talked during the break how i don't like the hot weather. you and our producer colleen, you know, like the hot weather. >> we do. >> let's bring in meteorologist bill henley who's tracking all of this. it's warm right now, but we're experiencing a little bit of rain. >> you don't have to worry about hot today, vai, i'll tell you that much. we're getting cold this weekend. >> good. not too cold. just cool it's dry and cloudy but a little bit breezy to start this morning. that helps with the warmup and it's much warmer this morning. 56 degrees now. it's 24 degrees warmer than yesterday morning at this time. dry in philadelphia, but you can see the rain to the west. that's in central pennsylvania with heavier downpours to the south. those are due in right around midday. so rainy weather is on the way. the temperatures will be warm g warming. 50s to start with. we'll warm into the very low 60s today. the rain coming in at 11:00. 60 degrees by 2:00 this afternoon.

the rain cools things down just a bit. there's even a chance we'll see thunderstorms today. i'll go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. we'll see how the roads are looking. jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> we haven't seen this out in trenton, new jersey, where we have a downed pole in the area. cleanup under way right around sullivan way. all lanes are currently being closed and detoured around the scene. a lot of it around the scene. give it five or ten minutes. here's the whitehorse pike. you can see no problems throughout the intersection. not a lot of cars out there as well. some construction out in warrenton. that's closed between fairmount. another day or so for that. watch for stadium traffic. of course, this is later on this evening. flyer game. you can expect some until after

they leave the stadium. rosemary. round 2 for bernie sanders. >> last night. sanders slammed his opponent saying clinton isn't qualified. clinton spoke yesterday in a push to win pennsylvania. nbc 10's pamela os borne is in center city with a preview. good morning, pamela. >> reporter: good morning, vai and rosemary. this is another opportunity for sanders to get to voters. he'll be speaking with union leaders from across the state at the afl-cio cop vengs. last night senator rallied with the crowd of more than 10,000 voters. at that rally he went after clinton telling rallygoers that he didn't believe she's qualified. >> i won seven of the eight

caucuses so somebody must be doing something right. one of the points we've been making is in poll after poll when i am up against donald trump and she's up against donald trump, we do much better. if voters want a candidate who can actually beat trump or some other candidate, we can be that candidate. >> we spoke with former governor ed rendell. he said sanders should tone down his criticism and clinton should avoid taking the bait. we spoke with sanders last night one on one. one of things he's in favor of is trade policies. he supports them for american workers over ceos. likely one of the talk points they'll talk to this morning less than three weeks ahead of the pennsylvania primary. reporting live in center city this morning, i'm pamela osborne, "nbc 10 news." >> thank you.

there's 210 delegates up for grabs. right now hillary clinton is still far ahead of bernie sanders. she has 1, 692. bernie sanders has 1,037. the fight for those delegates is fierce in philadelphia as you can imagine. >> clinton was in town where san kearse is speaking today. they're both looking for the key endorsement from the afl-cio in pennsylvania. yesterday hillary clinton spoke with union workers. she started off her speech with a little bit of love for the ville know va wildcats. take a listen. >> bill and i got home and were watching it, sitting on the edge of our seats. it was so exciting it nearly made my husband forget and

forgive villanova for being his alma mater georgetown back in 1985. >> clinton left the convention. today she's in colorado and ohio. nonetheless the clinton machine continues to drum up support in pennsylvania. a little bit later on bill clinton will be at the darcy ann rec center in the cedarville, philadelphia, neighborhood. >> he took aim at republican rival ted cruz and his new york criticism of value. take a look. >> do you remember during the debate when he started lecturing me on new york values leak we're no good. and i started to eed talking t about the world trade center and the bravery, incredible bravery of everybody. >> police estimate there there were about 1,000 protesters at last night's rally.

friday and then not begun until may 6th. governor chris christie slams the mayor saying, he has no idea what he's doing. yesterday they held dueling news conferences. they were within feet of each other. they have plans to battle them out. he no longer backs the plan to bail out the city. christie quickly explained why he was refusing to sit down with the mayor who was in a room next door. >> because there's no purpose in meeting with a liar. >> if we do a fwruptcy, it's not an atlantic city bankruptcy. it's a chris christie bankruptcy. he's stauvg us. >> now the debates are going to continue into trenton as to how to bail out the casino town. they're introducing a new plan, one he says that will establish new goals that atlantic city is going to have to meet before the state takes over its finances. plans have already been passed

by the senate and has christie's backing but critics say it gives too much power over the collective garn iing. new at 6:00, new jersey lawmakers are considering a tax on glass and bottles and aluminum cans. according to our partner the philadelphia sentinel journal, they would help the state with two environmental issues. first it would encourage people to recycle bottles and cans, and second, money from the tax would pay for improvement in the schools where lead has been detected in the water. nine minutes after 6:00 and less than half a hour away. we've got to a mild one. the clouds are not producing any rain just yet but that's a different story later this afternoon. i'm tracking showers already in pennsylvania. this weekend, cold and a chance of showers and not just rain.

we may see some snow showers in the area come saturday. this morning, 50 degrees in doylestown. northeast philadelphia is 56. and 54 in mild in millville. look at the clouds blowing in. not too windy. there are some stronger gusts right along the coastline. 30-mile-an-hour wind gusts for wildwood and atlantic city. 18 miles an hour in northeast philadelphia and 23 mile s an hour in trenton. dry this hour but western and central pennsylvania, you can see the rain. moderate showers in south central pennsylvania. look to the south and here's where we're seeing the heavier rainfall and this is tracking our way for later this way and this afternoon. don't forget your umbrella. you won't need a heavy coat like you did yesterday. rain moving in. temperaturess moving into the upper 50s.

16 minutes after 6:00. people up and at 'em this morning. a little bit warmer to say the least from the past few days. that's because we've got to rain on the way. meteorologist bill henley will have the details in the full forecast coming up. new, we're talking about newtown middle school. this all happened in the same town as sandy hook elementary. police have arrested jason adams and have charged him with possession of a weapon. this morning he's on adm administrative leave from that middle school. you may remember in 2012 a man shot 20 first graders and six

teachers at sandy hook elementary in newtown. back here at home the pico building is honoring the national champion the villanova wildcats. the message board will continue scrolling the message congratulating the winners through saturday morning. you know you've made it when you get your picture on the front page of the "daily news" and the inquire r and you get the pico sign. >> villanova has canceled all school tomorrow so they can attend the parade. >> like they had to officially do it. they'll make one-day passes available for students, faculty, and staff. it begins at 1:00 tomorrow. it will run five blocks to dilworth park in front of city hall and there would be road closures that would impact the traffic so you would know about that. keep that in mind. no parking signs, meanwhile, are going up along the parade

miles an hour. that will help with the warmup and help push temperatures even as the clouds start producing rain later th er thir this morns afternoon. it's already in central pennsylvania. look at the line of some more moderate showers. even the possibility of heavy downpours with this one. massive snow to the noncht there's cold air lurking off to the northwest. that arrives for the weekend. but today it's only going to be welt. by 11:00 we'll see steadier rainfall in wilmington and philadelphia and even the possibility of a thunderstorm as we go into the afternoon hours. that's 1:00 this afternoon. then we'll get a break, maybe even a little bit of snipe. 3:00. there will still be a few scattered showers and as we go through the evening hours, wilmington might have a delay. then things change for tomorrow. 1:00 in the morning, a little

bit chilly to start with. we'll be dry during the day for friday, so it's good news for the villanova parade. today, though, will not be dry. rain moving in. a chance of some thunderstorms. high temperatures in tupper 50s and low 60s. that's typical for this time of year. it gets chillier tomorrow with the wind shifting. we'll see clouds, breaks of sunshine, but mainly dry. 54 after a low of 41. then the temperatures plunge into saturday. 35 saturday morning. we may see some scattered snow showers saturday morning, possibly even grassy accumulation to the north but then rain and 60 in the afternoon. the showers will be out of here sunday, 49. look at the warmup next week. we'll be dry in the afternoon. a chance of evening showers. 63 with showers on tuesday and then we finally get snienld mild temperatures on the same day, wednesday. april showers go. to deal with it. all right. 6:20 on this thursday. i'm sure a lot of folks are getting up, getting ready to go

>> what a warmup. we're already in the mid-50s this morning. bill henley is tracking some showers this morning as well. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm vai sikahema. >> and i'm rosemy connors. the wet weather is coming in the next few hours. let's get more in the next few hours. good morning, bill. >> good morning. not going to see sunshine. this is a live view from chestnut hill which is completely dry and about 25 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. a much warmer morning, but it is going to get damp. dry right now. look to the west. you can see the showers already moving through pennsylvania. that's part of the line that will move through washington and be here later this morning and through the afternoon. with that line will come a chance of thunderstorms. but in spite of all that, these numbers will be climbing.

now the news down the shore. atlantic city leaders have made a move to stave off the city hall shutdown that was due to take effect tomorrow. yesterday they voted unanimously to adopt a 28-day payroll cycle stind of a 14-day two-week cycle. this will allow them to collect may 1st tax revenue to stay afloat. workers will get paid this friday but then not again till may 6. in the meantime the state senate has approved a stake takeover plan by governor chris christie. today the state assembly will consider an alternative plan that would establish goals that atlantic city would have to reach before the city takes over city finances. and today philadelphia archbishop chaput will host elementary month. he'll honor students from throughout the diocese. the archbishop will give a speech and offer a blessing. you play remember in 2012 the

church convicted him over a sex abuse case involving a priest. that decision was overturned. today governor tom wolf will sign an executive order. lit prevent discrime nation from people based on gender identity. he'll call on them to pass it. he wants to make clear that pennsylvania is inclusive, welcoming, and open to business for everyone. also today the philadelphia gay news will celebrate its 40th anniversary. it will commemorate a special edition tonight at the academy of fine arts. what a turnaround. 55 degrees.

a mild morning but a cloudy one. we're waiting for the cluds to produce rain, tracking showers, and a chance of thunderstorms. they'll be here later this morning. this weekend, though, cold comes back. don't get used to the mild weather. even a chance of rain and snow showers. right now, dry, 51 degrees in reading. the clouds are in place. it's 52 degrees in cape may. they've covered the field. rain will be moving in. there is a chance that some showers will delay the home opener at just after 6:00 this even. cloudy right now. this morning we'll start seeing nothing but clouds. the clouds are producing rain in central pennsylvania. heavy downpours. this is the line that's going to be here later this morning and into tachb. it's not going to be here all day. the potential for showers and thunderstorms will be on the move. light rain mainly in the

flyers will hit the ice, this time at the wells fargo center as we take a live look at south philadelphia. the puck drops against the maple leafs at 7:00 this evening and it's one of three games left this season and the flyers are making postseason push. the push has gotten a little harder after a loss last night. red wings shutting out the flyers, 3-0. they're leading the fliers in the wild-card chase. it wasn't any better for the phils.

they blew a lead. 3-2. the phillies clois out the series with the red this afternoon. first pitch at 12:35. nbc 10 your home for phillies' home opener. the pregame special begins at 2:00 p.m. the first pitch begins at 3:00 right here on nbc 10. and villanova university canceled all classes tomorrow. >> i think if they didn't do that, they'd have empty classrooms with professors in the front wondering where everybody is. they're all going to be downtown in center city so they can be there for the victory parade that begins tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. there will be some road closures that could impact traffic throughout our area, so keep it in mind. before the parade, the players are getting a chance to unwind. >> i stayed in my room, ate some

we're going to keep an eye on the sky. the clouds are already here. we're waiting for rain. you can see a little break in the clouds. before that happens, we'll see rain 56. the wind out of the south is helping the keep temperatures warm in spite of the rain coming in. what a cold start. 40ss. it will warm into the upper ep and low 60s. it's warm right now but the rain has been slowly moving through pennsylvania and the south. the lineup of steady showers, that's a possibility for us later this afternoon. to the north, that's where the cold air is holding for now. look at the showers moving through eastern north dakota and into minnesota. that's our weekend. that's saturday for us. a chance of some showers.
