and now we have new details on another swimmer involved in the case. human trafficking arrest. two women are rescued from a philadelphia apartment and police say they were being held as slaves. trump's regrets following a campaign staff change this week. donald trump now says he regrets some of the things he's said on the campaign trail. nbc 10 news starts now. good morning and welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm pamela osborne. >> i'm tracy davidson. it's 5:00 a.m. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley with the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. cooler this morning for sure, bill. >> yes, it feels good, after the showers that came through last night, they are completely out of the picture right now. dry in philadelphia in the suburbs and in the lower 70s to start with. new jersey at 73. you'll get sunshine there with just a few clouds this afternoon. scattered clouds in the lehigh valley will be thinning out. look, the temperature just dropped. now 68 degrees in the lehigh valley. and a nice start, too, in delaware. it's going to be a warm summer
day. like yesterday, we will see temperatures get close to the 90 degree mark. upper 80s for the lehigh valley and delaware. for philadelphia, and the suburbs, partly sunny skies and you'll see sunshine and a few clouds this afternoon. and interior sections of new jersey could see an isolated shower this afternoon with some of those clouds. most the day and most of new jersey will be dry and dry at the shore, too. mostly sunny skies, 84 degrees. all for a pretty good-looking friday. a peek at the weekend forecast when i'm back in just a few ç minutes. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. jessie? >> we are starting off in delaware this morning. a heads up if you head out in new castle county, glasgow, there is a tractor-trailer-involved crash, closing part of pulaski highway and south college avenue, right around this area as you can see on our map system, not seeing major delays around the scene. there's not a lot of traffic on the roads. it's early, considering it's
only in the 5:00 hour. your alternate, wrangle hill road, pretty much runs next to the scene. watching slowdowns on the boulevard around fox street and on the northbound side. earlier, we had construction over into the shoulder. there's an accident involved as well. over in the construction zone, an accident there and heading northbound. traffic still allowed to get through. it's blocking the right-hand shoulder and right-hand lane. more details open this and when this all opens back up when i'm back in the next ten. new to that breaking news in new castle county that jessica mentioned. here's a live look at the scene? glasgow where several people were hurt in this crash involving a tractor-trailer on pulaski highway. police have closed the northbound side of pulaski highway at south college avenue while they continue their investigation. it's 5:02. 74 degrees outside. happening right now in rio, a fourth american swimmer has just finished being questioned by officials in brazil. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in
the digital operations center this morning with an update on jimmy feigen. matt, what do we know? >> jimmy feigen is still in brazil. what we are now learning is that he will be able to leave the country once he makes a $10,000 charitable donation. this is video of feigen leaving a courthouse in rio de janeiro earlier this morning. this is after hours of questioning. his lawyer is expecting that feigen will be able to leave the country today. "tp'd jack conger, they got the passports back and left rio last night after a five-hour interview with brazilian police. all this is about an incident at a gas station early sunday morning, bentz, conger, feigen and ryan lochte have all been accused of lying to officials about what happened. surveillance video from the gas station gives a glimpse of what really transpired. police say the swimmers damaged a bathroom and were held by guards until they made a monetary payment.
a lawyer representing bentz and conger said his clients didn't do anything and didn't say anything to anyone. they didn't speak with any journalists or lie to any journalists. they were quiet and didn't know what was happening. ryan lochte came back to the states on monday. his attorney is reacting to the rio police claim and said, quote, we stand behind our statement saying the swimmers were absolutely robbed at gunpoint by people posing as police with badges an a gun. now, the u.s. olympic committee are weighing in calling the athletes' behavior unacceptable. they released a statement that reads in part, we apologize to our hosts in rio and the people of brazil for this distracting ordeal in the midst of what should rightly be a celebration of excellence. the olympic committee says it will review the matter and possible punishments for the swimmers once the games are over. live in the digital operations center, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. two women were saved from a roxborough apartment after police say they were being held as slaves and forced to work as
prostitutes. bruce steele is face 34 felony counts including human trafficking. police say steele would prey on drug addicts, hold them captive inside his henry avenue apartment and force them to have sex with men in montgomery county hotels. neighbors were shocked to hear this butç experts say this cou be more common than you think. >> many people are surprised that trafficking is happening or that we even have a program to address trafficking because they think it's not a problem that's here in the united states, let alone a problem in their backyard. >> it's pretty crazy. i had no idea. and to know he lived there for two years. that's just nuts. steele is being held on $1 million bail. he'll be in court next week. detectives say they've identified at least seven victims but they believe there could be more out there. as you're enjoying the last few weekends of the summer, be aware that police on the tri-state area are on the
lookout for drunk drivers. between now and labor day, police departments in pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware are participating in the get sober or get pulled over campaign. expect to see extra patrols on 6:00 p.m. on friday and 6:00 p.m. on monday as well, now through the holiday weekend. this morning, the city of philadelphia will address the growing problem of fentanyl abuse. they say there's been a sharp increase in fatal overdoses. it's frequently used illegally to cut heroin, making it stronger and more dangerous. a child porn bust in new jersey led to the arrest of 40 men. authorities say the sweep resulted in at least one arrest in every county in the state. suspects were as young as 20, as old as 72. the suspects include a former teacher who taught in delran burlington county as well as philadelphia and bristol township, bucks county. over the past week, the office of the pennsylvania attorney general has gone from kathleen kane to bruce castor and it could soon be going to
bruce beamer. yesterday, governor tom wolf nominated beamer to take over the seat. beamer, the current inspector general served as kane's first deputy. the senate must confirm his nomination within 20 days. no word on when theç vote will happen. even if beamer is approved he won't be in office long. a new attorney general will be electioned in november. democrat josh shapiro is running against republican john rafferty. 5:07. 74 degrees outside. now to decision 2016. republican presidential nominee donald trump and his running mate, indiana governor mike pence will visit baton rouge today. jeh johnson toured the region yesterday and pledged federal aid. he said he's briefing president obama on the situation, though some have criticized the president for staying on vacation rather than traveling to louisiana. but the state's governor says he's received quick responses to each request that he has made to the administration.
last night, trump expressed regret for some of the words he's used during his campaign. >> sometimes in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don't choose the right words. or you say the wrong thing. i have done that. and believe it or not, i regret it. >> trump made the statement during a rally in charlotte. he didn't specify which remarks he regrets. the clinton camp reacted, saying, quote, that apology is a well written phrase until he tells us which his many offensive and bullying divisive comments he regrets. end quote. hillary clinton and donald trump will be hosted to are a prime time forum next month in new york. watch it live on september 7th here on nbc 10. now your nbc 10 first alert
weather. >> just about nine minutes after 5:00. we will see sunshine today. this morning, we are drying out after some showers and some thunderstorms overnight. cape may is dry right now. clouds are alreadyç breaking. the showers are completely offshore. an isolated shower this afternoon possible in interior sections of new jersey. inland areas of atlantic county into burlington county and gloucester and camden counties might see that this afternoon. it will be mostly dry during the day today. expect plenty of sunshine for trenton, philadelphia and wilmington. the lehigh valley, the suburbs are all going to be nice and dry this afternoon. it will be a warm one. we're starting off in the 60s and 70s. by 8:00, 76 degrees. middle 80s at lunch time and into the upper 80s for philadelphia. philadelphia and the suburbs will see the humidity coming down as the temperatures go up this afternoon. you'll see plenty of sunshine in the lehigh valley. at 4:00 this afternoon, 86 agrees. delaware, sunny skies and 84 degrees at lunch time. by 4:00 in the afternoon, 87
degrees. falling short of the 90 degree mark. interior new jersey as i mentioned, a slight chance of shower. most areas will stay dry with partly to mostly sunny skies. warm, too. middle 80s at lunch time and into the middle 80s at 4:00, too. in between these hours we'll see the temperatures pop into the upper 80s. while at the shore, partly so mostly sunny skies, 82 degrees later this afternoon. in fact, we'll be in the low 80s by lunch time at the shore. the weekend gets warmer. 90 degrees for philadelphia and the suburbs, the lehigh valley, saturday looks like it will be the nicer of the two days. as clouds will be building sunday and sunday afternoon and into sunday evening as strong cold front will come through. that's going to give us a pretty good chance at seeing showers and thunderstorms for philadelphia, suburbs and lehigh valley. even into delaware and south jersey. the shore will likely stay dry for both days. look how much cooler it will be this weekend. temperatures around 80 degrees at the shore. look ahead with the 10 day on 10
when i come back in a few minutes. all right, thank you,ç bil. 5:10 on your friday morning. time to take a look at the roads. >> we continue to follow that serious accident involving a tractor-trailer. jessica boyington has an update on that. >> we'll show you what it looks like on the scene right now, pamela and tracy. a tractor-trailer that was involved right over here in this direction and we do have traffic actually moving through the area right now. we are still getting word that the intersection of pulaski highway and south college avenue is closed. you can see that police activity on the scene. a lot of debris on the roadway as well. it looks like that was traffic being diverted around. police vehicles stationed at different parts of the intersection. there will be cleanup under way. this might be there for quite some time. plus an accident investigation. we'll be here to keep you updated as soon as it becomes open now. pulaski highway and south college avenue, for now, is still blocked. your alternates, there's not a

her mother says her daughter had been in an on again/off again relationship. >> she helped out the family wherever she can. she helped anybody she could. i found out that he was abusive to her and i didn't know that, because she didn't tell me that. >> yesterday a wilmington s.w.a.t. team surrounded a home on locust street near where the body was found. so far, we have no word on any charges filed. if you live in new jersey you'll have to remember to register to vote. governor chris christie vetoed a bill that would have automatically registered you when you applied for or renewed your license. christie mocked the bill, calling it voter fraud enhancement and permission act.ç a bucks county woman faces charge for allegedly drugging horses to rig races at parks
casino. mari marian vega worked as a groom there. two thieves got locked inside a store by a quick-thinking manager. the two men burst into the store in patterson on wednesday afternoon and held up the manager. he was able to get everyone out of the store and locked the bad guys inside. the robbers yelled and even asked the crowd who gathered outside the store to help get them out. the store manager called 911 record times. police were not sent right away because they thought it was a shoplifting case. >> i called five times. robbery inside. they have a gun. >> by the time officers showed up within the robbers had escaped. police are still looking for them and they're using this incident to help retrain 911 operators. 5:17 right now.
next saturday, the eagles head to indianapolis for game three of the preseason and the team is feeling good about shutting out the steelers last night. the defense was on fire with four interceptions, two resulting in touchdowns. coach doug pederson even though the defense is outshining the offense, quarterback sam bradford found his rhythm. bradford on the other hand not so happy with how his offense played. >> put a nice drive together to score the three points right before the half. i was pleased with how the offense was able to move the ball there in the second quarter. >> i think we were pretty vanilla tonight. i think they were pretty vanilla on defense, too, when we were in there. we didn't do a whole lot.ç >> it won't be long before these two teams see each other again. the eagles play the steelers in week three. there was an injury before the game last night. during warmups, caleb sturges suffered a concussion. he wasn't wearing a helmet.
he was hit in the head with a pun. he'll have to clear the nfl's concussion protocol before he can return to play. the eagles will be back on the road next week in indianapolis to take on the colts. august 27th, 7:00. watch the game right here on nbc 10, your official station for the philadelphia eagles. it is 5:19. nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington joining us live and she's watching an accident somewhere in delaware. tell us where it's at. >> delaware if you're out the door in new castle county, we have an accident scene, a serious accident involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle that's closing down a portion of pulaski highway and south college avenue. as you can see right here, police activity on the scene and we scan around the intersection, they are diverting traffic, not a lot of traffic around the scene right now. it's early for that. every once in a while you see cars move by the scene. there is debris in the road. several police officers stationed at different portions of this intersection. you can see the debris in here with the cones in place,
accident investigation will be under way and cleanup of the accident scene as well. this may be here well into your morning rush hour. if so, you need an alternate. we go to our map system to take a look at how that will affect your morning. again, that was pulaski highway and south college avenue. wrangle hill road, route 72, will be a good alternate for you. more updates on this when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 20 minutes after 5:00. the showers have ended. we're still seeing a few scattered clouds in the area, for example, easton, pennsylvania, the lehigh valley, just scattered clouds. no rainfall here. you willç see the sunshine, th clouds are already starting to thin out. at the shore, showers overnight. looking dry in north wildwood new jersey. it looks like it will be a great day at the shore, into the 80s this afternoon. 60s in the lehigh valley, low 70s for the suburbs in delaware. cooler this morning an you could feel the difference this morning. 74 in philadelphia, new jersey is at 71 degrees.
there are some areas cooler than others. clayton is down to 69 degrees. most of the region, medford, voorhees, shamong, coil field all in the low 70s. cinnaminson 73 and princeton has dropped into the upper 60s. it will be a warm day. i'll be watching these areas for some clouds building up during the day. a slight chance of an inland shower. it will be brief if if does happen. mostly it will be dry. the showers are already out of the picture for our area. there's a system i'm watching way off to the northwest. you can see showers and thunderstorms in minnesota. this is a cold front. it's moving through montana right now. that is going to bring us a chance of some showers and thunderstorms for the second half of the weekend. but then we'll reap the rewards next week. you can see it coming together over the next 24 to 36 hours with showers and thunderstorms in the dakotas. slowly moving our way. during the day on saturday, you can really see the cold front taking shape.
look how it's drying out in the west. while on the other side of the front, that's the warm part of it, showers and thunderstorms. and so that threat will be with us as we go into the weekend. that cold front will make progress. we'll likely stay dry on saturday but sunday morning, you can see the showers already making it into western pennsylvania and sun afternoon, we will likely see some of the showers and thunderstorms in our area. there are changes on the ten-day. this is your 10 day on 10, 89 agrees this afternoon, up to 90 degrees for saturday. both days we'll see partly so mostly sunny skies. pretty niceç summer weather foa couple days. then here comes wet weather with that cold front that will arrive on sunday. sunday morning will probably get sunshine and that will warm us into the upper 80s. then the clouds building in the afternoon. that cold front arrives with showers and thunderstorms. it doesn't stop, it keeps on going, sweeps through the area and we will really feel the difference next week. monday and tuesday, morning temperatures in the 60s. high temperatures in the low 80s. remember last week, upper 80s
and into the 90s for most of the area. this week, the same story. not a sign of that over the next several days. in fact, for most of next week it will be beautiful. low 80s for wednesday, thursday, warmer, then into the upper 80s on friday. finally, a chance of more showers and thunderstorms next saturday. sunday will be clearing out with lots of sunshine. a 50/50 weekend. a pretty nice day today and again tomorrow. >> we now have an update on a story involving philadelphia schools failing to conduct fire drills. we'll tell you how the school board is taking action following an nbc 10 investigation. plus, controversial creation. these statues of donald trump are now popping up in different cities nationwide. we'll tell you the story behind these figures and what the artist who created them is now saying.
mayor jim kenney will welcome more than 500 new teachers to the school district of philadelphia. kenney will speak to them as they wrap up a week-long orientation in northeast philly. uber users in pittsburgh will soon get to ride in a self-driving car. landon dowdy is here with details in this morning's cnbc business news. >> good morning. uber planning to add self-driving taxis over the next couple of weeks to ferry customers around the pittsburgh
