>> it's crazy. it's scary. you don't want to see nothing like that. stuff like that don't happen on my block. police are hunting for an attacker who abducted and raped a woman in west philadelphia. putting her through a 12-hour ordeal before she managed to escape and flag down a car for help. and the flyers are on home ice today as their quest for the cup comes back to philadelphia for game six of their first-round series with the capitals. it's right here on nbc 10. and taking a look outside, this is a live look at the philadelphia museum of art. the sun is coming up. you will need a jacket early, don't be deceived by what it looks like. it's chilly but we are looking for a warmup later today and temperatures will climb higher, i'm told, tomorrow. good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today, i'm katy zachry, it's 6:00 a.m. on sunday
morning. we're talking about a chilly start but warmer temperatures are in the future. let's get right to karen thomas with our neighborhood weather. it's a detailed forecast focus odden where you live. zma karen? >>. this time yesterday it was almost 60 degrees warmer than today. temperatures today mainly in the 40s. 46 in philadelphia but we have nothing but clear skies. mostly clear in south jersey and you can tell by a live camera view all the way across the entire delaware valley, even the lehigh value, just beautiful sky coverage because we don't have any clouds to worry about. we're waiting for the official sunrise at 6:12, but the pictures coming in are quite lovely. what we can expect today, high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. so warming up for from where we are right now but we're going to be quite seasonable at about 66 degrees for a high temperature. we'll bump just a little bit
higher at 66 in philadelphia and the lehigh valley we're talking easton, beautiful sky, 40 degrees, 53 degrees with sunshine at 9:00 and then about lunchtime, midday, close to 60 degrees for our high temperature there. so we are off to a cool start. but high pressure in play and it's going to continue to give us just a beautiful spring-like picture as we move through our sunday. katy? new this morning, a teenager is dead, gunned down in philadelphia's feltonville neighborhood. nbc 10's monique braxton is live at the scene. you've been out there for some time, you've been able to speak to investigators, what's the latest on the search for this gunman? >> hi, katy. crime scene investigators have been on the scene for more than an hour. we've been watching them initially with flashlights searching for evidence such as bullet casings and now with the
light of day they're going to hopefully get a better look at what transpired on the street and what is left behind from the actual crime that occurred. investigators tell us they were called here to the 400 block of wyoming about two hours ago. we've also learned there was an argument between teens at the emergency cafe lounge. then a 17-year-old was shot in the chest outside. now, that teen victim was taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital, he has passed away. i asked police about teens at the hookah bar and they told us they're trying to determine if there was a special activity going on. right now, a clear motive isn't known, but i can tell you we've learned homicide detectives are here on the scene. they're also at the hospital speaking with the victims' friends. now, when we arrived, all of the businesses here in the 400 block of wyoming were closed, there were no residents who live above up at the time. we're going to try to touch base
with homicide as well as see what the victims heard and saw. life from now in feltonville, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> monique, we'll see you then. this morning a woman is recovering after being abducted by a man, then she was duct taped and raped. investigators say the man forced here into a car near 49th street and lancaster avenue around 4:00 a.m. yesterday morning. nearly 12 hours later, she was finally able to free herself about two miles away from the location at south 57th street and larchwood avenue. police say she escaped from a black four door car with a garbage bag over a rear window. neighbors say they saw the 20-year-old woman walking on the sidewalk. they say she looked to be in bad shape. she was treated at temple university hospital and released late last night. police say the man they're looking for around 23 years old and has dreadlocks and a long beard. 6:04 now. almost time for voters in
pennsylvania and delaware. hillary clinton will be visiting churches in philadelphia today to try and get out the vote before tuesday's primaries. well, tomorrow she will be in both philly and in wilmington, delaware. in the morning, clinton will be at world cafe live at the queen in downtown wilmington. then in the evening she has a g get out the vote event. both events are free. bernie sanders visited wilmington yesterday, tomorrow night he'll rally at drexel university's athletic center. he is calling for voters to get to the polls because he says he does not do well in small turnout state. officials say he would need a small miracle to make up the delegate count. and on the republican side john kasich is asking voters to be at the polls. he's going to be at the penn rose diner in south philadelphia tomorrow. kasich is far behind the polls
to ted cruz and republican up frommer donald trump in all five states voting tomorrow. trump will be in the philly 'burbs tomorrow as well. he'll visit west chester university. analysts say big wins on tuesday will make it easier for him to carry the nomination at the convention. ted cruz met with potential delegates yesterday in western pennsylvania. he will not be in our area today. instead, he is putting his focus on upcoming races in the midwest where he hauopes to beat donald trump. how is the republican party dealing with trump's front-runner status? chuck todd on "meet the press" will go over the gop stages of grief. we'll be tracking all the candidates' visits to our areas and beyond with the nbc 10 app. plus you can see the delegate count and check the dates for upcoming caucuses and primaries by just downloading that free app.
it's 6:06. from our south jersey bureau, volunteers doing cleanup at cooper river make a disturbing discovery. they pulled up a human skull. now, they found in the the cooper river at gateway park on admiral wilson boulevard. more than 100 volunteer there is were part of a cleanup effort yesterday. one of them reached down into the mud to pick up what first looked like a water bottle but it was actually a skull. police and the coroner are trying to determine whose remains they are. in burlington county, a man faces cruelty charges for allegedly killing a six-month-old puppy. the spca says the dog's body was found at a recycling bin in a motel along route 130 in florence. the suspect, richard desaco, told police the dog was causing problems for him so he allegedly hit the animal with the back of an ax. desaco had been watching the puppy for its owner.
well, we are just about six hours from the flyers when they will try and tie up their playoff series with the washington capitols. right now the flyers are down 3-2 in the series. but they have momentum after winning the last two games and they'll be cheered on by their hometown crowd at the wells fargo center for game six, a very important detail we can't forget. the organization hopes those fans behave themselves today. the flyers are giving away these shirts at the game. the shirts say "stay classy, philly" of course this follows game three where flyers fans threw lit up bracelets on the ice. the bracelets had been given out for a light show in honor of their founder. we have today's game on nbc 10. join me along with john clark and monique braxton for a live fliered up pre-game show at 11:30. game six begins here on nbc 10 at noon.

jersey. pine hollow 46 degrees right now. pemberton 4500 lumberton 44. it's chilly. these temperatures just about 20 degrees colder than this time yesterday morning, we were on the mild side yesterday 40, degrees, coyle 23450efield, 41 degrees. so if you are heading out early you want to put on a light jacket we here in the 30s in ho hopewell so if you have an event, cool start for sure. plenty of sunshine on tap, that will make it feel nice this afternoon. high pressure in play. we don't have clouds to worry about, then turning much warmer for the start of our next work week. monday looking like you may not even need a jacket. so we are looking for temperatures and sunshine -- temperatures in the 60s, sunshine, the 'burbs looking

welcome back. it's 6:15. north korea says it has successfully test fired a ballistic missile from a submarine, strengthening its nuclear attack capabilities. south korea confirmed the launch but says the missile only traveled 19 miles. south korean experts say it's unlikely the north currently possesses an operational submarine that can fire multiple missiles but they acknowledge the north is making progress on that technology. in ohio, police are still trying to figure out who killed eight members of the same family and why. nbc's chris pollone has more on the this investigation and audio of the frantic call. >> reporter: pike county, ohio, a call just before 8:00 friday morning. >> tell me what's going on. >> there's blood all over the house.
>> reporter: police would discover eight people dead, all from the same extended family at fo four homes miles apart. they say none committed suicide so at least one may be on the loose. >> we don't know whether we're talking about one individual or two or three or more. we simply don't know that at this point. >> reporter: the victims, seven adults and a boy ranging from 16 to 44 years old. some found in bed suggesting they were shot execution style while they slept. three children survived, a toddler, a six-month-old and a newborn four days old found in the same room as their murdered mother. the family was identified and well known in this rural community. >> this community is heartbroken, shocked, wondering how could this possibly happen to us. >> reporter: saturday? a statement, surviving members of the family asked for prayers and privacy. >> the family would like to thank everyone for all the outpouring of prayers and support for their family. >> reporter: a cincinnati businessman has put up a $25,000
reward to help identify the killer as answers about these horrific murders remain hard to find. chris pollone, nbc news, new york. u.s. army officials are looking into what caused this military drill to go very wrong in germany. three humvees were being parachuted on to a field but as you saw, they broke loose from the shute shutes and smashed to ground. the clip quickly went viral on social media. no one was hurt. they cost up to $220,000 each. >> nothing like that falling from the sky this morning, i can assure you, but temperatures have dropped just a bit since yesterday morning so right now we're looking -- waking up to temperatures mainly in the lower 40s across the area which is almost nearly a 20 degree
difference than where we were this time yesterday. actually, more than 20 degrees. we are 22 degrees colder in allentown, 20 colder in atlantic city. so you want to put on a light jacket and if you're heading out bundle up just a bit as we check your neighborhood numbers. because temperatures -- let's see if we can't go back. i can show you in philadelphia what we're looking for today. temperatures readings again, let's see if we can bring you closer in. look at this. 37, 38, white hall looking at upper 30s. so we're up in the lehigh valley looking at neighborhood forecast here. we're looking at temperatures saying oh, my goodness, is it really spring. hopewell 38 degrees, 39 in reading but we have a promise of plenty of sunshine today.
it should be warming us up nicely. at least to seasonal averages. we are looking for a high of 70 in philadelphia today. look at the sunshine, though, all the way across the board. we have high pressure in play so just about everywhere in the delaware valley is going to benefit from the bright sunshine today. feeling a lot like spring but as i mentioned, colder this morning so as you head out this morning, you're going to want to put on a light jacket, especially down here in south jersey, we're starting off with temperatures in the lower 40s but warming all the way up to the upper 60s. 69, close to 60 in glassboro, lynnwood, my favorite, where i'm from in rat lann tick county 62 degrees for your high temperature. how about delaware, wilmington warming up to 68 degrees and and nothing but sun. dewey beach, it will be a nice day to take a stroll along the beach. i'll be back with more in just a bit. karen, thank you. we are just a few months away

scheduled on the nbc 10 app as well as nbc10.com. the performers at the big july 4 concert will be revealed next month. 1500 people climbed 43 flights of stairs all for a very good cause the inaugural big climb philly took the comcast center by storm. nbc 10's own george spencer hosted the event. climbers raised more than $300,000 for leukemia and lymphoma society. another fund-raiser we want to tell you about, miles for myeloma raised thousands of dollars to fine a cure. more than 1200 runners and walkers braved the rain for the 5k. nbc 10's own matt delucia emceed the event and it looked like he had fun with the philly fanatic. i think this is a common theme

lancaster avenue around 4:00 yesterday morning. . is nearly 12 hours later she was finally able to free herself at south 57th street and larchwood avenue. police say she escaped from a four door black sedan that had a garbage bag over a rear window. neighbors say the woman looked to be in bad shape and one witness told us his mom got a closer look at her. >> she saw a girl with blood a bloody face, duct tape on her ankles. >> i heard screaming and she was like "get off me, get off me." >> the woman was treated at temple university hospital and released last night. police say the man they're looking for 23 years old and has dreadlocks and a long beard. now to decision 2016, there are two full days of campaigning left before the pennsylvania and delaware primaries. 2 candidates are crisscrossing
the states before voters go to the polls on tuesday. both democratic candidates if president visited our area yesterday. bill clinton stumped for his wife hillary in the philadelphia areas while bernie sanders worked to get voters to the polls in wilmington. >> we do not do well when the voter turnout is low. let us have the highest voter turnout in delaware history on tuesday. sanders would have to win every remaining contest by 20 points to catch hillary clinton's delegate lead, right now he trails in poll from all five states where there will be voting on tuesday. hillary clinton will be visiting two philadelphia churches today. yesterday her husband was busy in philadelphia. the former president made a total of four stops in our area. clinton started his day speaking to a crowd of about 600 people at the swarthmore result ledge school in delaware county where he called his wife the best
change maker he's ever known. >> i think she's got the best plan -- tear down the barriers, build the opportunities. i think she's the only person who's had the experience to go in and do the foreign policy and national security part of the job and the domestic side. >> the former president also surprised customers at the dining car diner in northeast philadelphia and he pokesed for pictures with some lucky supporters. donald trump will be in our area tomorrow with a campaign visit to west chester university. >> being presidential is easy. much easier than what i have to to do. >> reporter: in connecticut yesterday, trump poked fun that his advisors want him to act more presidential as he inches closer to securing the republican nomination. he also mocked hillary clinton and his republican rival ted cruz. now, cruz visited a high
school outside of pittsburgh yesterday. he challenged donald trump's electability calling the front-runner a phony. cruz is spending the next few days campaigning in the midwest. he calls the contest in indiana in may his last stronghold in the fight against trump. john kasich will visit his hometown in western pennsylvania for a rally there. kasich trails behind both donald trump and ted cruz in polling for tuesday's primaries. >> what we can do is come together and we have to begin to love one another. a group devoted to peace brought their message to the wilmington high school where a teenaged girl died following a school fight. plus, coming up after the break, tributes to prince continue to pour in, including this from new orleans. all as his family takes the next step to mourn the loss of the music legend. do you think when you are president you'll be paid as...

good sunday morning, i'm meteorologist karen thomas taking a look at neighborhood forecast right now. we can see we have plenty of sunshine on the map, temperatures mainly in the 40s. mid-40s in philadelphia 4, 2 at the jersey shore. south jersey 44 degrees. we'll take you out to the pennsylvania suburbs where it's much cooler. 3935 degrees. you can see just north and west of philadelphia cooler. even in collegeville, check this out, 35. north wales 36 degrees. 39 in malvern so if you're heading out, you want to put on a light sweater or jacket.

from the nbc 10 delaware bureau, a town hall will be held tomorrow in wilmington to talk about the death of a 16-year-old girl who died in a school fight. >> we have no idea as to why it cured. all we can do is come together and we have to begin to love one another. >> the wilmington peacekeepers offered prayers outside the howard high school of technology. sophomore amy joyner francis died thursday after she was involved in a fight in the girl's bathroom. her friends tell us she was always a peacemaker who tried to step in and stop fights. >> in should not have brought us together to realize that we need to wake up and make a change. >> hear, hear. >> my heart hurts.
>> the governor, attorney general and mayor are expected to attend the town hall meeting tomorrow night at stubbs elementary school. prince's beloved family and friends say their final farewell to the music legend. the family celebrated his life in a private ceremony after his remains cremated. the cause of his death hasn't been released. the 57-year-old was found unresponsive in an elevator in his estate in suburban minneapolis on thursday. the tributes to prince continue, including this one in our area. the delaware river port short lit up the ban franklin bridge in prince's signature color, purple. you can see it again tonight. and this sky-high tribute to the musician was over the new orleans jazz festival. a sky writer wrote "prince" above the crowd yesterday. several artists at jazz fest performed his music and his

but things will warm up which is great. karen thomas will be back with your complete forecast coming up. this morning, more than 7,000 people will gather at the philadelphia museum of art for the march for babies and run for babies to raise money for the march of dime which is benefits babies in our area. the event begins at 8:00. good luck to them. also, motorcyclist will ride to battleship "new jersey." the run begins at barb's holly davidson and travels through south jersey. the riders are raising money to restore the battleship as well as help out a local boy scout troupe. also today, the philadelphia science festival continues with events throughout the region. it's a nine-day celebration of science with hands-on activities, special exhibits, lectures, debates and more. today kids can amp it up by learning about electricity and
