nbc 10 news starts now. the front-runners continue to win. donald trump and hillary clinton took nearly every primary yesterday. we have complete coverage plus word of a possible last-minute republican replacement for the republican. new details about this masked home invasion suspect who terrorized a woman in chester county. we have a closer look at the suspect's disguise. hanging up the robe, another pennsylvania supreme court judge will leave the bench amid an ongoing pornographic e-mail scandal. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. let's get right to meteorologist sheena parveen with her first alert forecast. no need for the umbrella today. >> no need for the umbrella today, tracy. you'll want the low beams on because we have some fog around this morning. take a look at the visibility, a half mile in pottstown, half mile in wilmington.
we've been seeing the visibility drop as more fog continues to settle in. zero in lancaster. that's dense fog. quarter mile in reading, patchy, dense fog will be the case throughout the morning. after the sun comes up,ç we'll start to see a lot of this diminish. 45 in philadelphia, 40 in pottstown, 39 in reading. millville at 38. for the bus stop forecast this morning, we're dealing with fog and some areas, especially in the lehigh valley. if you're north and west of philadelphia, through the lehigh valley this morning at the bus stop, 40 degrees. by the afternoon we'll be seeing temperatures closer to 60. philadelphia mid-40s by the afternoon, low 60s. if you're in new jersey and delaware, mainly the mid-40s by 7:00 a.m. and by 2:00 we'll be in about the mid-60s. coming up, i'll show you the rest of the forecast with more rain chances. i'll show you that straight
ahead. let's get a check of the roadways. >> we're watching the schuylkill expressway right now. this is around montgomery drive. we're still at a 13-minute trip if you're headed eastbound into the center city area, from the blue route to the vine street expressway, no problems. these lanes right here are headed in that direction eastbound. no problems headed westbound right now as well. if you're out the door on the pa turnpike, watch for lane restrictions with construction. westbound/eastbound, no backups or delays from route 1 to valley forge and speeds still in the 60s with a 23-minute drive time. head on over into delaware. ongoing construction in new castle. the on ramp is closed from 13 northbound to right around 295. tracy. >> 4:32. the presidential picture is getting clearer this morning after front-runners donald trump and hillary clinton won nearly every primary contest yesterday. here's the delegate count. on the democratic side, hillary
clinton has 1,565 delegates, nearly double bernie sanders. democrats need 2,383 delegates to win the nomination. donald trump leads republican with 656 followed by ted cruz and john kasich. republicans need a total of 1,237 delegates to win. nbc 10's matt delucia is here with the details on what happened last night and words from theç latest candidate to drop out. >> tracy, it was an important night for marco rubio to win his home state of florida. when he failed to do that, he suspend his campaign leaving three republican candidates. rubio told disappointed supporters in miami last night that a wave of anger and frustration at the political establishment has been building. with trump's big win in the sunshine state he would not be on the winning side of nomination fight. >> america is in the middle of a real political storm, a real tsunami. we should have seen this coming.
look, people are angry and people are very frustrated. >> reporter: gop front-runner donald trump wished marco rubio well after beating him badly in his home state. and trump said he himself has been hit hard by negative advertising in the weeks leading up to yesterday's prime ares, he encouraged republicans to unify behind his campaign. meantime, house speaker paul ryan has not ruled out accepting the gop nomination. that's one possibility that is being tossed around if there is in fact a deadlock republican convention this summer. he told cnbc last night he hasn't given any thought to the possibility and doesn't see that playing out. ryan ran in 2012 as mitt romney's vice presidential nominee. today john kasich will be here in our area. governor kasich will take part in a town hall at villanova university's conley center. starts at noon. nbc 10 will there be. look for our reports today
starting at nbc 10 news at 4:00. on the democratic side, hillary clinton picked up victories in florida, ohio and north carolina but a smaller lead in missouri and illinois. a jubilant hillary clinton congratulated bernie sanders and said she believes this is one of the most consequential elections in our lifetime. speaking last night in phoenix, sanders did not mention clinton by name but referred to his opponent as someone who takes money from super pacs and wall street. >> and the reason that we have done as well as we have, theç reason that we have defied all expectations is that we are doing something very radical in american politics. we are telling the truth. >> bernie sanders remains in the race for the democratic nomination, though clinton widened her lead in delegates last night. as for the republicans, donald trump needs to win about 60% of
the remaining delegates which could be difficult but doable. tracy? >> all right, matt. make sure you have the free nbc 10 app available now for smartphones and tablets. read up on the candidates, get instant alerts from the campaign trail as they happen. 4:36. happening today, wilmington city council will update the community on a plan to cut down on gun violence. the national centers for disease control released a report last november confirming wilmington's homicide rate as extremely excessive compared to other u.s. cities. the report also recommended a number of state services in place to help keep at-risk individuals away from criminal activity. city council will meet tonight to give an update on efforts to carry out those recommendations. tonight's meeting comes one day after wilmington residents met with police to talk about recent violence. in the last two weeks seven people have been shot and three of the victims died. residents were asked to write down questions they wanted police to answer. one person wanted to know how the commune can get involved to
make the city safer? >> the stronger the community members, the better the community is. i think the breakdown of a lot of those things create an atmosphere where you have gun violence, where you have drug use, kids not going to school. people not going to work. >> yesterday's meeting was one of several that civic leaders and residents are conducting with police. we have new information here. police in chester conte released a new picture of the mask worn by a thief who broke into a woman's home and tied her up. the robbery happened in tredyffrin township early sunday morning. the thief made off with jeeelry, a car and atm card. here's a clearer picture of what the actual mask looks like. police are hoping someone will recognize the unique mask sin the suspect wore it from the scene of the robbery to the atm where he withdrew money from the victim's account. a pennsylvania supreme court
justice caught up in a pornographic e-mail scandal has stepped down from the bench. justice michael aiken resigned yesterday. he had been suspended for his role in the scandal. authorities accuse him of exchanging lewd and offensive items. bullied on the school bus. one chester county school student says this violent scene happened over and over again. ahead, hear from the young bullying victim. also ahead, a part of history could soon be history. find out why this revolutionary war era house in camden county may have its days numbered. and here's a live look out, philly international airport, doesn't look too bad with the visibility but some areas are seeing dense fog this morning. we'll take a look at the visibility across the area and what you can expect when you head out the door.
now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, good wednesday morning. we are dealing with some fog around but at least we don't have the rain. here's a look at the radar. nice, dry conditions with areas of dense fog. pottstown, a quarter mile visibility, reading, a quarter mile. lancaster, zero. that's dense fog, some of the thickest we have around. mount holly is coming in at three-quarter mile visibility. we've seen it fluctuating up and down with the visibility. that's what we'll keep seeing as we go through the morning. the visibility in some areas will be low while others not too bad. patchy, dense fog will be the case this morning. be careful as you're driving. temperaturewise, you'll probably want the jacket this morning, especially if you're in ç pottstown, reading or lancaster.
temperatures in the upper 30s, 45 in philadelphia. 40 in allentown, 44 wilmington and dover. a cool start to your morning. as we go through the rest of the morning hours, at least by 9:00 a.m., we'll be still in the 40s mainly, getting closer to 50 degrees. finally we'll see more afternoon sun today. so that's fantastic news. as we get closer to 3:00 this afternoon, temperatures about the mid-60s. we should be dry by 3:00 p.m. it's later on this evening when we'll see showers move in and more rain chances for the rest of the week. we're watching a chance of rain and snow, believe it or not, as we start spring. i'll show you that forecast coming up. snow as we start spring. hm-mm? >> possibly. >> possibly. >> 4:42. let's check your ride to work. >> we're still in the 4:00 hour. traffic is light moving through the area. this is the boulevard around
17th street. no problems getting on or off the off ramps. you can see both lanes whether headed northbound or southbound from the schuylkill expressway from this point are doing okay. cherry hill, new jersey on route 70, around king's highway, not a lot of people stopped at the intersection here. the roads are dry, looking different than they did yesterday morning. i'll be back in the next ten minutes with another check on your morning drive. cell phone video shows a child being bullied on the school bus. next, hear from the student about the ongoing violence, plus, find out what school officials are doing about it. abuse investigation. take a good look at this horse with a multicolored coat. next, hear what police say happened to the animal.
this 10-year-old from main street elementary in the chester upland school district says he was bullied over and over again. the latest incident captured on cell phone video when he was beaten up on the school bus. this little boy says he was afraid to fightç back, fearful that other eight to ten bullies on the bus would attack him, too. a police officer once told him what to do when being bullied. >> stand up for yourself. you can choose two different ways to do it, tell someone or fight back. >> the child spoke up about the bullying. he's being moved to a new school which is what his mom wanted and the bully who hit him on the bus has been expelled. happening today, missouri lawmakers expect to get an explanation from police on how they dealt with tense demonstrations during a donald trump rally in downtown kansas city saturday. police used pepper spray on at least two demonstrators as they worked to control the crowds. protests and violence have
erupted at several recent trump rallies. meantime, trump-related tensions appear to have sparked a fiery act of vandalism in atlantic county. nbc 10's vai sikahema is live in our digital operations center with more on that incident. vai? >> good morning, tracy. police want the public's help in figuring out who's behind this arson case. someone set fire to a trump supporters billboard over the weekend. this is in egg harbor township, just hours after a trump rally in chicago was canceled because of safety concerns. jay henry says he knew his big trump billboard might become a target but never thought someone would actually set it on fire. >> i was expecting a few tomatoes, maybe a paint ball, something like that. this is actually very bad. >> the sign was vandalized soon after it went up a few weeks ago and then repainted. no one has been arrested. a new jersey baseball capmaker is selling a lot of anti-trump hats.
they say make donald drumpf again. the hatmaker reportedly says they made them as a joke but sold way pore than expected. the protest hats are a spoof of trump's make america great agaiç hats. unionwear did make the make america great again baseball caps that trump popularized during his campaign. i'm vai sikahema, live in the digital operations center. authorities have released new pictures of a truck that investigators say played a role in that amtrak train derailment in kansas earlier this week. investigators say this agricultural truck struck the track which shifted them ahead of monday's derailment. the engineer hit the emergency brakes after seeing the damaged tracks ahead. and the sudden stop caused the train to derail. more than two dozen people were
hurt. investigators say the driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation. meantime, the train cars involved in the crash are back on the track. this is video crews working on the southwest chief train. the feed company that owns the truck involved in the derailment has so far declined comment. in lancaster county, authorities are looking for the person who shot an abandoned horse with a paint ball gun more than 100 times. the lancaster county spca is searching for the horse's owner. you can see the paint marks all offer the animal. it's blind in the right eye. someone left the horse at the new holly sales stable with no identification. now from our south jersey bureau, some people are fighting plans to demolish an historic home in order to make way for a highway. according to our partners at news works, the hug harrison glover house dates back to the 17th century, part of the revolution war was fought on the property.
nj dot says it needs the space to widen a curve on 295. no word on when the demolition will happen. preservationists hope to stop it before then. 4:50. let's check the roads, including the conditions on the blue route. jessica boyington has that. >> we are watching the blue route right now. right around the mid-county toll plaza we did have two disabled tractor-trailers over here, just beyond the toll plaza. one of them still remains, the other one drove away. no backup or problems there. that's something toç watch out for. moving over to another toll plaza, this one is in new jersey on the garden state parkway around the great egg toll plaza over in summer's point. no problems. looks different than it did yesterday. no problems or backups at all, at least for the main stretch of the garden state parkway. there is a new construction layout on route 50. this is also in south jersey northbound around route 49. that's scheduled until july. use caution when traveling through. as for mass transit, running on
time or close to schedule for septa, patco, d.a.r.t., new jersey transit or amtrak. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, this morning we have fog around, not for everybody but some areas are seeing dense fog. keep that in mean as you're about to head out, your morning drive, you could be running into very thick fog. later on today, more rain chances and more rain chances for the rest of the week. then we go into your weekend. there's a chance we could see rain and snow. as we go into sunday believe it or not, that's the first official day of spring. we're seeing dense fog, mostly north and west of philadelphia, quarter mile visibility in pottstown, reading and lancaster, seeing zero mile visibility. that's dense fog. philadelphia, 2 1/2-mile visibility. northeast philly has improved. we'll keep seeing the fluctuations throughout the morning. four miles now in millville.
that has improved. at this point, it's kind of patchy, dense fog. through the lehigh valley, upper 30s to low 40s. 40 agrees allentown, 43 degrees in philadelphia. 37 in millville. you will probably want your jacket if you're walking outside this morning in millville. by the afternoon we'll be warmer than yesterday, dry on satellite and radar. the showers are just back off to our west. but as we go through the day today, some of the showers will move in later on this evening. 7:00 p.m. we expect the rain to start to move in by 7:00 p.m. late showers in the forecast. temperatures mostly reaching the upper 60s today. we will see more sunshine this afternoon. yesterday. rain chance in the forecast for your st. patrick's day. through the afternoon, temperatures at about the low 60s. friday colder, mid-50s. going into the weekend, 30s to start your morning saturday and sunday, highs only in the 40s. and there you see it, a chance of rain and snow late in the day sunday, possibly early sunday morning, too. that's the first day of spring.

station where there's no direct connection between septa and amtrak lines. there's a plan to change that. here's what we know. today from 4:00 till 7:00, the 30th street district station will hold a public open house at the transit hub to talk about plans to develop an underground concourse linking all the neighborhood's transportation services. the concourse would be just the first step in a 35-year plan for the neighborhood. republican lawmakers plan to vote today on a new budget plan for pennsylvania. governor tom wolf blasts the plan for not being balanced. lawmakers are also debating a bill to legalize medical marijuana. the house is tackling more than 200 amendments to the bill, which governor wolf supports. the house could vote on it sometime this week. help is on theç way for th jersey shore. president obama signed a disaster declaration for those impacted by the winter storm in
january. the federal funds go to state and local governments to repair damaged buildings and washed away beaches. the money will not be available for use by individual home owners. officials in delaware, recognize dozens of police officers and paramedics for going above and beyond the call of duty. nbc 10 in new castle for the county's public safety awards ceremony where several officers receiveder is five cats for using narcan to save the lives of people who had overdosed on drugs. officials recognized other officers for musing social media to find and arrest a convicted felon. there is one young recipient who stole the ceremony. >> emma at such a young age understands the true meaning of giving and supporting others in need. for her efforts, she's awarded aer is five cat of appreciation. >> emma raised money to buy games for children of ai dupont
children's hospital who couldn't go home for christmas. lee's hoagie house raise money for 7-year-old allison turner. she was badly hurt and nearly drown after slipping in her bathtub in december. she's been in the hospital ever since. t the hoagie will donate some of its profits over the next few days to pay for her hospital bills. >> i'll show her pictures tonight. it's incredible. >> allison's parents say she's been taken off a ventilator and is breathing on their own but say their little girl still has a long fight ahead. a giant tribute to our nation's most famous leaders is little more then a crumbling mess. >> this is interesting. the former tourist attraction has landed in an unlikely location.
