across our area will be impacted, thanks to new laws for selling alcohol. nbc 10 news starts now. >> just about exactly 5:00 a.m. good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm tracy davidson. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley with the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. you were seeing fog. there you go. >> it just thickene"ç up. it changes minute by minute, neighborhood by neighborhood. coatesville, quarter mile visibility. that's dense fog. no sign of the fog in quakertown. blue bell has light fog this morning. we've also seen thick fog at times in toms river and some improvement in mt. holly, most of south jersey and delaware we're not seeing that fog. it will only be a temporary situation .fog will disappear once the temperatures start to climb. at this hour, clear skies. a quick warmup, 73 degrees at
8:00. by 11:00 into the low 80s. and the suburbs, 63 degrees right now while it's 70 degrees in philadelphia. the fog will clear out. we'll see plenty of sunshine today with scattered clouds this afternoon. upper 80s for philadelphia, the suburbs, new jersey warming into the upper 80s inland, 81 degrees at the shore and a quick warmup will do away with any fog in the lehigh valley. delaware is fog-free this morning, 86 degrees, partly sunny skies this afternoon. all in all, a pretty nice summer day. there are changes ahead. showers and thunderstorms may be here this time tomorrow. we'll take a look at the futurecast within i come back in just a few minutes and walk you through it. first, jessica boyington has an update from the first alert traffic center. >> we're starting things off in mt. laurel, new jersey, route 73 around 295. you can see no problems or delays. no problems getting off the ramps. roads are dry. everything is moving along nicely. also, we're watching the 42 freeway, still in new jersey here as well. northbound from 55 headed up
toward the walt whitman bridge. maybe heading down the shore you'll have no problems there. for the most part, everything is running on time or close to schedule for mass transit as well. no problems for septa, patco, d.a.r.t., new jersey transit and amtrak line. >> it took just one day to select a jury for the perjury trial of pennsylvania attorney kathleen kane. nbc 10's matt delucia is live outside the montgomery county courthouse in norristown where that trial will start today. walk us through what's going to happen. >> vai, 12 jurors were selected, 6 men, 6 women, plus 4 alternates. take a look here at this video yesterday morning. kathleen kane entering the courthouse has a defendant. the pool of jurors faced questions it from both sides and the judge said the trial could last at least a week. kathleen kane is accused of leaking sensitive grand jury material to a newspaper and lying about it to a grand jury. she has a large legal team, including a new york city
lawyer. kane says she did nothing wrong and the case is the result of retaliation over a pornographic e-mail scandal. on that topic, though, the judge said the issue cannot be brought up as a defense. this morning, we will hear those opening arguments. kane is still the pennsylvania attorney general but her law license as of right now, it is suspended. we're live in norristown, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, matt. there will soon be more places to buy booze in pennsylvania. businesses that sell beer to go can now apply for licenses that will also allow them to sell takeout wine. the new law went into effect yesterday. >> this deal will make price is more competitive, the purchase of the products more convenient. >> businesses that apply for the new license could have shelves stocked with wine by the end of the month. you'll also see a change to sunday hours at state stores. they'll be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. a philadelphia street racing
group claim[ç one of its member died in a racing dispute. the philly street race team released video they say shows the moment the gunfire erupted. you can hear 20 shots fired as people scattered along essington avenue in southwest philly early saturday morning. several bullets struck and killed a well nif known racer who goes by the name mexican rob. no one else in the crowd was hurt. nine other shootings happened that same night. in a five-hour span from saturday into sunday, two people were shot to death, three others remain in the hospital. police are looking for a gunman who shot a barber in his shop in southwest philadelphia. this happened yesterday on south 60th street. a friend of the victim told nbc 10 that a dispute over a haircut triggered the shooting. the barber is recovering in the hospital. >> we have new information on a car crash in north philadelphia that killed a 3-year-old girl. police suspect street racing
caused the accident. nbc 10 was on the scene at 2nd and york last night, the intersection where a car struck this silver honda with i afamily inside. police say the girl was thrown from the car on impact. they say it is unclear if she was buckled into the child car seat that was found in the car. the child's mother who was driving wa not hurt. the grandmother had minor injuries. police are questioning the other car who did stop at the scene. a family was found dead inside their home on saturday. an apparent suicide note was found. police are still not saying who pulled the trigger, mark short's relatives say the couple had been going through domestic problems and megan short planned to leave her husband. >> mark was really trying to make it work. and he took them to disney world in february to try and bond the
family together. and evidently it didn't work because she still wanted to get out of the marriage. >> mark short's family is handling his funeral arrangements while megan short's family is taking care of her and the churn's arrangements. decision 2016, donald trump's running mate will campaign in pennsylvania today. >> mike pence is scheduled to hold a town hall in lancaster this afternoon. the indiana governor is trying to lock up conservative votes. political analysts see pence as a calming balance to trump's outgoing personality. in detroit yesterday, trump outlined his plan to boost jobs and make america more competitive. he proposed cutting the number of tax brackets from 7 to 3. he would lower the tax on businesses from 35% to 15% and he's offering a tax deduction on child care costs for
middle and lower-income families. >> the rich will pay their fair share but no one will pay so much that it destroys jobs or
undermines our ability as a nation to compete. >> trump blasted his democratic rival hillary clinton as a candidate of the past who supports bad trade deals. >> clinton is expected to reveal her economic plan in detroit on thursday. jobs was her focus while campaigning in st. petersburg, florida yesterday. she did not directly address donald trump's
remarks but did promise more support for small businesses while touring a craft brewery and again at a rally. >> you want to start a business, we're going to put a moratorium on your student loan payments so you can actually borrow the money to get the business started.ç >> clinton also urged people to get out and vote in the november election. and donald trump defeated jeb bush in his gop primary race. >> now his son is backing the republican nominee, a first for the bush family. that's the headline here. george p. bush is a land commissioner in texas. he told party activists saturday that it's time to rally around the nominee but he stopped short
of a formal endorsement. >> from team bush -- and you make sure we stop hillary clinton. >> jeb bush said in may he would not vote for donald trump. his father and grandfather, both former presidents are also withholding their support. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> eight minutes after 5:00. sunshine is going to be nice and bright. at this hour, the temperatures are still cooling down. there's some scattered showers at sea isle city. temperatures in the 60s, low 70s in philadelphia. at the shore, take a look at these readings. 66 degrees in cape may courthouse. 69 in summer's point. into the 70s right now for atlantic city and wholegate. these numbers climb into the 80s this afternoon. as far as wilmington is concerned, a nice live view from frawley stadium. you'll see sunshine there, too. cooler in wilmington this morning.
70 degrees but a bit warmer than yesterday at this time in marfelton. lewes is reporting 66 degrees right now. sunshine, bright, radar scene, quited to today. look to the south. showers and thunderstorm activity that will be firing up in virginia and in the carolinas. that will slowly move our way. we'll see it first thing tomorrow morning. see the activities of the south during the day today. there will be scattered clouds moving into the area this afternoon and into this evening. that's 11:30 tonight. might even see a few showers in southern delaware by late this evening. but tomorrow morning, first thing in the morning, that's 4:00 tomorrow morning. a chance of storms rolling through the shore and parts of delaware and that possibility will continue into the afternoon and even late morning hours. there's late morning as we go into the afternoon, even more likely we'll see scattered showers and thunderstorms. but that's tomorrow. for today, leave the umbrella at home. don't forget your sunglasses.
bright sunshine to start with in philadelphia, turning partly cloudy at noontime and mostly cloudy skies at 4:00 this afternoon. 85 degrees. the suburbs, look at the sunshine. all day long, 82 degrees at noontime. into the lower 80s this afternoon and you'll see sunshine to start with in the lehigh valley, fog will disappear quickly. 68 degrees, then into the 80s this afternoon. for delaware, sunshine and a few scattered clouds, low 80s by lunch time and continuing into the afternoon hours. new jersey, interior new jersey warms quickly into the 80s. 84 degrees at 4:00 with partly sunny skies. sunshine for the jersey shore, low 80s this afternoon. but steamier weather is right around the corner. maybe you'll notice it with the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen, one seven day for each part of our area. when i come back, i'll go beyond the seven day with the 10 day on 10. >> there are 90s there for sure. >> thank you, bill. 5:10 this tuesday morning.
time to get a check on traffic and 676, vine street expressway. >> first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has that. >> we're all clear with that construction right now. we are just on schedule, everything's looking great right now. there are cameras around the vine street expressway and 24th street. eastbound traffic moving this way towards ç95 and we just sa earlier had a police officer blocking off this ramp. no problems there. all traffic moving along just fine. westbound to the schuylkill expressway, looking great as well. no problems with drive times there. we're also watching some construction. this is kelly drive eastbound between hunting park avenue and 25th street. that will be there in an active scene until at least 6:30 this morning. watching 422. no big problems or delays right now. we're the same in both directions, east or westbound from 29 to the schuylkill, just an eight-minute trip. >> 11 minutes past 5:00 right now. a certain sight on olympic athletes has people wondering what are those? why local doctors are saying it

nbc 10's competition to watch is locally sponsored by the all new 2017 chrysler pacifica. it is 5:15. and good morning, camden county. a live picture from the patco station in collingswood. right now in collingswood, it is 67 degrees. a delaware teen accused in the deadly attack on a classmate will have to wait until friday to learn if she will be charged as an adult. yesterday, a judge heard arguments about whether the case should stay in family court or not. amy joyner francis was beaten in a bathroom in april. she was 1. she had a pre-existing heart condition and suffered sudden cardiac death. the suspect is charged with negligent homicide. two other girls are charged with conspiracy. it's 5:15. police in south jersey are
warning people about heroin causing a spike in overdoses in gloucester county. the heroin is stamed with the names red snowman and superstar. police in gibbstown, paulsboro and franklin township had to use narcan over the weekend. if you have this dangerous heroin, you can hand it over to police with no consequences. a rescue of a dolphin at the jersey shore is caught on video. look at this. >> here you go. she's coming this way. >> that's the rescue in cape may county on sunday. members of the marine mammal stranding center and firefighters spent ten hours freeing the dolphin from a creek in middle township. the rescuers waded through knee-deep mud to wrestle the seven-foot dolphin into i annette, drove the mammal to the delaware bay instead of the ocean. >> we assume we'd do better letting him go there than on the ocean side where there are tons
more people. >> neighbors said it's the first time in 30 years they remember a dolphin getting stranded in a creek there. the mammal may have been looking for food before getting trapped during low tide. delta will hand out refunds and travel vouchers today. >> this is a result of the delays and cancellations caused by yesterday's computer outage. delta canceled more than 700 flights and dlied more than 2,600 others after a computer failure at atlanta headquarters around this time yesterday morning. customers whose flights were canceled or delayed more than three hours could get a refund and $200 in travel vouchers. >> former illinois governor rod blagojevich will be resentenced in federal court this morning. he's served four years in prison but five of the original corruption charges against him were thrown out on appeal. he's serving a 14-year prison sentence for corruption convictions. a utah police officer is recovering after his lunch break meal was spiked with drugs at a

we haven't budged yesterday, westbound or eastbound from valley forge. ongoing construction work headed westbound between valley forge and downingtown. here's route 3, cherry hill, new jersey around haddonfield road. no problems in either direction. all lanes are dry. everybody is moving along. back in the next ten with more updates. for now, let's get a check on the forecast. now nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 20 minutes after 5:00. live view from easton. no sign of any fog there. it's looking good. just a few scattered clouds mainly in the clear. waiting for sunshine. there are still a few spots, seeing some fog. quarter-mile visibility, it's just improved, three-quarter-mile visibility in coatesville. light fog in hazleton. not an issue for quakertown or allentown. blue bell, light fog there, too. it's improving and continues to improve in toms river while mt. holly now has dvisibility under a mile. a little fog, a sign that the
humidity is higher. the humidity will drop during the day. any light fog will quickly disappear as that happens and the temperature climbs. the cooler spots, look at the 50s for lenhartsville and walnutport. nazareth is 63 degrees. white hall, 63 in lehigh valley. the suburbs, mainly in the 60s. some spots of fog, unionville is 64 degrees. exton at 65 and 60 degrees in north wales while perkasie is 62 degrees. look at milford township at 58 degrees. a pretty pleasant start this morning. the fog will get out of the way. these temperatures will climb from the 60s and 70s under bright sunny skies into the upper 80s for most locations this afternoon. what we won't see are the showers and thunderstorms. but that's a possibility tomorrow and along with those storms will come the return of humidity. the southerly wind will be kicking in tomorrow. this is the forecast win for tomorrow. the southwesterly winds will drag in the additional moisture
and likely bring us some storms for tomorrow. for today, the humidity drops as the temperatures climb into the upper 80s this aftwrnoon. 10 day on 10, i just updated it. it looks like we'll be near 80 degrees with a chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. that chance for the morning and into the afternoon and likely you'll see scattered showers into thursday. the temperatures climb into the 90s, then it really gets steamy later in the weekend, into the weekend, friday and saturday, especially. it will feel like it's more than 100 degrees with afternoon temperatures in the middle 90s. partly to mostly cloudy skies on a friday. showers and thunderstorms are a possibility on saturday. and again on sunday, though, not as hot on sunday. it is monday. we'll have to wait to get back to normal with temperatures in the 80s for monday and tuesday. and staying warm for most of the week with the chance of more storms coming in on wednesday. tracy, vai? >> all right, thank you, bill. nbc 10 needs your help spreading the word about free money to those making a difference in their community. we're giving awayen grats to

♪ 5:26. new developments in the sexual harassment lawsuit against a former head of a major cable news network. landon dowdy is here with details in this morning's cnbc business news. good morning, landon. >> attorneys for former fox news chairman roger ales trying to keep the sexual harassment case brought against him in new jersey. it was filed last month by gretchen carlson, it accuses ales of asking her for sex and terminated her contract after she refused his advances. he denies the allegations. futures are higher this morning as the stock market comes off of a slightly down day. meanwhile, crude oil jumped by nearly 3% to close at just over 43 bucks a barrel.
