it's 5:00 on this saturday. thanks for getting up with us. meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking the changes in the neighborhood weather. quite a difference from yesterday, michelle. >> yesterday was so nice. temperatures in the upper 70s. today is a big difference. you definitely need the umbrella. it's going to be cool and windy. kind of a damp day. it's saturday and it's raining once again. here is a live look outside. cloudy right now pretty much all across the area. the rain is on the doorsteps. we'll see that developing over the next couple of hours. we're still dark right now. the sun will be rising in the next couple hours, and then we'll see the rain arriving. this is a broader view on radar. heavy rain to the south and west. this is headed our way. it's going to take over our area over the next couple hours. you'll need the umbrella pretty soon. we'll see rain heavy at times. we're dry for the most part right now but the rain is not
far away. it may take a while to reach the ground, but then it finally will and we'll see a rainy saturday. right now temperatures mainly in the 50s. 52 return in the lehigh valley. 52 in the suburbs, 57 in delaware. 56 in philadelphia and 54 in south jersey. zooming into the neighborhoods. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s right now. not going far from here by the afternoon. 58 in west mount. temperatures in the mid or upper 50s in box chase. society hill right around 60. it's a busy time of here, and the weather will impact a number of events around our region today, including the largest high school rowing competition in the world. nbc10's monique braxton is live along the river. >> reporter: it is quiet here now, but this is normally the time of morning when the rowers get up, head to the local river
to practice. as you can see right now, we're here along what is called a makeshift food court. no one has arrived yet to begin cooking the breakfast. it is still dark. but we do see that, when folks arrive here to cook, the participants as well as their parents will have plenty to choose from. hundreds of rowers will descend on the schuylkill river in a few hours. we have video to show you from the oldest and largest high school rowing competition in the country. we spoke to some folks who will be spending their second day here at the regatta. some from as far as way as canada. they tell us they could not be more excited. they're hoping mother nature helps out. coming up we'll tell you what's new this year and what you can expect along with the numbers of participants as well as the numbers of boats that are part of this regatta.
live for now along kelly drive, monique braxton, nbc10 news. >> thanks for that, monique. see you shortly. the spring festival goes on today rain or shine. this is video from last year's event. the festival showcases the area's finest foods and fashions. check it out from noon to 5:00 today along walnut street. bring your umbrella with you. new from overnight. one man is dead and two others wounded in a shooting in north philadelphia. police called to north 13th street, a block away from temple university hospital around 11:30 last night. there they found an 18-year-old man dead after being shot in the head. another man was shot twice. a third victim had a graze wound. right now there are no arrests. also overnight a fireworks accident sent a man to the hospital with a hand injury. just after 1:00 this morning police responded to a report of an explosion on mutter street
here in north philly. officers tell us the man lost four fingers in the accident. we have new information on a story we first told you about as breaking news last night at 11:00. police investigating a deadly crash in chester county as a possible dui. skyforce10 was over the scene in coats coatsvil coatesvil coatesville. reports on social media say a driver was going the wrong way on the bypass and caused the crash. police shut down the westbound lanes of route 30 for several hours. it's now back open. he was pretty low. then we got reports a blimp. a blimp crash-landing in philadelphia. not something you see every day. two people on board the aircraft were not hurt. federal investigators are now looking into the crash in fishtown last night.
it happened in a construction yard near i-95. viewers shared this cellphone video with nbc10. the blimp had deflated. the blimp floated down across delaware avenue just missing a utility pole. >> the blimp had a hard landing and engine problems. it was overheating. the substructure is made out of metal. hit the wires and we could have a lot different incident. >> as you can see the pilot and his passenger were okay. probably a little shaken up. no one on the ground was hurt and no property was damaged. the blimp belonged to an advertising agency. many viewers sent us pictures of the blimp. this morning a philadelphia man is wanted on attempted murder charges for allegedly trying to run over a police officer in chester county while driving a stolen vehicle. tyrell winchester is considered dangerous. authorities say he intentionally rammed an officer's cruiser with
a stolen car during a pursuit thursday afternoon in willis township. he was last seen near wrigley state park. anybody with information is asked to call police. a suspected car thief is in custody after a standoff with philly police. skyforce10 was over the scene last night. police tell us it began when officers started to follow a man. the officers could see the man had a gun and pointed it at them. one officer fired three shots, missing the man. the suspect then ran into a building. after a couple hours of negotiating police went into the apartment, the man surrendered. the gun he had, police tell us, was fake. 5:07 right now on this saturday. investigators are looking at new clues as to what may have

year around 71. looking better around monday. >> thanks, michelle. today philadelphia's fire department holds a high-rise training dill in center city. a live look at the melon building near 17th and market streets where fire commanders will practice using advanced mobile apps. the technology is designed to give commanders a more rapid read of potentially dangerous situations at some of the city's tallest buildings. the drill begins this morning at 9:00. also today, a fallen philadelphia firefighter will be honored with a walk and run in may fair. the 8th annual fallen heroes run starts at 8:30 this morning. in the past the event has raised more than $50,000 for the families of police and firefighters killed in the line of duty. this year lieutenant robert neary is being honored. he died in 2012 in a fiery collapse along with another firefighter. a street fair after the race has

police say one person is dead after a shooting at a buffalo, new york, bar credited with inventing the popular buffalo-style wings. according to investigators, a man walked into the kitchen of the anchor bar around 7:00 last night and shot and killed an employee. another worker was hurt by a ricocheting bullet. the suspect ran off. the anchor bar has been serving their famous spicy chicken wings since 1964. to the latest on the crash of the egyptair flight. investigators now say smoke was detected in multiple places on the plane before it crashed in the mediterranean sea, but the cause remains unclear. search crews are still looking
for the black box recorders. they have recovered human remains and wreckage from that flight. again, still no clear explanation for what brought the plane down late wednesday night our time. 66 people were on board. egyptian authorities think terrorism is likely but no terror group has claimed responsibility. now to our decision 2016 coverage. donald trump, the presumptive presidential nominee now has the endorsement of the national rifle association. the nra threw its support behind donald trump an hits convention in kentucky yesterday. trump promised the crowd he wouldn't let them down. he attacked the gun policies of democratic frontrunner hillary clinton. >> crooked hillary clinton is the most anti-gun, anti-second amendment candidate ever to run for office and, as i said before, she wants to abolish the second amendment. she wants to take your guns away. she wants to abolish.
>> today clinton is scheduled to be at a gun control event with mothers of shooting victims. former secretary of state hillary clinton sits down exclusively with chuck todd on nbc's "meet the press" tomorrow morning at 10:30 right here on nbc10. thousands of bernie sanders supporters are expected to protest the democratic national convention here in philadelphia in july. sanders is battling clinton for the party's nomination. black men for bernie is one of four groups planning rallies. people can demonstrate at city hall. thomas payne plaza and fdr park, the place closest to the wells fargo center, the site of the convention. the debate over gentrification can get heated in fl philadelphia's neighborhoods. the census study found only 4%
of them had truly gentrified. including graduate hospital. pash ung square and northern liberty. more of the city went further into poverty during those years. >> we were surprised by the gaps between 15 tracts that gent trified, 164 where income went down. >> the biggest impacts were higher home values and taxes and changes in racial and ethnic makeup. philadelphia remains the nation's fifth largest city according to new census numbers. don't expect that to last. rapidly growing, phoenix, arizona, is expected to outpace philly soon. today candidakentucky derby

here. even pockets of rain. even into the afternoon to evening hours we'll see the potential for heavy rain. future cast showing us the time. you see the rain overspreading the area by 7:30. throughout the morning there is the rain, even pockets with yellow showing up. it's really the afternoon/evening hours where we see the heavy rain showing up. by 11:30 the rain falling still. then you see more yellow coming into the map. that's the heavier rain setting up. this is 3:00. and even by the evening we are looking at heavier rain as well. so your saturday night plans may be a little wet as well. current wind speeds not too bad but the winds will pick up throughout the afternoon especially along the coast. if you're heading to the festival. by 5:0059 degrees. not the greatest day to be outdoors. temperatures around 59 by the afternoon. tomorrow a little bit better. mostly cloudy, chance of showers, 71. chance of showers still on

more than 350,000 people suffer sudden cardiac arrest every year, yet less than half are helped with cpr from a by-stander. burlington county and virtua are teaming up to try to improve the numbers and survival rates with the help of your smartphone. matt delucia explains how the technology in your pocket could save a life. >> reporter: part of the problem is that not enough people know how to properly perform cpr.
by the time this story is over at least one person in the u.s. somewhere will die from sudden cardiac arrest. now, with the help of an app and an alert, help could be on the way [ sirens ] >> reporter: sudden cardiac arrest claims a life every two minutes. and nearly all of them die because treatment doesn't start fast enough. >> are you okay? are you okay? >> reporter: that is why the person sitting next to you can be your best hope. >> it's the foundation for any chance of a person surviving a cardiac arrest. >> reporter: dr. joseph hummel says nationally the survival rate is less than 10%. last year burlington county survival rate shot up to 39%. >> put your arms here and push down like that. >> the goal is to get as many people possible trained in cpr. >> reporter: a class -- >> it brings up right on the map. >> reporter: -- combined with an app. >> the now everyone can
participate. >> reporter: pulse point. launched in the county late last year. when someone calls 911 to report an unconscious person dispatchers push an alert to cpr-trained app users within a quarter mile of the incident. >> the phone starts to vibrate and alerts a tone and shows on the map the location of the incident and says, cpr is needed. >> reporter: the idea is to get cpr started as fast as possible, even before ems shows up. more than 900 people in burlington county have downloaded the app, and it's already been used several times. community cpr programs have been used in other cities like seattle where survival rates sky-rocketed. >> you have to be able to help, you can't just walk past them. >> reporter: a free cpr class is held in west hampton every month. all these people didn't know cpr before. now they do. >> every second of life counts, and if you don't take advantage
of what you can do, you know, you'll lose those seconds and the person will expire. >> reporter: in west hampton, burlington county, matt delucia, nbc10 news. 5:27 right now on this saturday. today in chester county, the 86th annual radnor hunt races are scheduled rain or shine. the first race starts at 1:30. it features an empty carriage parade and empty tail gate competition. proof that philly fans come in all shapes and sizes. last night was philly's bark at the park. the parade was right before the game. there were dogs available for adoption and a collection area for pets in need. after the parade wrapped up the pups got to stick around for the game and have a hot dog. we are tracking rain for our saturday. hate to say it. the organizers of the stotesbury
