nbc 10 breaking news. >> an international sports sensation is back on her home turf. u.s. soccer star carli lloyd arrived at the airport just a few hours ago. should he stay or should he go? there's an effort in new jersey to push christie out of office because he's now focused on winning the white house. we're tracking showers and thunderstorms today. some of them are moving into our
area this morning. it's 4:30. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm chris cato. another steam bath awaits you when you step out the door this morning. meteorologist bill henley is standing by with his first alert forecast and temps already climbing. >> 78 degrees at the nbc 10 studios. we don't have showers just yet but that will change later this morning. seeing showers and heavy downpours to the west. these showers are making slow progress. a fun rain drops falling in the pocono mountains this morning. the temperatures have been falling overnight. so slowly 70 degrees mt. pocono trenton at 74. look at the upper 70s for millville, philadelphia and northeast philadelphia both 79 degrees. hour by hour forecast calling for clouds and 77 degrees at 6:00. then back into the 80s at 9:00. by lunch time we could be looking at the first showers and this afternoon more than likely i'll have a look at your hour-by-hour future weather when we come back in ten minutes.
right now it's time to check in with first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> a lot of our majors quiet so far. no problems on the schuylkill this morning, the blue route is looking okay roadways in jersey okay as well. wissahickon avenue, no problems there. the burlington bristol bridge is dealing with ongoing construction and two lanes on the ben closed headed westbound into philadelphia. breaking news from overnight. carli lloyd comes home. crowds were not around to greet the captain of our world cup soccer team but based on what you're seeing, her fiance gave her a better welcome. >> the world cup's best player she won't have much time to put her feet up. matt delucia is live at philadelphia international airport where carli arrived a couple hours ago. matt? >> she is back but not for very long. she spent 42 days in canada
playing on the women's u.s. soccer team. as we mentioned she just got back a little after 1:30 this morning. there's the video again of her greeting her fiance after arriving. it was a little over 48 hours ago when the world watched her score a hat trick and help the u.s. women's team win that long-awaited championship against japan. we spoke with the burlington county native who told us what happened when she first got into the u.s. after the win. that first stop was in l.a. >> we got to l.a. right away straight away had the restaurant i eat at when i got there picked up the tab. life has definitely change for me. >> she is enjoying the celebrity status. it will continue. she's heading to new york where the city is planning to hold a parade for the women's soccer team. that is scheduled for friday at 11:00 a.m. there's also been rumors of a possible parade in her hometown of delran though nothing official as of yet. when will carli actually be able
to sit down and relax and maybe even take a vacation? we talked with her about that. i'll see you again at 5:30. live at philly international. matt delucia nbc 10 news. 4:34. 78 degrees outside. from our delaware bureau a suffolk county man, dustin drew was arrested on several heroin charges. look at what police say they found inside his home. their search revealed nearly a thousand bags of heroin plus marge math and suspected drug money. we're learning more about a cyber attack on internet gambling websites. investigators say a hacker shut down four of those site last week and threatened to create more trouble unless someone paid a ransom using the online currency bitcoin. no player money was stolen and everyone's personal information is safe according to the state of new jersey. authorities are investigating. a new accuser has come
forward against convicted child molester jerry sandusky. this could mean new charges against the former penn state assistant football coach. that new accuser will get his court in october. he claims sandusky abused him at a penn state football camp almost 30 years ago. a judge will hear arguments on the statute of limitations in that case. sandusky is serving a 30-to-60 year prison sentence for molesting young boys. an investigator appointed by the school found no violations by the university or the women's softball coaching staff. two former players filed lawsuit against st. joe's and the head coach. the students claim they were harassed forced to drink alcohol and engage in sexually demeaning acts. the lawsuits are still pending. the school canceled the team's last three games of the season after the allegations surfaced. it is about to cost more green to be a blue hen. the university of delaware announced that tuition is going up for the coming school year.
it includes a $178 hike for in-state students and a $728 increase for out-of-state undergrads. it is one of the smallest hikes in more than 30 years which brings the total tuition fees room and board to 23, with 350 for delaware residents, 43,250 for out of staters. governor christie signed a bill for cooper to take over medical services from virtua. happening today, rowan university will reveal its expanded virtual reality center. that facility offers a unique environment where teams can conduct cutting edge research. the original facility opened in 2008. now it's been expanded. officials say students and

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 4:39. it is steamy outside and it is a warmer morning, too. we're tracking showers, they're not in the area just yet but they're moving through pennsylvania. showers this morning potential thunderstorms this afternoon could bring heavy downpours. enough moisture in the atmosphere we could see localized flooding in those areas that have poor drainage. right now it's dry and 75 in doylestown. philadelphia is just a grae shy of 80 degrees. and in the upper 70s for much of south jersey. right now it's dry. this is a live view from the comcast center.
clouds are starting to move in already. with the clouds will come this line of showers. it's a slow mover but it's beginning to be moving in this morning. heavy downpours right through central pennsylvania right now. the showers, the heavy downpours, those will be lighter. it will not be all thunderstorm activity. the umbrellas will likely be going up in the allentown area later this morning. hour by hour future weather shows lots of clouds by 10:00. you can see a few spots on the future cast radar at that hour 78 degrees at 10:00 for reading and lancaster and heavier downpours at 1:00 in the afternoon. still according to this commuter model, farther north and west as the temperatures climb well into the 80s today. not as hot as yesterday but with the high humidity it will feel similar similar. 73 in mt. pocono low 80s for reading. quakertown, 85 trenton, 86
mt. holly and showers arriving later this morning for doylestown. the possibility of thunderstorms, vineland and dover. look at rehoboth 88 degrees today. and not into the 90s today. showers and thunderstorms will be around just in time to knock the temperatures down a little bit. 86 for philadelphia, 85 in wilmington and swedesboro hit 85 this afternoon. there's more heat and humidity on the way. we have the seven-day forecast when i come back in ten. >> it is muggy this morning, bill. thank you for that. 4:41 now. let's get a check of the highways and byways. >> we're doing a big jersey check. 295 around the black horse pike we have a work zone. a few lanes being lost. follow the signs throughout the area. southbound where typically we see the volume in the morning hours, from 38 to this point, a 13-minute trip. egg harbor city we are watching an accident scene around 563.
the right lane is closed, again for repairs. glassboro, new jersey, watching 322 as well which is closed in both directions. take carpenter street to get by the area. mass transit, no problems or delays for new jersey transit, septa or the patco speed line. speaking of driving, if you drive the pennsylvania turnpike, get ready to pay more next year and years after that. tolls will increase 6% starting in january. they also said tolls will go up between 3% and 6% every year until 2044. officials said the higher tolls will help repay loans for road work projects. chris christie is running for president while he's still governor. >> now some new jersey lawmakers want that to change. next, a legal push to get christie out of office. not just for police some teachers are getting ready to add body cameras to their every day wardrobe.
just about 4:45 and 78 degrees outside already this morning. the south carolina house of representatives will have their final say in whether the confederate flag will continue to hang outside the state's capitol building. the senate overwhelming voted to remove the flag. lawmakers continue the debate today. the bill has to go through three separate readings in the house just as it did in the senate. a feign aal vote could happen tomorrow. a law enforcement source says the gun used in that murder on a popular san francisco pier belonged to a federal agent. he pleaded not guilty in court yesterday. he's an undocumented immigrant who's been deported back to mexico five times. prosecutors say he shot and killed a 32-year-old woman last week as she was walking along the pier. sanchez told two tv stations that he found the gun wrapped in a shirt on the pier and he said the gun accidentally went off in his hands. a brush fire gutted a church in los angeles last night. look at this. it started out as a small brush fire on the side of the highway.
then the flames jumped to the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints. no one was inside the church. subway has suspended its relationship with jared fogel as federal agents raided his home as part of a child porn investigation. they left with several computers. he became subway's spokesperson after losing nearly 250 pounds by regularly eating their sandwich. he also started a foundation to combat childhood obesity. subway says the raid is likely linked to a former employee at that foundation. an iowa school district is taking major steps towards making sure students and parents are treated fairly. >> listen to this. next year 13 body cameras will be given to principals and assistant principals to record their interactions. officials made that decision after accusations surfaced that an administrator kicked the
student. the cameras cost $8500 each. officials insist the cameras will improve their schools. >> we want to make sure we are treating students and parents with dignity, honor and respect. this is a way to check ourselves. >> right now, officials say the policy for reviewing video is still being worked out. the burlington school district is among the first in the nation to wear the body cameras. 4:47. now to decision 2016. two state lawmakers in new jersey think governor chris christie is spending too much time away from new jersey while he campaigns for president and they want to change that. the state senators plan to introduce a bill that will require any governor to resign if he or she runs for president. a "new york times" article found that he was out of the state a
good portion of the time. >> the bill is being called silliness by some. even if it's passed governor christie would have to sign it into law. >> this seems to happen every day now. another shark sighting. a viewer showed us this video of a shark that came ashore at the 36th street beach. experts say it's a sand bar shark. this comes a day after a couple other shark sightings. the first one happened monday in margate, another one later in avalon. no one was injured in any of those incidents. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> the temperatures have been coming down overnight. but very slowly. it's a warm muggy start. it is dry but this afternoon we'll likely see rain coming down. the first showers could arrive this morning. 79 degrees in philadelphia.
still seeing a southwesterly wind at philadelphia international. that's humid air coming in to play. it's dry at blue mountain. we have a couple lights on. no sign of showers there yet. the showers are not far away. 74 degrees in trenton, wrightstown is 74. we should be in the 60s at this hour this time of year. reading at 76 blue bell is 77. that's 2 degrees cooler than last hour. the numbers are coming down a bit. still quiet warm. newark is 76 along with the airport and atlantic city and millville, 76 degrees. dry right now for wilmington philadelphia and trenton. but the showers and possible thunderstorms are coming in with this line of clouds. that's a old front that's going to come into the area and stall. so it's not just today that we'll see the possibility of showers and thunderstorms but it's also tomorrow. the forecast calling for showers, thunderstorms and temperatures into the upper 80s for both today and tomorrow.
steamy conditions both days but then once that cold front comes through, we get a break, the humanity comes down. the temperatures a bit lower, too, friday afternoon, up to 87 grows. a comfortable start on saturday. but a sunny and hot day, high of 91 degrees saturday into the 90s again for monday. sunday and monday and with those temperatures on monday the high humidity, we could see showers and thunderstorms both monday and tuesday. >> all right, bill ten minutes before 5:00 right now. early usually quiet, construction is getting out of the way. let's see what the roads lack like right now. >> nbc 10's first alert for traffic reporter jessica boyington is checking things out on our cameras. >> our majors are good to far. light with volume not a lot of construction projects still out there, 95 around broad street. moving along just fine. these are the southbound lanes right there. headed toward the center city area. southbound from woodhaven road
to the vine street expressway, a 13-minute trip. 23 minutes headed westbound or eastbound from route 1 up toward valley forge. area bridges, the burlington bristol will be closed until 5:00 a.m. due to ongoing construction. as for the ben two lanes blocked heading wn into philadelphia. no problems or opening on the tac pal. >> there's a reception for jenny niny bagonie. philadelphia is con stanley working to become more biken fromly but that's tough if the streets are not safe. next, the most dangerous places to bike and what's being done to improve safety. and the power of the meter maid. just how many tickets the parking authority has written up and the areas drivers should really avoid.
six minutes before 5:00 and 78 degrees outside. a milestone in the use of one drug in south jersey camden county police have now saved 100 lives using narcan. narcan is the drug that can help overdose victims recover. officers first began using narcan a little more than a year ago. meantime a new cdc report shows heroin is increasingly the drug of choice for a growing number of americans. usage has increased dramatically among men, women, most age groups, all income levels. after people become hooked on prescription pain killers, they often turn to heroin. has the same effect but it's cheaper and easier to get. >> whites black and hispanic, low, middle and high income. we're seeing heroin diffusing throughout society but we can turn this around. >> the cdc says the answer is more education for doctors to help them figure out which
patients truly benefit and which are at risk of abusing the drug. the bicycle coalition of greater philadelphia is trying to make streets safer for bikers. 5th street and olney avenue there were 19 crashes from 2013. third is broad and girard avenue. the group hopes this list will help persuade the city to adopt a vision zero policy a push to reduce bicyclists and pedestrian issues and deaths by 50% by the year 2020. eventual goal of course would be zero deaths. >> i think it's possible to do that by having a coordinated strategy among all agencies within the city that will help bring down those crashes. >> now, other cities like new york and san francisco have cut traffic accidents by implelment
implementing these vision zero policies like more red light cameras and reduced speed limits. now to an nbc 10 digital exclusive, 4.9 million. that's how many tickets the philadelphia parking authority issued over the past three years. and tens of thousands of them were issued on the same few blocks. headhouse square on society hill. more than 24,000 tickets were placed on wind she'lls along that block. you can tap on the nbc 10 news app right now to find out what other blocks are ticket hot spots. it's a story from our partners at the philadelphia business journal. this was actually an environmental protest. hundreds of moms and their kids were on capitol hill tuesday holding a play-in, a family friendly protest focused on climate change and air pollution. it was organized by the group moms clean air force. >> families of pennsylvania have

just cleared punxsutawney moving through central pennsylvania. those heavier downpours with the possibility of thunderstorms this afternoon. hour-by-hour forecast calling for a warmup. 77 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00 we'll be back in the low 80s. 84 degrees with a chance of scattered showers at noontime today. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast that's when i come back in ten minutes. first, let's phone out what's happening on the roads with jessica boyington. >> ongoing construction for the vine street expressway. every day and for quite some time we've had the east and westbound sides closed between broad and the schuylkill expressway. with that ongoing construction should be clearing around 5:00. we have some proof of that. these are our cameras around the schuylkill expressway at the vine. you can see police activity still there on the scene but cleared out of the roadway. that's good news. the drive time on the actual
