with fog and we've also issued a first alert because of storms moving through our area. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with more on that. >> the storms later today could pose aç risk for heavy downpou in those rain-soaked areas from the weekend rain. talking the pennsylvania suburbs, the lehigh valley and the poconos. a first alert in effect through this evening. the threat of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall will pose a flash flood threat for later today. right now, though, the lehigh valley just dealing with clouds and some light fog in the area. that fog will clear as the temperatures climb. they will be climbing, even though we're getting a cloudy start in philadelphia. those low clouds will break for some sunshine. the temperatures will warm from the 70s into the 80s this afternoon. right now, 75 degrees at philadelphia international. not much cooler in park side, chestnut hill, bustleton and society hill at that same 75 degrees. a warm, steamy start. we're keeping the eye on the radar for storms later today. storms this morning are moving

through new jersey. heavy downpours in ocean county and another shower that's just really popped up in central burlington county with heavy rainfall. i'll go through the forecast hour by hour when i'm back in just a few minutes. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> thanks, bill. we are watching the admiral wilson boulevard. this is right around the vine street expressway. right here is the toll plaza for the ben franklin bridge. no problems heading into philadelphia right now. at least of course from the jersey side. we're not dealing with any of those delays. upper moreland, we're watching a vehicle fire, forest avenue and church street and for mass transit we're seeing at least 20-minute delays for the warminster line due to signal problems that were reported. other than that, mass transit doing great. amtrak, new jersey transit, d.a.r.t. and the patco speed line are running on time with no delays. i'll have updates when i come back. pam? >> new from overnight in montgomery county, we just learned at least one person is dead after a double shooting at an apartment complex. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in

ambler. matt, what can you tell us so far? >> well, pam, i just spoke with a woman that says she is the sister of a victim in this deadly shooting. she like the rest of us are trying to get more information from police. let me step out of the way. the scene is still taped off. investigators have been going in and around this apartment building throughout the night. this is on the 100 block of forest avenue. you see the tape there. the district attorney's office in montgomery county, they are out here as well. take a look at video within the last hour, we did see a car being towed away from the scene here on forest avenue. no word yet from police what that was all about. they are taking that to process that for evidence. we also saw a lot of investigators on the second floor of this apartment building. two people were shot around midnight. and, again, we have just learned from the sister of one of the

victims, she came up to us and said her sister was killed here in this apartment. she is 54 years old. she has no idea why this happened. take a listen to a little bit of my conversation with her a few moments ago. >> nobody deserves this. she didn't deserve this. >> she hadn't told you about anything suspicious that was going on? >> no. she went to work and came home, took care of her son. that's it. >> and you say you got a call at 2:00 in the morning? >> yes. that she was killed. >> she got that call around 2:00 in the morning. one of the neighbors here told us that she heard around fiveç gunshots just before midnight. again, as we take another live look here, investigators are still there at the door, also on that second floor there, police did have canine units out here looking through the woods and around this building. no word yet on any arrests.

we are still trying to gather more information as are the family members who are still waiting and standing around here at the scene. as soon as we get more information, live in ambler, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. two former temp university police officers are under arrest in the murder of a woman in a germantown section of philadelphia from friday. aaron wright and marquis robinson face murder and aggravated assault charges in the death of wright's girlfriend. wright resigned from the temple police force in 2002. robinson was fired saturday after charges were filed against him. new this morning, the red cross is helping three people left homeless by a fire in southwest philadelphia. nbc 10 was on the scene of allman street. the fire broke out around 2:00 this morning. crews arrived in minutes to put it out. no one was hurt. investigators will be looking for the cause of that fire. in gloucester county, investigators will be looking for the cause of a fire that

destroyed a lumberyard. hundreds of firefighters battled the flames in franklin township that wiped out a family-owned business. the lumber company is a total loss. you're looking at video of the fast-moving flames posted on social media that destroyed t e collucci lumberyard. 200 firefighters met challenges as they doused the flames. >> firefighters are hampered by the hot weather, low water pressure and we did have variable winds earlier. >> i already did my crying in the car. just got to say, hey, it happens. >> three firefighters were treated for heat-related illnesses. it's not known if the family will rebuild their business. now to the latest in the ongoing septa slow join. today, a new policy could impact your commute. riders will have to buy tickets

before boarding at any of the stations in philadelphia between 3:00 and 6:30 in the afternoon. septa said it made the move because of scheduling issues following the loss of more than 100 structurally deficient rail cars. also today, the naval hospital parking lot on broad street and south philadelphia will re-open for septa customers. you may remember it's been closed for more than a week now because of the activities surrounding the democratic national convention at the wells fargo center. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> clouds overhead this morning. a chance of more storms during the day today. this is a live view, looking across the delaware from the adventure aquarium. no sign of the sun just yet in philadelphia. that changes as the day goes on. we get breaks of sunshine and the temperatures will warm from the 70s into the 80s this afternoon. we wouldn't see the 90s. we will likely see more showers and thunderstorms. we've been tracking one area, some heavy downpours in central new jersey through burlington county and into ocean county this morning. heavy rainfall in both spots

this rain is moving off to the northeast at 20 miles an hour. it's going to blow past woodland. the heaviest rainfall should skirt just to the south of woodland this morning. and there's a potential for more storms during the day today. our futurecast hour by hour shows atç 10:00 this morning, some scattered showers in southern new castle county into kent county and stretching into cumberland county in new jersey. during the afternoon, it won't be an all-day rainfall. more storms develop at the shore and inland in through the lehigh valley and berks county and some of the suburbs as well. and those storms will be on the move, pushing into wilmington and philadelphia during the late afternoon hours, heavy downpours could make a mess of the evening commute. but especially so in the lehigh valley, in the suburbs and into the pocono mountains. this is the area that saw tremendous rainfall offer the weekend. it won't take a lot more rain already on rain-soaked grounds to create flash flooding threat

for later today. it will not be an all-day rainfall. scattered showers and thunderstorms possible in philadelphia as we go into the afternoon hours for the suburbs, mostly cloudy this morning, 80 degrees. at 1:00, storms taking shape at 1:00 and 5:00, watch out for the storms. in the lehigh valley, the threat greatest in the afternoon when temperatures climb to near 80 degrees. for delaware, starting 0 of with clouds, some breaks of sunshine, low 80s this afternoon. some showers and thunderstorms a possibility in between these hours for delaware, new jersey and the jersey shore. we'll see a steamy day with afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely. t 10 day on 10 to show you when the storms and humidity will take a break. 6:10 on your monday morning. maybe you're heading out the door wondering what things are looking like on the roads. >> if you're traveling on the boulevard, jessica boyington has an update. >> monday is one of our slower days of the week, especially during the summertime. this is the boulevard, around

wissahickon avenue. traffic moving along north. southbound no problems at all. out in lower providence, watch for an accident, palings road and audubon road. at least it's not closed in the area. that's why we're seeing everything moving along quickly in the green. watch for an accident and a vehicle. mass transit for the most part looks okay. we're dealing with 20-minute delays for the warminster line on septa due to signal problems that are being reported. other than that, everything running on time or close to schedule. katy in. donald trump is facing growing backlash about comments he made directed to a fallen soldier's family. >> how trump pushed back against the gold star parents over what they said at the dnc in philadelphia. plus, the price of smoking, a pack of cigarettes will cost you more today because of a new tax hike. we'll break it down, coming up.

welcome back. it's 6:15 on your monday. turning now to decision 2016. today republican donald trump will make his second campaign visit to pennsylvania since he accepted the nomination for president. trump will stump for votes at a high school in mechanicsburg which is just outside harrisburg. last week he held a rally in scranton. pennsylvania is a key battle ground state where analysts say trump could draw support from working-class voters. house speaker paul ryan is speaking out on the latest controversy surrounding donald trump. >> in a statement, he praised the sacrifice of the family of a muss lick-american soldier killed in iraq. yesterday trump defended himself against criticism he got at the dnc from the parents of fallen army captain humayun khan.

khizr khan said his son wouldn't even allowed to be an american if trump were president. khan added that trump sacrificed nothing and no one. those comments drew this response from trump. >> i think i've made a lot of sacrifices. i work very, very hard. i've created thousands and thousands of jobs.ç >> democratic nominee hillary clinton campaigning in ohio with running mate tim kaine called that response the same old trump but she acknowledged she has her own problems like winning the trust of voters. >> i know we've got problems and challenges. i'm not taking a position that we don't have work to do. in fact, i'm telling you what work we can do together. >> clinton wrapped up a three-day bus tour cross pennsylvania and ohio by telling the crowd in columbus that donald trump poses a serious threat to u.s. democracy. nbc 10 was on the road with

on lincoln drive, headed northbound between gypsy lane and rittenhouse street. more details as soon as we get them. now we're starting to see delays out in lower providence because of the earlier accident. paulings road and audubon road. we are starting to see delays and red showing up. the schuylkill expressway looks okay so far. we're not seeing anything major or out of the ordinary. right now we're still way into the green. 14 minutes eastbound from the blue route to the vine street expressway. i'll have updates on these accident scenes and more of your majors when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 18 minutes after 6:00. a cloudy start and a little bit of fog, too. you can see it in this view from the lehigh valley. we're watching for some spots of fog first thing this morning. it won't last all day. the threat of more showers and possibly some thunderstorms might want to keep an umbrella handy. there are more storms that will be developing during the day today and into this evening. storms are possible as well.

as far as the fog is concerned, half mile visibility in the pocono mountains, scattered fog, light fog in allentown, a two-mile visibility, in new jersey, toms river seeing heavy rainfall in the area. so that's limiting visibility there while fog has developed for atlantic city and millville where the visibility is near two miles in both locations. with temperatures climbing during the day, the fog will disappear. the steamy weather will stay with us. 75 in philadelphia. the suburbs not much cooler this morning. exton is 74. 71 in bedminster. a warm, steamy start. feel that humidity that's still with us. that will likely fuel more showers and thunderstorms. storms this morning, moving through ocean county, heavy rainfall, moving past toms river right now. and the possibility of more storms during the day. picking up the signature echo of hail this morning. it's a very strong thunderstorm, getting ready to move offshore. another area mf showers, just developing along i-95.

that's in northeastern maryland. this is how it's going to go today. showers popping up here and there. and a chance of some strong thunderstorms with plenty of moisture and temperatures that will be climbing into the 80s. is why we've issued a first alert for the rain soaked areas from the weekend, the suburbs, the lehigh valley and the poconos through this evening. the first alert is in place, expect thunderstorms with heavy rain bringing a flash flood threat to those areas, especially. steamy weather, well, everybody will feel that. afternoon temperatures in the 80s will feel like they're closer to 90 degrees today. some of that steaminess will last into tomorrow. the 10 day on 10 has us cooler tomorrow. still the possibility of showers. maybe even a morning thunderstorm. clearing skies later in the day and riding in with the clearing conditions will be drier air. the humidity will be coming down on wednesday. 83 and drier air for thursday, 86 degrees in the afternoon,

upper 80s on friday, another great day friday. by saturday, chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day. not an all-day rainfall but the threat will be around on saturday and gone on sunday. but the heat remains. upper 80s for sunday, monday and into the middle 80s for tuesday and wednesday. severe weather this weekend pushed back a nascar race in the poconos. we'll tell you what that means for the pennsylvania 400 at the tricky triangle and long pond. plus, storm ranger ten is getting ready to hit the road. we'll show you the latest tool in our first alert weather arsenal.

your neighborhood. bill? >> tremendous rainfall in parts of the area over the weekend, already rain soaked and with more storms and the way, a first alert issued for the pennsylvania suburbs, the lehigh valley and the poconos. through this evening, the possibility of thunderstorms with heavy rain will pose a flash flood threat for those areas. we're already seeing heavy downpours, thunderstorm activity, too. that's moving offshore. right now, harvey cedars just to the north is seeing that rainfall. another area of showers that's coming up i-95, just some light scattered showers in northeastern maryland. we'll see showers and thunderstorms popping up like this during the day. but we'll also get breaks of sunshine. sun is coming up right now. that's cape may, a live view from the marquis de lafayette hotel. during the day it's the temperatures coming up into the 80s this afternoon with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms for philadelphia, the suburbs, the lehigh valley, new jersey, the jersey shore and delaware as well. we'll go through it hour by hour with the futurecast when i'm back in a few minutes to show you when those storms are most

likely to pop up in your neighborhood. let's start with a look at traffic. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> thanks, bill. we're watching the schuylkill expressway this morning. these are our cameras around gulf mills. we do have a disabled truck. another vehicle, this might be a police officer on the scene trying to help this guy. over into the right-hand shoulder, not blocking any lanes right now. it is headed eastbound. towards center city. we don't need any help getting delays towards center city. westbound looks okay by the scene as well with no gaper delay there. there's a vehicle on fire tieing things up on lincoln drive headed northbound between gypsy lane and rittenhouse street and checking in with mass transit, specifically septa, we're seeing major delays, warminster line dealing with 20-minute delays. . a shooting at a montgomery county apartment complex leaves at least one person dead. >> nbc 10's matt delucia is live in ambler.

we know you just talked to the sis per of one of those victims. what more can you tell us? >> pam and katy, we have been trying to get more information from police throughout the morning. we're waiting for an official confirmation on how many people were killed in this shooting. what we can tell you, yes, a woman who claims to be the sister of one of the victims was telling me about 45 minutes ago that she got a call around 2:00 this morning from a relative saying that her sister had been murdered. she was 54 years old. i'll step out of the way real quick. i'll show you the scene. it is still taped off with crime scene tape. there are still officers stationed at the doorway there. we've seen investigators and detectives up on the second floor where this shooting happened late last night. we are on the 100 block of forest avenue here in ambler at this apartment complex. take a look at some video. this was shot within the last hour. you can see initially a car was towed away from the scene, again, we're still trying to find out exactly why that car

was towed away, how it was connected to the scene. investigators have taken that away to takeç a closer look at that. we saw the investigates at this apartment complex. the shooting happened just before midnight. we saw investigators going in and out of this building. also canine units here as well. take a listen to that woman, the sister of the victim. when i spoke with her, she gotta call and couldn't believe what she had heard. >> she didn't deserve this. it's not right. somebody heard something. they need to come forward. >> so pleading for help and any assistance in catching whoever did this. we have not heard any word of any arrests from police. that woman was even telling us she was trying to get more information from the investigators who are here at the montgomery county district attorney's office is here handling this investigation as well, along with ambler.

as soon as we get more information throughout the morning we'll pass that along, live in ambler, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. friends, family and fellow firefighters will pay respects to gabriel lee at deliverance evangelistic church. there's a wake today and tomorrow. he was a veteran of the philadelphia fire department. he died on the job. he was found in the basement of his fire station, ladder 12, in north philadelphia on july 23rd. a funeral service will be held at the same church tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. for more specific information about times, just head on over to the nbc 10 app and look for the story. 6:35. happening today, get ready to shell out more money for a pack of cigarettes if you buy them in pennsylvania. the tax goes up $1 per pack, bringing the total tax on cigarettes to $2.60. that's the largest single increase on smokers in pa since 1935. now, since the tax on cigarettes

in philadelphia is already more than the rest of the state, this tax increase tacks on an extra $4.60 for packs bought in the city. the jersey jam case goes to court. this week attorneys in the george washington bridge lane closing case will begin the process of finding 12 jurors. they'll start submitting questions to ask potential jurors to help gauge whether any perspective jurors might have biases. experts say it's important to have people who are well informed but who can put their personal opinions aside. two former allies of governor chris christie are accused of causing the traffic jam near the bridge to punish the mayor of a nearby city. the trial is set for september. in trenton today, new jersey lawmakers will announce their support for extending jobless benefits to casino workers who were striking. it's been exactly one month since union employees of the trump taj mahal in ac began picketing. state senate and assembly leaders say they will back a

bill that gives unemployment to striking workers 30 days after a walkout. the casino's bankruptcy cut those benefits. if you have a gun and children at home, you may have to change the way you store your gun. the philadelphia city council wants you to keep it unloaded and stored in a locked container. this is if you have kids under the age of 18 living at home with you. city council is trying to change the law. it cite s anti-gun violence organizations. from our delaware bureau, the first unitarian church of wilmington is replacing this black lives matter banner after the church tells us it happened on friday night. it's hoping that police will catch the vandal. the church tells us, the banners were put around the church to spark a conversation within the community.

the pennsylvania incident management team headed to ellicott, city, maryland to help with the deadly flooding. members are expected to be there for the next week. the pennsylvania 400 at pocono raceway will start this morning at 11:00. the race was postponed after a rainy weekend. this is video from the qualifying round on friday. martin truex jr. was the top driver friday, earning him the poll position for the third time this season. watch the race today on nbc sports network. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> a chance of more storms for the pocono raceway and the rest of the area during the day today. we're starting off with clouds. this is a live view, looking across the delaware from the adventure aquarium. clouds over the city, a chance of storms during the day. right now we're getting a warm start. 75 degrees. should be in the 60s this time

of year. the futurecast showing hour by hour forecast by 10:30 this morning. we could see more heavy downpours in the area in delaware and into south jersey. then as we go through the day, showers and thunderstorms start to come together for the lehigh valley and into the pocono mountains and even some of the suburbs. that's 3:00 this afternoon. you can see the showers and thunderstorms in lancaster county, berks county and moving into lehigh county. look at those storms taking shape and erupting at 4:30 this afternoon, heavy downpours are possible later today and into the evening hours. we're watching that area for the flash flooding threat later on. even philadelphia could see heavy downpours this afternoon. 70s right now, mostly cloudy this morning with breaks of sunshine. we'll warm into the 80s. those afternoon storms will be popping up in philadelphia, in the suburbs you'll see those afternoon thunderstorms and afternoon thunderstorms and evening thunderstorms possible in the lehigh valley. 80s today for new jersey, very

now. we do have an accident scene involving a truck but it is over into -- it might just be a disabled truck. not seeing reports of specifics yet. clearly you can see this aroundç gulph mills. traffic is moving by. you can see another police officer getting to the scene. we only have one police officer there. maybe these are the two vehicles involved in the accident. either way, you can see traffic still moving by the scene. we're not seeing any major lane restrictions because of that. also checking in with mass transit, we're seeing 20-minute delays for chestnut hill west train 1810 airport train 405 and 28 minutes on doylestown train 502. also watching an accident scene in lower providence on paulings road and audubon road. the next couple minutes we'll check in with new jersey. breaking news into nbc 10. here's a live look from

jackpot but there were two big winning powerball tickets sold in pennsylvania. check your tickets. the numbers are up on your screen right now. one ticket sold in pennsylvania is worth $2 million. the other one is worth $1 million. a jackpot winning ticket was sold in new hampshire. the lump sum is worth $330 million. this morning, we're waiting to see who that big winner is. we are just four days away from the start of the olympics in brazil. the opening ceremony is set for friday night. nbc 10 is the only place you'll see all of the action. with time ticking down to the start of the games in rio de janeiro, the athletes are checking in. athletes from the u.s. and several other countries arrived in rio yesterday. official sources at the airport said it marked the highest number of arrivals so far.

the fog disappears. the threat of showers and thunderstorms remain with us. keep an umbrella handy this evening. even storms are possible and could produce heavy downpours. the rain produced offer the weekend, coming back at us this morning. fog thickest in the pocono mountains where the visibility is at a quarter mile. not an issue for northeast philadelphia, trenton or philadelphia international. light fog for millville and atlantic city. we have seen showers and thunderstorms. they're still going in ocean county, very heavy rainfall has moved past forked river and tom's river this morning. some of the showers have more rain on the way. and the potential for more thunderstorms during the day. it's already falling on some rain soaked areas. see an isolated shower in denton and eastern maryland, heading towards kent county in delaware first thing this morning. this is the rainfall total map for the entire week, the last 48 hours.

tremendous rainfall anywhere from 2 to 5 inches. in fact, more than 5 inches. some portions of northern jersey. 2 inches to 3 inches in the suburbs. that's rain soaked ground and that is why we have issued a first alert for the suburbs, the lehigh valley and the pocono mountains. a flash flooding threat exists through this evening thanks to more thunderstorms bringing in heavy rainfall. that flash flood threat will be greatest later today as those storms are likely to take place. all day long we'll feel the humidity, steaminess is sticking with us. 80s this afternoon will feel like it's closer to 90 degrees today. but there is drier weather on the way. it just won't feel it today or tomorrow. afternoon showers and thunderstorms into this evening, 87 degrees. we'll get clouds and some breaks of sunshine. 83 tomorrow, a shower or possibly even a thunderstorm, first thing in theç morning. then drying out as the day goes on. in fact, much more comfortable come wednesday. the humidity will be coming down. it goes even lower on thursday.

6:57 on your monday. at least one person is dead after a shooting at an apartment complex in montgomery county. >> nbc 10's matt delucia is live in ambler this morning. matt, what have you learned since we last saw you? >> in the last five minutes, the montgomery county coroner arrived on the scene and the d.a.'s office has been here investigating throughout the morning. about an hour ago, i spoke with a woman who says she is the sister of one of the shooting victims, that her 54-year-old sister was murdered inside this apartment building on the 100 block of forest avenue. she says she has no idea what happened. that she never suspected there would be anything wrong. the shooting happened just before midnight. one neighbor told us she heard around five gunshots. we'll take another live look here. you see the coroner's van there.

the investigators are inside that building right now. police have not told us much information at all, only confirming two people have been shot. we are expecting an update later on this morning. as soon as we get that we'll bring that to you. live in ambler, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. good morning, everyone. i'm first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. we're checking in with the schuylkill expressway right now. we're really bypassing a big part of our morning rush. we don't seem to have big delays in or out of center city right now. this is the schuylkill around the vine street expressway. you can see all traffic is moving along. although we do have things starting to tie up, just a little bit on the schuylkill into center city. we'll check in with the drive times there, eastbound from the blue route to the vine, 18 minutes. that's about a five-minute increase in drive time. nothing too severe right now. no problems on 95 at all, which is very rare for this time. of course it's a monday in the middle of the summer. the blue route looking fine as an saturday being reported in

montgomery, horsham road and pheasant run. there are delays 42 at route 41. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> we have sunshine breaking through the clouds in cape may. that's a nice view from the marquis de lafayette hotel. meantime, just cloudy skies for wilmington, we're watching for more storms to develop during the day today. showers and thunderstorms would bring heavy rainfall. we've seen some of that this morning. heavy rainfall with thunderstorms moving across the shore. they're moving past harvey cedars right now. those storms will be moving offshore. that will not be the end of the showers and thunderstorms during the day today. we'll likely see more storms take shape this afternoon and on rain-soaked ground from the weekend's heavy storms, we could see flash flooding. that's why we've issued a first alert for parts of the area through this evening. >> later this week, you said lower temps, lower humidity? >> yes. >> holding you to it.
