killed a bicyclist in philadelphia's hunting park neighborhood. police are gathering evidence and say the driver could face charges. philadelphia is hosting the national naacp convention. that event attracting big name speakers including the president tomorrow. today, though it's senator bob casey's turn at the podium. the weather will cooperate for those attending the convention in philly. we'll see partial sunshine later today. storms are brewing for tomorrow. it's 4:30 and 73 degrees outside. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today. i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm chris cato. yes, we've officially made it to monday that annoying weekend is out of the way and now we can focus on what's important, the forecast. meteorologist bill henley is standing by with that. it was a great weekend weatherwise. >> the nice weather continues for your monday activities. temperatures dropped into the 60s and 70s right now. 68 for pottstown and doylestown. at 74 degrees in philadelphia international, south

philadelphia, northeast philadelphia in the lower 70s to start with. we'll warm into the 80s this afternoon. not quite as hot as yesterday. flag is at rest. virtually no wind around. most areas calm and most areas see sunshine too. 72 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00 77 and 84 degrees at lunch time with the winds staying light during the day. just a 5 mile-an-hour breeze blowing around lunch time today. i'll show you how warm it gets in your neighborhood. i'll go neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> that's true bill. we are doing okay especially on most of the majors, right around cottman avenue. first, for most of our rush hour morning, we can see about a 12-minute trip headed southbound from woodhaven road up towards the vine street expressway. average speeds of 70 miles an hour. that's a little bit fast.

out in west norriton the road is blocked, whitehall road and williams way. police activity on the scene as well as an accident on the pa turnpike northeast extension northbound approaching lansdale that's blocking the left-hand lane. up on 422, we'll head through montgomery county eastbound from 29 still an eight-minute trip. no problems there. average speeds. we'll check in with mass transit coming up in the next ten minutes. 4:32. happening today, we expect to learn if charges will be filed against a driver who hit and killed a man on the bike in the hunting park section of philadelphia yesterday. nbc 10's matt delucia is live at police headquarters with more on what we know about this case. fill us in matt. >> the woman who hit the bicyclist is not in police custody right now. she was questioned yesterday. charges could be filed once the d.a. gets the case. this happened after 1:00 yesterday afternoon.

the woman was trying to pass another car on north 2nd street. police say she went into the wrong lane and hit the bicyclist. he was rushed to temple hospital but died about a half hour later. police say the woman initially drove away but they did find her not far away at 7th and atlantic streets. >> just a shame, man, because if you stop you may get a chance to help a person and save their life, you know. it's just a tragedy that things like this happen. it's more and more every day you hear about it. >> reporter: the neighbors are visibly upset about this. as we await word on any formal charges, police say as of last night they were talking with that driver trying to get more details about what happened trying to figure out why she didn't stop immediately after hitting that man. as we get more details, we'll pass them along. for now, at police headquarters, matt delucia nbc 10 news. 4:33 73 degrees outside.

philadelphia police robbers entered tria cafe appearing to show a fake gun made off with four bank bags filled with about $1,500 in cash. a camden man who just celebrated a berth day on saturday is the person who died yesterday in the delaware river. rescue crews found a man's body at the bottom of the river close to national park, gloucester county. the man was on a boat with a friend and jumped in to swim but had some trouble. officials have in the yet identified the man publicly but friends and family tell us he is chris allen of camden and he just turned 46 on saturday. an autopsy is scheduled for the 23-year-old man found dead in an alleyway in atlantic city yesterday morning.

police responded to reports of a man lying in an alleyway off south tennessee avenue where they found justin turry of sickerlerville. happening today, pennsylvania senator bob casey will be a featured speaker at the naacp convention at center city. members heard from the national chairwoman yesterday. they also heard from the baltimore prosecutor who made national headlines with the handling of the freddie gray case. >> i'm a proud member of the national association for the advancement of colored people. >> that's marilyn mosby. she gained national fame after she brought charges against six police officers after gray died in custody. advocates for older adults will continue their conference. the national association for

area agencies on abling is meeting at the marriott downtown. hundreds of representatives are discussing the challenges facing older americans and their caregivers. some include late-life domestic violence and issues related to lgbt seniors. conference officials say they'll be watching closely president obama's remarks later today. he's hosting the white house conference on aging. it's the 80th anniversary of social security. in montgomery county police are searching for the robber who held up a convenience store over the weekend. it happened saturday night at the getty gas station mini mart in abington. police say the man told the clshg clerk he had a gun police say the robber wore cover alls and a hat that hid most of his face. two intruders broke into a north philadelphia home and took off after a women nearby started

praying. we're told the men got into the victim's apartment on ridge drive through an open door on saturday night. the armed men demanded drugs and money. when the victim said she didn't have either the suspects began to pistol whip here. a witness began praying out loud and both suspects took off without taking anything. breaking this news overseas -- there. >> appears to be an agreement with greece's financial crisis. we're tracking developments from the talks in brussels. there is pears to a breakthrough at the iran nuclear talks. we expect negotiators to make a big announcement later today. what's in that potential deal coming up. clouds are breaking right now, 73 degrees at 4:37. a warm day ahead and we're tracking our next round of showers.

overhead. the wind is calm this morning. the temperatures have dropped down into the 60s and low 70s. that's to start with. we'll see a warm summer day, into the 80s this afternoon. humidity is on the low side, 61%. the wind in knost philadelphia is calm. watching dry conditions at the shore, there are a few sprinkles moving through new castle county and delaware. those will be fizzling and the chance of a shower coming to an end quickly this morning as the clouds thin out. 86 this afternoon for allentown, middle 80s in reading and quickertown. nothing but sunshine and a few scattered clouds for norristown and trenton. mt. holly 80s. 85 for atlantic city and middle 80s in cape may. low 80s for dover and rehoboth with partly sunny skies and sunshine will warm temperatures into the low 80s for westchester and wilmington. look at drexel hill and philadelphia into the upper 80s today. dry conditions today, a good

4:44. let's get you video we just got in here. breaking news out of camden. house fire this morning. a firefighter was injured while fighting this fire at a two-story building on newton avenue. now there were initial reports of people being trapped inside but crews searched that building and found no one. no word yet on what caused the fire. we do understand the

firefighters' injury was minor, though. more breaking news from overseas here. a financial bailout for greece is now a done deal. eurozone leaders and greek ministers reached an agreement at a summit in brussels just a short time ago. the summit chairman says the bailout program includes serious reforms and financial support. without that deal greek banks risked running out of money and the nation may have dropped the euro currency awe toe. not everyone is thrilled by the resolution of this greek financial issue here. some people took to twitter to blast euro leaders and their rules for helping greece. they say propose the tax hikes and pension cuts amount to a coup. 4:45 on this monday morning. a suicide car bomb blast killed at least 26 people near a military base in eastern afghanistan. the bomb went off at a

checkpoint that afghan forces were overseeing. the hospital reports those killed were civilian. happening now, pope francis on his way back to rome. he celebrated ma is in paraguay yesterday. hundreds of thousands of people attended the service. during his homily the pope urged people to share with those less fortunate. sources say negotiators at the iran nuclear talks will announce today they have reached a historic deal. the announcement would cap off nearly a decade of diplomacy that would curb that country's atomic program. secretary of state john kerry said yesterday that major issues needed to be resolved but he

felt positive. >> i think we're getting to some real decisions, so i will say, because we have a few tough things to do i remain hopeful. >> diplomats say once they reach a deal leaders at the talk would review the final agreement. we now know that the former defense chief in north korea was executed for disloyalty to the country's leader, kim jong-un. a spokesman says that move confirms that the former leader of the army of the north was killed. british prime minister david ram cameron says he wants his nation's military to invest more in drones and elite troops. cameron is visiting the home of the reaper drones. british warplanes have struck

targets in iraq. cameron suggested the mission could be expanded. james holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. holmes is accused of opening fire inside a packed movie theater 3 years ago. he could face the death penalty if convicted. in washington state, crews are looking for a private plane that never reached its defendant in addition. the aircraft left montana saturday afternoon, was due to land three hours later. searchers are focusing in on an area where a phone signal went out late saturday night. 75 residents are looking for a new place to live after their apartment complex near the universal of central florida

went up to flames. three people are dead and two officers injured after an ambush attack near chicago yesterday morning. police and paramedics responded to a medical call at a house in river forest illinois. when officers got there, a man with a shotgun opened fire from inside the home. the gunman had killed a man and woman inside the home before they arrived. the two officers were not seriously hurt. a homicide unit tuscaloosa alabama is investigating what caused a man to die after being pepper strayed by police. the man ran from an apartment friday night. when officers approached him, when he resisted arrest, they say they pepper sprayed him. that's when the man collapsed and died. bill cosby's art collection will live on. about a third of the

to a dwarf planet status but pluto will have its return to sunshine. the spice craft sent back these images on thursday. they were taken more than 3 million miles away from pluto. the journey is nine years in the making and promises to be the biggest planetary unveiling in a quarter century. this from our nbc 10 delaware news bureau. a possible new clue in the rehoboth beach lifeguard stand mystery. take a look at this photo of a lifeguard stand spotted in the ocean near fenwick ilan. that's further south from rehoboth beach where police say someone stole seven stands last week we're told the coast guard is trying to recover this stand. each stand weighs about 500 pounds. today marks 30 years since philadelphia hosted what many say is the greatest concert ever, live aid.
