. >> now, the owner says some of his buss have cameras and some don't but also says that he's installing more cameras to prevent incidents like this. meanwhile, smoking rates in philadelphia are at an all-time low, according to a survey by public health management corporation. smoking is down 18% in adults and 30% among young people. recent city laws and programs are credited with the decline, including higher cigarette taxes and making bars restaurants and workplaces smoke-free. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> coming up on ten minutes before 57:00. the temperatures are coming down
but overall they're running a bit warmer this morning. live clear view looking across the delaware. no wet berth to worry about this morning, just a few scattered clouds in philadelphia and 69 degrees at this hour. we're heading into the 80s this afternoon. we just barely made it into the 80s yesterday. a nice clear view from center city from the comcast center, this is one that will see lots of sunshine to start with today. look what's on the way. clouds to the west will bring with it showers and some thunderstorms. scattered showers is what we're seeing right now in central pennsylvania and northwestern pennsylvania where there has been some thunder and lightning this morning. that's a possibility for our area this afternoon. with those storms come the risk of damaging winds and hail. more likely to happen in pennsylvania and northeastern maryland, most of delaware and into south jersey. we'll be watching the skies closely for those developing storms this afternoon. this morning it's temperatures that will be climbing. 68 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00 76 degrees and then
it's into the 80s as we go into the noontime hour topping out at about 85 this afternoon. keep an eye on the sky for showers and thunderstorms later today and again tomorrow with the high of 87. the temperatures start coming down later in the week a little bit, 84 thursday still a possibility of showers on friday. still a chance of a late-day shower or thunderstorm on saturday. i don't think everybody will see that on the fourth of july. that's good news there. 87 the high on the fourth, up to 88 sunday and monday. 4:51 and 69 degrees outside on this tuesday. i think the one perk of working early in the morning is that there is little to no traffic out there. >> jessica boyington, how's it looking out there. >> you don't have to face a lot if you're heading out the door before 5:30 in the morning or so. we have a few incidents to talk about. first, 422 around trooper road eastbound is right here where the hn9 n the morning hours. not any problems here with our
drive time. eight minutes headed eastbound toward 29. if you're heading out the door to the p.a. turnpike the same story there. 21 minutes or 23 if you're headed east or westbound up toward valley forge. in upper merion we're watching a road obstruction on south golf road and west church road. in philadelphia, bell monday the avenue, north and southbound both directions are being blocked at montgomery drive due to a downed tree. take belmont mansion drive to get through the area. we'll take a look at more drive times coming up during the 5:00 hour. we'll learn more about king the prussia mall's expansion project. it's scheduled to be finished by the fall of 2016. >> listen up clock is ticking and time is running out to apply to win free money. nbc 10 and nbc universal are giving away grants to local

could bring another round of showers and storms to our area today. good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm rosemary connors. thinking about a week ago when we had that major storm rip through the area. i'm sure a lot of folks have been glad to keep the rain away. we know it's coming back. let's get the details from meteorologist bill henley. >> this morning we're seeing some scattered clouds in the area, no showers just yet. those will wait mostly for this afternoon. you're starting to see a little bit of daylight as the sun is getting closer to sunri3##8r time about half an hour away from that. clouds illuminated in the pocono mountains. that's the view from the french manor. we're watching for showers, none in the immediate philadelphia area. in the pocono mountains, those clouds are producing light, scattered showers. heavy downpours are a possibility this afternoon. right now, 68 degrees in philadelphia. we're heading to the 80s this afternoon. jessica boyington is standing by with a look at your traffic this mo
