kind of cool. good morning, welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. i know it's misting. i had my wind shield wipers on low. let's get to meteorologist bill henley with the neighborhood forecast. >> lots of clouds, a little bit of mist and a few scattered showers. a little bit of activity on the radar into berks county, cumberland, heading towards cape may county. that's a shower moving through maurice river right now, a light shower. through the day we'll see clouds and cool temperatures. chilly this morning. the suburbs right now, 42 agrees. the lehigh valley, 46 and it's 45, a little bit of cloud and mist. in delaware and for philadelphia, 47 degrees. that's our starting point. we will see no sunshine today. 47 degrees at 7:00 and warmer by 10:00 this afternoon. and during the afternoon hours, 10:00 this morning. during the afternoon hours,
we'll see scattered light showers only in the 50s today. seven-day forecast may have noticed does have warmer weather ahead. i'll take a look at your weekend forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington watching roads on a friday morning. >> we are seeing damp places but for the most part we're doing okay, not a lot of volume and activity. white horse pike over in berlin, new jersey around cross keys road with no problems throughout the intersection. as you can see, just maybe a slippery spot when you make those turns. there@áhp' accident in abingto, moredon road and old for the road. this looks like he moved forward. we are taking out the right-hand shoulder no big problems headed eastbound by the scene into center city, at least for right now. we're still early to see the big delays. we'll keep you updated to make sure there's no big backups by the scene. police are looking for a
woman they say shot a man in frankford at about 12:30 in the morning. they found a man in his 40s lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his face, back and legs. medics rushed him to the hospital. is he expected to survive. witnesses say the woman who shot him took off in a gold or gray sedan with another man. so far, police have made no arrests. going toe to toe for a good cause. several philadelphia nonprofits are hosting a boxing event that will make an impact all across the city. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live for us in philadelphia's northern liberty section this morning. you spoke with philly legend johan sr. about the night at the fights. >> i certainly did. he's extremely excited for night at the fights as are a lot of people. when you hear the word boxing you automatically philly. what you sometimes forget or don't think of is the heart that goes into the fight and the heart that those fighters have for the young people and the community around them.
joe hand has gyms like these all across the city. the idea is simple, keep kids off the streets and give them something to take pride in and what better way than boxing. >> philadelphia is considered a fight town because the number of champions that we've had. and because of the number of gyms we've had and the way that they're trained in philadelphia. >> we sat down with boxing and broadcast legend joe hand sr. he tells us one day he got a call from bobby keys, chairman of the urban league of philadelphia. he's a regular at the gym and had an idea. why not put on a fight to raise money for joe hand's boxing and the urban league and serve even more kids in the process. that's how night at the fights came to be. >> this is a great opportunity for families to get together. >> and an even greater opportunity for young and up and coming fighters.

client. >> the eagles nation appear to be loving wentz already. a look at the twitter account of whitpain township shows a sign for wentz run park. you might be wondering -- the park had that name long before last night's draft. >> not named after carson. 5:36. new information, employees ott new jersey's motor vehicle commission are required to undergo customer service training. that's the word from governor chris christie. christie says the change came after hearing stories from frustrated customers. it also comes after christie visited a south plainfield location with a young driver to help him get a duplicate drivers permit. his mother claimed she was having getting the permit from what she called unhelpful commission workers. the fda approved the first commercial test to diagnose the zika virus in the u.s. only government labs have had approved tests up until this point. doctors had to go through their state or local health department if they wanted to test a patient. with the fda's approval, doctors
can order the test through quest diagnostics. it will cost about $500 and you can expect results in three to five days. joe biden will speak at a conference and is expected to talk about the connection between medical research and moral issues. the vice president is also scheduled to meet with pope francis. authorities in gloucester county are warning about a new form of marijuana hitting the area. it's called wax, said to be much more powerful than the other forms of the drugs. dozens of teenagers have been arrested so far. they're training officers and canine units on what to look for. wax can be more easily concealed compared to traditional marijuana. it sells for twice as much and delivers a potent high that can last 12 to 15 hours. police say wax can be more dangerous than other forms of
marijuana. >> you can actually overdose on this product because of the tac level and the high beingç so mh more potent, you may have a kid pass out per se. >> police fear a long-lasting high will impair young drivers. other names include honey, oil, butter or the number 710 which is the word oil upside down. police in philadelphia are looking for four teenagers who they say beat up and robbed a man on the temple university campus. you're looking at surveillance video of the assault on sunday night at 13th and norris streets. another surveillance camera captured the faces very clearly of the suspects as they walked east on norris street. we spoke to people on campus that said they were shocked because the area is so busy all the time. >> personally, i feel look the campus is still safe.
it does make you double think everything. >> police said the attackers stole the man's shirt. the victim had minor injuries. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 5:39 and a dreary day ahead. lots of clouds, the satellite and radar. a little bit of rainfall. you can see a bit in jersey, heading to cape may county. on and off rainfall, all day long we'll see cloudy skies lining up in the west, scattered showers but not a lot of rain for today. dreary with temperatures holding in the 50s this afternoon. right now, 47 degrees in philadelphia. staying cloudy through the day with occasional rain drops, especially later this morning and this afternoon. dry right now in the pennsylvania suburbs. we have seen light showers this morning, 43 degrees. 50 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon with a chance of scattered showers and the lehigh valley, 46 degrees today. to start with, 50 at 1:00 this
afternoon. not much warmer later this afternoon. occasional showers in the lehigh valley. new jersey we've seen cool spots, 44 degrees to start with, a chilly kind of raw day with those winds coming out of the east into the ten mile-an-hour range this afternoon. that will keep the shore even cooler, 52 degrees at 1:00 after starting off with temperatures in the 40s and low 50s at this hour. in delaware, 45 degrees to start with, near 50 degrees by lunch time and into the very low 50s this afternoon with occasional showers during the day. the futurecast is showing clouds through the day at 5:30 this morning, you can see the few scattered light showers in the area. here comes steadier rainfall at 9:30 and that chance of showers will continue into the noontime hour. in fact, looking more impressive for philadelphia, wilmington and into south jersey. on and off rainfall at times this afternoon. those occasional showers will come to an end for at leaf the beginning of the weekend. you may have noticed that with
the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen. the ten-day outlook with a look at two weekends when i come back in ten minutes. >> two weekends. >> thank you, bill. 19 minutes before 6:00 a.m. let's take a look at the schuylkill. looks like there's a problem out there. >> first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has details. where is that, jessica? >> around montgomery drive on the schuylkill expressway, vai and tracy, no realç problems tt are affecting the lanes right here. traffic is still moving by headed eastbound. they're going towards center city nicely. we have a disabled vehicle here. it is over into the right-hand shoulder and we have penndot crew there on the way. just so we can probably get this guy towed out of the way. maybe this will be a quick cleanup. no big delays behind or past the scene right now. here's the blue route. no problems here either. we are still in the green an a 15-minute trip headed southbound from the schuylkill to 95. speeds are still into the 60s. that construction on the burlington bristol was supposed

happening today, wilmington police are expected to foil charges in the deadly beating at a local high school. amy joyner-francis died last thursday after a fight in the girl's bathroom at howard high school. at a meeting on monday, wilmington's police chief said investigators have identified three persons of interest and expected charges to be filed by the end of the week. it's 5:45. 46 degrees outside. in baltimore, a man dressed up in an animal costume threatened to blow up a tv station. he's in stable condition after police shot him during the incident. the man was wearing a hedgehog onsie and had what appeared to be a bomb strapped to him as he walked into the fox 45 building. he want the station to air what
he said was information about a government conspiracy. >> he kept on say one know, i don't want to hurt anyone, i don't want to hurt you but i really want my message to be heard. >> officers shot him three times when they say he refused to listen to their orders. after a four-hour incident came to the end, police learned the supposed bomb was candy bars wrapped in aluminum foil and wired together. presidential candidate bernie sanders is still battling hillary clinton for the nomination. >> sanders is issuing a challenge to his own party. take a listen. >> you can't turn your back on working people and low income people and children and the poor in 25 states in this country. >> sanders spoke at a rally in oregon yesterday. that state's primary is next month. sanders trails hillary clinton in the race for the nomination. on the republican side, it's unlikely that white house

joshg. >> downingtown is still a good manufacturing area. just because that mill has closed down doesn't mean downingtown has become a baron industrial area. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> another dreary day. clouds are in place. wildwood has seen light fog, mist, drizzle and there are a few isolated showers in the area. the temperatures across the board are chilly this morning. in the 40s, low 40s for the pennsylvania suburbs. 48 degrees in upper township. a look at may's landing at 46 degrees this morning. a chilly day, cloudy day. if you look closely you'll see rainfall which shows you there's not a lot of rainfall to be had. we will see occasional showers, light showers moving through cape may county right now. those light showers will push offshore but keep that umbrella nearby. because more wet weather is on the way. this is the futurecast which shows later this morning into the early afternoon hours, some
scattered light showers for philadelphia and into south jersey. clouds through the day at 5:30 this afternoon, for the evening commute. rain more likely in the allentown area. a few showers in philadelphia, too. a chance of showers that will be around into this evening. 9:30 this evening. then we get a break. overnight tonight, the clouds will finally turn the valve off and stop producing rain. may even see breaks of sunshine. not a lot of sunshine. clouds will linger into the afternoon. we'll see a warmer day on saturday with some breaks of sunshine. but the showers to the west will be moving right back into the area. that's late saturday night, just before midnight. you can see the rain moving into the pennsylvania suburbs and heading towards delaware at that hour. and then here it comes for sunday morning, 6:00 in the morning. that steady rain through the philadelphia area and during the morning hours, we could see moderate showers, even brief downpours during the blue cross
broad street run. that's noontime on sunday. the rain will continue into sunday afternoon. so not your typical sunday weather, certainly. 55 degrees today with occasional showers. dry tomorrow, mostly cloudy. there will be some breaks of sunshine for your saturday. it's sunday for the blue cross broad street run that sees the rain coming in in the morning and staying into afternoon. that will make for a chilly race day. 49 degrees at 8:00 in the morning. a couple hours later. not much of a warmup, 51. the rain will still be falling. 54 degrees with steady showers at the lunch time hour. the showers on tuesday will finally break. we'll warm up, 66 degrees. it's part of a warming trend that will have us in the 70s for friday and next weekend. much warmer and dry for the second weekend. this weekend, though, i'd keep that umbrella handy. tracy, vai? >> i'll do. thanks, bill. ten minutes before 6:00 right

in problems or delays. we'll check in with more of the majors when i come back at 6:00. five minutes before 6:00. the humane society international saved hundreds of animals from a south korean dog meat farm. >> some of the animals have found a new home in north jersey. they're adjusting quickly to their new environment in madison, morris county. more animals will arrive at the facility in the next two weeks. veterinarians will treat the dogs for medical issues and place them up for adoption around the country. you'll have a chance to adopt a new best friend. ten dogs called the action pack will represent the animal care and control team of philadelphia at a booth along the race route. ten runners will participate in honor of the dog to raise awareness for homeless pets in philadelphia and raise money for new kennels at the shelter. >> when we replace the kennels we want to make sure they feel
safe, have less likelihood to get sick and ultimately they'll get adopted faster and be better pets for the philadelphia community. >> the action pack hopes to raise more than $500,000 this weekend. those dogs, again, will be available for adoption after the race. nbc 10 tries to clear the shelters throughout the year. every saturday morning we bring you a pet on our newscast that's up for adoption. the future of a summer basketball league in reading is uncertain after vandals caused thousands of dollars in damage to its headquarters. >> this is sad. vandals struck twice, breaking windows, stealing uniforms and trophies men the for young kids in the blacktop basketball league. police have made one arrest and organizers are hoping more people will come forward. >> my immediate reaction was that, i almost had tears in myize. we're looking for vandals who identify accountability. you do something like this, you pay the piper. >> donations are now trickling in to help the league get through the summer.
