of some thunderstorms. 66 degrees at lunch time. it won't be as warm as yesterday. we will reach the low 70s for much of the area. new tripoli will be up to 64 degrees with the showers moving in earlier than the rest of the area. so expect the temperatures to warm up but you'll want to carry an umbrella with you. the sunshine not happening for this afternoon. those clouds moving in with storms during the day today. and the first of the showers could be here later this morning. still to the west. you could see the line is moving toward us. look for wet weather this afternoon. right now, jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. jessie? >> that's right, bill. we're watching an accident out in camden,en in nj right now on 676. not causing any major delays so far, because it's headed northbound into the walt whitman bridge area. that's right over here. we're all still in the green. that's what we look like for the most part across the board. the right shoulder is only closed here. that accident scene, again, is
not taking out any major lanes. word of that vehicle is over into the trees right now, over into the shoulder. the dad vail regatta is tieing things up this weekend, starting yesterday, kelly drive was closed between strawberry mansion drive and fountain green drive. that will be an active closure until tomorrow, saturday around 6:00 p.m. and we'll have more updates when i come back in the next ten minutes we'll check in with the schuylkill expressway. 6:03 and 61 degrees outside. we continue to follow breaking news for you this morning. armed men tie up and rob a philadelphia family in their home. nbc 10's katy zachry is live on the scene. katy, what have you been able to learn? >> the most interesting thing about this, tracy, is the family tells me, the men midway through the ordeal asked each other, do we have the right house? the family insists they did not have the right house. they say they were wrongly targeted, as we push into the home where this happened overnight. the family tells me they've lived at this the home for 40
years. they say nothing has ever happened to them. they felt incrediblyç safe on this block in the northeast section of philadelphia because so many people who live here are police officers. investigators say around 1:15 this morning, three men wearing masks and gloves and at least one showing a gun broke into this home on the 14,000 block of this street, tied up the couple in their 60s who was living here, as well as their adult son, all three people were sleeping inside. the group demanded to know where the money was, they kept repeating, where is the money? the family insisted they didn't have any. >> it's actually one of the quietest neighborhoods in the city. why this particular house was targeted is unknown. according to the family, they did not have a lot of cash in the house. >> so the three men who broke into this home after they were told we don't have any money, we don't have the money you're looking for, the men ransacked three floors of this home,
turning over furniture, toppling over valuables and electronics. they did leave with an undisclosed amount of money from the adult son's wallet. they got away and police say they're still looking for them. they're hoping that a search in this area, a large one with exterior surveillance cameras captured the men coming or leaving. fortunately, the three victims were not injured. reporting live in northeast philadelphia, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. more breaking news. just look at these flames. it's a forest fire in burlington county that's burned throughout the night into the morning. the fire's raging in bass river state forest, close to burlington county's border with ocean county. there are reports of flames consuming hundreds of acres near the garden state parkway. we checked on this, traffic on the parkway not affect right now. no buildings have been involved in this fire. fire officials are saying the fire is 60% contained. just tap the nbc 10 app for immediate updates.
new from overnight, philadelphia police are looking into the death of a man hit by a car on roosevelt boulevard in olney. accident investigators are telling us it happened while the victim was crossing the boulevard at c street. medics rushed him to einstein hospital where he died. police say this is not a hit and run. at this point, there are no charges or arrests. a federal judge will consider the motion to stop the release of a list of unindicted co-conspirators in the bridgegate scandal. a lawyer who filed a motion for an anonymous man says releasing the list would unfairly brand his client as a criminal. former aides to governor chris christie face charges of plotting to close lanes on the george washington bridge in 2014 or political payback. christie said he does not expect to be on that list. also happening today, septa's general manager will
speak to a civic group in montgomery county about a planned rail extension for king of prussia. septa wants to extend the norristown high speed line. the route would bring trains to and from the king of prussia mall, valley forge casino, hotels and business centers in the area. some home owners are concerned the project would lower property values and cause traffic, noise and safety problems. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley.ç >> get a great view of the sun coming up this morning. you can also clearly see the clouds that are moving in. this is the view from center city, looking up the delaware this morning. that's sunshine will be fading. even though there are no rain drops in the area just yet, that is likely to happen later this morning. but especially this afternoon. as you can see by the seven-day, today is not the only chance you'll see rain drops. right now, the clouds keeping us warm, 60 degrees in philadelphia and delaware, into the upper 50s for south jersey, into the
suburbs, 58 degrees. the lehigh valley is at 63 degrees. the temperatures will be climbing. at this hour they're holding steady. 59 degrees in northeast philadelphia in bustleton. clouds, here they come. look at that, no rain just yet. it is to the west, this line of showers with heavy downpours now in southwestern pennsylvania. this is what we could see this afternoon. the first of the rain drops could be leer late this morning. the best chance of heavy downpours and thunderstorms will be sweeping through the area during the afternoon hours. see it here on the futurecast. this is 7:00 this morning, a chance of a sprinkle or a light shower first thing, then mainly cloudy as we head into the 11:00 hour. by lunch time we'll see that line of showers developing to the west. at 2:00 it's in some of the suburbs, into the lehigh valley and sweeping through philadelphia at 3:00 in the afternoon, on the way to the shore by 4:00. it's a fast mover and it will be
out of here this evening. then another chance of showers will be with us for tomorrow. so for today within clouds through the day and those afternoon storms for university, low 70s. the suburbs will see the showers move through, late-day sunshine for lansdale and malvern and in the lehigh valley, bethlehem and easton, 60s. you'll see those showers this morning and breaks the sunshine during the afternoon hours. for new jersey, a mostly cloudy morning. yes, some sunshine at the shore. cooler, though, with the winds coming in off of the ocean. 68 degrees in atlantic city this afternoon. late-day storms also for delaware, 73 degrees for lewes, delaware and up to 71 for wilmington. those storms will be out of here by this evening. and then the weekend, yes, rain is a possibility once again. we'll get the storms that roll through today and then tomorrow, the next round of showers and thunderstorms is likely to come in during the late afternoon hours. we will get sunshine before those storms move in. lots of sunshine for sunday.
it's going to be much cooler and breezy, too. full ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. all right, bill, 6:10 this friday morning. friday typically one of our lighter days on the roads. >> there's always things that can pop up. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has you covered on the schuylkill expressway. >> yes, not anything popping up here yet. the schuylkill still doing great even with it starting to get into the time where we usually see big delays. there's still people out the door right now. montgomery drive on the schuylkill, no big problems. both lanes eastbound or westbound moving along okay. eastbound drive time, still in the green, 13 minutes from the blue route to the vine street expressway. speeds are into the 60s. there's some construction over in new jersey, though, on route 70, headed westbound between 295 and westgate drive. cherry hill, you may see backups. camden, this accident scene on 676 not making big deals out of jams or backups, behind, in
front of or around it. approaching the walt whitman bridge area, the right shoulder is closed in traffic. if you take mass transit, also good to go, pretty much running on time or close to schedule for septa, amtrak, new jersey transit and the pat toe speed line. in less than an hour, athletes hit the schuylkill river for the largest collegiate rowing event in the country. >> the dad vail regatta is really a jewel in the crown of philadelphia. >> next, we'll take you live along the schuylkill for a preview of what to expect from this year's competition. 6:11. also this morning, president obama makes a new push for his policy on bathroom access to transgender students. we'll break down his order to public schools.
it's 6:15 right now. 61 degrees and look at this, a live look at boathouse row. runners and walkers usually line kelly drive to get in exercise about this time of day. today it is all about the rowers. the dad vail regatta starts within the hour. >> when i was doing sports, this is one of the marquise events in this city. matt delucia is live along the schuylkill river where college athletes are getting ready to hit the water. >> we're seeing some of the rowers show up here, 45 minutes to go until the first races here at the dad vail regatta. it's been running for 78 years. it's a long time philadelphia tradition and take a look. we caught up with some of the growers as they were practicing yesterday. 3,300 rowers from 125 colleges and university, along with an estimated 25,000 spectators. they're all going to be here over the next two days. it's the largest collegiate regatta in north america. people are here from all over, california, canada, even an
official here from england. you know what, we have to love our hometown folks. i just spoke with a rower from temple university, looking forward to this big weekend. >> it only happens one time a year. it's exciting to see so many people down here. it's a couple hundred thousand people that come down between competitors and spectators. it's exciting to hear that loud roar. >> you prepare a long time for something like this? >> yes. probably pushing a few thousand hours now, getting ready for this regatta. >> and another live look out here on the schuylkill river. some of the folks are practicing. you hear just how long it takes to get ready for something like this. this is a very big weekend. it's a beautiful morning here. these folks are preparing for the possibility of showers and storms later on this afternoon. only if there's lightning will

reporter jessica boyington has you covered on that end. >> how do you even know that, vai? that's so funny. dad vail regatta, if you're just tuning in, you heard the very end of that. take kelly drive every single day, what am i going to do? it will be closed until tomorrow, so saturday, around 6:00 p.m. not a whole lot of delays, of course, right now. you can see the schuylkill expressway is a great alternate for you. take mlk drive. that won't be closed. there may be more backups because of it. route 422 around 29. looks okay either direction. no problems or delays yet. eastbound drive time from 29 to the schuylkill expressway is only eight minutes and speeds are into the 60s. we're watching construction. this is on bustleton avenue, headed southbound around byberry road. route 38 along cuthbert boulevard, no problems or delays. this is what most of the majors
look like in new jersey and pennsylvania. we will update you in case anything starts to back up in the text ten minutes. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> dry this morning and cloudy. but it is going to be a mild start to the day. we will see a warmup during the day today, into the 70s this afternoon. we'll be keeping an eye on boathouse row for the dad vail regatta along the banks of the schuylki schuylkill. those winds will be blowing, no sign of any showers until we get into the late morning and aft afternoon hours. there's a chance you'll need to grab an umbrella as showers and thunderstorms will be sweeping through the area. by this evening, we'll be clearing out. it will be a nice start to the weekend, though there's another chance that the dad vail will see more clouds over the weekend. those showers on the radar screen and heavier downpours in southwestern pennsylvania, those are on track for us for this
afternoon. most likely during the afternoon hours. that's when we'll get this line coming through. it's not going to be an all-day rainfall. clouds, however, they'll be here throughout the day today. 9:00 this morning, a sprinkle is possible. maybe even a brief shower farther north and west. by 11:00 we're watching that line develop to the west and here it comes, those storms increasing. that's 2:00 this afternoon. so between 2:00 and 3:00, most lakely to see those lightning strikes in the area and could delay the dad vail at that time. keep an eye on the sky as we're heading into the late afternoon hours for the shore and into delaware, too. those storms will be on the move. they'll keep going. futurecast showing we're clearing out nicely for this evening. ten-day outlook, clouds today, showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon. 72 degrees, the high temperature. 73 tomorrow. we'll get some sunshine to start another line of storms coming through. then with the cold front which will clear things out and cool us down for sunday, a breezy

25 minutes past 6:00 right now. we have new information about allegations of bribes and doping surrounding the olympics. this morning, a committee in tokyo says it did, it did make nearly $3 million in payments to a firm in singapore in relation to its bid to host the 2020 games but they say those payments were legitimate consulting fees, not bribes. meantime, vladimir putin is denying allegations that the russian state organized and covered up doping back in the 2014 olympic games in sochi. and from our jersey shore bureau, we're working to confirm reports that legislative leaders in trenton may have reached a tentative deal on a plan to save atlantic city from financial collapse. there's no formal bill just yet and no one is publicly confirming the deal. one lawmaker told nj.com that the deal could give ac about five months to cut spending and fix its problems before the state would take over.
meantime, there's a new sign that atlantic city's remaining eight casinos are thriving those casinos took in $215 million just last month. that's up more than 8% over april of last year. philadelphia ranks among top ten worst cities for dog attacks on mail carriers. >> that's according to the new annual rankings by the u.s. postal service. philly comes in at number seven nationwide and ranks as the worst among east coast cities. the postal service reports 44 dog attacks on postal workers last year. that's up 15% over the year before. houston tops the nationwide list with 77 attacks on mail carriers in 2015. this morning, we are following two breaking stories, first crews working to contain this forest fire along the burlington ocean county line. we'll tell you about the damage that's already done and how crews are working to snuff out this fire. in our other breaking story, a home invasion in northeast

neighborhood forecast. bill? >> tracy, the good news is that they are not going to be here through the morning commute. even though our skies are mostly cloudy, there are a couple areas seeing sunshine. look at the lehigh valley. this is easton, live view there. clouds are moving in. it will be dry to start with. as we go into the lunch time hour, we could see showers and thunderstorms develop in the lehigh valley. the rest of the area, clouds will stay put for most of the day and in fact, increase. it's this afternoon that we'll see storms move through. not expecting an all-day rainfall here. certainly starting off dry. look at that line to the west. there are heavier downpours now in western pennsylvania that are just moving to the southeast of pittsburgh. this line will be arriving here late this morning and most likely this afternoon. we're starring off dry. we've seen a sprimpg or two moving through upper montgomery and bucks county. at this time it is dry, which is good news for the commute. when i come back, i'll show you why you need the windshield
wipers and umbrella as we go into the afternoon commute. that's in ten minutes. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> we're watching 295 in new jersey, around the black horse pike. no problems in either direction. we're having a really quiet friday morning commute so far. southbound from 38 to this point at the black horse pike, a 12-minute trip. speeds into the 60s. if you're heading to the philadelphia area from 295 or if you have to get to south jersey and take the 42 freeway, you'll be just fine. no problems or delays there. we are seeing some delays in camden on 676 headed northbound just right around exit 2 approaching the walt whitman bridge area. the right shoulder is closed with an accident. that accident actually has the vehicle over into the side shoulder or into the trees. i am seeing reported there. we are seeing some delays because of that. the off ramps are still closed on 95 with that construction. 95 northbound at cottman, allegheny and girard. 95 southbound around aramingo
avenue. those are closed for ongoing construction. we're seeing annan crease in the drive times here, southbound from the woodhaven road to the vine street expressway. an 18-minute trip. just a little bit slow. tracy? >> we continue to follow breaking news this morning at 6:33. police are looking for three armed bandits who terrorized a family in northeast philadelphia. investigators tell us the men broke into this home on faraday street, tied up a couple and their adult son, took money from the son's wallet and then left. no one was hurt. breaking news out of burlington county. flames continue to rip through a state forest near the garden state parkway. skyforce 10 took this video of the fire that's raging in the pine barons. the fire is not affecting traffic on the parkway in any way. but so far, no buildings are affected either. here's a closer look at where this fire is burning. it's in the bass river state forest. that's close to burlington
county's border with ocean county. and let's give you another look at the flames from skyforce 10. more then a dozen fire engines are battling the flames. officials say the fire is 60% contained. you can tap the nbc 10 app for updates. 6:34. 61 degrees outside. happening tooed, president obama has a clear message for public schools when it comes to bathroom access for transgender students. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in the digital operations center. pamela, what can you tell bus that. >> >> the federal government is basically saying that school districts have an obligation to provide students with nondiscriminatory environments. these guidelines have been put in place to help protect the rights of transgender students. starting today, public schools throughout the country will be directed by the departments of justice and education to allow students to use the bathrooms that are consistent with their gender identity. this also applies to locker rooms. the guidelines themselves are
not legally beepding but school districts, that discriminate could risk losing federal funding. north carolina defends its restrictive bathroom policies in the a legal battle with the justice department. reporting live from the digital operations center, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> thank you. today in allentown, a judge will hear testimony to see if a former professional wrestler is mentally fit to stand trial for the murder of his mistress. jimmy "superfly" snuka is accused of killing nancy argentina in 1983. her body was followed at this motel. snuka is now 72 years old. his lawyers said he suffers from dementia and doesn't understand the legal case that he's facing. and prosecutors say they will not charge four wilmington police officers who shot and killed a man who was in a wheelchair last year. >> show me your hands! >> cell phone video taken prior
to the shooting shows police repeatedly telling mcdole to put his hands up within he instead reached into his waistband, four officers shot and killed him. evidence shows mcdole was armed with a gun, officials say. among the highlights are enhanced surveillance of mosquitos and of possible zika cases. the state health department will develop a plan to test the virus without using cdc labs and health officials stiwill step u their efforts. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> lots of clouds but it's not cold. the temperatures are staying mild this morning. that's a live view from wilmington where we will see some showers and possibly thunderstorms. right now, it's clouds that are moving into the area. the showers and thunderstorms
most likely as we head into the late morning and afternoon hours. here's the futurecast which shows by 11:30, light showers from the suburbs into the wilmington area and philadelphia. might see a moderate shower. not expect a lot with those showers but another line of storms moving through this afternoon. that's when we could see thunder and lightning could leave parts of south jersey with more than an inch of rain. philadelphia has more than a quarter inch and closer to half inch of rain for pottstown. with those storms during the day today, we could see heavy downpours. starting out dry for your morning commute, 06 degrees. the clouds are over center city. the temperatures will climb upper 60s by lunch time. that's when we could see the first showers move into the philadelphia area. the suburbs likelyç see the showers first with the temperatures in the low 60s at 10:00, the first rain drops are falling and then the chance of thunderstorms as we go into the afternoon. that sunshine in the lehigh valley, that fades as the morning progresses with showers moving in during the afternoon, less likely you'll see storms in
the lehigh valley. but you can't say the same for new jersey. lightning is possible as we go into the afternoon hours. the temperatures upper 60s for south jersey and at the shore, a little bit cooler as the winds come out of the south, coming across that water, 61 degrees at 10:00. 62 this afternoon at noontime and then showers into the late afternoon hours at the shore. for delaware, starting off dry, yes, with clouds, 60 degrees. 56 with those storms sweeping through this afternoon. though there's a chance of storms even into the late afternoon hours, it doesn't look like they're going to be lasting all day. that's today. there's the seven-day at the bottom of the screen. got your ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. 6:38 this friday morning. if you're using the blue route to get to work or school, i want to help you out. >> let's find out if there's something happening we should know about. >> we don't have major delays or problems on the blue route but we are watching a disabled vehicle. this is on the blue route ramp
from the blue route northbound to the schuylkill expressway westbound. no big delays. all traffic still moving by. this car is actually pulled over or at least stuck into the side shoulder there. all lanes still getting by on the ramp. this is definitely something to watch out for if you're out the door on the blue route. camden, an accident still out there, causing a bit of a delay. the right lane is closed and that vehicle is off into the shoulder. so with that shoulder, a closure in place, we're seeing small delays. nothing too major. route 73 around cooper road over in voorhees, new jersey. no big backups in either direction on 73 right now. we're having a really light friday. more updates when i'm back in the next ten. tracy? 6:39. the secret service has its eye on donald trump's butler after an alleged threat against president obama. we'll tell how how trump is trying to distance himself from the situation.

victims of a deadly amtrak derailment one year after it happened. neighbors and city leaders held a candle light vijing gil at the of the amtrak wreck. >> we hope it's a thorough examination of all of the issues, not the issue of theç conductor. >> he was referring to the man operating train 188 who has not been charged. the vigil also honored first responders, red cross volunteers and neighbors who rushed to help some 200 people who were hurt in the crash. that amtrak derailment has had a lasting impact on railroad safety. since the crash, amtrak installed ptc on all of its rails along the northeast corridor. before it only had it on some. the train safety system automatically slows a speeding train and can help avoid a collision. septa also uses ptc.
the general manager says the system is already on stalled in one rail line and will be on every line by the end of july. donald trump's former butler has drawn the attention of the secret service for online threats he's made to president obama. he says he thinks the president should be hung and muslims trying to enter the country should be shot. he also suggested that nuclear bombs be dropped on u.s. cities where muslims live. trump's campaign e-mailed a statement saying they completely disavow the horrible statements made by him regarding the president and first family. former president clinton will campaign at the university in ewing. hillary clinton was in camden county wednesday ahead of new jersey's june 7th primary. 6:45. 61 degrees outside. from our delaware bureau now,
kent county officials have broken ground on a brand new 85 acre sports complex. crews are building the delaware turf sports complex in fredericka. here's a picture of what it will look like. the project includes a stadium, fields for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. it is graduation day at villanova university. the school's 173rd commencement starts at 4:00 this afternoon. ceremonies normally happen outside, of course, but because of the possibility of showers and thunderstorms, the university moved the sayceremoi indoors to the pavilion today. >> we are honoring and congratulating jay wright and the villanova university men's basketball team on winning the 2016 ncaa men's national basketball championship. applause here. valley. for new jersey, low 70s, the storms this afternoon will sweep through and into the jersey shore. upper 60s for wildwood, atlantic city 68 degrees and in delaware, lewes will see 73 degrees, mostly cloudy skies in wilmington. those afternoon storms roll through. they'll clear out for the evening. here it is, the futurecast, 11:00 this morning. you see the showers picking up. impressive downpours, that's at 1:00 this afternoon. those sweep through philadelphia and into new jersey and delaware. that's at 3:00. by 4:00, and 5:00, they're affecting the shore with heavy downpours. there they go. they're out of here for this evening. and for tomorrow morning but then tomorrow afternoon, here comes another round of showers and thunderstorms and into the evening hours. we've got a couple opportunities to use the umbrellas. 72 degrees, sunshine to start with for saturday. 73 the high temperature and then we clear out after those storms,

four before 7:00 right now. we're following breaking news in northeast philadelphia where police are looking for three burglars in a home invasion. >> nbc 10's katy zachry has been following this story throughout the morning. this isn't just a burglary story. there's an interesting twist. >> this family was sleeping, they were terrorized overnight in their own home. the family tells me the intruders got the wrong house. philadelphia police say around 1:15 this morning, three masked men broke into this home on faraday street. they tied up the couple and their adult son. they demanded money from the victims. the victims kept telling the intruders we don't have any money. at one point one of the intruders said to his accomplices, do we have the wrong house? philadelphia police tell us they are looking into that possibility. the victims, while extremely
