nbc 10 news starts now. today, pennsylvania's attorney general is expected to turn herself in to authorities on conspiracy and perjury charges. what's next for kathleen kane when she surrenders? we are in store for a beautiful weekend. here's a live look over center city. a little bit cool out there. just under 70 degrees. we'll welcome in. should be a comfortable day for this time of year. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today. i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:00 on this saturday. let's get right to that weekend weather now with first alert meteorologist michelle grossman. >> you said it looking nice outside. i feel like we're lucking out in the weekend department in terms of the weather.

another nice one today. we'll see sunny skies, low humidity temperatures in the mid-80s. here's a live look outside. we're waking up to mostly clear skies out there. temperatures cooler compared to this time yesterday, 10 degrees cooler in millville. 4 degrees cooler in pottstown. that's mainly putting us in the 50s and 60s, close to 70 degrees in philadelphia. that's pretty much the hot spot. cooler to the north and west, 51 in mt. pocono. temperatures mainly in the 50s and 60s to the south and east as well. 62 in atlantic city 68 in dover, delaware. for your saturday plan on a good one. mostly sunny skies, 71 by 8:00. by lunch time we're looking at 81 still low humidity and by 3:00, 84 degrees. breezy at the beaches. rip tides, current issue there, we'll talk more about that at the beaches. pocono looking great. we look at that forecast and your seven-day forecast coming up.

new from overnight, a teenager shot in trenton is in critical condition. this happened around 1:00 this morning on monmouth street. the male victim suffered a chest wound. we're, woulding to get more information from police on this shooting. as soon as we have it, we'll pass it along. today pennsylvania's top cop will find herself on the other side of the law. attorney general kathleen kane is expected to surrender to the montgomery county sheriff to face charges and allegations that she leaked grand jury testimony. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at the courthouse in norristown. fill us in on today's proceeding. >> rosemary, attorney general kane will come here around 1:30 this afterand be processed on the fifth particular and have a video court arraignment with a judge in collegeville around 2:00 this afternoon. the montgomery county d.a. charged kane with leaking grand jury testimony in an attempt to embarrass two former staffers. court papers say kane was angry about a 2009 philadelphia

newspaper article critical of the a.g.'s decision not to file charges in another case involving several lawmakers. the suit alleges that anger was the basis for a plot to use her position and staff to enact revenge. attorney general kane maintained her innocence and says she will not step down from her elected post. coming up in the next hour or half hour i should say, you're going to hear from district attorney freeman here in montgomery county about this case. we'll have that for you coming up at the bottom of the hour. live in norristown, montgomery county jesse gary nbc 10 news. a scare in the air stopped a flight out of philadelphia from getting very far last night. we have video from inside the plan. a passenger sent us these images of sparks coming from the wing of an american airlines flight. the plane was flying from philadelphia to seattle. skyforce 10 was over the scene as the airbus 320 jet landed back at philly international after just 40 minutes in the air.

145 passengers were on board. nobody was hurt. the passengers got on another plane. federal authorities are now investigating. this morning, philadelphia police continue their search for two men who shot and robbed a bakery store owner. we first brought you this story as breaking news yesterday morning. the victim is in critical but stable condition. she was opening best cake kosher bakery at haverford and city avenues in overbrook around 6:00 yesterday morning when robbers shot her in the neck. it turns out this was the second time the bakery owner was robbed in just the past week. last friday, she fought off her attackers. her regular customers are in disbelief. >> it's devastating for us. it's devastating for the community. these things do not happen in overbrook park. they do not and they will not. >> investigators say surveillance cameras at the scene were pointed the wrong way so they need witnesses to come forward to help the investigation. police have new clues in the

case of an 11-year-old delaware county boy who went missing and was later found dead in darby creek. police say a tip call led them to an area off of glenmoore avenue in glenolden yesterday. they found laquan lattimore's bike and backpack. his body was found in the creek wednesday afternoon. before that he wasç last seen riding his bike monday in folcroft. the medical examiner ruled his death an accidental drowning but the boy's family wants more ns as about what led up to his death. a benefit today will help support local families who have experienced a stillborn birth. 26,000 babies are stillborn each year in the united states. today's walk will honor the memory of those children and raise money for stillbirth research. latifah ellis hamilton experienced this tragedy two years ago and is now working to help other local families. >> it is a memory of that day that she was born not

breathing. but my mission is to continue her life here on earth. >> latifa ellis-hamilton there talking about her daughter. the walk is at the elmwood park zoo in norristown. check-in begins at 9:00. all proceeds benefit programs and services much the star legacy foundation. if you'd like more information, to our website, nbc10.com or check out the nbc 10 news app. a ymca child care center in berks county is shut down as the state is investigating whether kids were in danger there. an automated message at the y berkshire center in wyomissing says the center is no longer providing child care. officials from the state department of human services issued an emergency removal order earlier to the center this week. in a statement they said several violations involve

incompetentence, negligence and misconduct. more than 100 people held on drug charges will go free. that's after a philadelphia judge overturned convictions tainted by allegations of police corruption. you may recall the six narcotics officers who went to trial for corruption. a jury acquitted them earlier this year but any evidence of corruption uncovered during the investigation can be used in court by any suspects the officers arrested. an assistant defender at the defender association of philadelphia tells nbc 10 that he's filed 1,400 petitions asking for new trials for suspects convicted in drug cases involving those six officers who were charged but later clear. so far 158 of those drug convictions have been tossed out. it's the largest single dismissal of drug convictions in philadelphia history by the way. it brings the total number in the scandal to more than 500. in other news irving fryar faces up to ten years in prison after he was convicted in a

mortgage scam. yesterday a jury found him, along with his mother, guilty of conspiracy and theft did iby deception. fryar played 17 seasons in the nfl, including three for the eagles. sentencing is set for october. as we prepare for the pope, we are taking a look at security for the papal visit. here's a live look at the ben franklin bridge which we have told you will be closed to cars during the visit next month. now the secret service is clearing the air, so to speak, about rumors involving the bridge closure. the agency says there will be security on the ben but no checkpoints, no airport-style searches and no metal detectors for those walking across the bridge from camden into philadelphia. for the papal weekend in late september. >> can't get every person out if there's going to be that volume of people that's not plausible. >> as for center city the secret service says the agency

will provide a list of items you will not be allowed to bring with you into the secure zone. when that list comes out, we will, of course, pass it along. septa is getting ready to hold a second lottery for special rail passes for the papal visit. the lottery will be on wednesday. it will be the same system septa used for regional rail passes. the passes now up for grabs are for the norristown high speed line and trolley routes 101 and 102. septa will notify the winners by e-mail next friday. the time right now is 5:09. a deadly typhoon batters taiwan and now it's on the move. the wicked weather has killed four. now the storm is churning across the ocean, headed toward a highly populated mainland. plus a hero dog saves her blind owner during a fire. how the pooch managed to contact emergency crews all on her own.

weather. >> a good saturday morning, i'm meteorologist michelle grossman. looking at another nice weekend, quite today. lots of sunshine, low humidity. temperatures pretty nice too. by this afternoon we are waking up to temperatures mainly in the 50s and 60s. a few cool spots this morning. 58 degrees in chester springs, 61 in wrightstown 62 in washington township. 61 in horsham. we're giving our air conditioners a break this morning, especially in mt. pocono, 51 degrees right now. 62 in reading, 57 in coatesville. you're waking up to 58 in oxford. even to the south and east, temperatures mainly in the 50s the 60s. 61 in mount holly 59 in mill 'ville 62 in woodbine and dover, 68 degrees. a nice day today. lots of sunshine low humidity temperatures very nice for this time of year. 83 to 86. the beaches we're looking at a windier day. breezy at the beaches, looking at a moderate to high risk of rip currents there. we'll talk more about that.

new this morning, a powerful typhoon is barreling toward mainland china after hitting taiwan with high winds and flooding rains. the storm killed at least four in taiwan and injured dozens more. fallen trees and debris cover the streets and almost 2 million homes are without electricity. back here in the u.s. president obama says wildfires out west are getting worse, mainly because of climate change. the president made that comment yesterday while signing a

conservation bill at the white house. he said global warming is sparking a longer and more intense wildfire season. the largest of the current wildfires is actually dying down a bit. crews say they have the rocky fire in northern california 50% contained. president obama said he's working to give firefighters more help. >> one of the things we're trying to work on with congress is making sure we are able to properly fund firefighting efforts. but also that we're engaged in the kind of conservation planning to ensure that we're preventing fires from happening in the first place. >> dry conditions have certainly added fuel to the wildfires in california montana, arizona and washington state. let's head to colorado where the convicted killer of the movie theater massacre will spend the rest of his life in prison without parole. >> we the jury do not have a unanimous final sentencing verdict on this count. we the jury understand that as a result the court will impose a sentence of life in prisonment

without the possibility of parole on this count. >> as you just heard, the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision on whether james holmes should get the death penalty. the lack of agreement means the judge will sentence holmes to life in prison at a hearing later on this month. the same jury convicted holmes of opening fire inside a suburban denver theater three years ago. he killed 12 people and injured 70 others in the attack. prosecutors argued that holmes methodically planned the massacre and deserved the death penalty but defense lawyers blame the assault on mental illness. only on 10 a blind woman whose house caught on fire is alive this morning thanks in large part to her dog calling 911. >> give me a kiss. >> nbc 10 was there last night when maria maria colon.

humidity, comfortable temperatures. we did that last weekend, we'll do it again. a nice day today and on sunday. very quiet in the weather department. we do have some things to talk about at the beaches. super saturday in store. we're looking at the beaches with a rip tide risk. you're going to jump into the water, plan on doing swimming in the ocean. you want to keep that in mind. saturday night plans, mostly clear skies, temperatures dropping back into the low 70s and then eventually the 60s. right now 69 in philadelphia winds out of the north at 6 miles per hour. winds out of the northeast and that will bring us that low humidity throughout the day. temperatures mainly the 50s, the 60s. cool start in some spots. 62 in reading, 69 in philadelphia. south and east we're mainly looking at the upper 50s to low 60s as well. 62 in atlantic city and 62 in glassboro. temperatures cooler than this time yesterday. really comfortable as you start out your saturday. a live look outside. we're still dark but we'll see

hero or villain? this cell phone video of a brawl involving a times square spider-man is raising that very question. witnesses say this fight all started when a man began heckling spidey and the masked man snapped. the guy on the receiving end of spider-man's punches tells a much different story. >> spider-man was harassing a lady and her child. he was telling her to give him tips. the lady said no.

he yelled at the lady. i stepped to him and said why do you want to do that to a female do it to me. >> new york city officials are calling for tough regulations for the characters after tourists reported being bothered for tips and even sexually harassed. time for sports. the phillies hot streak continues. last night against the padres, the phils belted four solo home runs to complete a comeback win in san diego. the game went to extra innings and cameron rupp hit a leadoff homer in the 12th to give the phils a 4-3 win. the first pitch tonight is at 8:40 against the padres. nick foles got guaranteed money with the rams. he signs a two-year contract extension that will pay him $24

million in addition to this year. the birds have been trying to get a deal done with sam bradford. sam may pass for now. sam says his knee has been feeling great after the five practices he's gone through. he's trying to get his timing down again. he hasn't played a real game in almost two years. so the first preseason game in eight days will be real big for him. >> it's crazy. it seems like just yesterday that i was in cleveland walking to the locker room. i thought this day would never come. here we are, a little over a week away. get out there and play real football. that's always exciting. >> until i'm able to get hit, you can't simulate when the pocket breaks down. you have to make a hard hitch up and scramble. i've been put in a few of those situations so far and i feel like my knee's held my own. >> that's good to hear. the eagles defense have given up the most passing yards over the last two seasons. they have a new secondary coach.
