that wind will stay light at noon time. we'll be close to 70 degrees and climbing at that hour. go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in 10 minutes. jessica boyington is watching your first alert traffic. >> we're on the roosevelt boulevard to stafrmt we're having no problems right around 17th street. our camera is stationed now. northbound or southbound we have no delays or problems as of yet. as we check the schuylkill expressway, you can see all lanes green, 13 minutes headed east, 11 minutes westbound, we've average speeds 61 miles per hour so people are definitely moving from the vine street expressway to the blue route no problem. mass transit no delays yet. when i come back we'll have more drive times. chris. >> on the subject of travel, if you are flying southwest or someone you know is, be sure to pack patience. >> because catching a southwest airlines flight might take a

while. they are having computer problems slowing down the check-in process including flights in and out of philadelphia. here is dan. >> reporter: it's a nightmare for the airlines and passengers. >> this is poor customer service, poor information. >> lots of people, lots of luggage, nobody knows where they are going or what they are doing. >> trouble began sunday morning. the airline described the problem as technical issues. won't say what caused the problem or when it will be resolved. the problem affected the carrier's website, mobile app, phone centers and airport check-in systems. southwest has been forced to check in some manually. that has caused long lines. some lines stretch for miles. >> the lines from where you have to start to where we are now it hasn't even finished, it's possibly about three miles. >> the airline has been forced to delay hundreds of flights. in los angeles, one traveler doesn't expect to catch a flight

suddenly caught fire. he said that fire is stilling investigated. they don't know what caused it. both members of the fire company i should rather say that members of the fire company and neighbors told us that lippincott will be dearly missed. >> the archdiocese is closing a bucks county church. it will shut its doors next month. officials announced yesterday citing high maintenance and repair costs of more than $1 million. the church merged with st. francisca breeny last year and served as the site since then. >> 4:34. cue the dramatic music. a game they had to have the eagles won with plenty to spare. the eagles and saints both needed this one. the birds broke it open in the third quarter scoring twice in 13 seconds. fletcher cox stripped drew brees there, recovered the fumble, cox had three sacks for the day.

utley for the next two games starting tonight. it said disciplining utley was the proper move. the dodgers confirm that utley will appeal the suspension so he could be in uniform tonight when l.a. visits new york. the mets released a statement that read we support the decision by major league baseball to suspend chase utley for two games and feel this was the appropriate course of action with the decision behind us the team and our fans can now focus on playing winning baseball. the dodgers issued a statement of their own, we stand behind chase utley and his decision to appeal the suspension issued by major league baseball. the annual golf outing is scheduled for the plymouth country club in montgomery county. the phillies and their alumni join the former catcher to help raise funds for those suffering from brain cancer, tumors and injuries. the foundation says he is doing well and his continuing battle with brain cancer. >> today is columbus day which mean there is is no mail delivery and most federal offices and courts are closed along with some banks. yesterday the annual columbus

19 minutes before 5:00. it's clear and cool to start with. a little bit of a chill in the air. going to be turning cooler later in the week today. we're starting out at 48 degrees in northeast philadelphia. that's a little warmer than yesterday. up by 3 degrees at this time. 40s for new jersey, wrightstown, millville in the low to mid 40s now and montgomery county. glenside is 51. look at blue bell, 53 degrees. we've seen light fog in the blue bell area. collegeville could drop in the 30s, gilbertsville, upper providence close to the upper 30s at this time. we're watching for fog. light fog in blue bell. it's lancaster that is reporting dense fog this morning. it won't last long. our skies nice and clear from the pocono mountains through philadelphia and the jersey shore. it's going to be another day filled with bright sunshine which means another quick

this story is developing. five coalition members dead after a military helicopter crashed at the nato base in kabul, afghanistan. five others were injured in the crash. we're told that it happened yesterday. british authorities say two of the victims belong to the royal air force. afghan security says the helicopter appeared to hit an observes balloon as it was trying to land. >> now to decision 2016. we're just a day away from the first democratic presidential debate. >> we're waiting to see if vice president joe biden will join that race. nbc's national correspondent tracie potts reports from washington. >> reporter: joe biden with family this weekend still pondering whether to hit the campaign trail. >> he is a decent guy, it's a difficult decision. he will make that for himself. >> even if he announces hours before tomorrow's debate the rules would allow him to participate. he supports the transpacific trade partner shxt martin o'malley joined bernie sanders and hillary clinton opposing it.

security. the president told an interviewer that criticism of clinton has been hyped because of politics. clinton used the server to conduct government business when she was president obama's secretary of state. federal investigations into the e-mail issue continue. it's 4:48. the move to change the mississippi state flag is picking up steam. hundreds marched and rallied outside the state capitol yesterday. activists want the emblem removed from the flag. supporters were there to counter what they call negative attacks. march organize ers want to chan the sense of shame it could portray. >> it's not about letting go of your history. it's having a flag and all feel proud of and not feel any sense of shame. >> the organizers want a similar outcome to that in south carolina where lawmakers voted to remove the confederate flag from the statehouse grounds. >> the founder of burt's bees

products could be facing a fight. she wants to donate tens of thousands of acres of woodland and millions for a park in northern maine. critics don't want the government intruding. supporters say a new park would bring hundreds of jobs to the area. >> look at this. more than a ton of unwanted fruits and vegetables turned into food for thousands of hungry people in greece. officials say most of that food would have been thrown out. yesterday's event raised awareness about wasting food. this is called feeding the 5,000. greek pensions have been cut as part of the austerity measures. free meals were welcome to some. >> food that is thrown away when there are so many that need it. especially this time when we have also the problems in athens. >> greece's debt crisis and the austerity imposed by lenders wiped out a quarter of greece's

a breeze in the pocono mountains at 8 miles an hour. a 3 mile wind at reading and 2 miles an hour barely moving in dover. the rest of the area is calm. you might see fog but you won't see activity here. the radar will be completely clear today. but that changes tomorrow. we're watching a fast-moving system that's in canada right now affecting portions of north dakota and minnesota. that will be arriving here tomorrow morning. first thing in the morning will be dry. the commute will likely be dry. we could see this line of fast-moving showers sweeping into philadelphia during the late morning hours. this is tomorrow at 10:00. some light rainfall will be moving through, could see a tenth to a quarter inch, the fast-moving showers pretty much done by afternoon. might see a few sprinkles north and west of 4:00. most of that activity later tomorrow morning. today, it's sunshine. bright sunshine like yesterday, nice and mild with a light southerly wind. we're in the low to mid 70s this

afternoon. and it will be a mild one tomorrow. 75 after morning low of 56, the showers coming through in the late morning hours, behind the showers it turns cooler for wednesday and thursday. both up to 66. it's thursday will be chillier in the morning. 46 degrees to start with and we'll be in the 40s, again for friday and saturday morning and look at sunday. a chill in the air, to start with 37 degrees. 57 degrees sunday afternoon. >> if route 422 takes you to or from work you may want to pay attention. >> jessica boyington is watching it for you. >> i have all good news, though, about 422. heading out the door no problem, you have to get to the schuylkill expressway from 422 you can see no problems here. this is actually the eastbound side toward the schuylkill expressway where the taillights are. eight minutes from 29 to the schuylkill expressway. these are our cameras around trooper road. so we're doing well. northeast philadelphia, watch out on the boulevard, north and southbound to both directions, the inner drive is closed

between rhawn street and woodward street. until at least 5:30 f. they pick up early i'll keep you updated on that. as for the rest of our philadelphia area, drive times no problem so far this morning on 95. the schuylkill and the blue route. when i come back we're going to go over construction projects. 40,000 gathered in center city philadelphia yesterday for the 25th annual out fest considered the largest coming out party in the nation. they celebrated the supreme court's historic ruling on same-sex marriages. but people there who we spoke with say there is still a lot of work to be done. >> incredible the progress that the lgbt community has made. i'm hoping truthfully that pennsylvania passes a nondiscrimination bill. >> for the first time ever a rainbow flag flying above city hall now bears the philadelphia seal. >> if you plan on flying today or if you are picking someone up at the airport listen to this.

the annual make a wish fund-raiser brought out 1600 people. the event raises money and awareness for wake a wish's mission, fulfilling the dreams of children who spend countless hours getting medical treatment. it grant as wish in the country every 37 minutes. with the help of its more than 27,000 volunteers. >> a special homecoming for a south carolina high school student. >> that's a special homecoming. she was surprised by her dad, a u.s. army sergeant during her school's homecoming football game friday night. both were overcome with emotion. her dad returned from deployment in kuwait. you're watching "nbc 10 news."
