right now on nbc 10 news today, animal abuse in delaware coupty. two dogs set on fire and now police are looking for who could have committed that act of cruelty. and honoring the fallen this memorial day weekend. a look at the events remembering the true meaning of this holiday weekend. plus, we're tracking storms from tropical storm bonnie. when the rain will start in your neighborhood and how long it will last. good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm george spencer.
it is now 5:30 on this sunday morning. let's get to our weather. s conditions right now are dry. tropical storm bonnie is expected to make land fall soon. once it does we'll have tropical moisture headed our way. showers will start later in afternoon and isolated thunderstorms throughout the overnight hours. a minor concern of mine would be rip tide issues if is not a major concern, but you have to keep it in mind for high tide later this afternoon between 1:50 and 2:30 p.m. clouds are developing right now. but as it continues, we will see
that tropical moisture continue to work it's way up the eastern sea board. more rain on the way tonight and into tomorrow. for rounds of therms to kick off your monday morning when a lot of you will be traveling back to your home or work. soly go through your future cast and we'll talk about how much we can expect tomorrow. it could get messy. >> memorial day weekend is in full swing up and down the jersey shore. the first full weekend is being called a major success. warm summer-like temperatures bringing in big crowds. the temperature was really just right for spending the day by the water. businesses also say they saw big crowds, a solid start to their summer season. families tell us the beach and sunshine made for the perfect start of that unofficial summer
season. >> happy all of the time. there is nothing disappointing to them any more. >> just a great feeling right now. it don't get no better than this. >> also last night, the jersey shore pops kicked off their summer season with the sounds of frank sinatra. and the festivities continue today in cape may. right here is a beautiful live look at cape may where a music festival begins tonight with american music. the american brass band will take the stage at 8:00 tonight. >> also today at valley forge descendents and friends will remember soldiers that lost their lives in world war i. it will be in the washington memorial kpchapel at 2:00 this
afternoon. it will include a reenactment of "taps." and two people will be added to the memorial tomorrow. two men became ill in the vietnam war and died. it will bring the number of names on that memorial in philadelphia to 668. this weekend, people all across the region are paying tribute to those who gave their lives for our country. nbc 10 was at the veterans
cemetery. and these volunteered spent part of their saturday placing american flags on the graves of veterans. they were honored at calvary cemetery. >> it is humbling that people still remember. that is what memorial day is about. those who served our country. that's week they placed flags on graves at three other local cemeteries. take this free nbc 10 a for you for your memorial day plans. check the first alert forecast and personize it right down to your neighborhood. a father and his 4-year-old son are both in stable condition
this morning after a tree branch fell on them at the state park in bucks county. we see how a family picnic turned into an emergency situation. >> video at this first park show first responders clearing the way for a man pinned underneath. >> park rangers say it was a large tree limb that fell 50 feet. witnesses say they heard cracking. rangers said the father picked up his 4-year-old son but could not get away in time. >> there was one guy, he took the tree off of the guy, the tree was so heavy, but he moved. >> the father and his 4-year-old son were taken to the hospital
while it was secured. >> trees in the park are usually surveyed after storms. the limb seems healthy today and there was no forewarning. >> so was it like a freak accident then? >> trees fall all of the time. we do our best to make sure in our heaviest used areas we expect them all of the time. >> the park was packed with families enjoying the warm weather during this holiday weekend. >> it was fast. we came here to have a good time. >> that specific area of the park will remain closed for the rest of the weekend until park rangers can determine that no one was will be in danger. police chester are investigating a deadly case of animal cruelty. two dogs tied up and set on
fire. someone called in and found the animals on west 6th street. they may have been dead before the fire. tests will officially determine how they died. police are searching for the drive that hit and killed a man yesterday morning and then took off. the victim was crossing the intersection at highways 30 and 9. anyone with information should call police. police are also investigating a deadly hit-and-run. a car hit a pedestrian last night in folsom. police there say they're still working to get a description of the car that drove off. >> a motorcycle rider that was
injured when his bike collided with a car in philadelphia has now died. it happened early yesterday morning. the driver of the car was not hurt. police say the rider lost control of the motorcycle. next, a new push for votes in our area by hillary clinton as we get closer to the new jersey primary. and what her competitor for the democratic nomination is saying about clinton's possible choice fora vice president. and a first for the philly pops. how this could become a tradition.

hard-line progressive should she win the nomination. sanders said doing so is critical to winning over his supporters. he made the comments in an interview for tomorrow morning. bernie sanders says he is confident he can win in california. the latest polls show a statistical tie. >> and donald trump says he can turn california from blue to red by appealing to working class voters. he spent much of the last week campaigning in california and he say it's is key to his general election campaign. he plans to spend today in washington dc attending a memorial day weekend biker tour that honoring veterans. >> and we told you about the

the next hour or so. we quickly track the storm up the eastern seaboard, and we see the trajectory as it goes out to sea. the clouds will develop and showers on the way followed by thunderstorms. so storms included add dry start, a clear day, and clouds on the ride. increasing clouds that the hour and overnight thunderstorms. we could see localized flooding and i will show you the future cast so we can time this out for you. it looks like downpours for the early a.m. hours. heads up now, give yourself extra time for that commute. we have a southerly wind showing that we have showers on the way, current temperatures are mid to upper 50s for the most part. notice nominal reegt night now. but we have that influence
again. the showers will start to develop. here we see the rain pockets moving to the northeast there, and heavier pockets along the coastal areas of south carolina and north carolina. future cast starting at 5:30 a.m., i want to pause this just a few times and you notice you start to see the clouds developing very quickly. by about 2:00 p.m., and the showers will follow about 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00 p.m. outdoor activities, do it now. attack advantage of the next couple hours. then we'll see the downpours heavier and stead yur ier by 8: 9:00 p.m. we'll have heavier downpours and isolated thunderstorms moving through. do i not expect an issue with wind, but i expect flooding to be an issue and concern by 8:30
