this is nbc 10 news. bullets fly and rip through a philadelphia row home overnight and police tell us the victim managed to get himself to the hospital. we'll explain in a live report. the democraticç presidenti candidates are in philadelphia today as they turn their focus to pennsylvania's upcoming primary. we are off to another cold start but the sun will be shining today to warm us up a bit. here's a live look. i believe that's downtown narberth. i believe we're in -- yes, we're in narberth in montgomery county. we'll get your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast in just moments. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary connors. >> and i'm katy zachry. it is 5:30 on your wednesday.

chilly in philadelphia, about 32 degrees. the good news is, bill says we don't have snow in the forecast like we had yesterday and the wind is a little less severe, right, bill? >> there's very little wind this morning and most of the area is calm which has allowed the temperatures to get colder than yesterday. it doesn't feel as cold thanks to the wind chill taking a break. 32 degrees in philadelphia and wilmington. that's warmer than when we went on the air at 4:00 this morning. it's colder in pottstown and doylestown. toms river at 18 degrees, south philadelphia 22 while roxborough and northeast philadelphia are in the upper 20s. a kaeld start. look at the sunshine. 41 at 10:00 and then we'll be on the verge of 50 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon and warming into the 50s today. neighborhood by neighborhood forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. we'll see how the roads are running with no precipitation in the area. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> at least we don't have to worry about the rain, bill. we do have to worry about some

accident scenes. here's one approaching the schuylkill expressway from the girard avenue on ramp. you can see that we're over into the shoulder right now. we do have the lane after the rap -- ramp getting by. this is approaching the schuylkill expressway eastbound. we had a vehicle that crashed into this right-hand guardrail here, into the cement barrier. it was completely facing the opposite direction. they've turned that around, moved it up in this direction, it's right underneath our graphic in this area. we have police activity and at least a lane getting by on the ramp. traffic can still get on to the schuylkill expressway. no huge delays but definitely something that could be a problem, especially because you consider there are some people pulling away and police officers walking around with pedestrians on scene. we want it to be a careful situation when you're heading through here. small delays but no delays heading towards center city right now on the schuylkill expressway. >> 5:32 on this wednesday. the race for the white house

comes to philadelphia today. >> that's right. hillary clinton and bernie sanders both are making appearances in the city just a fewç weeks before pennsylvania primary. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live for us in center city where hillary clinton will be later today. hi, pamela. >> good morning. again, another opportunity for these candidates to get their message across to voters. today secretary hillary clinton will be addressing p.a. union leaders at the convention here at the sheraton. bernie sanders is fresh off his primary win over clinton last night in wisconsin. he will discuss a wide range of issues such as climate change and his plans to make public colleges and universities tuition-free. that event is free and open to the public. doors opening at 5:00. it will be the second stop for sanders who is also planning to meet with african-american leaders at tinley united

methodist church in center city tomorrow. he's scheduled to speak at the pennsylvania afl/cio. clinton and that is where we find her at 11:00 a.m., she'll speak before a crowd of about 1,000 union leaders from across the state at the sheraton in center city. local union leaders say pennsylvania will play an important role in the election but haven't decided which candidate they'll back. >> well, i want them to take away a special knowledge of pennsylvania and the issues that face us. pennsylvania has some different nuances that other folks don't have. both candidates have been great about listening to folks and talking to folks about what's important to working families, here in philly, the dredging of the philadelphia port for the bigger ships from the panama canal will create thousands of jobs. >> reporter: and governor wolf also scheduled to speak and make an appearance here tomorrow. reporting live in center city,

new from overnight, a man is shot and a home is riddled with bullets in a philadelphia neighborhood. nbc 10's deanna durante is live for us in the logan section of the city to tell us what happened. hi, deanna. >> reporter: good morning, katy. this happened before 10:30 last night, we're told, that a 24-year-old man was leaving a home on a 1,000 block of wagner street when someone shot at him. he was shot twice in the arm and managed to get himself to the hospital. the police have spent the overnight hours talking to witnesses and people inside that house. they tell us there were 12 people in the home, including small children. >> we're very lucky that of those 12 people inside the property none of them were struck by gunfire. none of them were injured in any way. it was just the 24-year-old victim who just exited the property who was shot. >> now, at this point, police say that the 24-year-old has given them no indication as to

why someone would want to shoot him if he was targeted. police think that perhaps those schatz were fired from a moving vehicle that was driving by that house as the 24-year-old was leaving. again, they have been talking with people inside the house as well as gathering evidence from outside, including those spent shell casings. they are also looking at surveillance video to see if that will lead them to who pulled the trigger. reporting live in the city's logan section, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> nova -- >> nation! >> nova -- >> nation! >> get ready for more of this on friday. the honors continue for the villanova wildcats after their national championship. yesterday, fans showed their appreciation for the team during this homecoming inside the football stadium. the team showed off the trophy they brought home after beating north carolina at the buzzer on monday night. >> yes, everyone wants to see that trophy. coach jay wright stirred the crowd up. >> nova nation!

[ cheers and applause ] >> you guys stick with us. >> thousands of villanova fans packed the stadium to welcome home the first national champions in 31 years. the team's planes were sprayed by water cannons as it arrived at the philadelphia international airport yesterday. then the wildcats buses had a police escort, even on the blue route to campus. rush hour drivers pulled over to take pictures of the bus.ç >> looking outside, see the nova fans, people pulling over, beeping the horns, putting their vs up and everything. it was an unbelievable feeling. >> when i saw them shut down 95, you know what that means in philly at 6:00. >> it's crazy people were pulling over on the side of the road because they had to but they were getting out of the car to take photos of the bus driving by. it's pretty surreal. >> pretty surreal indeed. the team is looking forward to friday's parade through center city philadelphia. nbc 10 will be there to bring it to you live. and we are covering all

low 50s at the shore. the wind will pick up out of the south during the afternoon hours. cape may 51 degrees, 55 in dover. rehoboth will warm to 53 this afternoon. plenty of sunshine, brilliant sunshine this morning. 55 in philadelphia. west chester up to 53 and swedesboro, a high of 53 degrees as well. there's warmer weather ahead and some wet weather, too, i've got your seven-day forecast when i'm become in ten minutes. 5:40 on this wednesday. we know folks are trying to get up, go back to work for folks at villanova, go back to school. >> i know. jessica's been following an accident on the schuylkill expressway right around girard avenue which can definitely slow you down if you're making your way through that area. >> we do have an accident scene on the schuylkill expressway coming off of the ramp at girard avenue. the on ramp is currently still off. no huge delays behind that. there is police activity on the scene. use caution when traveling out the door.

welcome back. it is just about 5:45 and temperatures are hovering around freezing if you're waking up in the philadelphia area. today the mayor and other philadelphia officials will join victims' families for the ground breaking on a memorial to honor those killed in the center city building collapse that took place three years ago. crews will build the memorial on the southeast corner of 22nd and market streets. that's where six people died and more than a dozen others were

injured june of 2013 when a building under demolition collapsed into the adjoining salvation army thrift store. a contractor and subcontractor who took a plea deal are serving time in prison for their role in the collapse. officials say chaka fattah's wife may be exposed to liability as well. prosecutors claim former nbc 10 news anchor renee chenault-fattah helped disguise an $18,000 bribe as payment for the sale of her porsche. prosecutors went on to say in that motion that in a recorded call, renee chenault-fattah told an insurance company that she was keeping the car in her garage. federal prosecutors hope to play that tape at her husband's trial next month. we asked congressman fattah about the new motion yesterday. >> are you surprised they're talking about your wife now in this filing and all? >> no one is talking about my

wife other than the inaccurate, misleading statements that were provided by government attorneys. the question is, why would they say something inaccurate in a court of law? >> on facebook, chenault-fattah posted a message from her attorney saying the motion is inaccurate and misleading. she maintains she legally sold her car to a friend after exchange ofç title and bill of sale. a judge has rule that atlantic city violated an agreement to pay millions to one casino. the cash-strapped city reached a settlement with the borgata to repay more than $88 million in taxes. the ruling allows the casino to take the matter to trial in tax court but the judge ordered the parties to continue to try and settle the fight out of court through mediation. governor chris christie is taking action, just a week after the nbc 10 investigators revealed that money men the to protect against lead was instead

spent on salaries and pensions. christie promises to spend $10 million to fight lead poisoning. the nbc 10 investigator series "living with lead" followed the money and found the remediation found raided and depleted. we found lead-based paint poisoned thousands of new jersey children. state lawmakers tried to pass legislation to put money back in the state's lead fund but christie vetoed it. now there's a promise. >> there was a problem presented to the governor who is a concern in the legislature. he's moving forward in a positive direction and we'll continue to do more to make sure we are dealing with this issue in an effective and aggressive way. that's all that matters to me. >> we want to do more and we think it's the right thing to do to protect our children and their families. >> new jersey will spend about 20,000 today's get the lead paint out of a single home. at that rate, the money will pay to make 500 new jersey homes

tv. twitter's package will include in-game highlights of the thursday games and pregame periscope broadcasts fromç players and teams. from pro football to pro hockey, the flyers play one of their biggest games of the year this evening as they continue to make their push into the postseason. the team takes on the red wings in detroit. the team practiced in south jersey yesterday as they prepared for the matchup. the orange and black are in a close battle with the red wings and boston bruins for the final wild card spot in the east. and they know how much is on the line tonight. >> you know, we have four games left. we're aware of the situation we're in. it will be important for us to play our best hockey and be ready to go. >> i would say we all know how big of a game it is. we just have to make sure we find a way to win. >> and also coming up -- >> could it be? could it be? it is out of here!

narberth, haverford avenue, that's the bottom of the irish tricolor. it's barely moving. the wind has died down this morning. it will be light to start with. a nice breeze develops this afternoon. by this afternoon, the cold temperatures will be gone. 20s, low 20s at that for pottstown and doylestown. toms river down to 16 degrees. at freezing for philadelphia. harrison township in gloucester county 24. mullica hill, 22 degrees this morning. you'll have to bundle up. you'll also need sunglasses. completely dry this morning. clouds will be here later today and tonight. that will lead to -- no, not snow, rain for us. it's also going to bring in some very warm air tomorrow and we'll see a few scattered showers at this time tomorrow morning right along the coast. theç steadier rain will be to e west, but it will be arriving during the later morning hours at 9:00, moving into the western suburbs and heavier downpours. even a possibility of thunderstorms. that's 1:00 tomorrow afternoon.

and still a possibility of showers during the afternoon and evening commute tomorrow. but today, we stay dry and see the temperatures climb. mostly sunny. especially this morning. and a little bit breezy this afternoon. it will be in the 50s today and heading for 60 degrees tomorrow. 61 tomorrow afternoon, in spite of the rain. but then, the showers move out for the most part. there's a slight chance of shower. friday may impact the parade in center city for villanova. 54 with a breezy day on friday. a better chance of showers and colder saturday. the cold stays with us sunday. a nice warmup just in time for the phillies to take the field for monday and tuesday. all right, bill, thank you. a lot of celebrations in the sports world coming up. friday we have the parade for villanova and then the phillies home opener. hopefully the rain will hold off. >> that's what we're hoping. jessica boyington has our traffic this morning and jessica, you're starting us off on 95. >> that's right. 95 looks okay, even through the work zone. we do have the off ramps closed,

95 at girard avenue and 95 around aramingo avenue headed southbound. around common avenue, a little bit of brake lights headed in the southbound direction towards center city. we're at a 14-minute drive time, southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway. the northbound lanes doing a bit better. we don't normally see as much of a delay there. south 8th street is closed between union street and lehigh street. if you're on the new jersey turnpike, this is right around the delaware memorial bridge. no problems in either direction. roadways are dry. >> jessica, thank you. there's a turkey takeover happening in bergen county, new jersey. coming up -- >> aaah! >> that sounds terrifying. wild turkeys are terrorizing a neighborhood. now the community is trying to figure out how to fight back.
