legal turnaround. two days after monsignor william lynn walked out of prisons, he'll once again face a judge today. teens on the attack. police say teens attacked and beat an 11-year-old. and the centuries old sewer system up for sale. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm pamela osborne. we're in for another nice day. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley in the neighborhood forecast. good morning, bill. >> good morning, pa mela, lots f

sunshine, the glow on the building there it is coming up from the horizon at center city. temperatures at 11:00, well into the 80s and then 80s this afternoon. not getting any fog that we see lately. lehigh valley, in the clear. 80 degrees by lunchtime. 80s this afternoon, but the humidity stays low. 84 degrees at new jersey at the shore. near 80 degrees this afternoon. and plenty of sunshine, in fact, mostly sunny skies at the lehigh valley and delaware. we'll go through the forecast hour by hour, coming back in just a few minutes but let's get an update on the traffic situation. jessica boyington has the "first alert" traffic. >> we're watching an accident, a brand new one on the p.a. tu turnpi turnpike, headed eastbound at will lee road. there's nothing happening on 295, and southbound from the 42

freeway heading to the delaware memorial bridge, it's still a 22-minute trip but once you get to the delaware memorial bridge, watch for construction there. we have lane restrictions because of that. also on egg harbor township, an accident reported. today, monsignor william lynn once again goes before a judge. the hearing comes just two days after he left prison. nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. matt, tell us about what's going to happen. >> reporter: we're expecting a new trial date for monsignor william lynn, as you mentioned, he's out of prison. he's on bail but his legal troubles are not over yet. after lynn left prison in northern pennsylvania, there for 33 months, nearly three years. prosecutors have argued that lynn was responsible for transferring pedophile priests from one parish to another here in the philadelphia archdiocese.

but the conviction was overturned box of evidence in the trial that is irrelevant during appeals. monsignor lynn is living with family members right now. but his lawyers say he received hundreds of letters of support from parishioners while in prison. but district attorney seth williams announced he will be seeking a retrial and that is why we are here today. that date will likely be set for next year. if convicted again, lynn would have to only serve at most a couple months because he was granted parole that was started in october. live at the criminal justice center, matt delucia, "nbc10 news." new from overnight, police are investigating a shooting in the fairhill section. officers were patrolling when they heard gunshots and found the man lying in the voteroad. so far, no arrests. and the bill cosby sex assault case, his lawyer do not

want jurors to hear the phone call between cosby and his accuser. andrea constand's mother recorded the conversation in 2005. cosby's lawyer argued that pennsylvania law requires both parties to give consent for the recording during that phone call. cosby reportedly spoke about the encounter and allegedly agreed to pay for constand's grad school expenses. so far, there's no date set. and philadelphia police are looking for four teenagers who attacked an 11-year-old at gunpoint. >> investigators just released this picture as one of the teens wanted in connection with the july attack. at least one suspect pulled out a gun, forcing the victim to remove his clothes and then the teens punched the boy in his face and stomach. >> i'm living here, but i'm not -- i don't want my kids to

play here. >> i think it's bad first and foremost, because i'm trying to figure out how do a kid get ahold of a gun. especially a teenager. >> the victims say the attackers were between the ages of 14 and 15. they were wearing red and white clothing. if you can help police, they want to hear from you. a $20,000 reward is being offered in the case of a man killed by a stray bullet. friends and family gathered for 25-year-old ashley ray ford. he was cause in the cross fire of two men shooting at themselves, while driving down germantown avenue. his 3-year-old was not hit. alcohol and speed caused the driver of an suv to crash into a home in northeast philadelphia. skyforce 10 was over the seen on algon avenue.

services resumed at the regional rail line overnight following a deadly train accident. sky force was over the scene at lansdowne just after 10 after a septa train struck and killed a person walking along the tracks. this is behind the warehouse on baltimore avenue. today is the last day that investors can put in bids on two pieces of land in atlantic city. bader field water front property on route 30 are being sold in a sealed auction bid. the bids were originally due on july 14th, but the bid was extended because the auction wasn't advertised as by law. atlantic city tries to get its finances in order to avoid a takeover. last month, an auction raised $1.7 million for the city. the treasurer for the smyrna pto is facing felony charges.

police arrested kelly sullivan-mcgovern. she's charged with using a deb the card to make purchases. no montgomery county, cheltenham county commissioners took the first steps for the sewer system. the manager told that the pra pa department of environmental protection demanded that cheltenham make widespread upgrades to the century-old sewage system. the manager told us the possible sale of the sewer system is part of a larger discussion about how to manage the township's expensive infrastructure. >> announcer: now, your nbc10 "first alert" weather. >> a beautiful start to the day. the sun's coming up, scattered fair weather clouds visible from sea isle city, low 70s right on the beach. near 80 degrees this afternoon. cool, thanks to those easterly

winds coming onshore. that will keep temperatures in the 70s most of the day. inland, temperatures will be below normal. 60s. and pemberton is now 59 degrees. florence, 56. hopewell township, you're in the 50s this morning. a really comfortable start and a dry stay today. nothing to show you on the doppler radar not until we get to the weekend. sunshine, 73 degrees, and philadelphia, that's at 9:00, by 1:00 this afternoon, 81 degrees, bright sunshine, a few fair weather clouds for the suburbs and lehigh valley. humidity stays low through the day. 80 degrees at 5:00 this afternoon. delaware, sunshine and 73 degrees at 9:00, by early afternoon, right at 80 degrees and upper 70s for new jersey and at the shore. 70s through the day but plenty of sunshine. and low humidity that will continue for the next couple of days. but there are some changes ahead for the weekend. the seven-day forecast, at the

today, meteorologist bill henley shows us the technology that brings mobile radar to you at home. >> have you ever seen anything like this before? the answer is no. because this is the world's first mobile television doppler radar. up until now, radar guns have been locked in place, unable to adapt to rapidly changing weather. how did we manage to pull off this amazing feat. we started with a clean sheet. it's packed with the latest technology. our first innovation, solid-state radar which means it's ready to go with the flip of the switch. old radars use tubes that could take an hour to warm up. next is the radar control center installed in the back of storm ranger 10. this rack of computers tells the radar how fast it will storm and where it should search the skies for storms. it also processes the radar center and turns into data we

into the free nbc10 app. that's a cool system. i love the different ways we can use it. >> it's really high tech. it's more about the viewers to be safe. the more accurate we can be with the storms, the safer they can be with the storms. >> let's talk to bill henley. >> we won't have any storms for today, but closer to the weekend, we'll be watching for storms to develop in the area. today, we're starting with clear skies, looking across the delaware at the adventure aquarium. collegeville, now at 59 degrees. low 60s in warrington. ft. washington is 58 degrees this morning. a comfortable start but look at this, under a dome of high pressure that is keeping the nearest showers well to the south of virginia and storms farther to the south. but this is what i'm talking about for the weekend. this line of showers and thunderstorms from south dakota to minnesota and heading to the east and southeast. that's our weather maker for the weekend. and storms are likely in our

area. you can see the progress that line is making by tomorrow morning into michigan and in the chicago area. and then on saturday morning, those storms will be rolling through central pennsylvania. so we'll start the day likely dry on saturday. that's 5:00 saturday morning. we could see some scattered showers moving into the lehigh valley. berks county at that time. it's really in the afternoon hour, 10:30 in the morning watching the afternoon. the storms more likely could see heavy downpours in the area as that system moves through. and then it keeps on going which means it will clear out for the second half of the weekend. and we'll have nice weather before we get to the weekend, too. today and tomorrow beautiful. low humidity both day. plenty of sunshine. a little warmer tomorrow afternoon. then you'll feel the heat and humidity increase. then 80s are back. sunshine. bright sunshine. the humidity falling on saturday and much more comfortable on monday, 84 degrees, the high

temperature. that's where it bottoms out. the warming stre ing trent star tuesday. upper 80s. and then here comes real heat and humidity for thursday and friday. with that steaminess, storms are likely and into saturday, fortunately that will be out of the middle 90s by saturday afternoon. up to 89 degrees. we've got some warm weather on the way for this saturday and again next saturday. tracy, pamela. >> as bill said, clear skies this morning. hopefully, the roadways are clear as well as you head to work. >> we'll check, 6:18 is about where the traffic picks up. 95, what are you seeing, jessica? >> 95 doesn't have any big delays yet, actually, we're seeing good things here around cottman avenue. and northbound not dealing with much. southbound, if you're hitting the road to the vine street expressway, mob a minute or two increase right now of 15 minutes. and speeds dropping into the 50s

but still high. the transit lines, north line running with equipment problems. went-minute delays across the board but the rest of the mass transit is doing just fine. there's still a vehicle fire that we're watching for delays for on the p.a. turnpike, heading eastbound around exit 443, around willow road you can see that delay behind that scene. also an accident at horsham at westmoreland avenue and meetinghouse road. a baby owl that was on the mend in montgomery county heads back into the wild. we'll show you how the rescued bird reluctantly re-entered wildlife. and a bear has a neighborhood on edge.

the back porch of his home. you're looking at an aerial view of officers in warren county searching the area yesterday. the man called 911 said a black bear he sees every day lunged and scratched him on the arm when he went outside to feed his cat. he said the bear ran into the woods. the animal is thought to be between 300 and 400 pounds. recent bear sightings have neighbors on alert. >> we've seen a lot more recently, so, oh, man, a couple weeks ago, we saw one. they're a lot more common now. they're coming around and they're a lot more daring and bold, too. >> the man who said he was attacked by the bear was treated for minor injuries. a wild bird release didn't quite go as planned in montgomery county. >> there you see as workers tried to release a baby screech owl back into the wild he seems content to stay where he was.

relief on the rails. septa has approved a plan to help commuters. and the usa leads the team to the first win in the olympics. this is "nbc10 news." good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm pamela osborne. >> and i'm tracy davidson. just about 6:30. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with his "first alert" neighborhood forecast. it looks beautiful this morning, bill. >> yeah, we've seen about a half hour of sunshine. we're going to see lots more during the day. 67 degrees right now in philadelphia. it's cool in the suburbs, look at king of prussia you see the sun coming up this morning, 79 at lunchtime. a few fair weather clouds in new jersey. no sign of any fog we've seen lately in the lehigh valley. and delaware, sunshine will warm temperatures into the low 80s this afternoon. by 11:00 this morning, 77. and as the temperatures climb, the humidity will be dropping

just like we saw yesterday. 84 degrees in philadelphia. 84 for the lehigh valley and new jersey. while the suburbs in delaware warm into the low 80s at the shore. onshore flow keeping temperatures a little cooler. 79 degrees. beautiful weather ahead. i'll go through the forecast hour by hour when i'm back in a couple minutes. let's get a check and update by jessica boyington. >> thanks, bill, we're headed eastbound on the vehicle fire reported on 333 at willow grove. you can see, actually seeing some improvement here at least on the maps. it's getting a little slow past that scene. but definitely we're seeing severe slowdowns approaching it with those lane restrictions under way. watch for police activity there as they get that fire under control. out on the schuylkill expressway, around the conshohocken curve, you're seeing already into the yellow, 18 minutes from blue route to vine street expressway.

checking in with mass transit, 20 minutes away from the north town high speed line due to equipment problems. everything else running on time or close. today, monsignor william lynn will be back in court just days after leaving prison. nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. and, matt, takes through what's happening today. >> reporter: well, pamela, monsignor lynn is out on bail, $250,000. his legal issues are not over. here's the video from tuesday when monsignor lynn was released from prison in northeastern pennsylvania. he was there for 33 months. nearly three years. but the release came after the conviction was overturned. prosecutors argue that lynn was responsible for transferring one pedophile priest to another parish. the conviction was overturned because there was evidence deemed relevant to the appeal. the district attorney seth williams said he will retry the

case even though lynn has served out most of his sentence. >> i firmly believe that there will be sufficient evidence to prove that monsignor lynn knew that he was taking pedophile priests, moving them to other parishes and therefore endangering the welfare of thousands of children. >> reporter: the d.a. pushing for a retrial. and that is what's going to be happening here today. is that a date should be set for that new trial which could happen sometime in the next year. right now, monsignor lynn is living with relatives. his lawyer says while he is in prison that he received hundreds of letters from parishioners in support. we'll let you know what happens, for now, i'm live at the criminal justice center. matt delucia, "nbc10 news." the taj mahal trump casino in atlantic city will close its doors for good sometime after labor day. thousands of employees remain on strike. tropicana entertainment which

owns the taj mahal says it was losing millions of dollars a month and it also blamed the strike as reason pour for going of business. striking workers were striking for restoration of health benefit cut several years ago. riders frustrated by a septa slowdown should see improvement in a few weeks. the transit agency announced plans to get cars repaired and back into service yesterday. stuarting august 21st, septa will roll out ten cars each week until all of the trains are back on. the normal schedule is expected by october 1. >> this is transit late every day. my boss have been happy. that's awesome. >> septa said the entire fleet should be up and running by

re-election. a new poll shows hillary clinton is widening her lead over donald trump. a fox news poll yesterday has clinton leading trump 49% to 39% in a head to head matchup. when libertarian johnson is added to the race, trump leads by nine points. clinton attacked trump for making products outside of the country. it's something she discussed with a tie company in colorado. >> if he wants to make america great again, he should start by making things in america. and there's a lot he could learn by coming here. >> clinton attended a rally in the denver area where she attacked trump's temperament saying he could not be trusted with nuclear weapons. >> go, go, go! >> that is just part of the video of what happened inside a burning jet in dubai as passengers scrambled to escape. the emirates airliner crash landed at the airport yesterday.

bursting into flames. one firefighters on the ground died. all 250 passengers plus the crew on board escaped. an aviation expert told nbc news wind shear may have caused that accident. in more news from overseas, police in london say a man awent on a rampage with a knife killing one woman and injuring others. it happened in a square of the city. officers tasered a man and arrested a man but they haven't identified him yet. authorities think the man's mental health could be an issue. it's 6:36, hurricane earl is now over belize and southeastern mexico. the category 1 storm made landfall overnight with sustained winds of 80 miles an hour. heavy rain is flooding communities along the caribbean coast. the national weather service forecasts the storm will lose

numbers are a bit low. we usually warm into the upper 80s. look at this, starting out at 67 degrees. 70s at 10:00, low 80s at lunchtime. suburbs, nothing but sunshine and a few fair weather clouds. 61 degrees by 10:00. 73, upper 70s by lunchtime today. in the lehigh valley, you're seeing bright sunshine. and no sign of the fog that we've had the last few mornings. 80 degrees afternoon, and humidity stays low. new jersey, sunny skies, 78 degrees at noon time. and very low 80s this afternoon. just a little cooler at the shore. middle 70s. we'll stay in the 70s with easterly winds. the last couple of days a little bit stronger at the shore. inland, delaware, already seeing sunshine. 64 now, middle 70s and really comfortable at 10:00. and looks like a gorgeous afternoon. but there are changes ahead. and there are times for the weekend. i've got the weekend forecast and beyond with the 10 day on 10

that's the view from cape may from the marquis de lafayette hotel. a beautiful day at the shore. in fact, the entire area is in for very use weather. low 60s for lehigh valley. and delaware, 67 degrees with sunshine in philadelphia. 73 to start with. dry conditions. satellite and radar, completely clear of any wet weather. and barely a cloud in the sky. might see fair weather clouds but showers will stay to the south. and to the northwest. and this is what's going to change things this weekend. that's a cold front, moving from eastern south dakota storms, to minnesota, those storms extend into canada. that's a cold front that's going to be slowly moving our way and give us a possibility of showers and thunderstorms late friday night. and then during the day on saturday. then that will clear through, and then we'll see some sunshine for sunday. but those storms are on the move.

hour-by-hour forecast shows them moving into michigan in the chicago area. by first thing tomorrow morning. by saturday morning, that line of showers and potentially thunderstorms will make it into central pennsylvania. and by early saturday morning, we could see the first showers start to move into lehigh valley and some of the suburbs as well. but the best chance of showers and thunderstorms will come later in the morning and in the afternoon. futurecast showing the potential for some heavy downpours saturday afternoon. and then you see how it's clearing out. those storms will keep on going and will be clearing out and looks like we'll see plenty of sunshine for sunday. but you'll see the difference by saturday. the temperature will be climbing, too. the humidity, that's where it will increase as well. low 90s for philadelphia, suburbs, lehigh valley. south jersey, 92 degrees with the best chance of afternoon storms for south jersey. at the shore, upper 80s on saturday but clearing out for sunday.

back in court just two days after leaving prison. nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. matt, tell us about today's hearing, what's going to happen? >> reporter: well, the condition is overturned but the district attorney is pushing for a retrial. he left prison yesterday afternoon after nearly three years but prosecutors have argued that monsignor william lynn was responsible for transferring pedophile priests from one parish to another. almost immediately after lynn was released district attorney seth williams announced that he would be seeking that retrial and that date would likely be set for next year. we expect that date to be figured out today at the hearing. if lynn is convicted that thele retrial, he would only have to spend a couple more month ins prison according to his attorney, because lynn was already set to be on parole later on this year. i'll let you know what happens. today is the deadline for
