communities bouncing back after a rough winter. 5:30 and already 72 degrees outside. we have fog, steamy conditions. good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> andç i'm vai sikahema. you can see behind us, center city, pretty clear there. >> yes. >> clear in some places, foggy in some others. let's start with meteorologist bill henley who has the neighborhood weather forecast. >> clear of fog in the philadelphia area, the suburbs. it's new jersey, interior new jersey and at the shore you'll see some fog. lehigh valley clearing out, breaks in the clouds. you'll see more and more sunshine during the day today. look at the temperatures coming up, too. by 11:00, easton, 77 degrees. into the upper 80s for philadelphia. we're watching for some fog at the shore. that will disappear as the temperatures climb. 87 degrees in new jersey. and at the shore, into the upper 70s. you can see lingering fog this morning. that's from north wildwood, new jersey. 89 degrees in the lehigh valley. 89 degrees in philadelphia this
afternoon. and showers are going to hold off until the end of the week. we'll take a closer look as to where you can see the thick fog when i come back in ten minutes. right now, we go to katy zachry. we do not have foggy patches in center city philadelphia. this is a great shot of the schuylkill expressway right where it meets up with the vine street expressway. the vine was open last night and early this morning, no construction delaying things there. traffic as you can see, in and out of center city philadelphia, moving smoothly. that fog that bill mentioned, we're seeing it in some of our cameras. this is along the garden state parkway at route 47 in middle township. very light traffic on the road. i was seeing increased shore traffic from our cameras along the garden state parkway. the theme remains the same along the garden state parkway with the fog. no issues to report on those two
majors in new jersey. if you're on 95 in and around the wilmington area between 295 and 495, both north and southbound, your drive is ten minutes in both directions there. coming up in a bit, i'll tell you about a closure on 295 in delaware for drivers there. 5:33. we are following breaking news in philadelphia. police are now looking for a man after his teenage stepdaughter called them and said she was sexually assaulted. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live outside special victims unit in kensington. pamela, police say the girl's mother was salted as well. walk us through what happened. >> we're talking about two very disturbing crimes here, committed on that mother and her teenage daughter. before we tell you exactly what happened, do i want to let you know, we're telling this story in a way that will protect the identity of that young victim. at 12:30 this morning, police got a call about a sexual assault that took place at a home in frankford. when officers arrived, a teenage
girl told them she had been raped by a family member. that wasn't all. when police went inside of the girl's home, they saw the girl's mother laying in a pool of blood. she had severe trauma to her face and her head. police say she was unable to talk and was semiunconscious when she was rushed to einstein hospital. she was so badly injured that medics thought she may have been shot. doctors determined her injuries were from severe blunt force trauma to her head. she's in critical condition. the teen aegage victim was also taken to the hospital. the suspect, again, a relative of the victim was seen running naked from the house. police are searching for the male suspect. the special victims unit is investigating. an investigation we'll be following closely throughout the day. reporting live in çkensington, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. donald trump is slamming the suggestion of a possible conservative independent candidate for president.
conservative writer bill kristol tweeted over the weekend that a, quote, independent candidate with a strong team an a real chance could be coming. trump fired back at kristol calling him, quote, a dummy. speculation about who it may be has been all over the map. sources close to mitt romney tell nbc news it's unlikely he would run. others, condoleezza rice, as well as others. trump tweeted, quote, the republican party has to be smart and strong if it want tos win in november. can't allow lightweights to set up a spoiler inde candidate. the presidential candidates both made public appearances on memorial day. >> hillary clinton and her husband, bill clinton continued their tradition of marching in the parade in their hometown of chappaqua.
both california and new jersey hold their primaries next tuesday. meantime, animal rights protesters disrupted a bernie sanders rally in oakland, california. the demonstrators attempted to rush the stage as senator sanders was speaking. secret service agents covered sanders immediately. agents use a baton on at least one of the protesters. the demonstrators say they're upset over sanders support for animal agriculture. sanders held a community conversation in oakland. for that he walked in san francisco's memorial day parade. this weekend, the vermont senator told nbc 10 he's confident he will win new jersey's primary and said he may return to the state to campaign before then. would we see a potential sanders? clinton ticket? right now, read about what bernie is saying about the possibility of running for office with hillary clinton, on the nbc 10 app and on nbc10.com.
the villanova wildcats head to the white house to be honored for their championship win last month. president obama will meet the 2016 ncaa basketball champs. this will be villanova's second trip to the white house. they first won the title back in 1985 and nbc 10's keith jones, a villanova alum. also a manager on the basketball team for jay wright. he'll be at the white house with him to join and bring you live coverage of the event. he'll join the team there. you can also follow along on the nbc 10 app. the summer beach season has begun. flooding caused by winter storms and the blizzard of 2016 left some places under water and damaged. nbc 10's matt delucia continues our week-longshore tour. he's live in sea isle city where they worked hard to recover after those storms. matt? >> a lot of fun here at the shore but some serious notes, of course, underlie what's going on
in sea isle. here in downtown sea isle city flooding is expected from the coastline and the back bays. it's almost a way of life anytime you get a major storm like the blizzard we had a few months ago. sometimes the water, it can come up two, three feet off the ground. that causes a lot of damage, destroying some businesses. the folks here are about as resilient as they come. >> took the ropes off theç floating dock. >> we stopped by mike's seafood in sea isle city. they were boarding up, getting ready for the forecast of coastal flooding. >> then this happened. >> we had a lot of damage. our refrigeration and cooking equipment got damaged. >> mike has seen his share of storm damage from both hurricanes and wintertime nor'easters. >> we worked probably almost every day since january 29th getting everything together. >> reporter: other businesses weren't so lucky. rising floodwaters caused fires and some shore spots couldn't be

philadelphia, mt. holly. but at the shore, visibility is improving for wildwood. it's up to half a mile in millville and atlantic city. a little bit of a breeze and warmup will do away with any fog. 71 in philadelphia. sunshine, look at the warmup, 80s this afternoon. you'll see sunshine in the suburbs, just a few scattered clouds right now. the showers are long gone. by 2:00, 84 degrees today. the clouds are already breaking in the lehigh valley. 66 now. 76 degrees at 10:00. it's into the low 80s by lunch time today. to the south, south jersey, you'll find some spots of fog but as the numbers climb from the 60s into the 70s, any fog will disappear. the clouds they'll linger into the afternoon. there's a slight chance of a pop-up shower in new jersey, at the jersey shore there's a slight chance of a pop-up afternoon shower. once the fog is gone, it will be in the clear, sunshine, 70s. good deal warmer than yesterday for those clouds lingering with all the rain. as far as philadelphia and the
delaware are concerned, both will see skies break, sunshine and 82 degrees by noontime and 85 at 2:00 this afternoon. it looks like a nice sunny day for delaware. ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. 5:41 on this tuesday morning. last day of may, hard to believe, isn't it? >> i know. but let's get you to work and just ease ourselves back after the holiday weekend. katy zachry is watching the roads. you have a road closure in delaware. >> to vai's point, we're doing better as we approach the start of june than we were doing at the end of may. yesterday was a mixed bag of things. so far, things have been quiet. unfortunately for delaware drivers, on a busy route, on ramp from route 13 north to i-295 southbound is closed indefinitely. as soon as i have a date when that will re-open, i'll let you know. 5:41.

sticklerville, new jersey, it's my birthday. i'm having so much fun. >> amen to that. >> a few seconds on national television, along with hugs from "today" show hosts, proving that it pays to pay it forward. pays back in big dividends. good for her. 5:46. pennsylvania senator bob casey will visit the lehigh valley to push for funding to fight the zika virus. casey will tour aura shore technologies in bethlehem. the diagnostic company is developing a fast test for zika that doctors can give patients. casey is calling on congress to okay nearly $2 billion in emergency zika funding. a civil lawsuit in pennsylvania is raising a lot of questions about who can be held responsible for an accident when texting is involved. the suit stems from a deadly crash about an hour north of
pittsburgh. daniel galotten was killed in 2013 when his motorcycle was hit by a car driven by someone who was texting. the driver pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and illegally texting while driving. galotten's family filed a civil suit not only against the driver but two other men who were texting the driver at the time of the crash. >> this is about making his legacy to save lives. >> a pennsylvania judge has ruled the suit can proceed. in new jersey courts have ruled people who sent texts can be held responsible if the sender knew the person would be driving. today president barack obama will visit the federal emergency management agency or fema for an update on the 2016 atlantic hurricane outlook. hurricane season begins tomorrow. experts predict it will be a near normal season with somewhere between 10, maybe 16 named storms. president obama will learn about the upgrades and tools that will
contribute to more precise hurricane tracking. funding for fema will also be an issue. check out this cell phone video. it captures a funnel touching down near a wind farm in the town of peetz, about 150 miles from denver. look at that. the barn was destroyed but no one was hurt. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> a steady rain yesterday at the shore. those shore showers have pushed out to sea. but now we're seeing the effects of all that moisture as the temperatures cool down, fog has formed this morning. that's sea isle city which is seeing thick fog. that's not the only spots. parts of interior south jersey are seeing fog, too, with the temperatures in the 60s for mullica township and 66 degrees in ocean city. wasn't much of a warmup with the rain yesterday.
we'll get sunshine. that will do away with the fog. as the temperatures climb, the fog will disappear. sunshine will break through. there are some lingers clouds in south jersey and delaware. inland, it will be a nice, sunny day for allentown. the suburbs seeing sunshine and philadelphia will get plenty of sunshine, too for a quick warmup into the upper 80s this afternoon. 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. and high pressure is buildingç for the next several days until we get to the end of the week. free of any wet weather. but at the end of the week, into the weekend, things will be changing. 88 degrees this afternoon, partly sunny skies. cooler tomorrow. high of 83 with some sunshine. by thursday, we're in the 70s with partly sunny skies. a dry start on friday. late in the day on friday, clouds will be building. there's a chance of showers for friday and into saturday. we'll get breaks of sunshine on saturday, though, up to 79 degrees saturday afternoon. by sunday, clouds take over, 80 the high temperature. occasional showers on sunday and

poconos or to the poconos, you have a smooth drive ahead. 78 is free and clear any issues as is the pennsylvania extension. as is the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike. play ball! here's a live look right now at citizens bank park where dozens of women will take the field a little bit later today for the phillies baseball 101 clinic. here's video from last year's event. the ladies will get a chance to see what it's like to work for the phillies. they'll have a mock press conference, that's always fun and meet some of the phillies players. eagles owner jeff lurie says sam bradford is the right quarterback to lead the birds. on carson wentz, he said, we had to make the move to secure having a potential franchise quarterback for many, many years. having a lot of assets at the
