sprinkles. northern chester county getting a few sprinkles at this hour. they're streaming into new jersey and across delaware as well. looking to the west, this is where the weather is coming from. not a lot of rainfall but there are scattered showers to be found. those are going to be moving through at times during the day. moving out the door right now, here's what's happening right now. a live view of philadelphia, 46 degrees and cloudy skies. we'll see a little bit of drizzle this morning. those clouds hanging in there. not much of a warmup today. 9:00 hour, 51 degrees. we'll be stuck in the 50s throughout the day. south jersey is in the 40s to start with. it will warm into the 50s this afternoon. but occasional light showers. it's certainly not an all-day rainfall. 54 degrees in interior new jersey. 50 degrees at the shore while it's up to 55 degrees for philadelphia and clouds will hang in there with occasional light showers, later this morning. again, later this afternoon. we'll go through the timing of those showers with the futurecast when i'm back in ten minutes. right now, jessica boyington has
a look at first alert traffic. jessie? >> we're watching construction out there. there's some on the burlington bristol bridge that was supposed to be active until about 5:00 this morning. it cleared early. a heads up for this weekend. it will be closed starting saturday. tomorrow morning around 6:00 a.m. until monday around 6:00 a.m. they may end that earlier just like they did today, so that will be our best bet. expect it to at least be around there until 6:00 this morning. upper pottsgrove and farmington avenue and north state street to watch out for an accident. if you're heading down the shore, you'll be just fine. this morning, the eagles have the future of their franchise. the birds tap carson wentz in the nfl draft last night. vai sikahema is live in the digital operations center. the eagles got the man they wanted. >> this is a guy they wanted the entire way.
carson wentz is 6'5", weighing 237 pounds, a 4.0 student. he's compared to brett favre as far as his playing style. he's expected in philadelphia a little bit later this afternoon to talk about his future in midnight green. >> the philadelphia eagles select carson wentz. >> commissioner roger goodell introduced the bird's first round pick last night. wentz won two nationalaldq%ql at north dakota state. the eagles targeted wentz after the rams selected cal quarterback jared goff to start the draft. >> the eagles erupted with joy when the birds officially picked wentz. nbc 10 was at the eagles draft party at the link. meanwhile in chicago, john clark of comcast sports net asks wentz if he shared the fan's hunger for a winner? >> i hate losing. you know, i know they do, too. i think i'll fit in well there. i'm a competitor.

area will be popular with this name. >> that's how philly fans are. we'll see you at 5:00. from our jersey shore bureau, the coast guard rescued three men whose boat sank off the coast of cape may. this say picture of the coast guard members pulling the men from a life raft. their ship called last stand collided with a tugboat and started to sink six miles offshore yesterday. they scrambled into their survival suits and into their raft all within about ten minutes. no one was hurt. 4:34. a philadelphia police officer now faces charges. he is accused of breaking into his girlfriend's home. internal affairs says alex mcadams took a personal item from her apartment and chased her outside last month. he's charged with burglary, trespassing and criminal mischief. he was suspended for 30 days
with intent to dismiss. police officers were looking for armed and dangerous suspects. that's not who they found when they raided this row home in southwest philadelphia. ahead, find out why officers had to apologize. also, upset with trump. ahead, hear why a tweet about downingtown has the mayor challenging the presidential candidate.
now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> it's a chilly start this morning in philadelphia. 46 degrees with a northeasterly wind at 8 miles an hour. it's those easterly and northeasterly winds that have been keeping us cloudy and cool for the last couple days. as you can see at the seven day, at the bottom of the screen, we're in for another one of those days today. lots of clouds, occasional mist, drizzle and maybe even a shower.
no sign of those showers right now. the temperatures will be coming up a little bit slowly. 9:00 this morning, 51 degrees. clouds hanging in there, 53 degrees at 11:00. at 1:00 this afternoon, not much warmer. in fact, those easterly winds staying with us through the afternoon. we'll keep the temperatures in the low to mid-50s this afternoon. cloudy skies through the day. we will get some occasional light showers but no heavy rain coming in to play today. pennsylvania suburbs, you're looking for sunshine after waiting for tomorrow. the clouds will be hanging in there through the afternoon with occasional light showers, 50 degrees at 1:00 and 51 degrees, not much warmer. in fact, no warmer at all at 3:00 this afternoon. the lehigh valley, we're in the 40s right now. that's most of the morning. 48 degrees at 9:00. by 1:00 in the afternoon, 50 degrees and a chance of some showers. especially later in the day in the lehigh valley. for new jersey, a few showers this morning, just some isolated showers, 50 degrees and not aç

4:42. good morning, broomall. the carnival runs through the weekend starting tonight. it benefits the broomall fire company. right now it is 43 degrees there. police in philadelphia are looking for four teenagers they say beat up and robbed a man on the temple university campus. here is surveillance video of the assault at 13th and norris street. it happened sunday night. you can see the victim getting punched and kicked. another surveillance camera captured the faces of the suspects pretty clearly as they walked east on norris street. we spoke to people on campus who say they are shocked because the area is so busy all the time. >> personally, i feel like the campus is safe. it always does make you double think everything.
>> police said the attackers stole the man's shirt. the victim had minor injuries. philadelphia police issue an apology after raiding the wrong home looking for armed suspects. s.w.a.t. officers burst into this home on elmwood avenue at 2:30 wednesday morning. they believed three people involved in a home invasion blocks away had run inside. the people who live there tell us they were held at gunpoint for hours while officers searched the house. police say they later realized it was not the right house and that no one inside posed a threat. >> i woke up with a big old gun in my face. then i sat here all night with a rifle sitting in that chair you're sitting in and my granddaughter next to me and i was thinking i'm going to die. >> the family says they are not accepting the apology from the police department or the $500 they say they were offered to them. the people wanted in the home invasion are still on the run. 4:45. now to decision 2016.
presidential candidate bernie sanders is issuing a challenge to his own party. >> you can't turn your backs on working people and low income people and children and the poor in 25 states in this country. >> sanders spoke at a rally in oregon yesterday. that state's primary is next month. sanders trails hillary clinton in the race for the nomination. on the republican side, it is unlikely that white house candidate ted cruz will get the endorsement of former house speaker john boehner. here's why. yesterday boehner ripped cruz at a forum in çcalifornia. boehner referred to the texas senator as, quote, lucifer in the flesh. the former speaker added that he has never worked with a more, quote, miserable s.o.b. in his life. cruz accused boehner of letting his inner trump come out. mean thtimemeantime, a twee donald trump is giving a town in chester county national
attention. trump took aid at downingtown when his motorcade passed this old paper mill on monday. how sad the once vibrant manufacturing area had become, said the tweet. downingtown's democratic mayor took on trump, he said there's nothing sad about downingtown, that the mill is a future high speed train station and that trump is both uninformed and a jerk. >> i know a lot of kids follow me on social media and things like that. and it's probably not always correct to call somebody a jerk. >> downingtown is still a good manufacturing area. just because that mill closed down doesn't mean downingtown has become a baron street area. new information now. employees at new jersey's motor vehicle commission are now required to undergo customer service training. that's the word from governor chris christie. christie says the change came after hearing stories from frustrated customers it also
comes after christie visit aid south plainfield location with a young driver to help him get a duplicate drivers permit. his mother claimed she was having trouble getting a duplicate from unhelpful 4:47. let's go to jessica boyington. what are we seeing? >> the accident scene headed eastbound on 422 approaching the egypt road off ramp. around that curve, a slippier spot there. we're still dealing with police activity. it pushed into the right-hand shoulder with the left lane getting by. here's the schuylkill expressway around montgomery drive. if you're headed towards center city, no problems getting there either. a 13-minute trip headed eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. speeds into the 50s. there's an accident in abington, montgomery county, moredon road and old ford road. the pa turnpike looks okay. pretty much all across the
board. we're not seeing major delays yet. slippery spots. westbound and eastbound on the pa turnpike, 23-minute trip from route 1 to valley forge with speeds into the 60s. i'll be back in the next ten minutes with updates on your morning drive. weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> it is going to be another cloudy day today and a chilly one, too. mainly dry. but there have been a few sprinkles, a little bit of fog. this is broomall, pennsylvania. you can see the driveway in front of the fire station. looks like they just shut the lights down. you can see enough light, it shows it a little bit damp this morning. the showers will be occasional. there's broomall, a quick shower passes by, no doubt that's why it's a little bit dam top start with. that's what we're seeing for most of the area. no big rainfall, just aç few sprinkles or a little bit of drizzle. you can see it's scattered across delaware bay and into cape may, seeing rainfall.
cumberland and eastern salem county getting a few sprinkles. to the west, lots of clouds but no big showers. those will pass to our south, manly missing d.c. as well. everybody is getting a bit of a chill, low 40s for the pennsylvania suburbs. look at south jersey at 46 and the jersey shore is a little bit warmer. in fact, the coolest temperatures are in the suburbs which are seeing low 40s for west cullen township, west chester is 43. malvern, 42 and no big warmup for bedminster, not at this hour, 43 degrees. no big warmup during the day or even the weekend as you may notice with the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. chilly today. lots of clouds. occasional showers. south philadelphia 55 degrees. definitely not an all-day rainfall in the pennsylvania suburbs. 53 degrees in malvern. bethlehem and the lehigh valley, 53 degrees this afternoon. a warmup of sorts for south jersey and the jersey shore. a little bit warmer than it is right now. it's just a little bit for the jersey shore with misty
conditions and clouds and some light rain showers in atlantic city. haddonfield will warm to 54 this afternoon. wilmington will be stuck in the clouds at 54 degrees. the rain, very light scattered showers at 1:00 this afternoon, a better chance we'll see showers as we go into the later afternoon and evening hours, especially. that's 7:00 this evening. see a few showers from philadelphia north into the lehigh valley. and then later tonight, you may need your umbrella. showers are still rolling through the area. then we'll get a break for saturday. clouds won't completely clear during the day on saturday. that's 9:00 in the morning. we will get some sunshine and that will lead to a bit of a warmup with no rain in the afternoon. but look at the showers that will be heading into the area by late saturday evening. that's 11:00 saturday night and that continues into sunday morning. that's 6:00 sunday morning. that's a steady rainfall for philadelphia, delaware, south jersey, the lehigh valley and during the morning hours on sunday.

good morning, everyone. jessica boyington with your first alert traffic right now. we're watching 295 out in hamilton township. this is around sloan avenue. no problems, though, yet in either direction. and we're also, if you're heading to the new jersey transit train station you'll have no problems getting there as well. not a lot of cars on the roads heading towards the trenton area. more updates in the 5:00 hour. six minutes before 5:00. 46 degrees outside. authorities in gloucester county are warning about a new form of marijuana hitting the area called wax. it is said to be much more powerful than other forms of the drug. police in washington township say dozens of teenagers have been arrested and they're training officers and canine units on what to look for.
wax can be more easily concealed. it sells for twice as much and delivers a potent high that can last 12 to 15 hours. police say wax can be more dangerous than any other form of marijuana. >> you can actually overdose on this product, because of the tac level and the high being so much more potent, you may pass out per se. >> police fear a çlong-lasting high will impair young drivers. aside from wax, other street name parents can look for are honey, oil or the number 710 which is the word oil upside down. edible marijuana candy and a pound of marge marne butter is what police say they found inside this man's mercer county restaurant. ed forchion, who also goes by weed man, was arrested along with a few other people.
the restaurant is located right across the street from trenton's city hall. from our jersey shore bureau now, officials are taking new steps to make sure people stay safe at the beach this summer. concerns about surf related injuries on cape may's beaches prompted the city to change the signs beachgoers see when they go on to the sand. the new large signs put heavy emphasis on preventing head, neck and back injuries. officials are passing out revised safety brochures highlighting specific ways on how to not get hurt, including not diving into waves. >> the city became more aware of the problem over the years. >> 51 injuries were reported on cape may's beaches last night. city officials insist cape may's beaches are not dangerous but thin to work with federal and state agencies to see if they
can make them safer. philadelphia school reform commission voted to turn three public schools into charter schools. huey elementary in west philadelphia, cook elementary in logan and wister elementary in germantown. the philadelphia federation of teachers released a statement saying it disagrees with that decision. happening today, philly tech week kicks off with an interactive arcade at dilworth park. organizers are transforming the park into an app arcade where people can play locally design games, used 3d printers and enjoy live entertainment. the humane society international saves hundreds of animals from a south korean dog meat farm. >> some of the animals have found a new home in north jersey. until recently this massive mix named merle had never set a paw on solid ground. she had spent her entire life in cages like these, destined to become a dinner entree. she's adjusting quickly at st. hubert's animal shelter in
madison, morris county. the center expects to receive about 120 of the rescue dogs which will be available for adoption. >> there's not a difference between the dogs raised for meat and the dogs we share our homes with. >> the humane society says many south korean dog meat farmers like the one who bred merle are trying to get out of the business. >> run areas cross our area are preparing for sunday's blue cross broad street run and so are a group of dogs. ten dogs called the action pack will represent the animal care and control team at philadelphia at a booth along the race route. ten runners will participate in the race in honor of those dogs. they'll raise awareness for the homeless pets of philadelphia shelter. when we replace the kennels, we want to make sure they feel safe, have less likelihood to get sick and ultimately they'll get adopted faster and be better pets for the philadelphia community. >> the action pack hopes to raise more than $500,000 this
