villanova's delaware county campus. >> good thing the store shelves will be stocked with nova championship gear today. you'll want to dress in layers and bundle up. here's a live look down the shore in cape may. it's going to be a cold one. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary connors. >> and i'm katy zachry. 5:31 on your tuesday championship day. that was awesome, wasn't it? >> philadelphia inquirer, top cats. >> that is what everyone is talking about, that and the weather, not to exclude bill henley. it is downright winter-like outside. >> we have a few snow flurries in the area. dry in center city. this is a live view. it's that cold this morning. 31 now inç northeast philadelphia. 20s for allentown, pottstown and reading and it's down to 32 degrees in wilmington and atlantic city. factor in the wind which has been steady this morning, teens and 20s, a cold morning. it's going to be a blustery day.

sunshine, the clouds will be thinning out later this morning. the temperatures slowly climbing, 36 degrees at 10:00. by 1:00, bright sunshine. look at the wind at 17 miles an hour. that will hold our temperatures back to the 40s today. neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington is watching the roads. how are they doing out there? >> they're doing all right, bill. a lot of the overnight construction cleared out of the way by 5:00 this morning. mt. laurel, new jersey around route 73 and route 70, that circle, not a lot of volume. all cars moving along just fine. another accident on the garden state parkway, this one is also in egg harbor township, garden state parkway northbound right around exit 36 at route 322, the left lane is blocked there. no huge detours behind the scene right now or delays. route 202, doing okay. 11 minutes at the most headed southbound from the schuylkill to route 30. more updates when i come back in the next ten.

rosemary. >> thanks for that, jessica. 5:32 and our region has a national championship team to celebrate. >> what an awesome win last night. the villanova wildcats beat north carolina, the tar heels in a story book finish to an amazing season. it was quite a souvenir for nova nation. the wildcats cut down the net just moments after they won a national championship on a heart-stopping buzzer-beater. >> lauren mayk is live on villanova's campus. earlier this morning it was very busy, very loud. a little bit calmer at this hour. >> yes. i'll also give you weather reporting while we're out here. we're seeing? of the snow flurries. i thought it was extra trash flying around. no. it is definitely snow. you can tell bill about that. i can tell you that the team is going to be coming back to campus today. we learned they'll be coming back this afternoon.

the school is planning some sort of event and sell bralgs for them. we're working to get you the details. we'll keep you updated. if last night was any indication, folks here are going to be pretty excited. take a look at what things looked like here last night. hundreds of students and fans, alumni, they all spilled out on to the streets here, wanting to be a part of things. and police had actually shut down some of the streets here in anticipation of that, knowing that this was going to happen, especially withç a big win. a talked to police and they do tell me there were seven people arrests, 40 injured, mostly minor. this was something that so many people wanted to come out and be a part of. this was the first men's basketball championship in 31 years. >> oh, my gosh, honestly, it just unites us as a community. that's unbelievable. the fact that we wake up and

like, we are the ncaa champions. that's unbelievable. >> they will be waking up champions here when they do wake up, probably sleeping in a little bit this morning. one of the first things on tap when they wake up will be a cleanup on campus. we have seen street sweepers. that will be one of the first orders of business. meanwhile, the team will be waking up champions in houston which is where we find our own matt delucia. matt? >> lauren, i don't think the team has gone to bed yet. i'll it elle i don't you that. they just got back to the team hotel a little while ago, two, two and a half hours ae a s ago. there were 3,000 people at the pregame party next door to the stadium, plenty more were at the game itself. it shows you the dedication of all those people who flew out to houston to watch this final four. the team hotel, busy this morning after that close win.

i was there in the crowd watching those final seconds. this one brought out even more excitement than saturday night's game against oklahoma. this one much closer, much more of a nail biter. the villanova crowd was intense and even some of the players couldn't believe what was happening. >> i saw the shot went in and i saw my teammates running to chris. everything was happening in slow motion for me. i didn't know what to do. >> and talk about a nail biter, at halftime, a lot of people expected north carolina to pull off the win but nova nation in the stadium kept that momentum going. there were lines of people waiting to buy championship hats and shirts after the game. students were clearly excited to head back to villanova with this wind. >> i'm a freshman. it can only go up from here.

henley. >> if some of that clothing could come in the form of a thick wool sweater, that would help on a day like this. it's cold. dropped to 31 degrees in northeast philadelphia. look at the winds gusting to 24 miles an hour. cold enough for snow. lauren mayk mentioned it at the villanova campus. it's spreading into delaware county and radnor township, falling right in villanova. may look like confetti to some. that is snow. it is light. we'll see sunshine during the day, steadier, heavier snow is exiting southern delaware after falling overnight. the temperatures will be climbing but not much of a warmup. only into the 30s for the pocono mountains. low 40s for allentown, reading, quakertown at 41 degrees. sunshine and wind. we'll warm into the 40s but it will feel like 475 in vineland. 46 for cape may. 45 in west chester, drexel hill and swedesboro into the middle

now to new information in the bill cosby case. he has partially won a motion to put a defamation lawsuit against him on hold. cosby wanted the case, playing out in massachusetts, put on hold until his case in montgomery county is resolved. a judge decided to partially grant the motion, deciding to block discovery involving cosby but the case isn't stayed in any other respect. both cases involve women who have accused cosby of sexual misconduct. cosby denies the allegation. 67 puppies saved from a freezing van in north jersey will need new homes. police say the animals were in deplorable conditions in a van parked outside a just pups store in paramus. 15 of the dogs needed medical attention. the owner is expected to face charges. he was charged in february for

animal cruelty and the conditions at another one his stores. he says he is unfairly targeted. >> neither i nor any employee of mine is guilty of any of the crime. >> the own her no comment about yesterday's incident. right now, the white house is looking at a new law in north carolina that curbs transgender rights. the white house is trying to determine if the law could impact federal aid to that state. the law bans transgender people from using bathrooms, rest rooms in line with their gender identity. yesterday white house spokesman josh earnest said he's not aware any federal aid to north carolina that would be affected. he said a number of government agencies are looking at the situation right now. ernest added that the new law does not create a friendly business environment if certain people are being singled out. let's head to tennessee where federal investigators have been on the scene of a helicopter crash near the great smoky mountains national park in the eastern part of the state.

five people died when the to tourist chopper came down yesterday. it was destroyed by fire after the crash. high winds have made fighting the fire very difficult. back here in our area. 42 tons of sand got dumped on to penn plaza not by accident. it will be used in an international festival of arts performance. the show called article 13 uses sand, fire and water to tell the story of immigrants and their search for a better life. 5:45 now. to the victors go the spoils. you areç looking at villanova hoisting up the ncaa championship trophy in houston last night just moments after winning the title at the buzzer. the wildcats will be bringing that trophy home to the main line later today. it's not just people on the main line who are celebrating. >> this is a win for everybody here in the philadelphia region. something for us to celebrate. and something i'm sure that will

be the talk of breakfast over coffee, a stack of pancakes at the melrose diner. that's where we find nbc 10's pamela osborne. what are you hearing from folks inside the diner? >> rosemary, katy, it is everything anybody is talking about this morning. it may be early. it may have been a late night but it wasn't that just for students. many of the people in the diner were up watching that game last night. everyone is so excited about this win. a lot of nova fans we spoke to really just savoring that victory. one of the ways fans are showing their support by purchasing championship apparel. take a look. we just got this video into our newsroom. these are lines in houston. so many nova fans are now trying to pick up a t-shirt or some kind of item to mark the occasion here and not to worry. for those of us here at home, we still have plenty of opportunities to get our hands

on merchandise as well. the campus book store will be getting their stuff in later this morning. dick's sporting goods will have official ncaa wildcat gear up for sale. meanwhile, we did talk with one man, he said he is ready to partake in this huge celebration that will take place later this evening. >> i was here working watching the game. >> what did you think? >> best game in the world. that was a pretty game. nice game, yes. they are supposed to be having some kind of parade. i will be there. >> and one more thing. you can also already preorder some of the model gear on the website. we have a link to that on our website, nbc10.com. also just a lot of excitement there. those boys are expected back on campus around 4:30, 5:00 this evening. again, there is some kind of celebration that's being planned for working to find out exactly when and where that will be, of course we'll keep you updated. reporting live in south philly,

pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> thanks to are that, pamela. the phillies are also paying tribute to the wildcats. the team tweeted this photo of the phanatic kissing the villanova emblem. now nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley.ç >> 12 minutes before 6:00. it's a cold one this morning. clouds are moving through, actually blowing through the area. those are cold, gusty winds. it's 32 degrees in philadelphia. winds are gusting to 24 miles an hour. right now it's 11 degrees colder than yesterday. it's cold. it is going to be blowing through the area through the day today. most of the area seeing clouds, everybody's going to see that wind. we'll continue into the afternoon hours. 21 mile-an-hour wind gust in allentown, 28 miles an hour in wildwood. riding in on those winds, some very light snow showers.

you might see a flurry or two. steadier in radnor, just approaching the villanova campus. during the day it will be out of here. we'll get sunshine. not much of a warmup. 40s this afternoon. with the wind blowing, those numbers will feel like they're in the 30s during the day today. colder tomorrow, the wind dies down tonight. with clear skies, that will allow the temperatures to get colder, 27 in the morning. but it will also allow for a warmup in the afternoon. 55 degrees on wednesday and 60s for thursday. 60 degrees with rain moving into the area and we'll be around for much of the day on thursday. but then clearing out and cooling down friday and even colder this weekend. 30s and 40s on saturday. the wind will be blowing once again to make it feel colder. by sunday morning it will be colder, down to 30 degrees. 5:49 on this tuesday. we know that folks are just about getting up for that morning commute. >> yes. they could be bleary eyed, too, after a late night watching the nova win.

jessica boyington, are you watching any issues? >> 95, no huge issues yet. so far we're starting to see a little bit of traffic out there. no backups or delays. we do have construction, though, on 95. this is right around cottman avenue. it's ongoing work. the off ramps to girard avenue and aramingo avenue are closed for that ongoing work. southbound drive times, cottman avenue, no problems. woodhaven road to the vine street expressway is only a 14-minute trip there. speeds still in the 60s if you're heading towards the center city area. we are watching the garden state parkway, also second accident of the morning. it's surprising out in egg harbor township. northbound, exit 36 around 322. the left lane is blocked there. more updates when i'm back in the next ten. nova nation takeover. we cannot get enough of that elation as fans here at xfinity live celebrate the villanova
