big difference from this weekend. but the good news is we do stay dry. we're at 42 degrees in philadelphia, 38 allentown, 39 in reading, low 40s for most of south jersey and delaware wildwood coming in at 45 degrees. we are tracking a wintry mix for part of the area overnight tonight into very early tomorrow morning. so here's the weather system back to the west. snow, freezing rain, sleet and a lot of rain to the south of it. so most of the area willble seeing rain, areas north and west, you have the best chance and we expect freezing rain, sleet and possibly snow there. right now we're cloudy and dry, we're going to stay like this pretty much through the rest of the day. areas where you can expect the wintry mix, lehigh valley and the poconos is going to continue or start tonight and continue tomorrow morning. so again that wintry mix not causing good driving conditions but most is going to be while you're sleeping and for the earliest part of the morning commute tomorrow. the rest of the area is going to be too warm in seeing the rain
around. today we're going to have a dry commute. 7:00, 39, by 9:00 a.m. the upper 30s, 11:00 a.m., low 40s and breezy but nice and dry tomorrow, that's when we see those big changes moving in. i'll show you the timing coming up but for this morning a check on the roads with jessica boyington. >> we're watching accident scene on the schuylkill expressway on the off ramp around 28th street so you can see that police activity. our camera from grays ferry. so it's zoomed in. blocking lanes in the off ramp now. traffic still moving by on the schuylkill expressway. for now you should be fine. we'll update to come as the scene progresses for the cleanup. watch for construction as well on 19th street south ongoing between vine street and ben franklin parkway. we're dealing with holiday travel, modified schedule for septa between today monday, december 28 to thursday, december 31, the transit and suburban buses on a modified
weekday schedule. a man is in the hospital after police in montgomery county say he tried to fend off two thieves armed with a tire iron and a brick. katy zachry is live at police headquarters in cheltenham to fill us in. katy. >> reporter: to start this man, the victim in this, was beaten pretty badly. police tell me he is listed in serious condition at a local hospital. mean while, the two suspects who were arrested for his attack are be held at the cheltenham police department. here is the video from the scene. it happened last night at the intersection of mather and wagner way which is inside an apartment complex. the victim we were told was walking to his vehicle and found a man and woman stealing one of his tires. he tried to stop them but the pair used a tire iron and a brick to attack him and get away. despite serious head and facial injuries the victim call forward help and able to give police a
suspect and getaway car description. officers found the couple hiding out in ambler. the pair is expected to be formally charged in a few hours. police tell me at that time they will release pictures of them as well as identifying information. reporting live in cheltenham, katy zachry, "nbc 10 news." pennsylvania governor tom wolf faces big decisions when it comes to the budget battle in harrisburg. this morning randy, we thought maybe by thanksgiving it would be over, maybe christmas and it's still going on. what is next? >> six months later the governor has had the entire christmas holiday to think this over, basically comes down to two choices. either can sign and accept this budget that he believes is inadequate and falls short or veto and extend the stalemate longer.
>> much less spending. no talk of pension or liquor reform plus no major tax increases. less spending on education than the governor wanted but republicans in the general assembly say after six months now after the christmas break it's now time to pass something even though it's not perfect for everybody. >> time for us all to admit we need to take things off the table, we can take pensions off the table, we can take liquor off the table. i certainly think we should take an income tax and sales tax increase off the table and pass a budget that's realistic that can get 102 votes in the house, 26 in the senate and get the governor to sign it. >> the big sticking point for the governor of course the education spending, he wants to restore the cuts made to education that happened during the great recession paid for by tax increases. that is the not in the budget that's on his desk today. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news.

wilmington, millville 43, dover 43. trenton 39. we go through the afternoon highs won't get above the low 40s. so it's going to be a colder day. we'll stay dry. big weather system causing a lot of problems with snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain and this will be moving in tomorrow. mostly overnight tonight and early tomorrow. so you'll notice for the morning commute. the area with the wintry mix, that's mostly going to be the lehigh valley and poconos. we don't have any precip around. we just have the clouds so expect a dry morning commute today. really even a dry evening commute tonight. winter weather advisory is up for the poconos, and the lehigh valley. so this is for that area precip i showed you the wintry mix, for sleet, freezing rain, possibly around an inch of snow, and some of the rain could move in and transition into the lehigh valley. that would be mostly overnight into the earliest part of the morning commute tomorrow. here is a look at future weather, so today the clouds hang around, temperatures don't
get above the low 40s. late tonight, mostly after midnight the models pretty consistent with showing that. we have a wintry mix north and west. so this is 2:00 in the morning. you see the pink temperatures around freezing, below freezing up in the poconos so here we expect possibly snow, freezing rain, sleet, so dangerous driving conditions. the good news is the it's through the overnight hours. the rain line starts to transition north. i don't think the poconos would be out of it tomorrow morning but for the rest of the area for the morning commute it is going to be rain tomorrow. we'll look at the timing of this and what it looks like for your new year coming up. 20 till 6 on this monday morning. a cold start to that first monday after the holidays. >> people are going to crank up the heat in the cars. let's check in with jessica boyington. she's got eye on the traffic and starts us off on 95. >> something to watch for on 95. a disabled vehicle, these are around cottman avenue.
he's in the right-hand shoulder, so not blocking the lanes yet. again something to watch out for. you can see two vehicles on scene. and traffic moving by nicely. again, these are around cottman area. it's still 12 minutes. we'll check with the schuylkill expressway. an accident scene around 28th street to watch for in the process of clearing. the police officers are on their way out right now. you can see the drive times are okay. this is a different section of the schuylkill but still, eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway about a 12-minute trip east or westbound no problems there. and getting word of some delays departing the philadelphia international airport. you can see it hasn't registered yet but you want to check before you head out the door this morning. >> thanks. donald trump takes on the clintons. both of them. coming up how former president bill clinton plays into the donald's latest attack.

selling outerwear and scarves and all of the things we normally get rid of this time of the year. big deals. >> the irony is better weather makes people more inclined to head out to shop. so they could end up at the car dealer. another winner outdoor recreation, except for the ski resorts. camelback mountain was closed this weekend and today. its website says it will make snow as soon as it can and reopen as soon as possible. >> if you purchased a live christmas tree for your home, now may be the time to take it down. experts say if the tree drys out it could become a fire hazard. a dry tree can burn very quickly. it can burn faster than newspaper. fire experts say it's good to repsych altree when the needles start to fall off. if you live in the city of fill till the residential christmas tree recyclining program begins january 4 through january 16. if you want to recycle your tree

the most efficient and soon we'll start competing to be the most sustainable. >> heartfield jackson is the first to have 100 million passengers cross its gates in a single year. well, this morning you'll notice it's a little colder and it will stay colder through the afternoon. then we go into late tonight and we're going to be tracking winter precip, mainly the lehigh valley and poconos, north and west of philadelphia expect around an inch of snow but sleet and freezing rain more likely here. this would be mostly through the overnight hours when many of you are sleeping or tomorrow. so you don't want to get on the roads in these conditions for the rest of the area. into tuesday we'll have that rain around. right now is a colder start. 42 in philadelphia, 42 atlantic city. low 40s for much of delaware and
south jersey. and the temperatures will be hanging around the low 40s for a high today also. off to the west we have snow t wintry mix, rain, and this weather system is going to move in late tonight, early tomorrow morning. in the meantime we just have the cloud cover ahead so we'll stay dry. for the morning commute and through most of the evening commute too. the winter advisory after the evening commute. lehigh valley and poconos, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. sleet, freezing rain, snow could be around an inch and then we'll see the rain transition up through lehigh valley through the morning commute. so here is a look at future weather. highs in the 40s, close to midnight i think we're going to see most of this precip start to move in. this is 2:00 in the morning, so again, most of this is going to start overnight. especially north and west where you see the pink, poconos, upper
bucks, montgomery county. freezing rain and lead. maybe snow. the rain starts to transition to the north. temperatures warm the rest of the area 50 degrees, 60s to the south, heavy rain for the morning commute. clearing through the afternoon. temperatures around 43 to 46 degrees. cloudy colder and breezy. tomorrow early, that's when we expect that wintry mix but i think most should be combined for the morning commute. 2016 we'll be in the 40s. >> i'm sure a lot of people who have to go back to work are getting up and getting ready. >> maybe moving a little slower this morning. jessica is helping us keeping an eye on 95. >> right. 95 where we have a small problem right around cottman avenue. the good thing it's on the right-hand shoulder. police activity there.
