so a chill to begin with, but like yesterday, a quick warm-up. sunny skies, we'll go from 51 at 6:00, to 60 degrees at 9:00 and then we're in the 70s. still climbing. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back. right now jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> bill, we're on the wilson boulevard now so in camden, new jersey, on 676, where that meets approaching the ben franklin bridge, the ben franklin bridge the camera moved to the left a little bit so the ben franklin bridge is on this side. no problems. we'll do a check on the rest of the bridges, no problems heading into the ben franklin bridge in philadelphia, also in the delaware memorial bridge watch for construction there. between route 9 and new castle avenue and mid span of the bridge the left lane is closed heading into new jersey. and back to the rest of the area bridges, heading into philadelphia no problems on the walt, the betsy and tacony palmyra nice and clear and more updates on these and construction projects to come
back in the next ten minutes. >> thanks. it's 5:00 a.m. we're following developing news across airports across the country. thousands of southwest airlines customers are told to show up hours earlier today because of computer glitch. matt delucia is live in our digital operations center with details and what travelers are doing. tell us more about this. >> there is still a travel advisory asking southwest customers to show up at least two hours before the flight. the problem started yesterday just afternoon. this is mainly impacting the service desk inside the airports nationwide and the southwest website and mobile app. we're only talking about southwest airlines being affected here. no other airlines have reported issues with this. right now the airline is using backup systems, there are still delays, and a little over 1 in 10 southwest flights yesterday experienced a delay because of this. there have been long lines reported at airports because workers have in some cases resorted to writing each
boarding pass by hand. >> you have to start to where we are now it hasn't enfinished, it's about three miles. >> if you have a southwest flight scheduled today the airline suggests to try to check in on line and print your boarding pass before you get to the airport or use one of the self serve kiosks you see there in the airport lobby right at the ticketing center. as of this morning it's a good idea to be prepared, get out there ahead of time, early, and be prepared for some delays this morning. matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." former pennsylvania governor ed rendell and congressman brendan boyle are calling on congress to pass a highway transportation bill. they are hosting an event in northeast philadelphia today that will highlight the importance of federal funding in fixing roads and bridges across pennsylvania. >> in montgomery county authorities investigating a death had to call in a hazmat
team. someone called police to report a dead person at a home in lower pottsgrove, responders smelled a strong chemical odor and evacuated the home. crews have not said what caused the odor. miss and the coroner are investigating. >> a body was found in burlington county, police say the remains of a man found in a clothing bin. officers found the victim sunday afternoon at an outside bin behind the country farms store. so far police are not saying how the person may have died. >> this morning a burlington county fire accident mourning the loss of one of its own after an accident involving a lawn mower. katy zachry joins us with more on this. katy, you learned that the man's lawn mower burst into flames. >> that's what we're hearing from fire crews. a lot of people are waking up in disbelief over what happened. this longtime firefighter was killed doing something that so
many of us do without thinking about it. this morning there is black bunting across the fire department. today in honor of retired firefighter roger lippincott. the 79-year-old was from burlington county on his rider lawn mower when it burst into flames. lippincott died at the scene. the first responders to get him were from his own fire department. this is the second time they experienced a former firefighter from that department dying in a fire. >> you work with these guys and these things are never easy for anybody to have to go through. >> it's shocking. i mean, it's very shocking, mr. lippincott was a fixture in this town. >> and those neighbors you heard from describe this as tragic and sobering, so many asking how this hatched. why did that lawn mower burst into flames? i'm working on an update into the investigation for 6:00. >> 5:04. two men are in critical condition after a double
shooting last night in north philadelphia. both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds. ves gary gers say it happened yesterday. no weapon was recovered and no one has been arrested. in south philadelphia, police are investigating a double stabbing that left a 16-year-old in critical condition. that happened around 6:30 at 15th and oregon. the second victim is also a teenager and is in stable kr condition. so far no arrests. >> the archdiocese of philadelphia is closing a bucks county church. st. joseph the worker church will shut its doors next month. officials announced the closure yesterday citing high maintenance and repair costs of more than $1 million. the church mernled with st. francis last year but served as the worship site since then. >> thank the lord for the saints. eagles fans rejoicing after a win that pretty much saved the season yesterday. the eagles and saints were both
1-3 yesterday at the link. both needed a win. the eagles scoring twice in 13 seconds. cox stripped drew brees and recovered the fumble. cox also had three sacks on the day. and then after that sam bradford found a wide open brent celek in the corner of the end zone for the touchdown. the eagles dominated the second half and beat new orleans, 39-17. >> after what we were able to do in the preseason, everyone had been waiting for this. it's obviously a great feeling to go out there and be able to do that, when we're clicking we can go out and do that. i think that's going to give us confidence to do it more often. >> the birds could have put up more, they racked up 500 yards of offense. something birds fans had been waiting for. >> they have more confidence. they looked a lot better. a lot more plays went our way. i love the eagles.

some showers for later in the morning tomorrow. and then following the showers, turning cooler for much of the rest of the week. but it is typical fall weather. right now it is chilly for mount pocono. 50 degrees, 48 in trenton and wilmington is 49 degrees. not much wind, don't expect to see much during the day. we'll get a light southerly breeze which will help to warm things up with mostly sunny skies today. you'll need your sun glasses through the day today. but tomorrow it's umbrellas that will be necessary. a little fog in bluebell. a half mile visibility, it's two miles now at lancaster which was down to quarter mile visibility. the fog won't last long. it's not a problem in new jersey, wildwood, atlantic city, 10-mile visibility. and dover is in the clear at 10 miles. so no sign of clouds today. satellite is clear, the clouds will wait until tomorrow. so stand by for a beautiful columbus day. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast, 70 for mount pocono, allentown and

5:13. five coalition members are dead in a military helicopter crash at the nato base in kabul, afghanistan. we've also learned that five people were injured in this crash which happened yesterday. british authorities say two of the victims belong to the royal air force. afghan security forces say that the helicopter appeared to hit an observation balloon as it was trying to land. about 48 hours after a pair of deadly bombings in turkey's capital no group has taken responsibility yet. nearly 100 people died in
suicide explosions on saturday. you see video of one of those explosions there. officials are trying to figure out who sent those bombers to a rally that was calling for turkey to make peace with kurdish rebels. government opponents blame turkish security fortss failing to protect the demonstrators. the attack is similar to a bombing in july. and at the vatican yesterday pope francis led a silent prayer for the bombing victims. the pontiff prayed with thousands of people in st. peter's square and he was saddened by the killing of defenseless people demonstrating for peace. >> the 14-year-old boy who amazed the pope in philadelphia was back on stage yesterday. ♪ everybody's getting to know that voice. that's bobby hill performing with the keystone boys choir and other children's choirs, part of the children's sabbath.
the 22nd service focused on putting an end to child poverty. ♪ >> that's when we got to hear him. bobby hill still charming the crowds with his angelic voice. >> 5:15. actor randy quaid is set to appear in court today after he and his wife were arrested friday when they entered the country in vermont. record checks show that they were wanted in california for felony vandalism charges. police think that someone tipped off border patrol about the couple trying to cross into the u.s. the actor known for his roles in independence day says he wants to resolve his issues and move on with his life. >> the movement to change the mississippi state flag is picking up steam. hundreds marched outside the state capitol yesterday. activists want the emblem
removed from the mississippi flag. supporters of the confederate flag were there to counter what they call teg nif attacks. organizers say they want to change the sense of shame that the confederal emblem could portray. >> it's not about letting go of your southern history. it's about having a flag so that people can look at it and all feel proud of and not feel a sense of fear or shame. >> the organizers want a similar outcome to that in south carolina where they voted to remove the confederate flag from the state house grounds. >> a new report shows pennsylvania lawmakers spent big money on defense lawyers in the past several years. the legislature spent more than $2.8 million in public money on private defense attorneys since 2011. those attorneys represented state lawmakers and their staff. most of that money was used in cases that sent legislators to jail, forced resignation of high levels of government, and prompted plea deals and immunity agreements for staffers. >> the annual columbus day parade brought people out to

pocono compared to yesterday. it was quite chilly yesterday morning as you can see there is a chill in the air pottstown is at 42, wilmington and trenton in the upper 40s right now. camden is at 49 degrees. look at haddonfield at 45. 46 degrees in voorhees. the temperatures are still falling right now. but that's the only thing that's going to be falling from the sky today. it's tomorrow that we'll see this moving in first thing in the morning. the showers in canada and north dakota into minnesota. that's a storm system that is going to be in central pennsylvania by. >> referee: tomorrow morning. this afternoon the clouds moving into the ohio valley, the showers we're tracking through the night at 5:00 in the morning. you see central pennsylvania getting a line of showers that will sweep through philadelphia at 11:00 tomorrow morning when we could see the steady heaviest rainfall. not looking for lots of rain here, fast movers so we could

good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> ask i'm kras kachris cato. what a perfect fall weekend. some of us may have been under the weather and recuperater. she is back and so is meteorologist bill henley and his first alert forecast. bill, will the great fall weather be back? >> it's going to be a beautiful day again but we're watching for areas of fog, light fog in parts of the area, lancaster has been in and out of the fog, quarter mile visibility there. it but most of the rest of the area is doing fine. 10-mile for mount pocono, philadelphia and trenton. cool this morning, 40s and low 50s. we're holding at 52 degrees in philadelphia. look at toms river. 39 degrees this morning. very low 40s for pottstown, millville and atlantic city. and south philadelphia is 43 degrees. 10 degrees warmer along the delaware river trail. we're getting a chill in the air to start but like yesterday
