"nbc 10 news today" at 5:00 a.m. starts right now. it is fall but right now the only thing falling is the temperature. taking a dive, a fall freeze out there as we take a live look from the birds nest at the link. if you plan on heading to the game to see the eagles take on the giants bundle up. >> fire investigators will be back on the scene this morning to sift through what is left of the lulu country club. more than 100 firefighters battled the flames there. what officials say made the fire so hard to contain. >> a community comes together to help a family of a little boy found wandering alone in love park over the weekend. what people are doing now to
help keep the toddler and his sister safe. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm chris cato. >> i'm lauren mayk. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley and your first alert weather center. it's cold out there this morning. hey, bill. how cold is it? >> feels like december and making it feel colder, a little bit of a breeze blowing. when it's this cold it doesn't take much. 36 degrees in philadelphia. that's the warm spot. most of the area is at or below freezing. trenton dropped 2 degrees in the last hour, 30 degrees, 29 for millville, pottstown is 27 degrees, and camden county, camden down to 34. look at haddonfield, below freezing now for voorhees, so a cold start, freeze warnings across the board for the entire area and freeze warning in effect until 9:00. the temperatures will begin to warm once we get sunshine. but it's going to be a slow
warm-up. at 7:00 for philadelphia, 35 degrees, most of the suburbs still at or below freezing at that hour. by 10:00, 43, and then up to 50 degrees and still climbing at 1:00 this afternoon. your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in 10 minutes. right now jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> we're checking the accident scene in new jersey. not blocking off the lanes on the garden state parkway but something to watch for pushed over into the shoulder. around 539, exit 58. again, watch out for the shoulder being blocked. the schuylkill expressway now, montgomery drive, a 12-minute drive time eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. and construction, 19th street south closed between vine street and the ben franklin parkway. so just watch out for those signs in the area, they will direct you around. >> have your bare feet hit the floor yet? >> hopefully not bare. >> you know it's cold. time to turn up the heat, find
those big coats in the back of the closet and bundle up the kids for the bus stop. >> they need it. we're getting a taste of winter right in the middle of fall. katy zachry is live at septa's jenkintown station. i hope they have dressed warm out there today. >> reporter: well, if they didn't dress warmly at least they can sit in the cars while they wait for the trains which i'm finding most septa riders are doing. not this person whoever owns this car because this is what a lot of people are dealing with when they get out to the cars. this fall frost that really just came upon us last night. if the you're not seeing the frost on your car you're going to have really cold condensation from the rain last night as the temperatures were dropping. so, the parking lot now, pretty quiet. we had a septa train that took some passengers into center city philadelphia. this is how one is dealing with
this fall freeze. >> there's nothing we can do but just bundle up for it. my gloves are here, my heavy coat is here. >> reporter: she has the gloves, she has the hat, and looking at our radar shot, it looks really good but then i draw your attention down to the temperature. here we are just 1 degree over freezing. who would have thought we'd deal with these temperatures in mid october before we even hit halloween. i think we hope that at least this rolls out before halloween because can you imagine kids trick-or-treating when it's this cold out. katy zachry, "nbc 10 news." philadelphia police are on the scene of two suspicious car fires. this happened around 3:15 this morning near the corner of janny and east tioga street. a suspect put rags in two cars and lit them on fire before
taking off. a maker managed to put out the fires with a garden hose. the cars were slightly damaged. happening later today the jury in the center city building collapse trial will resume deliberations after breaking for the weekend. the jurors have to decide if the demolition contractor griffin campbell acted recklessly in july 2013, he is charged with third-degree murder. his company was taking down a building when a brick wall collapsed on a neighboring store, killing six people. the defense called it a horrible accident, prosecutors said campbell values money over lives. new information this morning about the 2-year-old boy found wandering in pluv park. a ministry has launched a campaign to raise $12,000 in 12 days for the boy's family. the parents told police they were kicked out of their home on friday so they spent the night in love park and the toddler ran off while they were asleep. he and his 4-year-old sister are
now in state custody for right now, a group called chosen 300 wants to raise money to pay for one year of housing for the family, along with providing money management and social services. this morning fire investigators will return to a country club in montgomery county trying to figure out why the clubhouse went up in flames over the weekend. the fire started early yesterday morning at the lulu country club in glenn side. take a look, more than 100 firefighters battled the flames all morning. the fire was contained but officials say it's a total loss. they say the building's design including its wooden roof made it pretty tough to put out the flames, and to make matters worse the nearest fire hydrant was 1500 feet away. >> we tapped into three to be able to have enough water to fight the fire. we had several thousand feet of hose from different points. >> i have never seen a fire in person that strong before. >> no one was hurt in the fire.
country club officials issued a statement to members thanking them for support and saying they hope to come back stronger. from the delaware bureau, a driver who caused more than $100,000 in damage during a hit-and-run crash is still on the run. witnesses tell us they spotted a dark pickup truck going about 70 miles an hour in newark new castle county yesterday morning. the truck slammed into a homeowner's driveway and clipped an suv and slamming into two other cars. >> sounded like an explosion. you walk out what did you see, disaster in my driveway. you can see he pushed the vehicles probably 8 to 10 foot. >> police are looking for a dark ford s-250 with front end damage. the homeowner is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. in northeast pennsylvania the man accused of firing at police outside a walmart will be
charged with attempted murder. police responded to 911 calls about gun fire outside the store on saturday. when they arrived a gunman fired several shots. police shot and wounded the suspect. he is in the hospital now and will be arraigned in the next few days. investigators have not released a possible motive. 5:08. the archdiocese of philadelphia is closing a church. yesterday officials announced st. mary of the assumption will no longer serve as a worship site and will close. st. mary of the assumption merged with st. john the baptist parish. the archdiocese says financial challenges are too great to keep up the building. on to this, are you ready for "monday night football"? the giants are in town to take on the eagles. it's more than a rivalry game. tonight's contest is a battle for first place in the nfc east. the eagles 2-3, the giants are leading the division at 3-2, here's a look at coach tom coughlin and the g-men arriving
yesterday. eli manning is on pace for a career season, but he has lost to the eagles 11 of the last 14 times. and he knows the birds and their fans will be jacked up tonight. >> it will be plowed and fired up. they are going to be rocking so we've got to do our job, we've got to play smart and handle the crowd noise. hopefully get off to a fast start. try to calm them down. >> eagles are actually adding to the mystique wearing black jerseys so birds fans are doing like witz and having a blackout at the link. hopefully also the eagles will induct brian westbrook into the team's hall of fame. he played at villanova, a work horse on the offense. he etched his name in history with this 84-yard game-winning punt returnp against the giants fittingly on this very day back in 2003. we'd love to have the same

look at pottstown and doylestown, wrightstown 28 degrees, and in delaware county, dropped to 29 degrees. just below freezing in saint davids. it's a cold start. we'll see clear skies so the temperatures are falling under clear skies and light wind. that's when you get some of your coldest temperatures. at the bus stop, below freezing in the suburbs, 34 degrees in the city, freeze warning in effect until 9:00 this morning. during the afternoon, sunshine, 50s for allentown, reading and quakertown. bright sunny skies for norristown and mount holly. just the low 50s this afternoon. 53 degrees in west chester. narberth 54. the high temperature today. and if you're going to the game tonight, it is going to be chilly. at the link, the temperatures will be in the 40s from the git-go. tailgating 49 at kickoff. 45 getting colder through the

southbound between 49 and salem and the toll plaza for ongoing construction. still ahead, a sad end to the search for a young florida girl missing for more than a year. >> it's crazy because we're trying to figure out what's going on with this child. get out and search ourselves. >> the 11-year-old girl disappeared last august. police believe they have found her remains. a halloween display that takes aim at deflate gate. how the football fans are getting in on the tricks this season.
following this breaking news from overnight out of central florida where police believe they found the body of an 11-year-old girl who has been missing since last year. police say janiya thomas's grandmother and aunt found a body in a freezer at the grandmother's home. authorities believe the body is likely that of janiya. her mother was arrested friday after refusing to answer questions about her daughter's whereabouts during a court hearing. neighbors say everything seemed normal. >> my son had played with the kids and everything. my niece, all of them played with the kids. it's just everything seemed all right when i first seen them which was months ago. >> here is the thing. the body was found in a freezer, the grandmother says janiya's mother and man dropped off the freezer last week.
bradenton police plan to turn over the body to the medical examiner to determine the identity and the cause of death. >> today the girlfriend of mobster whitey bulger will face contempt charge in koufrmt kathryn greg is serving eight years. greg and bolger were fugitives for years. bulger left boston 20 years ago before he was indicted for a list of crimes. he and greg were living near los angeles when he was captured. the girlfriend is accused of disobeying a judge's order to testify about other people who helped hide him. >> three young children and parents died after their suv plunged into a lake in arizona. two boys and a 6 month old girl died. officers and a witness jumped into the water to try and save the family. >> investigators in santa cruz,
california will continue working to try to find out what caused a driver there to plunge after of a pier, killing a man and leaving another in critical condition. witnesses say they spotted a white sedan driving erratically just before the car went over a parking block, broke the railing and fell in the water. >> in colombia, 13 hurt after a plane crashed into a bakery. investigators say the plane went down shortly after takeoff and crashed into a bakery in the western part of bogota. the five people killed were on board. the 13 injured were all in the bakery. drone operators must register aircraft under a new plan announced. the plan will require any one buying a drone to register it wp the department of transportation. the move stems from concerns over recent close calls between drones and commercial airliners.

afternoon. no stein of showers we had yesterday. it stays dry today. and chilly. low to mid-50s with westerly winds to 10 miles an hour. bright sunshine today, and looks like we're in for fair skies tomorrow. 69. look at the temperature rebound after a morning low of 42 and the temperatures will go even warmer on wednesday and thursday, middle 70s. it does not last to the end of the week, the cold air is back. chillier air that is. 68, 61 on saturday and on sunday warmer, there is a chance we'll see some scattered rain showers. new england patriots fans are happy with this football season so far. the defending super bowl champs are undefeated. >> they are also loving a halloween display that ridicules deflate gate, nothing but a witch hunt. take a look. it's an effigy of commissioner roger goodell about to be burned at the stake.
