nbc 10 breaking news. that breaking news, an off-duty police officer opens fire putting a bullet through a window at temple university hospital. it started when the officer was hit by a driver who never stopped. new information about the car involved. also an uber driver hit and killed a woman early this morning. police are looking at surveillance video. and a live look this morning down the shore. this morning our shore tour continues in avalon with a preview of the upcoming restaurant week there. just after 6:00 a.m. good morning, this wednesday morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. matt delucia has the plum assignment this morning of giving us a tour down the shore. he it's going to be an absolutely gorgeous day. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with his neighborhood forecast. >> when we went on the air at 4:00, we saw fog forming. it's easing out of the picture right now. these are live pictures from

across the area. scattered clouds moving through the suburbs and for philadelphia, that's a live view looking across the delaware. this is the view from the mellon bank building. sunshine will break through the clouds, seeing more and more sunshine. 80 degrees, by 11:00 this morning. we'll be back in the middle to upper 80s this afternoon. 64 degrees in the suburbs. the fog is quickly disappearing in new jersey. 61 degrees right now. look at the sunshine in the lehigh valley. that's easton this morning, into the 80s by noontime. 80 degrees and climbing into the middle 80s this afternoon. in fact, the forecast is calling for a pretty nice spring day. 87 degrees for the lehigh valley. delaware, see something sunshine now, 85, a little bit of fog in the delaware area. already starting to ease out. at the çshore, seeing sunshine and 75 degrees. we did see some of the thickest fog in wilmington. just the last few minutes the visibility has improved to three miles and the fog has eased in millville and the shore, too, where the temperatures will be claiming into the 70s.

go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. let's find out if the fog or anything else is causing slowdowns on the roadways. looks like nobody is on the roadway. >> not a lot of people out there yet. at least at this point around 202 and route 29. no big problems or delays here. a seven-minute drive time from here to the schuylkill expressway. major fog we're seeing in some places. this is around the delaware memorial bridge near exit 1. really reduced visibility because of that. you can barely see the cars until they get right in front of the camera. you can't even see that vehicle anymore even though it's close to the camera lens here. either direction, no big problems or delays because of it. just definitely some fog. we're clear on the ben, the walt and the tacony palmyra with no scheduled openings right now. tracy? >> we're following breaking news this morning. police think they have located a car involved in a hit and run

late last night that ended with an off-duty officer hit by a car, firing his gun just outside temple university hospital. >> katy zachry is live in north philadelphia with new information on this investigation. tell us how this all happened? >> in just the last half hour we have confirmed with investigators that police found the suspect's vehicle at 6th and cambria streets, in the fairhill section of philadelphia. we have a crew heading to the scene to see if officers have detaned the driver. that driver is wanted because he or she is accused of hitting an off-duty police officer riding this motorcycle, which is still surrounded by police caution tape at the intersection of broad and tioga. after that crash, we're told the officer fired his weapon at the car which was driving away and one of the bullets shattered a window here at temple university hospital. fortunately no one inside the hospital was injured from the gunfire. the off-duty officer was taken

into the hospital soon after the crash and the gunfire to be checked out by doctors. though we're told he should be okay because he was able to walk and talk immediately after the crash. a witness says the off-duty officer was on his motorcycle along broad street when he was hit by a car, an older model green sedan at the intersection of tioga street. that witness says the impact threw the officer from the motorcycle. the car kept going and that's when the cop went for his gun. >> he grabbed the door, stop, stop, stop, stop, they wouldn't stop, they kept on going, came up on the curb a little bit and took off. that's when he started shooting. >> still a lot of questions surrounding this shooting, this police-involved shooting. internal affairs has taken over the case. they are specifically investigating why this off-duty officer chose to use his weapon, chose to use deadly force as a result of that car crash. reporting live in north philadelphia, katy zachry, nbc 10 news.

katy, thank you. new this morning, police are investigating a deadly crash in north philadelphia. they tell us an uber driver hit a woman after she stepped from between two parked cars into the middle of the street at 23rd and ridge. this happened just before 1:30 this morning. she died at the hospital. the woman did not have identification on her person, so police are still trying to figure out who she is. authorities say the driver stayedç at the scene. >> and a deadly discovery in chester county. someone found a woman's body tied to a cinder block in a pond in east coventry township. investigators are still trying to determine who the woman is and how she died. they believe she was killed and then dumped into the pond. they hope these photos of her jewelry, clothes and a tattoo on her left shoulder will help someone identify her. in bucks county, police are investigating a stabbing that left two people hurt there. skyforce 10 was over the scene on north 5th street around 10:00 last night.

that's right across the street from a fire station. both victims were taken to the hospital. we're working to find out their conditions. the cleanup is under way after an american legion post went up in flames in philadelphia. we got a new look at the charred remains. here's a look through the windows of the legion post in frankford. the majority of the roof is gone. crews pumped thousands of gallons of water from pavement and repaired electrical lines that ran next to the building. the memorial day fire destroyed keepsakes, uniforms and medals. several people inside the building for a memorial day event were not hurt. investigators are still look to the cause. the villanova celebration just keeps going. >> i saw this when it happened live yesterday. >> me, too. >> the latest person to congratulate the wildcats, president obama. >> the president greeted nova nation at the white house yesterday, recognizing the men's basketball teams ncaa championship win. last month, president obama

dancing through the area. they'll be out of here. lots of sunshine. it's going to be a beautiful warm spring day.ç muggy morning, though. you can feel the humidity is back in the area. that's led to some areas of fog. the few spots of fog are already starting to disappear. mostly sunny skies, a warm afternoon. as the temperatures go up, the humidity will come down. pretty pleasant this evening. partly cloudy to start with. there will be coastal clouds returning overnight tonight like we saw this morning. that easterly wind will be kicking in during the day today, keeping the temperatures cooler at the shore. inland, even though we're going to see that easterly wind today, we'll see the temperatures climb well into the 80s this afternoon. 68 now. south jersey at 61 degrees. the lehigh valley, 66 degrees. a couple spots in philadelphia are holding on to 70 degrees. society hill now just dropped to 67 and west mount airy and bustleton, northeast philadelphia airport is 68

degrees. here come the 80s with plenty of sunshine. maybe a few scattered clouds at times. even a chance of an isolated shower today. most areas are not going to see any of that. put your umbrella on hold and get your sunglasses. there you can see, philadelphia, a slight chance of isolated shower. i wouldn't bet on that this afternoon, however. temperatures in the suburbs will climb into the 80s. that's by 1:00 this afternoon. look at the lehigh valley. 70s to start with, 9:00, 82 degrees and climbing at lunch time. delaware, the fog disappears. 1:00 this afternoon, 82 degrees. that wind coming in off the bay, 79 degrees the high temperature. or at 5:00 in delaware. in new jersey, plenty of sunshine. the shore will be cooler with those easterly winds. ten-day outlook, warm today, sunshine tomorrow. here comes a chance of showers for friday, 76 degrees. saturday is looking good but sunday could see more showers and possibly some thunderstorms

6:15. we're following breaking news a live look at philadelphia's fair hill section where police say this is the car that someone was driving when they hit an off-duty police officer on a motorcycle last night. we're still working to get more information. around 11:30 last night, the crash happened. police tell us after the officer was hit, he started shooting at the car as it drove away and one of the bullets went through a window at an outpatient building at temple university hospital. no one was hit. the off-duty officer is okay. switching gears now, our week-longshore tour continues

today. satellite and radar, a few scattered clouds. there's an isolated chance -- slight chance of an isolated shower this afternoon. most areasç will stay complete dry today, however. look to the west, the clouds are moving in to the midwest. showers and some thunderstorms. this is our weathermaker for friday. it's got a long way to go before it gets to us. during the day on friday we could see showers and thunderstorms. i'll be moving this evening into the ohio valley and then come tomorrow morning, first thing, western pennsylvania could see some of the showers. it's during the day as the temperatures heat up tomorrow afternoon that those showers will really pop up for central pennsylvania. we'll still be nice and sunny for washington, philadelphia, new york, the entire area will see some sunshine but coming into -- going into friday, that's when you can expect to see some of the wet weather. not today. sunshine, 86 degrees this afternoon. mainly sunny today. tomorrow, sunshine and 82 degrees. then a bit cooler as the clouds

let's get your day started right with your neighborhood forecast with meteorologist bill henley. >> these are live cameras from across our area. we started with some areas of fog. the thickest fog was in delaware and wilmington. 65 degrees right now. the fog clearly disappearing with that sunshine. the temperatures will warm from the 60s into the 80s this afternoon. not quite as warm as yesterday. the humidity, that's a little high right now is going to be coming down. 87 degrees for philadelphia. at the shore, it's going to be in the 70s, inland 86 degrees. 75 degrees. the fog is already disappearing from north wildwood at the shore, the fog has been thick at times in cape may. in just the last few minutes we've seen improvement in this view from the marquis de lafayette hotel. it won't take long for sunshine to work its magic. the fog is gone, a nice warmup this afternoon. we'll go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. we are watching parts of the

new jersey turnpike showing some deep fog here around the delaware memorial bridge. no problems or delays because of that. you can see there's not a lot of traffic on the road here. everything is still moving along. for theç most part, reduced visibility on parts of 295. watch out for a disabled vehicle on harleysville pike and cressman road. the schuylkill expressway, ten-minute trip eastbound from 29 to the schuylkill with speeds into the 50s. more updates when i'm back in ten. vai? >> jessie, thank you. an update on breaking news. this is a live look at sixth and cambria in philadelphia's fair hill section. police confirmed they located this green car here that they say hit an off-duty police officer. you can seven see a bullet hole on this green car at the back. the officer started shooting at the car as it was driving away last night.

this crash happened on broad street while an officer was riding a motorcycle home. another bullet hit a window at temple university hospital. no one there was hurt. and this morning, doctors at a north jersey hospital are keeping a close watch on a baby born on tuesday. >> the baby's mother has zika virus. the baby was born with birth defects. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in our digital operations center this morning. what do we know about the mom and the baby? >> tracy, vai, that mother may have delivered the baby at a hospital in hackensack yb new jersey but she is from honduras, a country where outbreaks of zika virus and local transmission has been reported. what that means is that mosquitos in honduras have been infected with zika virus and are spreading it to people. that is exactly what doctors say happened to the 31-year-old woman who delivered a baby with the zika virus yesterday. doctors at hackensack university medical center in new jersey say an ultrasound confirmed the baby

had birth defects, including low birth weight and severe microcephaly, a condition where a baby's head is much smaller than expected. the baby was not doing well and that's why doctors made the decision to deliver the baby early. that child, the baby girl, was born more than a month prematurely. hospital officials say this baby may be the first in the tri-state area born with zika virus. here at home, the cdc says the zika virus has not been reported locally in mosquitos. nearly 600 people in the u.s. have the virus. each of those cases can be traced back to travel. the world health organization is advising people who recently traveled to zika-infected countries to wait eight weeks before trying to conceive. that goes for men and women because the virus is sexually transmitted. reporting live in the digital operations center, i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, pam.

young brothers arenfrancisc came down with zika during the offseason in his native venezuela. the pitcher says he was in bed for two weeks with severe body aches, joint pain, headaches and other symptoms. the man better known as k-rod has advice for any athlete traveling to reyore foot olympics. educate yourself and your family about the virus. police are looking for the killers who attack a 77-year-old man in his southwest philadelphia home. they believe the same people came off the victim more than once. the victim's son said his father was in a fight with neighborhood kids on friday. early monday morning, neighbors heard sounds of a struggle from his home, called 911. police went to the home and saw no signs is of a problem at the front entrance. they didn't go inside. his son went to check onç him, found his father dead in the living room. >> everyone expects their

parents to die eventually but not to die like this. it's hurtful. >> police say the victim's van and keys are missing and believed stolen. 6:36. 68 degrees outside. new this morning, a rough ride for passengers on a united airline flight trying to land at newark airport. >> these days everybody has a camera phone an a passenger took this video inside the plane yesterday. the plane bounced on the runway a couple times before the pilot gave up and took off again. the panels from the plane ceiling you see there fell on to the aisle during the rough landing attempt. no one was hurt. there were cheers, though when the plane successfully landed, as you can imagine, about 20 minutes later. less than two months ago until philadelphia hosts the democratic national convention. ed rendell has something to say to bernie sanders' supporters. >> he's calling on them to consider the big picture. nbc 10 has confirmed the sanders campaign is planning a rally across from the wells fargo center where there's an area specifically set up for

protesters. they plan it the night before the convention starts. rendell who chairs the convention host committee tells us he hopes those supporters will take the good of the party into account. >> it's my hope that sanders' people will tell their delegates and supporters to be positive, to rally for bernie, to make noise for bernie. but to otherwise do nothing that would help donald trump's electoral chances. >> meantime, rendell blames trump for the dnc's $9 million to $10 million short fall in funds needed to pay for the philly convention. rendell says corporations at odds with trump's stance on various issues are vowing not to contribute to the gop and are withholding funds from the democrats as well to keep it even. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> the sun is up and we're seeing some bright skies over avalon, new jersey this morning. it's a live view.

vehicle. watch out for that. on 95 in delaware, no big problems or delays so far. a north or southbound drive will take you at most ten minutes from 295 to 495. we have an update on breaking news. philadelphia police tell us the man involved in the hit and run with an off-duty police officer has turned himself in. here's a live look at the car that man was driving last night when police say he hit the off-duty police officer on a motorcycle and you can see a bullet hole just on top of the wheelwell there at the back of the driver's side of this car. that's because the officer started shooting at the car as it was driving away last night. this crash happened on broad street around 11:30 last night. the officer was riding a motorcycle home. here's the motorcycle. we just showed you a bullet in the car but another bullet hit a window at temple university hospital. no one there was hurt. 20 minutes before 7:00 right now. a camden county man feels like he's been scammed when he gets

here's meteorologist bill henley. >> we've been watching clouds over philadelphia. starting to thin out nicely now that the sun is up. the temperature would be coming up, too. we did see fog in north wildwood, new jersey. blue skies, shadows, you can see those. it will be a beautiful day at the shore and inland, too. though the humidity is high to start with, the temperatures will be climbing and the humidity dropping. 66 in the lehigh valley. some sunshine for the suburbs in delaware, south jersey, that's 65 and at the shore, that's 63 degrees. we'll warm into the 70s this afternoon. inland where it's cooler now, mullica township, may's landing both in the low 60s, that's where we'll see a return to the 80s today. the wind coming in off the ocean that brought in the moisture that led to the fog in south jersey and wilmington, that's where some of the thickest fog was to start with. sunshine will be bright pore philadelphia. 83 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon. there's a slight chance of a pop-up shower at some point

during the day today. i think it's very unlikely, so most of the area will stay dry but there's a chance. suburbs, sunshine, 72 degrees at 9:00. 83 at 1:00. that chance of a brief shower later on. in the lehigh valley, into the 80s by 1:00 this afternoon. for delaware, the toing is already disappearing. 80s at 1:00 this afternoon and in new jersey, into the 80s during the day today, if you're looking for cooler weather, of course you'll find it at the shore with plenty of sunshine. satellite and the radar, no sign of any shower activity for today. the showers become likely as we go into the end of the workweek. it's this system moving into the midwest through st. louis and toward chicago right now. that will be moving to the east over the next two days. for today we'll see sunshine. tomorrow, that's 5:00 in the morning. we'll see coastal clouds in our area once again. they'll be clearing out, we'll see sunshine tomorrow. tomorrow afternoon, look at that line of showers. it's in chicago right now. it's going to be in pennsylvania

good mortgage, katy. >> good morning, vai and tracy. this was a hit and run that happened just before midnight outside temple university hospital. the victim in this, an off-duty philadelphia police officer who was riding his motorcycle home. you can see the motorcycle is still here at the scene. after the driver of that car refused to stop after hitting the motorcycle, we're told the officer, again, off hduty fired his service weapon, his gun several times at the car. one of those bullets hit a hospital window. fortunately, no one inside the hospital or around the area was hurt as a result of this gunfire. in just the last little bit, philadelphia police say they found the hit and run vehicle in the fair hill section of philadelphia and the driver, we're told by officers at that scene, has turned himself in. police say they are certain this is the vehicle involved in this off-duty officer hit and run. as you saw from our live shot there, there was a bullet hole in the back of the car and

she died at the hospital. authorities say the driver did stay at the scene. an a baby with zika-related birth defects has been born for the first time in new jersey. the mother and child are at hackensack university medical center. the baby's mother contracted the zika virus in another country and is in the united states on a visit. and happening today, phil-abundance will hold a rally in dilworth park. today officials will talk about septa's program to collect donations so they can make sure children get the food they need. and today democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton will campaign at rutgers university. her husband, former president bill clinton will campaign on her behalf in union county later this afternoon. good morning, everyone, jessica boyington with one last check on your morning drive. we're watching through center city. expressway right around 24th
