with jessica boyington. >> we're watching the garden state parkway over near summer's point, one of the most significant snowfalls we're beginning to watch. this is around the great egg toll plaza. you can see approaching that scene, we have not a lot of that snow sticking to the roads right now. the roads look predominantly wet. snowfall there. watch for slippier spots, getting on and off the off ramp, going through intersections and toll plazas as well. we're watching that accident scene on route 55. that's right around route 56 for that closure. word that only the shoulder is getting by. katy zachry willç have more details on that scene for you in just a moment. for right now, your best bet is to take delsea drive to get through the area. katy zachry is live on scene gathering new information. katy, was weather a factor here?
>> we don't know yet if this crash was weather related. it happened around 2:30 this morning. at that time, it was snowing but as you can see, things have stopped considerably and really the snow has cleared out. take a look behind me at route 55. we are just off the exit. that vehicle you see stopped along the highway with the flashing lights, that is one, it appears to be one of the two vehicles involved in this deadly crash. here's video of the scene that we fed into the newsroom not long ago. state police say a sedan crashed with a salt truck near the exit for route 56 along route 55 southbound. the driver of the sedan was killed. the salt truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. there was up to a mile of stopped traffic along route 55 southbound because of this scene. about a half hour ago, crews were able to wrap up some of their investigation on scene and opened the shoulder around this
crash so that traffic could continue southbound on route 55 or it could exit at route 56. we are still trying to figure out, learn from investigators, if they believe this deadly crash was weather related and also when we learn the identity of the driver who was killed in this early morning crash, we'll bring it to you. reporting live in vineland, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. >> thank you. something similar here. investigators are checking to see if slick roads played a part in this deadly crash on i-95 in south philadelphia. five vehicles were involved around 11:00 last night at the broad street entrance to northbound 95. one man was killed. four other people went to the hospital with injuries. the road re-opened around 3:00 this morning. new information on this house fire in chester, delaware county. a man pulled from the burning home by firefighters has died. firefighters were called to concord avenue near fifth street around 1:00 a.m. sunday. they found a victim trapped on the third floor and used a special bucket ladder to get him
out of the house. he died at the hospital. and this fire destroyed a row home in philadelphia's brewerytown neighborhood. the flames break out at this row home on 30th street. no one was hurt. investigators are now looking into the cause. pennsylvania turnpike officials say security will be a top priority after a deadly robbery attempt involving a retired state troope)f it all went down at the fort littleton interchange. authorities say retired state trooper clarence briggs forced two toll cleshgts at gun point in an office building, tried to tie them up. they broke free. just then a van coming to collect money from the office arrived. a security guard joined one of the collectors to confront briggs. he shot and killed them both. the driver the van ran away and jumped inside.
>> we'll expend whatever resources we need to make sure that we find out what happened, to make sure our system is secure and that our employees are protected. while that's going on, we'll make sure that we have counseling available for our employees. >> clarence briggs retired four years ago with an honorable discharge after 26 years on the force. he was part of a unit that patrols the turnpike. a philadelphia police officer is recovering from minor injuries after being hurt chasing down a robbery suspect. police say the suspect held up conchetta's pizza in tacony last night. officers caught up to him in kensington. the suspect was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. decision 2016 reports say republican presidential front-runner donald trump will meet with gop leaders in the nation's capital today. trump is expected to speak with the american israeli policy
group. the fbi is looking into threats against donald trump's sister and one of his sons. sources tell nbc news mary yan trump berry received a death threat in the mail. berry is a federal judge in philadelphia. she got the letter the day after eric trump received an envelope with white powder which turned out to be harmless. threats follow a wave of protests and some violence at donald trump's rallies. this video shows tense moments at a trump rally in tucson, arizona, saturday night. audience member appears to punch a protester and kick him while he's down on the floor. the alleged attacker is facing charges. for complete decision 2016 coverage, including the latest delegate counts and upcoming primaries and caucuses, tap the nbc 10 app. 5:05, 36 degrees outside. today, a hearing women focus on efforts to cut lead from drinking water in homes and schools. philadelphia is one of several cities in our area re-evaluating
water safety because of the flint water crisis. earlier this year, the philadelphia water department detailed its testing methods in an effort to show the city's drinking water is safe. today water department officials and experts will testify about the best way to preventç lead exposure from aging pipes and infrastructure. breaking news, north korea has fired a missile into the waters off its east coast. that's according to south korea's largest news agency. the report says north korea also fired several other short-range projectiles into the sea. the launches come as south korea and the u.s. conduct an annual military drill. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> good monday morning. we are seeing snow falling for some of you this morning. but it's go inge to clear out pretty soon. most of the area already cleared out. but if you are on the beaches along the sussex county, delaware, lewes, delaware still
seeing the snow, rehoboth beach to slaughter beach. cape may kuehcounty, you're sti seeing the light snowfall as well. we have wet roads. in some areas you could see this stick and we could have slick spots, too. atlantic city to ocean city, light snow still falling here. through burlington county, woodland seeing that. we're seeing it near mystic island. moderate snowfall. we'll keep all this in the forecast for the shore and the delaware beaches and sussex county for the next couple of hours. but mercer county you're seeing clearing. philadelphia no more snow falling here. can't rule out a few flurries. it's really coming to an end. we're right on the edge of this thing. more snow for new england out of this storm system. as we go through the day today, we'll continue to clear out. temperatures, if you're about to walk outside, 30 doylestown, 35 degrees in philadelphia. we look along the shore. this is the area where we're watching temperatures for any
slick spots. some spots are at or below freezing. cape may, 33 degrees. cape may airport, 34. that snow could be melting. mainly wet roads. look at cape may courthouse, 32 degrees, same thing in woodbine. some of that light snow could be trying to stick. be cautious of slick spots this morning. in atlantic county, mullica township, 31 degrees. summer's point 31 degrees. 33 at the ac airport. these areas could be seen as snow sticking, causing slick roads. for the roads this morning, most of that snow is melting, mainly wet roads. like i just showed you, slick spots around, too. very little accumulation. if anything, it would be grassy surfaces. the rest of it, we've seen this come to an end. we expect it to be ending in new jersey+sf and delaware, right g the shore by 7:00 this morning. it's the shore points and the beaches in delaware that we'll be watching the snow continuing. here's future weather as we get closer to 7:00 a.m., you see a lot of it moving out.
temperatures right around freezing. a cold start to your morning. it will stay chilly through the afternoon. by 1:00 p.m., mid-40s. windy, topping out in the upper 40s with windy conditions. for today, p.m. clearing. more sunshine through the afternoon as we get rid of that snow this morning. otherwise, 46 to 49 for the high temperature. winds gusting as high as 35 miles an hour, tomorrow around 53 degrees. another cold start. 32 for the morning low. nice warmup as we go into wednesday and thursday. rain as we go into friday, though, take a look, sunday is officially easter. 64 degrees, looking pretty good. >> like the easter bunny, jumping up and down. >> i like that easter bunny. 5:09 as we begin the workweek. let's take a look at 59. jessica boyington has that. >> 95, this is our camera around girard avenue. we had an earlier disabled vehicle that's cleared out of the way. no big backups, at least for that right now.
southbound from the woodhaven road to the vine street expressway is a 13-minute trip. those roads are just a little bit wet. use caution when you head out the door, just in case some of the spots are more slippery than others. here's another accident in upper montgomery county. pa turnpike looks okay. no problems or delays westbound or eastbound from route 1 to valley forge, a 23-minute trip there. speed restrictions on the new jersey turnpike in both directions from the delaware memorial bridge to exit 8a in south brunswick township. it's down to 45 miles an hour. apple will unveil a new batch of products today. and villanova. >> go, cats! >> villanova is the last local team standing. now they're roaring into a tournament round they haven't seen since 2009.

thursday night at 7:10 in louisville. some of the die-hard fans are already planning their trip to kentucky and bringing some of the good luck charm with them. the closest that the cats have been in recent years was in 2009. they made it to the final four. how about the vegas odds now? villanova still 18-1 to win the whole thing. live at villanova, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. i still see villanova getting into the final four. i like jay wright's team? jessica boyington has been watching the roads sfefk specif in south jersey because of the snow. >> is dennis township, right around tyler road. underneath the traffic lights and/or the lighting up the roadway here, you can see that snow falling there. it doesn't seem like it's
accumulating on to the roadways right now. if you look over into the shoulder, that's where you see it, over into the grassy areas. the roads don't seem to be covered in snow right now. still some slippery spots there, at least down by the shore and in dennis township. summer's point as well. vineland, we're watching that accident scene on route 55 southbound around route 56. the alternate right now, we did have that closed headed southbound. now the shoulder is only getting by. stillç possibly some backups there. take delsea drive that runs right next to it and you'll be just fine there. 59 through delaware, no problems there right now. an 11-minute drive time at the most northbound from 295 to 495. i'll be back in the next ten minutes and i'll do a check in with mass transit. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> well, the snow is still falling this morning for some of you, not everybody. but if you're along the shore in
new jersey or along the beaches in sussex county, delaware, you're seeing it come down right now. lewes, that's a good amount of snowfall trying to come down. long neck seeing the snow falling through bethany beach, rehoboth beach. some of the snow is coming down at a good clip. could be sticking to the roadways, especially in some parts of cape may county at the moment. it is on its way out. if you're in cape may county and you're seeing the snow falling, it may last another hour or so at the most. atlantic county, galloway township to ocean city, through atlantic city. light snow falling. some of this is sticking. temperatures in atlantic county are coming in below freezing right now. so in burlington county, kind of the same thing. the snow is falling, mostly grassy accumulations. really not much. little egg harbor seeing more light snowfall there. this is heading into the atlantic.
it's moving from west to east. it's not moving inland. we will be seeing this end very soon here. new england really getting the brunt of this storm. temperature in philadelphia, 31 degrees, 31 washington township. with the wet roads and temperatures still dropping through the area, we could still be seeing slick spots, even in places that aren't seeing the snow currently. 32 in blue bell, allentown 30 in pottstown at the moment. for south jersey, look at the ac airport, 32 degrees, woodbine 32. it is still fairly light. future weather takes the snow, moves it offshore by 7:00 a.m. we are clearing up. by lunch time, nice conditions. if you're in new jersey or delaware this morning, we're seeing that snow falling but really clearing up through 11:00 mid-40s. philadelphia area we'll be seeing improving conditions as far as the clouds clearing out today. by 11:00 a.m., temperatures in the mid-40s. if you're through the lehigh valley and poconos, you are seeing the driest conditions.
again, temperatures are cold this morning. around freezing by lunch time we'll be in the mid-40s. it will be a windy day, too. nice warmup coming in the forecast. we'll look that snow coming up and the warmer temperatures straight ahead. thank you, sheena. here's a sign of spring from the nation's capital. the famed cherryç blossom tree are starting to bloom around the d.c. tidal basin. the floral fireworks were on full display and added color to the cloudy skies. the national park service is forecasting the peak bloom period will start on wednesday. 36 degrees out there on this morning. president obama is in cuba but he's not there for vacation exactly. today the president gets down to business with cuban president raul castro. and a maker of family favorites like cheerios and yoplait is making a change. it's not about what they put in your food, it's about how it's labeled.

morning. >> the snow is still falling in some areas. a look live now at cape may. it has moved out in other areas as we show you a live picture from villanova. roads are wet, drivers could run into slick spots during the morning commute. 5:29. good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. let's start with meteorologist sheena parveen in the first alert forecast. sheena, seems like this storm missed us but the brunt of it is up north in new england states, right? >> yes. the majority part of the heavy snow is hitting parts of boston and new england. locally the snow along the shore at this point and the delaware beaches. this will quickly be moving out. you just saw the video of cape may, the live picture. the snow is coming down. mostly light, some of it could be sticking, though. we do have some areas around 32 degrees. in parts of sussex county, we're starting to see the edge of this snow, lewes, delaware, long neck
and bethany beach are seeing the light snow continuing. cape may, north wildwood, strathmere. atlantic county to the ac expressway. it is ending now. closest to the shore is wherer with seeing the snow falling. into parts of burlington county, we're seeing a lot of the snow come to an end. ocean county seeing that snow continuing. again, it's going to clear up quickly. i think by 7:00 a.m. we should all be in the clear along the shore and in delaware, from the snow which is good. that's a time for the morning commute. 35 degrees in philadelphia. 30 pottstown. 30 in doylestown. the areas seeing the snow, atlantic city is coming in at freezing right now. cape may, temperatures here. a couple degrees above freezing in parts of lower cape may county. we look at cape may courthouse in woodbine. 32 degrees. in these areas we could have slick spots on the road. also keep in mind from the snow
