news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. look, we can't do anything about the rain. you have to handle it the way we do it. it's a free car wash. >> silver lining. >> the wax and the vacuuming, you'll have to figure that out. >> after this week my car has never been so clean. you're on your own with the waxing. we'll get stronger winds later today. if you leave the door open, maybe that will help out a little bit. low clouds over philadelphia. we've seen scattered rain showers. those will be tapering off. it's dry right now at philadelphia international, 51 degrees. a minimal warmup. just like yesterday, the clouds will remain. the rainfall now in the pennsylvania suburbs and into the lehigh valley. we have seen some scattered showers in delaware and south jersey. but most of the rain this morning has been farther to the north and that is going to be pushing out this morning. so most of the day, like yesterday, will be looking at cloudy skies and dreary conditions. the temperatures are running cooler, 5, 6, 7 degrees cooler.

the lehigh valley, it's 51 degrees. delaware, some breaks in the clouds, 50 degrees but that won't last. you'll see limited sunshine disappear as the day goes on. cloudy skies across delaware and south jersey. the temperatures, well, in south jersey, 49 degrees right now. really not much cooler anywhere but there are a couple spots in the 50s. 50 degrees in turnersville and mt. laurel also at 50 degrees. seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. we'll go through the futurecast hour by hour to show you when you'll likely see rain return during the day today. back in ten minutes. jessica boyington is watching some of those newly cleaned cars. jessie? >> that's right, bill. we are watching some of them being stuck around the philadelphia area because of some traffic lights that are malfunctioning around 26th street and penrose avenue. still approaching the platt bridge if you're heading out the door, you may see backups there. police officers there directing traffic around the scene at one point. right now it's clear.

for the future we'll look at that, police active might be there soon. here's the blue route around the baltimore pike. no problems in either direction. everything moving along nicely. a great drive time from route 1 to 95. four minutes there, average speeds in the 60s. there's also a disabled vehicle out in plymouth on east germantown pike. more updates in the next ten. tracy? ç from the beginning, i've said that i would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory. tonight, i'm sorry to say -- >> no! >> it appears that path has been foreclosed. >> ted cruz concedes after losing in the indiana primary and that move effectively makes donald trump the likely republican nominee this morning. >> on the democratic side, it was bernie sanders who won indiana. nbc 10's pamela osborne has the decision 2016 breakdown for us.

>> good morning, republican donald trump took indiana with 53% of the vote. after trump's divisive win, the rnc chairman tweeted that trump will be the presumptive gop nominee. he said we need to unite to focus on defeating hillary clinton. >> we gave it everything we've got. but the voters chose another path. we are suspending our campaign. >> you may remember governor john kasich and cruz agreed to join forces to defeat trump just last week. his camp says they're not giving up. a spokesperson with his campaign tweeted directly to the rnc chairman saying they appreciate his hard work for the gop but until someone has 1,237 bound delegates, there is no presumptive nominee. the end of that next week in

california, here we come. trump praised cruz for taking that step. >> ted cruz, i don't know if he likes me or doesn't like me but he is one hell of i competitor. he is a tough, smart guy. now to the democrats. bernie sanders thanked people of indiana for giving him what he called a great upset victory. he beat hillary clinton by 5 percentage points. hillary clinton used the indiana results to appeal to donors. she tweeted donald trump is the presumptive gop nominee. chip in now if we agree that we can't let him become president. trump and clinton are zeroing in on their party's nominations. both candidates have commanding delegate leads. sanders win added to his delegate total but the vermont senator is close to 800 behind clinton. trump's victory in indiana catapulted his delegate count north of 1,000 and has him less than 200 delegates away from the nomination.

see the rain that's moving through the pennsylvania suburbs. we've seen some scattered showers, misty this morning. no serious rainfall for delaware and south jersey. those showers to the north, they are on the move. the futurecast shows at 9:30 this morning, mainly dry in philadelphia. at the shore you'll see wet weather at that hour. as we go into the lunch time, noontime, you can see the showers return for delaware into philadelphia and south jersey. there's more rain to the west that we'll be filling in as we go into the later afternoon hours. there's a chance you'll see some rainfall coming down during the evening commute. it will be thinning out as we go into the evening hours. the winds will be increasing. there's a chance we'll see scattered showers during the evening. during the day, cloudy skies with occasional showers. any fog around this morning in the pennsylvania suburbs are lighter than yesterday. it will be disappearing. the clouds hang in there for delaware and south jersey. 50s this afternoon. 56 degrees in wildwood and in

delaware, occasional showers during the daytime and then starting to dry out some. it's cloudy this evening. 56 degrees in dover. up to 56 also for wilmington. take a look at the ten-day outlook with much warmer and drier conditions when i'm back in ten minutes. all right, 6:09. we're now in the 6:00 hour. that means volume in most places. >> usually starts to pick up about now. let's check with nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington to see what you ned to know before you step out the door. >> we're checking in with 95 first. we're still doing okay for the most part. this is right around girard avenue. we're at a 16-minute drive time headed southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway. and speeds still into the 50s. everything moving along nicely despite the wet roads. we're coming upon that rush hour time. now over in philadelphia, still traffic lights malfunctioning around 26th street and penrose avenue. approaching the platt bridge if you are heading in that

direction, you may come across that as well. in monroe township, the downed pole blocking a major part of 322 which isç closed right now. it's been closed in both directions, right around high street. take cross keys road, running parallel to the scene if you have to get to a different part of 322 or delsea drive will take you north by the scene. otherwise, follow local detours. there's a disabled vehicle in plymouth on east germantown pike and arch road. for the most part, mass transit doing okay with no reported delays. more updates when i come back. vai? a school police officer has a broken jaw after being punched. >> it's a fight that was caught on camera. two police say punched the officer and what was happening just before this. plus, the eagles new star quarterback has a new title. cover model. we'll show you which magazine is featuring carson wentz on its cover.

right now, philadelphia police are investigating two police-involved shootings. >> one person is dead and another recovering in the hospital. take a look at this map. the first shooting happened around 11:00 last night on grays avenue in southwest philadelphia. two hours later, another police-involved shooting about five miles away on overbrook avenue. that's where one man was killed. that's where nbc 10's katy zachry is. katie, police gave you new information about an hour ago. they say the second shooting and the deadly one started as a traffic stop? >> that's right. this deadly sequence of events transpired from an attempted traffic stop. i say attempted traffic stop because police tell us the driver of this maroon mini van, which you can see has a door open and and door bag deployed.

they say the driver of this mini van did not stop when they told him to pull over and instead, tried to run officers over with this vehicle. around 1:00 a.m., they tried to get the driver of mini van to stop and pull over. he refused and used his car to try and hit police. his car crashed a little ways from the intersection at lancaster and overbrook avenue. they did drive the injured man to presbyterian hospital but he had already died. earlier, different police officers in philadelphia were shot at by a man with a gun in grays ferry. in southwest part of philadelphia. that shooting happened behind a row of homes. police tell us officers who were patrolling the area heard gunshots. if he followed the sound to the back of a home and here's what happened next. >> we approached a male, telling the male to drop the weapon. that male aims, fires one shot

at police, misses and then one of the officers fires two times back and shoots the male in the leg. >> reporter: just to be clear, these shootings are not believed to be related, just a number of violent ordeals for police overnight here in philadelphia. now, the individual who was shot in the leg from that first shooting, from that interview you just heard from police, he is listed in stable condition at the hospital. a single but fret officers, i'm told, hit both of his legs. police also have a witness, a man inside that house. they have him at southwest detectives and are questioning him right now. reporting live in overbrook, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. 6:16. getting information about problems near the platt bridge. >> jessica boyington, do you have a camera trained there? >> we do have problems.ç if you're approaching the platt bridge or coming off of the platt bridge, we have a set of traffic lights that are malfunctioning. it's a little bit of chaos here at this intersection. a lot of cars keep getting stuck

into the center of the intersection, 26th street and penrose avenue. this is approaching the platt bridge right here in here. a lot of vehicles keep getting stuck into the center right here. this is where it becomes a potentially dangerous situation. there's no police activity on the scene there. you can see this set of traffic lights are all blinking as well. police activity not on the scene yet to direct traffic around. if you're heading out the door, just use extra caution. i don't want this to become a dangerous situation for anyone. there's also construction on kelly drive in both directions, scheduled until about 6:30.in both directions east and westbound between brewery hill drive and sedgely drive. another couple minutes for that. watching a disabled in plymouth. this is kings highway, no problems in either direction. not own a lot of cars in the

area. just a little bit damp. just be careful heading through the intersections or getting on or off ramps to any of the major roads. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> let's check with nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. it's a forecast that you won't get anywhere else. >> for days like this the neighborhood weather is a real advantage to our meteorologist. bill, what can you tell us? >> we're watching lots of clouds. everybody sees that. some areas getting rainfall. one area getting a break from the rain but not the clouds, cape may. beach avenue has seen cloudy skies. temperatures in the 50s. south jersey 49 degrees. at the shore 49 degrees. the temperatures will be climbing some but not a lot. see those northeasterly winds? we've had them for days. we're stuck in the pattern that doesn't change today. afternoon temperatures in the 50s. there go the showers offshore. look to the southwest. southern delaware, that shower activity will be moving towards cape may. on and off rainfall in delaware

and south jersey. where we've seen steadier rain is in the pennsylvania suburbs and into the lehigh valley. but now that is starting to disappear. it's moving past doylestown into bucks county. steadier rainfall also in montgomery county. it won't be an all-day rainfall. we'll get breaks in the rain and any thin spots you see in the clouds this morning, there have been a few in delaware. they won't last. the clouds will fill right back in. a chance we'll see more showers. the showers extend into west virginia. our futurecast showing there are potential for some heavy downpours this afternoon, possibly even a thunderstorm. but during the day, it's going to be very light rainfall. by 11:00 this morning, just 0.02 of rain on the ground in philadelphia. barely any on the ground in south jersey. egg harbor township, 0.02 inch there. while it's just at 0.1 inch in pottstown. watch as we go through the afternoon. this is when you could see heavier downpours and

potentially even thunderstorms. that could produce higher amounts for philadelphia and swedesboro. burlington, up to 0.75 inch of rain today. today. tomorrow, a bit of fog in the morning, then misty and rainy conditions. light rainfall for thursday. onfully, we'll get steadier rain and gustier winds and potential for flooding at the shore as well. we finally dry out, for the weekend, just in time, saturday 70 degrees with partly to mostly sunny skies. we'll get morning showers on mother's day and then they clear out. sunshine in the afternoon, look at the sunny skies and the billing warmup next week. by wednesday afternoon, 84 degrees. summer-like conditions for thursday an a chance of storms and a cooldown on friday. tracy, vai? >> summer-like conditions, i love to hear that, bill. happening today, thousands of people from all over the world are in philadelphia for

the craft brewers conference. >> that translates into millions of dollars and lots of pints. matt delucia has been given the difficult assignment. you've been there for two hours, no slurred speech whatsoever. you're a pro. >> they locked the door. they won't let me in. it opens later on this morning. unfortunately it won't work out for me for this hour. 12,500 people are in town for the craft brewers conference at the pen convention center. last time it was here in philadelphia, 2005, only 1,500 people showed up. you can see how this business, the craft beer culture has grown a lot. the expo itself opens today. it's not open for the public. it's for those in the beer brewing industry. we wanted to know how much business craft beer brings to our area. the brewers association tells me some 4,400 jobs in pennsylvania

are directly from those related to breweries. one of those big-time beermakers is yards company here in philadelphia. >> we're looking to grow and we're going to grow right here in philadelphia. we want to be that hometown beer. >> ten years ago could you see yourself in this position? >> absolutely not. we were a surviving little business and hoping people would be psyched about beer. now they are psyched about beer. we're taking advantage of it and growing like the industry is growing. >> it changes the business of beer. it gives a small, local option where before we had a number of large national companies. now 75% of 21 plus adults live within ten miles of a brewery. these businesses are well distributed all across the country. >> pretty interesting stats there. 600 breweries opened up last

nbc 10 news starts now. right now on "nbc 10 news today," an attempted traffic stop leads to a deadly police-involved shooting. >> officials release a video of two men they stay attacked a student as well as two school police officers outside of northeast philadelphia high school. we gave it everything we've got. but the voters chose another path. >> and then there were two. but it's looking like donald trump is the likely gop candidate this morning after ted cruz dropped out. good morning and welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm tracy davidson. just after 6:30. 52 degrees outside. wet in some places. let's check with meteorologist bill henley with his first alert neighborhood forecast. it's wet in some areas, cloudy in others, right, bill? >> we're seeing this that this morning. the lehigh valley seeing the rain this morning. that's the view from easton. a dreary view.

showers to start with. but we'll get breaks in the clouds but there's a chance of more showers as we head into the noontime hour. we have seen a few breaks in the clouds in delaware. frawley stadium, the infield is covered. those clouds thinned a little bit but they're filling back in. more midday showers. won't be an all-day rainfall. these temperatures will climb some. most of the area faing short of 60 degrees. with a chance of showers, not an all-day rainfall. a chance you'll need your umbrella as the day goes on. we go through the futurecast hour by hour. check out the seven day any time you'd like. when i'm on the air, it's at the bottom of the screen. jessica boyington watching wet roads with your first alert traffic. >> a few problems out there. we want everybody to be careful about this dangerous intersection or potentially dangerous situation here around the platt bridge. this is 26th street and penrose avenue. these traffic lights are all on flash. it's creating confusion over in

this intersection here. cars aren't being directed around. they're flashing right over here. this set of traffic lights in this area is flashing as well. all of the cars are fending for themselves and coming towards the center slowly. this is around the platt bridge area. if you're heading in that direction, there's no police activity on the scene directing traffic. use caution and be a little slow. here's the vehicle on upper dublin, watch out for that. the 42 freeway, not seeing major delays. this is ç42 over in creek road around runnemede. no problems getting to philadelphia so far. tracy? >> jessica, thanks. 6:33. new this morning, rescue crews pulled a man out of a partially collapsed home in philadelphia's cobbs creek neighborhood. this is 60th and chancellor. the man was rescued around 4:30 this morning.

we're told he's doing just fine. philadelphia police are investigating two police-involved shooting. >> one is recovering in the hospital, one person is dead. one was in grays ferry, the other in the overbrook section of philadelphia. one started as an attempted traffic stop. investigators say the driver tried to run down the officers. they fired several shots at him and he crashed his car. now, the other shooting happened not quite two hours earlier at 53rd and grays avenue in southwest philadelphia. the investigators tell us an armed man fired at officers from a back porch and missed. one of the officers fired back twice, i hadding the man in the legs. he's in the hospital this morning. a philadelphia school police officer is in the hospital with a broken jaw after being attacked on the job. two school officers got into a fight at northeast high school on monday with three men. police tell us the brawl started after the officers stepped in to stop two of the men beating up a

student. that's when a third man got involved. the other school police officer suffered a sprained ankle and some bruises. the video on facebook has 54,000 views and more than 300 shares and 175 comments. if you want to see the entire video, go to the nbc 10 facebook page. philadelphia police released surveillance video of a woman who was able to save herself from being raped. police are hoping the video will lead to the arrest of the att k attacker. police say this man stalked and tried to rape a woman. when he attacked, the woman hit him in the threat and pepper sprayed him. the struggle woke up neighbors who tried to help. >> i wasn't sure what was going on until i heard the woman scream fire which i know to be code for sexual assault. i ran to my windows, tried to find out where she was. >> since the attack, police have passed out crime bulletins to warn neighbors.

police commended the woman for being prepared and aware of her surroundings. this morning, donald trump is now the likely nominee of the republican party after ted cruz suspends had campaign in indianapolis. >> nbc 10's pamela osborne is following the latest in decision 2016. pamela? it was a decisive win for donald trump who took indiana with 53% of the vote. afterwards the rnc chairman tweeted that trump will be the presumptive gop nominee and he said, quote, we all need to unite and focus on defeating hillary clinton. following his loss, cruz is he the math now leaves him no path to victory. >> i'm sorry to say -- >> no! >> it appears that path has been foreclosed. >> no. >> you may remember governor john kasich and cruz agreed to join forces to defeat trump just lastç week. his camp says they're nottive gooding up. a spokesperson with the campaign

out who interrupted bernie sanders after he won indiana last night. all you have to do is click on the decision 2016 logo in the app. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> it's a chilly, rainy, misty morning. the clouds are across delaware and south jersey. the steadiest rainfall has been in the lehigh valley and into philadelphia. we've seen rain showers. now that's just missing philadelphia. allentown, berks county, upper montgomery and bucks county seeing the scattered light showers. we're seeing showers return to central and southern delaware on their way to cape may. it's dry right now in cape may, we will see more showers during the day. the futurecast shows they'll be here around lunch time. light showers in south jersey and into delaware with some steadier rain returning to the lehigh valley as we go into the afternoon and evening hours. there are more chances for rainfall. here's a look at your day in philadelphia.

51 degrees right now. look at the temperatures. only into the middle 50s. those northeasterly winds that we've had for days now, we'll have them for a few more days. that's philadelphia. the pennsylvania suburbs, cooler with the rain showers. 48 degrees. 51 by 10:00 at lunch time, 52 degrdus. another round of showers at lunch time. you will likely see that in the lehigh valley, too. the late morning and early afternoon showers will keep temperatures in the low 50s. right now it's 51 degrees. really not much warmer during the afternoon hours. and in south jersey, hasn't seen a lot of rain this morning. it's 49 degrees with cloudy skies. the chance of showers will be around at noontime. then we could see heavier downpours as we go into the afternoon hours. there's a slight chance of thunderstorms at the jersey shore. look at the winds. stronger, 19 mile-an-hour winds at 2:00 this afternoon. by 5:00, they'll be at 20 miles an hour, keeping temperatures cool and keeping the chance of rain in the area.

traffic light malfunctioning around 26th street and penrose avenue. that intersection doesn't have police activity on the scene directing traffic. it's a potentially dangerous situation. right around the platt bridge. use extra caution. there's also a disabled vehicle in upper dublin. in monroe township, we've been watching this all morning, a downed pole taking out a portion of route 322. that's closed right now for cleanup in both directions around high street. take cross keys road or delsea drive to get by. >> 6:42. a viewer tells us she bought a laptop online and waited for more than four months for it. that's when her frustration took over. >> my voice is not getting heard. i figure it would get heard if somebody like you would put it out there. >> nbc 10 responds, harry hairston got to work getting this woman some answers and her money back. mother nature strikes

moving back towards cape may. we've seen on and off rain in philadelphia and wilmington it's off. cloudy, misty conditions in delaware and south jersey. the rain that's to the north, that's looking a lot less impressive than it did first thing this morning. still rain showers in allentown, they're starting to taper off in the lehigh valley. see widely scattered showers. that's the weather that will be heading our way later this morning and this afternoon. keep your rain jacket or umbrella nearby. and it's another day where you will not need your sunglasses. in fact for the rest of the week you will not need your sunglasses. most of the rain will be light. these are the rain totals forecast by futurecast at noontime today. very light rainfall, just 0.03 inch in philadelphia. as we go into the afternoon, we could see heavier downpours in swedesboro and philadelphia and burlington and burlington county in new jersey. just a slight chance you'll see thunderstorm activity during the day today. here it is, more rain for today and tomorrow and then the steadier rain will be here on

time to get a check of the stories you need to know about. >> one man is dead, another in the hospital after two separate police involved shootings. nbc 10's katy zachry has a closer look at just where that second shooting happened. katy? yes, tracy and vai, that second shooting, a deadly shooting. it happened around 1:00 this morning. here's a closer look of the scene. early reports from police are that the driver of this mini van would not stop in the overbrook section of philadelphia when police tried to pull him over. they say he used his vehicle to try and run them over so they fired several rounds into his vehicle. you can see some of the bullet holes on the exteriorç of the

mini van. the driver was hit and died before getting to the hospital. after the bullets were shot, you can see his mini van hit one car and it was a chain reaction. several cars on this block of lapgster avenue were all hit. the other shooting that happened in southwest philadelphia, police say they were shot at by an individual, an armed man. they were not hurt. they fired back and hit that man in the leg. he is expected to be okay. reporting live in overbrook, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. we'll give you more details about that other police involved shooting. investigators tell us a man shot at officers from a back porch, missed, one of the officers forred back, hitting the man in the leg. he's in the hospital. good morning, i'm pamela osborne. ted cruz has dropped out of the presidential race following his loss to donald trump in indiana. trump took 5 % of the vote.

afterwards, the chairman of the rnc tweeted that trump will be the likely gop nominee. governor kasich's camp tweeted back saying until someone has all of the bound delegates necessary, there is no likely nominee. on the democratic side, bernie sanders celebrated his upset victory over hillary clinton in indiana. clinton used the results of indiana to appeal to donors suggesting people chip in now if they do not want trump to be president. up next, the west virginia primary next tuesday. i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. and happening today, nbc 10 will be in new york as the national police defense foundation presents officer jesse hartnett with his man of the year award. officer hartnett was ambushed in west philadelphia in january. he was shot in the arm several times. good morning, everyone. jessica boyington with one last check on your first alert traffic. we're watching kent county over in delaware for an overturned
