here's the schuylkill expressway through the conshohocken curve. no problems there either. eastbound into center city, still 13-minute trip from the blue route to the vine street expressway. with speeds into the 60s and no problems, lighter of a drive into delaware over the delaware the left lane is still closed headed into delaware. a child was killed in this crash in philadelphia's wissahickon section. eight other people including a 2-month-old baby are injured. nbc 10's katy zachry is live outside st. christopher's hospital. police call that stretch of road where the crash happened dangerous. tell us more about what you know. >> that's exactly how accident investigators describe this specific section of henry avenue. we talked to neighbors yesterday and they agree. now, here's some more video of that deadly scene after the two cars collided along henry avenue in the wissahickon section of

philadelphia. accident investigators say the car carrying the four children veered into oncoming traffic yesterday afternoon and was hit head on. two off-duty police officers stopped to help, focusing their attention on the children. a 7-year-old boy died at st. christopher's hospital yesterday. a 2-month-old girl also taken to st. christopher's is listed in critical condition. people who lived around the area have asked the state to better enforce the speed limit. police have their own thoughts. >> this henry ave turn, it's raining, speeding, stuff like this can happen. >> you've seen henry avenue. it's a raceway sometimes. >> now, two other children injured from that scene were taken to children's hospital of philadelphia and good news, they have been upgraded to stable condition as have three other adults who were injured and they were taken to various trauma units in the area.

coming up in the next hour, we'll tell you what police tell us. they are right now ruling out as a cause for the crash. reporting live in hunting park, cardinals consider, nbc 10 news. 4:33 and 48 degrees outside. later today, former penn state assistant football coach jerry sandusky will be back in a courtroom. he wants a new trial. he was convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse in 2012. his new attorneys say he didn't get a fair trial and didn't have competent counsel. also happening today, the pennsylvania state police will honor a fallen state trooper with a plaque. trooper david kedra died two years ago during a firearms training class in conshohocken. during the class, the instructor's gun went off and a bullet hit kedra. that instructor pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment charges last year.

well, many people who participated in the blue cross broad street run you saw live here on nbc 10 yesterday morning say motivation was key. for instance, we found a man and woman showing their patriotism by carrying american flags as they ran the ten-mile route. others found inspiration from family. sara madden ran for her awn the who's battling cancer. >> i'm so proud of myself. finished the race with an injured shin. porsche's friend ran after giving birth just three months ago. those runners and others got a lot of encouragement along the way. >> good job! >> good job! >> that was nbc 10's katy zachry getting a run-by hug from nbc 10's keith jones. keith was part of our five member nbc 10 team that included jessica boyington that raced yesterday. congratulations to all of the

runners. other excitement at the starting line. representatives with einstein health care network presented a check for $10,000 to officials with the philadelphia department of parks and rec. they put on the race every year. blue cross broad street runners and family members will get a chance to watch. comcast sportsnet will rebroadcast nbc 10's entire coverage on saturday afternoon may 7th from 12:30 to 3:00 and again starting at 3:30. 4:35. how early is too early? monday morning means back to school for students across the area. in new jersey, lawmakers want to know if the school day start time should change. also, this -- church inferno. fire destroys an historic house of worship in new york. this morning, parishioners are looking towards the future.

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> clouds are here, a little bit of fog and a few showers. great day to grab the umbrella once again. we saw that steady rain yesterday. it's not going to be quite as rainy as today. but certainly cloudy. at least to start with. your seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen gives you a preview in we're in for a pretty good warmup today. 49 degrees at 6:00, middle 50s in spite of cloudy skies for the morning. those clouds bring a chance of showers. everybody is reporting readings

in the 40s right now. the clouds are overhead. i don't expect to see the numbers come down much more. vineland 48 degrees. cinnaminson 46. it is 47 degrees in lumberton. a chilly start and a little bit foggy, too. the thick fog is in coatesville. light fog is starting to ease now for quakertown. doylestown, under two miles and just over two miles in blue bell. fine visibility for mt. holly. philadelphia international, no problems with flights at this time. light fog has actually improved in the last few minutes in millville. might see fog but you also will see scattered showers. the showers are moving through delaware and into south jersey. this moderate shower just passing north of delaware city, you can see wilmington is cloudy and the rain is moving your way. you'll see a few sprinkles in the next few minutes. showers moving through new jersey into çgloucester, camde

county, burlington county at this time. stand by forum brael weather again today. we'll get a big break in the rain. there are even breaks in the cloud cover if you look to the west. check out the showers and thunderstorms. western and central pennsylvania and in west virginia and this is our possibility for thunderstorms later this afternoon and into this evening. so here's the forecast. neighborhood by neighborhood, university city, cloudy skies, 71 degrees. a chance of some showers and 62 in lansdale. bethlehem up to 60 degrees this afternoon with some scattered showers. south jersey, mainly light showers during the daytime with mostly cloudy skies. between those showers and a chance of some late-day thunderstorms, extreme south jersey and extreme southern parts of the shore. wildwood, more likely to see a thunderstorm later this afternoon than in atlantic city. and delaware, 71 degrees with dewey beach up to 73 degrees. a chance of some late-day

showers and thunderstorms in delaware. but then tomorrow, it's not beginning to be this warm. you'll still need your umbrella. a look at the ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. >> see you then, bill. 4:41. let's check your ride to work, especially if it includes 95. we start there with first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> 95 looks okay for right now, especially heading into center city. with our drive times, southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway, still a 12-minute trip. this is 95 around girard avenue and no problems in either direction. the southbound lanes reflect that drive time. still in the green with speeds into the 60s as well. if you're out the door this morning, out in montgomery county, we do see an accident on marlborough and gerryville pike and hipple twister road. no problems in either direction if you're headed northbound right here, that's where you'll get to the tacony palmyra bridge. no scheduled openings at least for right now. we're good to go there.

journal"/marist poll of likely republican voters in indiana found 49% choose donald trump. ted cruz is 15 points behind at 34%. governor john kasich of ohio got 13%. >> the next president of the united states, ted cruz! >> cruz is not corn seeding defeat in the hoosier state. the republican hopeful rallied for votes in lafayette sunday, despite trailing in the polls, cruz continues to insist that he can win indiana tomorrow. over on the democratic side, the latest nbc news/marist poll shows hillary clinton leading senator bernie sanders by just four points in the state of indiana. that's within the margin of error and a virtual tie. clinton was in detroit, michigan, where she delivered a keynote address at the naacp dinner. sanders is making a final push for indiana. the vermont senator rallied the

the view from wildwood, just a little bit murky. see the light fog in the light. the temperatures have dropped into the 40s once again. 44 degrees in the pennsylvania suburbs. a little bit of rain coming down in delaware, 49 degrees.ç at the shore, it is in the upper 40s. 47 in may's landing. ocean city at 50 degrees, woodbine at 48. a chilly start this morning. we'll see more of a southerly flow today. that will boost temperatures this afternoon. it will come with occasional showers. we're seeing light to moderate showers cross into new jersey, just entering western salem county. this is part of a system that will be with us on and off during the day today. thunderstorms are possible for parts of the area late this afternoon. most likely in delaware into south jersey. scattered light rain, showers that are clearing southern delaware and sussex county. a chance of more showers during the day today.

be sure to bring your umbrella with you. occasional showers. this is 4:30 this morning. most of of the day, cloudy skies. at 10:00, just a little bit of rain on the ground. the futurecast showing 0.02 in philadelphia. showers return this afternoon. with those showers, heavier downpours, brief downpours, though, in wilmington, buena, egg harbor township. doesn't look too bad. just a little dreary for today. nod's not the only day with a chance of showers. near 70 degrees this afternoon, tomorrow, cooler, 63. by wednesday, we could see a break in the rain but that's just a possibility. there's still a possibility of showers coming in late wednesday and thursday. and friday and into saturday. and partly sunny skies on sunday. don't give your umbrella the day after just yet. i may add a shower in there just yet based on some of the latest

good morning, everyone. it's jessica boyington with a quick check on your first alert traffic. for the most part, the roads are pretty quiet out there today, at least so far. it's a little early to see any big problems. we're in flowertown, pa, route 309 at church road. we have a problem in new jersey. i'll tell you what that is when i come back in the 5:00 hour. five minutes before 5:00 right now. today, atlantic city's mayor plans to update us on the financial crisis plaguing his town. a $2 million bond payment is due today. on friday, the mayor told nbc 10 the city will likely be able to

come up with the money. no city or town in new jersey has defaulted on its debt since the great depression of the 30s. closing arguments are expected today in the trial of a man accused of beating and strangling a local college student. he's charged in the death of 18-year-old chadds ford native karlie hall. it happened at millersville university last year. he claims he pushed hall during a drunkle l lle argument and di try to kill her. starting today, the new jersey department of education will hold hearings to answer the questions does the school day start too early? parents, teachers and students will get to weigh in on the possibility of moving the start time to 8:30 or later. the first meeting is today from 4:00 to 7:00 at camden county college blookwood campus. one new jersey hospital is trying to fight the epidemicç

philadelphia. five hours later, police say they believe they know what caused the accident. police are still searching for answers in this deadly crash. one child is dead, eight others in the hospital this morning. conditions, 40,000 runners took off down broad street. we'll take a look at some of the sights and sounds of the blue cross broad street run. good morning and welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm tracy davidson. just before 5:00 a.m. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley in the first alert weather center. take the umbrella is the bottom line. >> that's a good idea. we're seeing showers in the area. this is what's happening, live pictures from across the area. some rain falling in philadelphia. delaware has some rain as well and fog to be found. look at the lehigh valley in easten. those low clouds and fog will be hanging in there. the clouds stay with us even with temperatures warming up. 57 degrees. occasional showers are possible.

we're seeing the few showers in philadelphia right now. those will be on and off, not an all-day rainfall. 55 degrees by 9:00 this afternoon. and a pretty good warmup. southerly winds help to boost temperatures into the low 70s while other areas stay cooler, new jersey into the low 60s and lehigh valley up to 60 degrees this afternoon. we'll go through the futurecast northbound. for cleanup, that ramp is being blocked by police activity there. here's 295 in west deptford around route 130. no problems in either direction. a 23-minute drive time, no increase there headed southbound from the 42 freeway headed to the delaware memorial bridge with speeds well into the 60s. if you're headed through
