bottom of the screen. when i'm back, a look at the futurecast to show you when the clouds will be coming in today. also i'm tracking showers, too. i'll talk about their arrival when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington is watching first alert traffic. >> right, bill. we're watching the boulevard around 17th street. no problems in either direction. so far this morning, you can see all the traffic moving along delays. not too far away, a downed tree on lincoln drive around gypsy lane. inbound lanes are blocked and one outbound lane is getting by for right now. the rest of the area bridges are doing okay. no scheduled openings on the burlington bristol or the tacony palmyra and getting over the walt or the ben into philadelphia, no problems right now. vai? ç >> all right, thank you, jessie. we're following breaking news out of ocean county.

right now police are on the scene and they're looking for the man who escaped from prison in south jersey. >> they're focusing on a service area along the garden state parkway. let's show you where that is. the forked river service area in lacey township, nbc 10's matt delucia is live there. police say they'll decide sometime in the next couple of hours whether or not nearby schools will be open today. tell us what you know about that. >> reporter: well, tracy, at this point, we're still waiting for daylight as far as whether there will be anything more in the way of a plan for the search. we have seen state police vehicles throughout this service area and around the garden state parkway within the last hour. we saw some of the vehicles leave as well. every now and then, another vehicles come back in and around this area. as far as the schools are concerned, we do not know that at this point. lacey township posted a notice to its residents within the past few hours saying there is no known danger to the residents of this area at this time. let's go to video of this area here, what i was just talking

about in terms of the police presence around here. arthur buckle spotted on surveillance video inside the service area at around 9:30 last night. overnight police have been using canine units searching the wooded areas here. they've been searching from the air as well. we've been told that buckle used an employee's cell phone here at the service station, gave the phone back an then left. take a look at a picture of arthur buckle. he's been serving time for aggravated assault and burglary. he had previously served tim for killing a 10-month-old. as we mentioned, we're expecting more in the way a plan there police on what the next steps will be. for now, the search does continue. both police from lacey and berkeley townships are involved in the search as well. they have increased their patrols near the parkway and at this point, we, again, are still awaiting word if schools will be open.

i'll be back with another update coming up in the next half hour. now i'm live at the forked river service area in ocean county. matt delucia, nbc 10 news. we're following other breaking news for you this morning. one man is in custody as part of a murder investigation in philadelphia. police say this comes after a man called in and said that he killed his girlfriend and when they arrived at the scene they found a woman's body inside the home. nbc 10's katy zachry is live at the scene. walk us through the arrest. >> vai, the latest development happened in the last ten minutes. it's really been a sad and bizarre string of events that transpired here on this 3,200 block of aurora street in kensington. philadelphia police were called to this home that we're focusing in on. the man who lives here called 911 dispatchers saying he strangled his girlfriend to death, she was inside the home

and her four children, all 12 and under were inside the home as well. when police got here, that individual, that man was not here. they later found out he had taken a vehicle and driven out of the area. they did findç his girlfriend fact strangled to death. her four children were asleep at the time. police removed them from the house. they took them to homicide where they were spoken to. right now police are trying to connect them with other family members. so for the past 2 1/2 hours or so, bizarrely, they were in touch with this individual who called 911 admitting to strangling his girlfriend to death. he was actually calling 911 dispatchers. they were calling him. they were in touch with him. they felt that he was a danger to himself as well as people on the roadway, because he was driving. in the last 20 minutes or so, he came back to this philadelphia area and as soon as he exited the highway near the girard area, police were able to follow his car. there was a brief pursuit of

2 1/2 minutes and then he relented, pulled over and police have him in custody. so this is the latest development. we are still working to find out his name and some more information. but that's what we have for you right now. this individual who police say killed a woman inside a home on the 3200 block of aurora street in kensington is in custody. reporting live in kensington, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. 5:05. 52 degrees outside. new in overnight, philadelphia police say a fight between two homeless men ended with a stabbing. the fight started at 12th and race around midnight. the one victim has minor injuries and the other homeless man is now in custody. the university of penn state revealed that it paid out settlements to jerry sandusky accusers for alleged abuse that dates back to 1971. that's 40 years before the former assist and the football coach was arrested.

this is the first time penn state confirmed how far back the settlements went. the school paid more than $90 million to settle more than two dozen civil claims against sandusky. the revelation comes as the university president blasted new allegations involving sandusky and the late joe paterno. court documents suggested that paterno was told in 1976 that sandusky abused someone on campus. he said, i want you to know i am appalled by the rumor, innuendo and rush to judgment that have accompanied these allegations. over the last two days we worked to be dill jen the in analyzing the records, reports and depositions to ensure our reactions and comments are both responsible and trustworthy. the norristown fire department and red cross will be

smoke detectors after a fire over the weekend killed three people, including a child. neighbors have been leaving flowers, stuffed animals and balloons in memory of the victims outsue the burned out home. investigators say all three were trapped when the house erupted in flames. fire officials are still searching for a cause. happening today, a judge is scheduled to sentence a philadelphia man who raped four young girls, antoine brown pleaded no contest. police arrested brownç for assaulting the girls in germantown in four separate incidents back in 2013. the victims were between the ages of 12 and 17 years of age. from our jersey shore bureau, two people are safe after the coast guard rescued them from their sinking sailboat five miles off the coast of sea isle city. here are pictures of the rescue that the coast guard released. the coast god got word yesterday afternoon the boat was in trouble. the coast guard towed the damaged boat back to port.

no one was hurt. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> eight minutes after 5:00. we have clear skies from the city to the shore. nice dry view from wildwood this morning where temperatures are right around 50 degrees. interior spots at the shore are in the low 40s. find 40s, too, in delaware and south jersey. it's just dropped from the 40s into the upper 30s. a chilly morning for the pen suburbs, too, at 42 degrees. some of the cool spots include malvern at 42. phoenixville at 42 and 39 now at collegeville. look at ft. washington at 38 degrees. 37 degrees in new hope. it's a chilly morning. you'll need your jacket to start with. we'll see a nice warmup today. there's the seven-day at the bottom of the screen. it will stay dry today. satellite and radar shows no activity from the shore or inland for our area. not just yet. you can see clouds, starting to move into western pennsylvania.

that's coming off of shower activity in the midwest. that is a possibility for us tomorrow. but there will be some clouds in the area later today, too. you'll see them increasing. mostly high cloudiness so bright sunshine we see will be fading this morning in philadelphia. the suburbs, low 35rs. that's at 8:00. by lunch time, 66 agrees. turning mostly cloudy late this afternoon. dry and for the lehigh valley, plenty of sunshine in the morning and quick warmup, too. 66 degrees. that's by lunch time today. delaware, new jersey, the jersey shore, everybody will start with sunshine but the clouds will be increasing along with those temperatures. 67 degrees in new jersey, that's at 4:00 this afternoon. that's what's going on today. the futurecast shows those clouds coming in to play. that's at 11:00 this morning. mostly high clouds. we'll still see enough sunshine even in those areas that are showing clouds to warm up into the 60s and low 70s. at 3:00 this afternoon, that's when we'll be watching for scattered showers.

a better chance we'll see that tomorrow. i'll go through that with the ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. 5:10 this monday morning. let's get a look at traffic in south jersey. >> nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has you covered with what you need to know. jessica? >> we are watching the 42 free wai right now around route 41 over in the deptford area. you can see with our drive times here, no problems so far northbound from 55 up towards the philadelphia area to the walt whitman bridge. a five-minute trip headed to the walt. hour. westbound and eastbound, both directions between hunting park avenue andç brewery hill drive. no big delays because of it now, just because there's not a lot of cars on the roadways. same goes for route 202 around

family, friends and philadelphia police officers remember officer gary skerski. ten years ago he was gunned down in the line of duty. [ "taps" playing ] >> yesterday about 150 people gathered outside pat's cafe in frankford where the officer was shot. the group held a moment of silence and they placed roses on a plaque dedicated to officer skerski. the 46-year-old was sponld to an armed robbery call at the cafe on may 8th, 2006 when he was shot. he died a few hours later. his killer is serving a life sentence. a philadelphia pilot is in the hospital after crash landing on the roof of a building. take a look at the unusual scene at pomona. drivers started calling 911 when they saw the plane going down.

the pilot said the small plane lost power and suddenly fell. he's being treated for injuries to his head and lower body. a nasty slow-moving weather system could bring hail, damaging wind and tornadoes today to the midwest. >> look at that. the storm is already produced several tornadoes including one a half mile wide in colorado on saturday. at least five people were hurt. debris was scattered for miles. >> it was one of the most -- it was that dramatic. worst i've seen in 35 years. >> in arizona, just an hour of hail saturday is to blame for two deaths and at least six injuries on interstate 40 and a foot of snow was dumped in wyoming yesterday. in mercer county, the coast guard suspended its search for a missing jet skier. jesus diaz melendez and a friend fell into the delaware river when their jet ski ran aground near the trenton boat ramp on

saturday evening. the crew from a nearby boat rescued melendez friend. it's still unclear if he was hurt. the coast guard searched by boat and helicopter for melendez until late saturday night. good quarter past 5:00 a.m. time to get another look at traffic for your morning commute this mortgage. >> nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington is watching the schuylkill. >> the schuylkill expressway looks okay so far. this is around montgomery drive. no problems or delays in either direction right now. a 13-minute trip. if you're heading into center city from the blue route to the vine street expressway, average speeds are still up into the high 50s right now. so no big lane restrictions there. but not the same everywhere. there is construction from an earlier water main break around city avenue headed northbound between 59th street and 54th street. just the right lane is closed. traffic is still getting by the area right now. over in pennsauken, new jersey on the white horse pike around the collins wood circle, no problems or delays in either

direction or backups as you can see. keeping it in new jersey, there is construction tieing things up on the atlantic city brigantine connector southbound and northbound between the express wai and white horse pike. that's scheduled until may 12th. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 17 minutes after 5:00. less than half an hour before sunrise. we have a few scattered clouds. mgsuly we're in the clear right now. it's a bill chilly, too. spring chill is in the air. grab a jacket if you're heading out. during the day, a mild day. lots of sunshine to start with. the clouds will be increased and the winds will be picking up, too. blowing clouds into the area. mostly cloudy by this evening. dry for this evening. that changes tomorrow. right now we're watching the temperatures change. 39 degrees in south jersey. delaware is at 47. for the lehigh valley and the pennsylvania suburbs, into the 40s. in philadelphia, that's 52 degrees at philadelphia international. about the same for central, center city right now. low 40s for chestnut hill and

andorra and into the northeast. somerton at 40 degrees. a chilly start, breezy day. these winds will help us warm up like we did yesterday. in fact, we'll see another beautiful start to the day. the clouds will be blowing some -- the winds will be blowing clouds into the area. it's not going to be sunny all day long. still a nice warmup. low 70s for somerton and chestnut hill. the suburbs into the 70s as well. low 70s for lansdale at 71 degrees. the lehigh valley you'll see a bit more sunshine. the clouds will arrive there last, east into the low 70s. for south jersey, after bright sunshine, 73 degrees in haddonfield and in the shore communities, a little bit cooler for wildwood. the clouds will be increasing there. delaware, expect dover and wilmington to stay dry. there's a chance of a late-day shower in dewey beach as clouds will be increasing and they're coming off of some wet weather in the midwest. and into the ohio valley. those showers have a ways to go before they get to us.

the futurecast does show clouds during the day today. the steadier, heavier rain stays way to the west for today. by tonight, you'll see scattered showers to the south for central and southern delaware and into south jersey. as we go into tomorrow, those clouds will stay with us first thing tomorrow morning. we'll be tracking showers again to the south at 7:00 tomorrow morning. then during the day, we'll see those showers spread northward. wilmington and into south jersey. that's at 12:30 tomorrow. in the afternoon, especially in the late afternoon hours, that's when windshield wipers will be going for philadelphia, the suburbs and into the lehigh valley. there are showers ahead but to start with today, completely dry. the ten-day outlook as us into the low 70s this afternoon. clouds increasing and there's a chance of showers. we'll still get some breaks of sunshine for tomorrow. by wednesday, we're drying out and warming back up. low 60s, back in the middle 70s for wednesday and thursday. the end of the workweek could end with showers and thunderstorms. later in the day on friday.

a brand new state-of-the-art facility will be unveiled today. there was a need in south philadelphia, so they teamed up to create a community health and literacy center. it will how's a c.h.o.p. pediatric care center, a health center, a rec center and library. >> i want people to realize in this community that this is just not a destination for health visits. that this is a destinationç to keep them healthy.

jersey. in the lehigh valley, 44 degrees. you can see scattered clouds there, looking like a nice morning, though. mostly sunny skies at 8:00. by 11:00, 67 degrees and into the low 70s for easton. in fact, everybody will see a warmup. once we get past the chill this morning, we will see enough sunshine to head us into the 70s for most locations, some of the pennsylvania suburbs will stop in the upper 60s this afternoon. there will be more clouds later today than this morning. so you'll need your sunglasses to start with. but for the commute home, maybe not.n cf1 o there are more changes ahead. you may have noticed them with the seven-day forecast at the bottom the screen. one seven day for each part of our area. a look ahead when those showers move into the area. jessica boyington watching first alert traffic. >> we're watching hamilton township in new jersey right now. this is 295 right around sloan avenue. no problems in either direction here. if you're headed towards the new jersey transit train station,
