i'm katy zachry. it is just 10:00 a.m. on your sunday and it's warming up out there. let's get a check on your sunday weather with meteorologist bill henley. good morning, bill. >> good morning, katy. it's 47 degrees. that's about as warm as we would normally get at the end of february, today is the 28th. but today it will keep going into the sikds. look at the sunshine on boathouse roe. the breeze is blowing. a few thin clouds but nothing to show you on radar, it's completely dry. temperatures 50 in pottstown, a quick warm-up for millville and dover, 52 in atlantic city at the airport. temperatures wasted no time. you can see the camera shaking. that's a steady wind that will be gusting more than 20 miles an hour this afternoon. bright sunshine, 54 at lunchtime, 59 at 3:00. i think we'll hit 60 degrees this afternoon. >> all right, bill. thank you. new from overnight, a man is recovering after being attacked during a home invasion in west
philadelphia. police say the man was inside his apartment in this building on chestnut street around 2:00 a.m. when three men stormed the front door. the men attacked the man inside, took a cell phone and wallet and ran away. the victim was treated at the hospital for cuts to his face. so far police have not made any arrests. and new from overnight, philadelphia police are looking into two convenience store robberies in the rhawnhurst section of the city, one at this wawa on sully avenue. another took place a mile away at this 7-eleven. initial reports said the suspect in both robberies used a crowbar. it is unclear if the robberies are connected. decision 2016. hillary clinton movesoon with a huge win her b.e.t. south carolina chose clinton decisively over bernie sanders. drew smith here looking into the
results and where the race goes from here. drew. >> last night was a blowout. brand-new numbers released this hour from nascar "wall street journal" poll shows momentum from hillary clinton and donald trump will likely continue in several super state. strong african-american turnout powered her to victory in the palmetto state. 2-1 in georgia, tennessee, texas. last clinton said very little to her democratic opponent but took on republicans in her campaign. >> i know it sometimes seems a little odd for someone in these days and times to see we need more loving kindness in america. i'm telling you from the bottom of my heart, we do. >> secretary clinton will campaign in tennessee and
arkansas today while senator sanders heads to oklahoma and colorado. a dozen states and a territory are up for grabs this super tuesday. katy. >> drew, thank you. intensity is building among republicans running for white house. front-runner donald trump is looking for a knockout on super tuesday. new jersey governor chris christie campaigned with trump in arkansas yesterday. christie endorsed trump friday. at this rally trump spent most of his time bashing marco rubio and fending off attacks on his business record. senator rubio continued to blast trump on the stump in georgia yesterday. rubio said he can win the gop nomination because he believes voters will start to see that trump is a, quote, con man. senator ted cruz taking stock at the verbal banter between rubio and trump. in atlanta yesterday, cruz said he wants to avoid a battle of insults. cruz predicted he'll do well in
his home state of texas on tuesday. coming up in just about 25 minutes, bernie sanders, john kasich and ted cruz will join moderator chuck on nbc's "meet the press." it comes your way this morning at 10:30 right here on nbc 10. we have new information now on this rookie police officer who was shot to death during her first day on the job in northern virginia. authorities say a gunman killed officer guindon and wounded two of her comrades. a woman also killed. the suspect is a military serviceman. he's facing a capital murder charge. we have new information about a stabbing at a philadelphia septa station. take a look at these pictures. they are photos of the man police need help identifying. the woman was going into an elevator at huntington station.
a man demanded money from her in the elevator, stabbed her in the shoulder and leg and ran off. the woman is being treated at the hospital but expected to be okay. city inspectors think weather may have played a part in the collapse of this philadelphia home. it tumbled down to the ground yesterday morning with a man inside. neighbors did help rescue him from the debris in gray's ferry. the city's licenses and inspection department said the property did not have any open violations. lni crews on the scene and they suspect this week's heavy rain and strong winds may have played a part in the collapse. the victim was taken to the hospital. we're told he's expected to be okay. coming up next, overdose rescue. our cameras were there and captured the lifesaving efforts of medics armed with narcan. plus it could be leo's big night. we'll hear just how confident the experts are about leonardo dicaprio taking home an oscar.

will gather to remember cara mccollum, a former miss new jersey. funeral services scheduled for this afternoon at her hometown in arkansas. a memorial service was held there last night. another memorial scheduled for next month in ocean city in, new jersey. mccollum was a news anchor. at snj today in millville, cumberland county. she died last monday following a car crash in bad weather. mccollum was girlfriend of our nbc colleague and friend keith jones. last night the miss philadelphia pageant paid tribute to cara. nbc 10 at drexel university's mandel theater. pageant contestants and spectators each asked to bring a book. those will be donated to the organization, mccollum's organization, the birthday book project. >> we're so proud of having her be part of new jersey. we plan on carrying on her birthday book program. >> that program provides brand-new gift wrapped books for kindergarten to 5th grade
students for their birthdays. it also promotes the idea that reading is a gift. >> announcer: now, your nbc 10 news exclusive. a heroin user saved and brought back from the brink. only our camera was there as medics used narcan to reverse the overdose. a septa officer raced inside the huntington station yesterday inside the station to help. the man on the platform was convulsing. that's when a medic arrived with a lifesaving batch of narcan, the heroin antidote. in pennsylvania heroin kills more people than car crashes. in south jersey a fire chief recovering from a hack he suffered while battling a fire in ocean beach. crews responded to this home on channel drive in mantoloking. mantoloking chief collapsed at the scene with what turned out to be a hark. he survived and is now recovering at the hospital.
today you may feel shaking if you live near joint base mcguire-dix-lakehurst. they are doing live fire mortar training. they say nearby residents could feel a little ground shaking and hear noise from firing ranges. this morning we have a look at septa's plan to bring regional rail service to king of brush. it includes a stop that drops you off right inside the mile. here i guess the route. run four to five miles along pennsylvania turnpike. the route would include five stops, including two at the king of prussia mall, one inside and one out. the project still has a ways to go. septa officials will hold a public hearing on march 7th to explain in detail and get community feedback. a young athlete who inspired change in high school sports hit the mat for a first in the philadelphia region. tatiana ortiz competed in public
league championship yesterday. she did lose to her opponent so her season is over. however, ortiz was the first female wrestler to qualify for the event and she inspired philadelphia archdiocese to change its policy so they now allow male athletes to compete in contact sports with female athletes. tonight is hollywood's big night, the 88th annual academy wards. al hand i don't inarritu could be the first back-to-back best director winner in 65 years, if he takes home the oscar for "the revenant." more certain is the love for the movie's star leonardo dicaprio. best actor would be his first oscar. >> i think he's at home writing his speech right now. at least he should be. i can't imagine anyone else winning. comedian chris rock will host tonight's ceremony. he'll likely the academy's diversity issue squarely in his
sights but not expected to allow it to dominate the event. some movies have already taken on honors but not the good kind. miles an hour. plenty of sunshine for the skiers, too. that's camelback. sunny skies and into the low 50s at camelback. the wind kicked in. that's to be increasing this afternoon. southwesterly wind helping you boost temperatures. still a little bit of a chill in the air, feels like 42 in philadelphia but it will feel like low 60s this afternoon with sunshine. there goes the clouds. last few thin clouds this morning. the next round of clouds will come tomorrow. you can see a line of clouds moving into the midwest. with that will come some showers. it's a mix of snow and some rain moving into northwestern ohio. it should be here first thing tomorrow morning. but it will be rain. 1:00 in the morning tomorrow, that rain extends into the deep south. not going to be heavy, just light showers to start with at 7:00 in the morning. sweep philadelphia right around mid-morning. by midday, those rain showers are now completely out of the picture and will see sunshine for monday.
another round of plenty of sunshine for tuesday. going to be another warm afternoon, barely a cloud in the sky. then i'm tracking a possibility of more rain tuesday night moving through the ohio valley and into southwestern pennsylvania arriving here during the morning on wednesday. more significant showers with that next line of showers for midweek. for today, showers and sunshine, plenty of sunshine. sunny skies, a little bit breezy with winds gusting 25 miles an hour. 60s here on nearly the last day of february. hard to beat that. on leap day tomorrow, the 29th, 58 degrees. showers move through in the morning. we'll sunshine in the afternoon. 58 degrees after a morning low of 44. a bit warmer with plenty of sunshine for tuesday. back up to 60 degrees. a warm breeze blowing on tuesday but going to get chilly on wednesday. 52 with rain showers moving through in the morning and tapering off in the afternoon. sunshine to start things off on thursday before clouds.
