we will all have a more beautiful world. ♪ today. the heat wave turns deadly and we're facing more heat today. here is a live look where the mercury and humidity going back into the uncomfortable zone. we had so more storms last night. and in rio, an emotional finale to the history-making career of michael phelps. hear what he had to say. nbc 10 news starts now. good morning, everyone. welcome to nbc 10 today. i'm ted greenberg. thank you for being with us. it is 5:30, and we are in for more dangerous heat today.
the heat has turned deadly. it is being blamed for at least two deaths in philadelphia this weekend. take a look at these ominous clouds at music fest in bethlehem. forcing concert goers to evacuated. we could see more later today as we ahead into day five of this heat wave. let's get to meteorologist krystal klei for a look at our first alert neighborhood weather. >> that's exactly right. still under the first alert for dangerous heat. we're looking at the exact areas from yesterday. philadelphia through some of the pennsylvania suburbs, new jersey and delaware, all talking the serious, dangerous heat. that continues through today. the heat wave continues into early next week, but your first alert, that's from effect for the high heat and the high humidity, making it feel like 100 to 110 degrees. that comes to a halt starting
tomorrow. still 90s, but won't feel like the 100 to 110 zone. first alert to wrap up your weekend. this is right now, looking at your temperatures. 84 in philadelphia. if you were out last night, it was hot even past sun set. 79 in the suburbs. 73, the lehigh valley. 82 in delaware. we do see now, mostly clear sky conditions. if we flip the board over to the forecast highs today, mid upper 90s across the map, similar to what we saw yesterday. 95 lehigh valley, 97 in new jersey. these temperatures could be accompanied by spot showers and thunderstorms again. we'll talk about where, and take a look at when the humidity might start to drop, more on temperatures coming up. >> crystal, thank you. this current heat wave has led to the death of two women in
philadelphia. nbc 10 monique braxton is live in center city to tell us more. monique. >> reporter: hi, ted. yeah, the steamy weather conditions and the philadelphia health department has told us the two women who passed away are ages 67 and 82. both had other heat related issues, and the steamy weather conditions for this morning. now, taking a look at the video now, the steamy weather has claimed two lives, pca tells us yesterday that there were as of right now, two people related to this heat wave. but in all this year, six people have passed away. we did stop by pca, where social workers were answering calls and sharing tips with hopes of preventing further fatalities. >> the nighttime temperatures aren't going down, so you're in the heated environment, especially if you're isolated,

his chest of medal. the u.s. took the number one spot last night in the men's 4x100 relay. despite pleas from his teammate, phelps swam what he said will be his last one. >> a good way to end, you know. good race. victory. probably top three i've ever swam in a relay, so i couldn't be happier. this is exactly what i wanted to do to end my career. >> he came away with his 23rd gold medal, and 28 overall. he won five golds and silver from rio, the most decorated olympian of all-time. the men's swimming victory came after the women's relay gave the u.s. its 1,000th gold medal. it wasn't all happiness.
burlington county gardener finished seventh in the one hundred-meter dash. she blamed crowd noise for not hearing the gun. when it comes to the women's eight, the rogue team which trains in princeton, took home gold yesterday. plenty to look forward to today. men's basketball against france and the women against china. the final round of golf, tennis, and on the track, all eyes on the sprinters. american justin gatlin will be challenging usuain bolt, you can live stream all of the olympic events. a driver is injured after this car crashed into the front steps of a temple university frat house. nbc 10, north philadelphia, the crash at the alpha pae house, it
lost a wheel just before the accident. investigators believe the car was involved in an earlier hit and run somewhere else in the city. we're working to find out more on that, plus the condition of the driver. this morning, a 6-year-old philadelphia boy is talking after he was shot ten times. yesterday, we spoke with the aunt of his aunt. doctors took him off a ventilator and he sat up and started talking. he was shot after getting out of a car with his godfather thursday night in germantown. the two were caught in the crossfire of a turf battle. also in philadelphia, firefighters were busy yesterday, battling this blaze at a daycare center in west mount erie. nbc 10 was on the scene. the daycare is a former church. investigators are looking for the cause of that fire. you know, i put down failing
morning. we a we're going to stay around there around 8:00 a.m. by lunch hour, 93. we should see it cap around 97, the high in philadelphia. look at the red. feel like temperatures up to 108 for philadelphia, and if we move through south jersey, same situation. 80s quickly moving into the upper 80s at 10:00 a.m., then the 90s, capping in the mid 90s in the afternoon. should see mix of clouds and sunshine, not expecting storms. feel like temperatures close to 105 by the afternoon. 85, 10:00 a.m., we move along to the low to mid 90s, with feel like temperatures in the low 100s. could see an isolated shower pop up. we're not looking at much activity. similar to yesterday. the best shot going to be a little further north parts of lehigh and northampton county.

saw saturday, which does mean we're looking at temperatures in the afternoon, very similar as well. 90s with heat index up to the triple digits all over the region. we're at 84 in philadelphia, lehigh valley at 73, 79 right now in some of the suburbs, 82 in south jersey. we take a closer look into philadelphia, some of the neighborhood temperatures right now, you're at 84 for graduate hospital and at the airports, mid 80s, germantown, 81, and then buzzleton, humidity still bumped up, and it feels a lot hotter than it truly is, and that continueses that we move throughout the day. radar and satellite, nothing to track out there for now. we've got just like yesterday, a morning with maybe spot clouds, but otherwise, plenty of
sunshine for us. today, mix of clouds and suns, if it weren't for the humidity and heat, this would be a beautiful day. don't spend too much time outdoors. take a look. 90s started on wednesday, 93 degrees. that's just been continuing since then. this will be day five of the heat wave. yesterday, hitting a high of 98. today, 97, the forecast. feel like temperature up to 108 in philadelphia, and then still in the 90s, your monday, tur tuesday. we couldn't fit wednesday, we couldn't fit it on the board here. that's how long of a stretch we're looking at. an eight-day heat wave stretch. let's look at the possibility of some thunderstorms that pop up, fired off by the heat later today. not likely for new jersey into delaware, can't rule out a stray shower, but for most, we'll stay dry. same area as yesterday, lehigh
valley, we could see showers pop up. as for your forecast today to finish off the weekend, 97 in philadelphia, we just said, mix of clouds and sun out there. for the suburbs, mid 90s, there we could see a shower or thunderstorm pop up and then into the jersey shore, just a little cooler at 93 degrees. some parts of the shore, though, could see temperatures higher. in fact, the airport in atlantic city, a record hit yesterday. ten-day on 10. wednesd wednesday, thursday, it continues into next week as well. crystal, despite the heat, dozens of people enjoyed a concert in west philadelphia. nbc 10 was at the 60th street health and wellness summer jam yesterday afternoon. in addition to the enter takenment, there were community resource tables, a zumba class
