could bring another round of showers and storms to our area today. good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm rosemary connors. thinking about a week ago when we had that major storm rip through the area. i'm sure a lot of folks have been glad to keep the rain away. we know it's coming back. let's get the details from meteorologist bill henley. >> this morning we're seeing some scattered clouds in the area, no showers just yet. those will wait mostly for this afternoon. you're starting to see a little bit of daylight as the sun is getting closer to sunri3##8r time about half an hour away from that. clouds illuminated in the pocono mountains. that's the view from the french manor. we're watching for showers, none in the immediate philadelphia area. in the pocono mountains, those clouds are producing light, scattered showers. heavy downpours are a possibility this afternoon. right now, 68 degrees in philadelphia. we're heading to the 80s this afternoon. jessica boyington is standing by with a look at your traffic this morning from the first alert traffic center.

good morning, jessica. >> bill we finally have good news on the vine street expressway that ongoing construction is cleared for the morning and right on time at 5:00 a.m. you can see if you're headed westbound towards the schuylkill expressway, everything moving along just fine. the eastbound lanes are open currently as well. as for the drive times going into philadelphia from 95 southbound woodhaven road to the vine 12 minutes. out in chestnut hill we're watching an accident turned into an accident investigation scene on germantown avenue that's closed east and westbound. both directions. between bells mill road and northwestern avenue. take stenton avenue to get on by. we'll have more drive times coming up in the next ten minutes. breaking news from fighting for her life after she was shot in philadelphia's west oak lane neighborhood. her unborn child did not survive

the shooting. nbc 10's matt delucia is live at einstein medical center where the woman is being treated along with the second victim who is believed to be the father. you learned there are witnesses to the shooting what more can you tell us? >> vai, detectives have been talking with witnesses these past several hours, trying to get better leads on who may have done this and why. this happened just after 10:00 last night on the 7300 block of thuron avenue, that's west oak lane. police arrived to find a man on the sidewalk, shot in both legs. they then saw a woman in a small suv. she was shot in the back. her unborn child did not survive. police are hoping that witnesses can point them in the right direction. >> the witnesses not only heard

four or five shots, they heard some sort of argument prior to the schatz being fired. we're not sure at this time what the motive is. it's an investigation in progress. >> and the man we're told is stable here at einstein. the woman is critical. police are telling us the only description at this point of those suspects that they're looking for, possibly two men with a dark complexion fleeing in an unknown direction. not a whole lot to go on. as of now, those two surviving victims have not been able to talk with investigators. so this investigation still continues. at this point it's unclear if that woman will even survive. live in einstein this morning, matt delucia nbc 10 news. new video into nbc 10 of breaking news we are following. this is in indonesia where at least 20 people are dead after an indonesian air force plane crashed into a residential neighborhood. officials say the death toll could go up as more bodies are pulled from the wreckage. so far, there were 17 military

members on board this plane when the plane smashed into houses in a residential area. we continue to follow this breaking news. as information comes into the newsroom, we'll be sure to bring it to you. >> political analysts can stop speculating. today, new jersey governor chris christie is expected to announce he will run for president. katy zachry is live at the statehouse with more on what to expect from christie today. >> reporter: governor christie has a big announcement planned for later this morning. it will take place around 11:00 inside the livington high school gym where he graduated. the governor alluded to this big announcement during press conference and on social media over the last few days. he also has a new website, paid for by chris christie for president. political analysts say christie joining the race is no surprise. he's been spending time in new hampshire lately the state which holds the country's first primary. christie will be the 14th

hillary clinton, bernie sanders, martin o'malley and lincoln chafee. hillary clinton received some campaign support from new jersey rocker jon bon jovi yesterday. he and his wife hosted an evening with hillary in red bank monmouth county last night. this is video of her walking into the fund-raiser. bon jovi performed. corey booker was in attendance so did patterson. he tweeted this photo of clinton speaking at the event. an off hitch-duty police officer is injured. he crashed into a fence and a tree and his suv flipped over. rescuers had to cut through the roof of the car to free him. investigators are trying to figure out what exactly caused the crash. and this morning, philadelphia police are look for the killer who murdered an 85-year-old woman by bludgeoning

her and slashing her throat. regina brunner's son found her body inside her mount arie home yesterday morning. the home was not ransacked but brunner's car was gone. detectives are looking for the vehicle, a toyota corolla. >> it's very upsetting to see even in the safest neighborhoods that somebody like this can happen. >> it's terrible a defenseless 58 85-year-old woman. >> this morning, brunner's son is helping police with the investigation. the pennsylvania state trooper who was shot and killed during an ambush outside his barracks last year will be honored with an exit on interstate 84. the blooming grove exit in pike county will be renamed after corporal bryon dickson. governor tom wolf is expected to sign a bill that would make the renaming official. according to prosecutors, shooting suspect eric frein killed corporal dickson before

leading police on a 48-day manhunt. frein has pleaded not guilty. today, philadelphia mayor michael nutter will introduce the commission ersers. advocates want funds for pre-k extended to everyone. the deadline for pennsylvania's $30 billion budget proposal is due at midnight with less than 24 hours to go senate republicans are gearing up to vote on spending plan. and governor tom wolf is already threatening to veto it. republicans want to balance the budge wet no new taxes. instead they want the influx of cash to come from selling state-controlled liquor stores. wolf wants to raise the sales in income tax while cutting the property tax. he also wants to impose a new tax on natural gas drillers to help pay for public education.

meanwhile, in delaware, lawmakers are preparing for a marathon session today. a $3.9 billion general fund still needs a vote as did a capital spending plan. it proposes less money for volunteer fire companies, county and local governments could also lose state dollars. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> nine minutes after 5:00. we're holding at 69 degrees. we are already tracking some showers. not in the immediate area but they're not that far away. they'll be heading into parts of the area during the day today. those showers could bring along strong storms just for parts of the area this afternoon. fourth of july forecast may be changing a bit for the better. right now, 65 degrees in reading. philadelphia, some scattered clouds, no sign of rain drops yet. 68 degrees and completely in the clear, being reported at cape may at the airport. beach avenue clouds overhead.

that's a live view from the marquis de lafayette hotel. it will be low 80s at the shore today. a nice warm day. beautiful beach day. i think the showers avoid the shore. different story for philadelphia and areas north and west. these are showers that are tracking it. thunderstorms, too, in northwestern pennsylvania. it's a line of showers that will be making progress moving towards the area. at that hour we could see spotty light showers in the allentown area moving through reading, the heavier weather will be off to the north and west at that hour. as we go into the early afternoon hours, this is when we could start seeing heavy downpours, possibly damaging winds roll through with thunderstorms. the threat will mainly stay farther north and west. 3:00 this afternoon and into the evening hours. the best chance of seeing stronger storms will be farther to the north and west for the allentown and reading area. philadelphia will be a warm day today. we could see spotty showers, bring the temperatures down by 6:00 this evening into the upper 70s. neighborhood by neighborhood

forecast, 80s for allentown, reading and quakertown. we'll be watching for the storms developing this afternoon. a little less likely to see the activity in mt. holly, trenton, doylestown, into the 80s today. right around 80 degrees at the shore for atlantic city and rehoboth. a little bit warmer in cape may. dry at the shore with lots of sunshine but go inland and farther inland you go, the better chance you have of seeing afternoon showers and thunderstorms. 86 for philadelphia 80 in westchester westchester, wilmington. a look at the weekend forecast for the fourth of july. we'll come back with the seven-day in ten minutes. >> thank you, bill. 11 minutes past 5:00. the drive times are favorable to those heading out the door now. >> beat the traffic, beat the morning rush. jessica boyington is keeping an eye out on the traffic cameras out there. >> we'll do a quick checkout on new jersey roads. route 73 in winslow township

near the atlantic city expressway. 73 looking just fine in both directions. no real problems or volume back up there. out on route 42 in new jersey as well northbound is typically where we see the volume start to increase. route 55 to the walt whitman bridge, a five-minute trip. downed wires on 295, greenwich township closing exit 17 harmony road. that's from last week's storm. we'll check in with 95 anv the schuylkill coming up. the power perrons persist one week later next one way last tuesday's storm has surpassed superstorm sandy. ahead in the next half hour we are checking in with every utility company in our area to find out if you may be owed something for the outages. plus medical marijuana in the classroom. we have new information about the bill to provide relief to students during the school day.

then i get a little bit tired ♪ ♪ of living off the taste of the air ♪ ♪ turn around, barry ♪ ♪ finally, i have a manly chocolatey snack ♪ ♪ and fiber so my wife won't give me any more flack ♪ ♪ i finally found the right snack ♪ ♪ ♪ a bill requiring new jersey schools to develop medical marijuana policies for students is under consideration by the state legislature. the bill was inspired by 16-year-old jenny barber of maple shade. she was diagnosed with severe epilepsy and uses cannabis oil as treatment. her mom has to pick her up at lunch time and drive her home to she could take her home. if this bill was approved she could stay at school and have

someone administer the drug. a state permit was received yesterday. patients will have to wait at least three months to buy anything. it will take that long for the crop to grow. and delaware's first medical marijuana dispensary just opened outside wilmington last week. about 100 people lined up outside first day compassion center. the dispensary is for patients 18 own older suffering seizures severe pain or other medical conditions. the confederate flag outside the statehouse in south carolina may soon come down. a new survey of state legislatures shows there's enough support to remove the flag from the grounds. two-thirds of the lawmakers said the flag should go. there is growing momentum against the confederate flag after the shooting that killed nine people at a black church in charleston. the suspect was pictured with the flag prior to the shooting. a fast-moving fire out west

continues to burn after torching more than 4,000 acres since sunday. a rain shower yesterday helped slow the flames a little bit. officials say the wind and the heat could still cause problems. the conditions there are ideal for wildfires and could not be worse for the crews that are fighting them as temperatures are in the triple digits. from our delaware bureau more money is on its way to help train volunteer firefighters. lawmakers are expected to announce $460,000 in grants from fema. that will will go to the delaware state fire school to improve training programs. it will be used for a new fire engine and equipment. a severe storm ripped through our region a week ago causing widespread power outages. in gloucester county there's still a few hundred customers dealing with the problem. >> we've lost between $500 to $800 worth of groceries. i haven't sat down to tabulate that because i've been more concerned, we have cracked roof

rafters, we have damage to the house. >> utility officials in south jersey tell us that the power outages from last week's storm have actually exceeded totals from hurricane sandy. acme markets is trying to lend a helping hand to those impacted by the recent storm. the grocery store chain is offering a special 5% coupon to help customers across the delaware valley replace any food that spoiled because of the outages. you'll find a link to print out that acme coupon on our website or get it by tapping on the nbc 10 news app. 5:20 this tuesday morning. sun is not quite up but it's light enough to see and get a check on traffic. >> it's probably starting to pick up. let's head to jessica boyington who has more in the first alert traffic center. >> starting to pick up a little bit. no real delays. we're on astbound right in here headed towards the center city area. no real problems, still a 12-minute drive time in total eastbound from the blue route up towards the vine street

expressway. a little bit of volume is gathering in the westbound lanes. 202, we're doing okay there as well. out in philadelphia we are still dealing with the downed tree on belmont avenue. it's blocking the north and southbound side around montgomery drive. take bell monday the mansion drive to get around that. you'll do just fine. chestnut hill, still watching an investigation scene on germantown avenue that's closing it on the east and westbound side between bellsville road and northwestern avenue. stay stenton avenue to get on by. we'll check in with mass transit coming up in the next ten minutes. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 19 minutes after 5:00. we have clouds that are following through the area. you can see them on this live view, from here at the nbc 10 studios. the clouds will thin out. we'll find up with enough sunshine, 68 to 80 today.

we're 4 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. the temperatures will be warming in the pocono mountains but we're already watching clouds and scattered showers in the mountains. that's lake wallenpaupack this morning. no sign of showers just yet for the immediate lake wallenpaupack area. these clouds allentown and philadelphia into upper chester, montgomery and bucks county, not producing any showers. different story for the brighter white clouds. those are scattered showers in central pennsylvania and parts of the area just getting light rainfall in the williamsport airy. farther to the southwest, these are storms rolling into southwestern pennsylvania. seen some thunder and lightning there. those storms a possibility for us this afternoon. the forecast is calling for a mostly cloudy start, 70 degrees at 7:00. at 10:00, still clouds around 778 degrees. we should get sunshine. at 1:00 that's when the temperatures will moveç into the 80s. that's when we'll be watching for showers and thunderstorms later today.

why with this morning's cnbc business news. good morning. >> hey, rosemary. good morning. the markets suffering their worst day of the year on monday. as investors react to greece's debt crisis the country could default on its debt today if it doesn't make a loan payment to the international monetary fund. a greek default likely won't hurt the u.s. economy as it's much stronger now than a few years ago and less than 1% of u.s. exports go to greece. most of greece's debt is held by european governments and the imf. private sector banks and individual investors aren't as exposed. wall street is poised to rebound, futures are higher aside from greece headlines, the markets look for data on home prices and consumer confidence. the dow dropping 350 points to 175796. the nasdaq slipping 192 to 4958. >> we'll all be watching wall street today. thank you, landon dowdy with

showers and storms will be back. good morning, welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm rosemary connors. >> and i'm vai sikahema. it is a little bit warmer. it will get warmer and i guess we'll get spotty rain here in philadelphia. you can see the sun coming up behind us. let's get right to bill henley with his first alert forecast this morning. >> we're starting to see clouds move through the area to start with. they're not going to be here all day. it will be in the 80s this afternoon, low 80s yesterday. there's a mostly cloudy view now. those clouds arriving in just the last few hours. with these first clouds no sign of wet weather. they're helping to keep temperatures warmer this morning. it's 65 in northeast philadelphia. wilmington is 69 degrees and 62 in trenton. the temperatures turn around as the clouds thin out as the day goes on. that's a mostly cloudy view from the comcast center. cloudy skies and 70 degrees at 7:00. clouds around at 10:00. at 1:00, the warmup into the middle 8
